[Q] Hig-res contact pictures - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed that the picture on my contacts are very low resolution and appear pixelated. Is there any way too fix it?
Thanks

Are you using Google to sync contacts? If so try a picture from the phones memory and see if that helps.. Btw I sync with Google but no problems. Are you using full screen caller pics?

I have this same issue, only with me it happens with 4 contacts (2 pairs of folks with the same names) and their photos appear small and pixelated whilst others are larger, crisper and sharp.
I cant seem to figure out why this happens - cant be an issue with the matching names conflicting in the contacts database??

@gc1984
Are you using Facebook to sync your contacts photos? If so:
-go into the app>app settings>scroll near the bottom and un-check sync contact photos.
-exit the app
-go to settings and scroll down to the accounts section, add a new account
-Choose xperia with Facebook (by default this should sync hi-res contact photos and calendar (you can turn either or both on/off)
Using the facebook app account to sync contact photos will provide low-res. Using xperia with facebook will provide hi-res.

I currently have both accounts for this set up. For the majority of my contacts, the images are ok but i cannot shake the feeling these 4 instances are due to my contacts having the same name. But cant figure that out.
I have stopped my Facebook App Sync now so will try and refresh and see what happens with the Xperia Facebook account still active and see how i get on.

When I had both accounts syncing contacts (Facebook and Xperia with Facebook) some contacts would show the hi-res and some the low-res. When I edited the contact photo I could see both the hi-res and low-res available.
Once I disabled the Facebook account contact sync and kept the Xperia with Facebook contacts syncing, and waited a few minutes, only the Hi-Res photos were showing.

No you shouldn't have to, but give it some time to refresh, especially if you have a lot of contacts. I noticed with mine that while it was downloading images, if I went to a contact that still had a low-res photo and went into the contacts details, a few seconds later the image would update to high-res.

Managed to get to WiFi last night after stopping the Facebook App Sync and the issue still remained. I even sync'ed the Xperia Facebook once again and the issue remained.
I then decided to remove my Facebook account from my phone and recommence the process of adding Xperia Facebook account. However this did not allow all my contacts to be sync'ed from Facebook, so I had to resort to using both the Xperia Facebook and Facebook app running.
I then went through all my contacts and what you described above occurred - the blurred images became sharper when viewing the contacts. it was just a case of going through my list and allowing them to become Hi-res and the problem was solved.
A bit long winded but I am happy this worked for me. Still no real idea why it occurred in the first place and also why it only happened to contacts with the same names....very strange indeed!
Thanks for the help!!

You are quite welcome, and I'm glad it worked out, though the process was sluggish. In the end it's worth it because the hi-res contact photos look a world better.
Thanks for reporting back for others.

Worked for me too! Thanks

Hello, I had problems with this too, and I finally used HaxSync, but after I removed facebook app

[Q] Facebook App not sync'ing profile pictures with contacts?

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble at the moment getting my Facebook contacts profile pictures to show up when sync'ing my contacts with the Facebook for Android app. It sync's the accounts okay because I can still view a contact and it will have a link to their Facebook profile, however it's no longer sync'ing the pictures anymore.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Facebook app and then sync'ing contacts again but it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any idea why that might be? Cheers.
i did had this issue.... i removed the facebook account from social hub & the facebbok app itself..
Settings -> accounts and sync -> then clicking on the account and removing them.
Then first added facebook to social hub...synced it...then pictures were back...then i had to again log on to facebook app...and synced again (this is just to attach the contacts) so that the app can be lauched from contacts itself.

I don't have Social Hub, I froze it in Titanium Backup and it seems to have disappeared. Think I'm going to have to reset the phone.
Just try to delete and readd your Facebook.sync account. And then sync again. That worked for me. I never use the hubs

Cheers for the replies guys. I found out what the problem was, the ROM I had installed had the Facebook sync removed from it. Did a full wipe only to realize this afterwards, all sorted now though.

