[Q] Access folder by PC - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I have a problem ...
I use an app for courses (Udemy) and it have the option to download courses for offline watching.
Did it. I can watch the app offline, but wanted to move to the PC. I found the files in the folder:
android / data / com.udemy.android / files / udemy-final-downloads
Within this folder I have several folders, each containing one video of the course. The problem is that when plug the mobile in PC most of the files do not appear.
In short: I can see all the phone but the PC does not appear the most.
I've tried with linux and windows. Already asked to view hidden files and resolves nothing.
Has anyone had similar problem?
Obs.'s Mobile phone is a Moto X.
Thanks Guys!
Felipe

Move the files or folder to your highest directory. Should be something like /storage/emulated/0. FYI, your device has to be unlocked (meaning PIN or pattern or password or whatever) to open anything on the phone on your PC.

hey friend, thanks for answer!
I tried that but it did not work.
Is there any setting to display mobile files on PC?

That's weird. How about uploading them to cloud storage, like DropBox or Google Drive?

I tried it too. The files are very big 4.8 GB and always stop. I'll try do it littke files at time.

Send to PC over Bluetooth?
Delete and re-download them to a location of your choosing?

Copy via PC or SDCard
You can locate the folder as you did, thus:
android/data/com.udemy.android/files/udemy-final-downloads
copy it to memory card or flash using otg if your device supported it. Otherwise, you copy it to your PC, I used Ubuntu to copy the folder. Afterwards open and rename each course (file) accordingly, but is a very tiresome task.
Hope this will help.

I have the same problem.
My course has 297 lectures
I could copy only the first 222.
I ran ls -l from terminal as su to check the sequence - they are downloaded in sequence - and I am using the time sequence to rename them in order numerically

How to download Udemy videos and convert it to any formats to play
You can try Bigasoft Video Downloader Pro, it can download udemy videos for free. You can read more from How to Download Udemy Videos Easily with Bigasoft Video Downloader Pro

What protocol are you accessing the files from your PC? Are you using MTP, MSC, etc...?
May i suggest that you install ES File manager, use it's remote manager (which uses ftp) to check if you can see the files.
Personaly for transfering files between my Droid and my PC, because MTP is so utterly slow I use an app called "MTP-alternative" which allow you to tranfer files over USB but uses the Wedav protocol and is really quick. (if it works, bear in mind that when transfering files to your mobile it copy them in /data/local/tmp which gives the impression that the files aren't transfered to your mobile)

I higly recommend Avdshare Video Downloader which can directly and batch download videos

Hey, i realize this is very late but i hope my answer will help others. I had to do something simillar and i found a very simple work around. all you have to do is download winrar or any other app that can archive files/directories. Use the app to make an archive of the Final Downloads folder which contains all the other nested folders with the videos in them. Now you can connect your phone to your computer and transfer the .rar or .zip file over and extract it on your desktop.

Thanks for your answer, this is worked for me. The problem is solved now.

Can not delete files/folder

Hello,
I am trying to delete some folders and files (ex. Sygic - Aura) but no I could. Tried that with Es Explorer and my device is root.
Any way to fix this problem please?
Thanks
Connect to your phone to the computer as a media device.
It will be recognzed as a usb drive, then access the files and use the computer delete commands to remove.
It works have done it several times while transfering files to the phone. When I have old versions of files to remove.

Thank you for the prompt reply.
I don't if you are talking about the same thing I have done. Yes I connected the device to the PC, I saw 2 SD's internal and external in Windows Explorer. Is this right? the problem is by doing so I could not delete the files or the folders.
In fact I had to restore a previous backup and from there I could delete the folders and files.
Thanks any way

Remote app removed, please help

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so flame away if I'm screwing up right off the bat...
I have a Sony Table S Model SGBT112US/S. I just did the latest Android OS update (4.0.0 (release5a)) and the remote app was completely removed. Calls and chats with Sony resulted in doing 2 factory resets, no dice. Does anyone have a DL file for the app? I tried Touchsquid as an alternative and it didn't work at all. Many thanks in advance.

Remote Control apk files from /vendor/app/ folder. Download irremote.zip from 4shared HERE. If you do not have a 4shared account, create one, it is free. The irremote.zip file contains irremote.apk, irremoteapiservice.apk, and irremoteservice.apk.
Thanks, but when I downloaded, unzipped(w/AndroZip) and installed it just freezes. Should I DL to my computer first then transfer via USB?
When I plugged it into my computer via USB I couldn't even find the /vendor/app/ folder, am I screwing something up?

Before I go into too much detail, tell me: Do you have root access on your tablet? Also, have you installed an app like ES File Manager or Root Explorer?
Yes, I have ES File Explorer.