[Q] Facebook picture sync

How do i sync contacts with facebook pictures without getting ALL my friends from facebook to the phone.
"Sync existing contacts only" doesnt work. Mine just syncs all my FB friends numbers to my phone.. and doesnt even update the contacts picture on phone..
same problem....but some contacts were updated and some others not
i have had this problem as well, and there is a small work-a-round when in the contacts menu i go to Options > Visible contacts > Edit , and simply only have the desired contacts show up.
as for your picture problem, i have always done this by hand simply merging the contact with the corresponding facebook account
Yeah thats a workaround, but then when you start typing receiver in text messages for example, random people from facebook with number pops up.. kind of annoying.
SyncMyPix, is a app that does the job but i would want FB native app to do the job..
If anyone knows, please share!

Contacts Birthdays not showing in Calendar

Hi
I have added birth dates to my gmail (google synced) contacts on my desktop pc. When I go to calendar on the pc birthdays show up.
I want the birthdays to show up on my phone calendar.
I have turned Google sync on to update my contact info, in the stock calendar I have found the option "My Calendars, Gmail, Contacts Birthdays and events, Synced & Visable"
The birthdays still dont show up in my phone calendar also when I go to contacts/Info in my phone there is no entry box for Birthdays?
Any ideas if I'm missing somthing?

DAMN I got the same problem...
I actually missed one of my best friends birthday due to this. I was calm that my phone would inform me, but NOPE! Although I have the birth dates on my Contacts, and they show OK on PC and on my Samsung Y Pro, they dont on Xperia S!
---EDIT---
Birthdays are not even shown in the contacts details! And I cannot even add a birthdate in a contact!
We must be missing something, this cant be real...
It sure does suck! Just hope were missing somthing simple.
Same here but I added the birthday details in google contacts it doesn't show up neither in the contacts nor in the calendar but it shows up in the 3rd party Birthday app.
I think this is a known problem.
K900 (if I remember correctly) said that it would be fixed in ICS.
Sent from the Delta Quadrant using a transwarp conduit.
So! Is it true that the problem was not fixed with 4.0.4 update?
Can anyone clarify?
Ive not seen anything to make me think its fixed

You have to stay in contacts and wait few minutes while the info is requested.

have you tryet synchronize all contacts not only phonecontact
Facebook contact sync was disabled in ICS, so Sony's version does that in a weird way. Try removing your FB account and re-adding it.
I had a hard time getting facebook to sync too. After a few minutes it worked, but it's kind of weird because not all the contacts sync.
The best to sync contact pictures in the highest possible quality is to do it with "Facebook contact sync" -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.weednet.contactssync
You can adjust image quality, sync interval and more... Best app ever!

So much more efficient than stock FB apps. :good:
I'd recommend HaxSync ..
I cannot get the Top Contacts widget to work properly. After so many tries re-signing FB and FB inside Xperia, somehow I don't know exactly I got it to work and sync with the Facebook but after 2 days only I am now getting the error that there seems to be a problem with Sync and should be back shortly.
How to get it working again.
What's wrong with Sony's facebook contact sync? I can see that there is some apps from playstore that can sync the photos, but I prefer only to use Sony's sync.
Its strange, because some contacts is sync and some are not.
Had anybody fund the solution yet?

Import facebook pictures to phone contacts?

Hi All,
Looking for a solution to an issue which is bugging me...
Linking contacts in the phonebook to the facebook contact, displays their picture on your contact list - great!
However, if you then log out of facebook, the phone breaks the connection and you lose all the pictures.. and have to go through and manually connect the contacts again.
Is there any way to actually IMPORT the pictures to the phone contact, so it doesn't lose them when you log out of facebook?
Or any other work around?
I like an organised, uniform contacts list!
Thank you,
I downloaded an app called "Facebook contact Sync" from the play store instead of using the facebook app's way. Works flawlessly, only thing is you have to rename your contacts to their facebook profile's name.
And if you log out of Facebook do the pictures stay?