I apologize for taking so long to get back with you. Truth be told, I forgot. Anyway...
The three apk files for the Remote Control app should be located the following directories.
/vendor/app/
/datapp/vendor/vendor0/app/
/datapp/vendor/vendor1/app/
Extract the files from irremote.zip, copy them into each directory, and reboot your tablet. After reboot, the Remote Control app should be installed.

That is probably because the directories are mounted as r/o and ES File Explorer cannot get past that. So, instead of using ES File Explorer, use Root Explorer to first mount the directories as r/w (via button in upper left corner of Root Explorer's screen) and then copy the files to the directories. After copying the files to the directories, re-mount the directories as r/o (again via button in upper left corner of Root Explorer's screen).
Do you know where to put files for Xperia Tablet S, because i also want back the IR Remote Control, and do the same files work with XTS?
I don't have the same folder directories as Sony Tablet S
Thanks in advance!

If you have root access, find the apk, put it under /system/app directory, and give 655 permission then reboot.

Sony Tablet S IRRemote files
Hallo, I know I'm quite late with this thread, however I still need these 3 files
irremote.apk, irremoteapiservice.apk, and irremoteservice.apk
for recovering my infrared connection. I got a link from this thread, but it is not usable anymore.
Can somebody tell me where I can get them from ?
Thank you in advance !

Sony Tablet S IR control
All right,
I found all three files, put all of them in the right directories and restarted the tablet.
Result: operating the remote control app I have absolutely no signal coming out from the LED (flashing light checked with digital camera).
Am i missing some other files or signal code ??
Thanks, cheers

[discussion] where does snapchat store photos/videos?

So I've went into the /data/data/com.snapchat.android/ folder, and it is only about 200KB, so the image/video files can't be stored there.
I also noticed if you have a new message, and you close and open the app, it will have to redownload it. So it seems that snapchat is storing the images in the RAM.
So I dumped the ram of my snapchat PID, using this method. I had to download a compiled gdb binary.
I then used photoRec to scan all the *.dump files [I concatenated them all first, the file was about 100MB]. For filesystem I said "Other."
All I got was one txt file. It seemed to be xml, and contained a lot of usernames of my friends, but that's all.
If anyone has any input on the subject, here is the thread for it!
Bump for interest

Snapchat save picture under /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps. You then have to copy and paste the file out of the folder, and rename the file extension from .jpgnomedia to .jpg
I can not find where the videos are stored. That's how I found this thread.
Like the previous poster said images are stored in /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps. They are deleted when they are viewed though so you must copy them to your sdcard or wherever and change the file extension before viewing them. Videos are stored in /data/media/0/Android/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/tcs_pahn

I have not had time to check this location, however I have sort of discovered a workaround. [HTC Rezound CM10.1]
Ideally you should have a wifi toggle in the statusbar.
Open snapchat and then click on your snaps, after it loads the images [It will say "Loading image..", then "Tap to view"], turn off WiFi. Then you can view the snapchats [pic or video], and before enabling wifi, wipe Snapchat's data.
This way you can screenshot while offline and they will not know.
Alternatively you can use TitaniumBackup. Backup app while logged in, after viewing snapchat offline, restore data from backup so you do not constantly have to login.

If you can't find the video folder, it's because it deletes it and the videos when they are not loaded. They are stored under /data/media/Android/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_video_snaps/ in mp4 format with a .nomedia file extension. As soon as you navigate away from the app, they are deleted, so I set up a tasker gesture to allow me to copy them while they are loaded.
As people said before, the images are stored in /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps/ with the jpg.nomedia extension. If that folder doesn't exist, try making sure you've received and loaded a snapchat first. The images seem to stay until they're viewed.

That location you name for videos doesn't exist on my phone.
- I have /data/media/ "0" and "obb" are the only 2 folders within there
- I have also read that the videos are stored in /Storage (SD CARD)/Android/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/... but there isn't anything further from here, my 'cache' folder is empty, there's never been a "received_video_snaps" folder, let alone any content within here.
- I am able to get the photos from /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps/ but never been able to intercept videos
Note: this is all done BEFORE "viewing" the material and allowing it to "load" and show "tap to view" from within SC
I'm using the EVO 3D CDMA version

I'm running TouchWiz. I wonder if you are on a 4.2.2 ROM or something, cause I've experienced the sdcard being moved around before...
Does your "0" folder have any subdirectories? such as Android/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/
In any case, videos are special: You need to actually click "load" (but don't hold, or else you'll actually view it before saving) if it doesn't do that automatically. Unless I misinterpreted, you didn't do that step. I think they might load automatically on Wi-Fi or something, though. For a general rule: As soon as it says "Load", the video is no longer (or never was) on your device. Furthermore, the sneaky little application deletes the folder at the same time, which is why you're never seeing "received_video_snaps" within the cache folder you found (assuming that one actually stores the videos in your version) because in my experience, almost everytime you navigate away from Snapchat, it unloads the video.
If you want to test for whether a file exists in a particular directory using Tasker, mess around with different directories in a File Modified profile (and have the associated task flash something). It'll flash as soon as something is added to that folder (including another folder, it seems).
Otherwise, check out my thread for this here.
I'm not familiar with Tasker. is it possible to have it automagically copy and rename the files that show up in the picture cache folder upon receiving a snap?
-edit-
From reddit:
I've got one method working on doing this, albeit I dislike it because this is questionable practice as is.
you''ll need Tasker and the Secure Settings plugin (tasker's run shell didn't like playing nice most of the time, but the secure setting run command does).
so i have tasker wait for snapchat to be opened, then the opening tasks are to wait 7 seconds (gives you time to load any pictures, honestly, i tried doing this with a file closed but tasker doesn't seem to like using wildcards in that command. if you really want, you can make this an exit command and open snapchat then back out before viewing)
then run shell as root cp -r /data/data/com.snapchat.android/cache/received_image_snaps/ /storage/emulated/0/snaps/ (you'll need to change the second directory, mine is for a gnex on 4.2.2 so that's why it's emulated/0)
next, you'll need to make a script in atext editor, and for sake of sanity, push it to /system/bin with chmod 755 (rwxr-xr-x)
the script then reads as CODE
!/system/bin/sh #there should be a hashtag in front of this but reddit's formatting is being wonky
cd /storage/emulated/0/snaps/ #wherever you copied them to
for file in *.nomedia
do
mv "$file" "${file/.nomedia}"
done
exit
then in tasker, as an exit action, run a secure settings run command with the command of whatever your script name is (include location if you do no push to bin).
it should work
You can play with the triggers and such, but i was having no luck including the scripted portion with the copy actions, it never seemed to run the script (secure settings has options to notify that it's running/completed).
Again, this is mean to be instructional on how to automate this with tasker, since I wanted to solve a puzzle. Not for anyone to be a creepy ass person saving snapchats that you shouldn't.

Deleted images are deleted. That's the point of Snapchat. As for the file you moved (I'd recommend you copy it instead, cause Snapchat'll show a blank screen when you view it if you moved the file), make sure it ends in .jpg (for images) or .mp4 (for videos).

Actually there is a program called PhotoRec that scans a disk for files using the headers. So as long as the file is unfragmented and not been written over, you can retrieve it with the software. Of course you'll have to either plug in your phone to your PC with usb mass storage mode [if your phone supports it], or else put it in a card reader.

Well actually it's not run from the phone [as I mentioned in my previous post], you must plug your card into your PC with usb mode in order for it to work.
I have used PhotoRec in the past and it has worked pretty well. The only thing, and it's not PhotoRec's fault, your files will have a random number. There's no way to know what the old filename/path used to be, so you have to figure that part out on your own.
In short, always backup your sdcard unless you don't mind losing everything, and depending on the damage, might be able to recover the files, but only the ones not fragmented and they will be randomly named.
I developed an easy way to sync the received pictures and videos with your Dropbox account.
If it is interesting you can check my thread here

[Q] how to access hidden folder on Android (4.3) / recover lost files on Nexus 7

Hi,
I have lost a few pdfs which I have been reading for weeks (!) on my Nexus 7 (Android 4.3). Via the reading history of my pdf reader (Moon+ reader) I can see that at least one file is still present in the cache under the following folder address: /data/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/cache/filecache2/c042587322c4a438463efbd2cc533cbf/mypdf1.pdf
How can I access this folder? When accessing the device via the Android File Transfer sofware for Mac, I don't see this folder. I have access to Android/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/files, but this folder contains no files but only another folder (called "pinned_doc_files_not_for_edit") which is also empty.
The lost pdf is still there, I can open it in the reader via the reading history, but I would like to access the folder to see whether other lost files (which are not in the reading history) are also still present. To be clear, the file which I can open is also not detected when searching the device for pdfs.
Any help on this issue would be very much appreciated. I put weeks of work into these pdfs (annotating etc), but for reasons beyond my understanding, they disappeared.
I have no significant experience working with Android (apart from being a user).
Many thanks!
z
Try any other file browser like

How to restore corrupt MP4 file

I've got a S6 Edge, for some reason, after trying to send 2 videos taken by the phone's camera through WhatsApp, the sending failed & the files disappeared from the Studio. After searching with a file manager & PC, I found them but they are no more MP4 files. They have same name with "repairedä®p4" at the end. File size shows they are the 2 videos, but cannot copy them anywhere. Any help how I can restore them? if possible. I tried renaming them, but no use. Cannot be copied inside the phone to another location nor to the PC using a cable (both MTP & PTP connection).
