19305 lte - is re rooting the right step? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I'm still new to rooting and roming. Not sure exactly what i have done wrong but i hope you guys can help so heres a quick run down.
Rooted the phone no problem with odin.
SuperSU gave me a headache so i uninstalled and re installed through play store...rebooted and all was well. With rom manager pro i backed everything up. TWRP recovery.
with mobile odin pro i flashed the galaxy project and re booted. It looks great but when i got to superSU it says there is no SU binary installed. Now titanium back up won't work either. I checked with root checker and it is detecting superSU but it's saying that my phone is not rooted which kind of makes sence as to why it isn't working.
With rom manager when i try to restore, it can't find any back ups which juuuuuuust peachy!
So now my thoughts are re rooting and starting from scratch. Not sure if i'm on the right track here but it doesn't matter anyway because odin will NOT see my phone in download mode.
Not sure if i've done something wrong, i probably have just not sure what it is but i also feel that this is salvagable.
Can anyone help?

Root Problem. [RESOLVED]

Up until today, I've been rooted. Used the SuperOneClick program. It was a piece of cake.
Today, I decide to check for new software updates..Two new ones.
I updated them and now I'm running 2.2.2 and ed05. Well I'm assuming that's the problem.
Because I've been going through the process today of backing up my ROM and stuff, to flash MIUI for the first time. Well, nothing seemed to work.
I tried to backup my current ROM, but nothing happened. (Should've rebooted and come back on, like normal after 'backup current ROM' was selected and a name was entered for it; Didn't happen. )
So I figured that the new software updates unrooted my phone.
So I go back into SOC and root my phone again, but during the process, it tells me that I'm already rooted. Finishes the process and I reboot my phone, etc.
Well the Superuser app is in my list now, but none of the root-required apps are working. They all tell me that I'm not rooted. I even used Root Check to see the status. It tells me as well, that I'm not rooted.
I go back to the SOC program and UNroot. Well that was successful. I reboot, etc.
No Superuser app. So far so good. So I go BACK again and root, everything went well, except when it said an 'su' command was sent to my phone, I never got one, but I still got the Superuser app. And still, the apps tell me I'm not rooted.
Any kind of help is great. I really appreciate all the time, spent reading this.
Sorry if I went on and on, but it's bugging me now and I really need some answers to what the problem might be. Thanks, guys. ;(
superoneclick does not work on ed05
you need to odin cwm recovery
then reboot into recovery using three finger method
install root.zip file
then reboot
directions for rooting with odin is here:
http://www.galaxyforums.net/forum/fascinate-rs-guides/1967-how-root-froyo-gingerbread-your-fascinate.html
SOC does work with ED05.. I've used it several times, different phones.
Really? I thought quite a few folks were having trouble with soc after the ota ed05 update? If thats the case, then thanks for the clarification... although odin is still another option for the op since soc is not working.

I read most of the first page on that thread, mostly just read the latest replies about that method. I'll read the full directional tutorial once I'm clarified of questions.
I think I read a couple of users saying this does root your phone, but it will wipe all data as well? I'm not quite sure. I want my phone rooted, no matter if I install MIUI or not. I don't want a factory reset though.
Thanks droidstyle, I'm back to being rooted!
Now onward to flashing MIUI! Wish me luck.

[Q] Frustrating Problem With Rooting

Hi guys. I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 GT-i9300 running 4.1.1 Baseband 19300XXDLIB.
I have been trying and trying and trying for the last few days to root my mobile. I take care following all of the steps and I have tried every type of root program and files I think are available but even though they download to the phone and reboot into their custom recovery, then install the files needed to root, none of them have worked!!
It's strange because the phone is just unrootable it seems. I have tried several versions of Odin. I've tried what should be 1 click rooters but nothing works! The most recent files I have used to download to my phone via Odin were CF-Auto-Root-m0-gti9300, CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4, SuperOneClickv2.2-ShortFuse, SuperOneClickv2.3.1-ShortFuse and SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse all of which have been recommended to me and I have strictly followed YouTube videos and written guides. I don't think I am doing anything wrong yet I still have no root access. The last root I tried installed a CWM app (I know it stands for Clock Work Mod but not sure what I am supposed to do with it) but not SuperSU which is supposed to come with it.
Please can someone help? I'm tearing my hair out here!
I should probably point out I am not using the stock ROM as I did manage to brick my phone at one point and had to install another firmware, although I would like to go back to my original firmware yet I am not sure what it was...is it possible to figure out what the stock firmware should be? The phone is unbranded from the UK.
Many thanks

No you can only guess .
TO ROOT .
Factory reset the phone and install CF root 6.4 via Odin .
But its really pointless rooting when you don't have a clue as to why or what .

May also be because your computer hasn't been installed with the samsung drivers yet? Kies i think it's called..
Have you tried downloading supersu from the play store? And be sure to not try superuser but supersu.
I had the same thing with cf-autoroot. supersu wasn't there and I didn't have root. Tried several times, never worked. After that I tried rooting with the old cf-root that also installs cwm recovery. Recovery was there but no supersu and the phone didn't get root. Tried that several times too but that didn't help either, although that is how I rooted my phone successfully right after I had bought it. Went back to cf-autoroot, same result, no root. But as soon as I downloaded the app supersu manually and updated the binarys as it tells you to at first start, I had root.

Kies is not required (and its junkie bloatware that doesn't properly clean itself up on uninstall anyway)
Windows can pull the drivers from WU.
You Sir, are a legend! Thank you very much, you have sorted my problem I had SuperUser instead of SuperSU like you stated. Who would've thought it'd be so easy to fix?

You should probably not just imagine that just because someone has a problem that they don't have a clue what they are doing. I have done this numerous amounts of times with several phones, my Samsung was just slightly more difficult since I had made an easy mistake by not taking note of my original firmware and by not realizing that I needed SuperSU and not SuperUser (which I'm sure is a common and easy mistake).
Try next time not to put a fellow site member down.

Do i need to re root?

Hi guys, i'm still new to rooting and roming. Heres what i have done on the absaloutley wonderfull s3 19305LTE 4.3 australian model.
Rooted the phone no problem with odin
There were dramas with superSU but got them fixed when i deleted and re installed superSU.
Accodring to rom manager i backed up my rom. So i'm thinking great, now i can download a rom.
i got the galaxy project rom thing which is working great....however
superSU is now saying that SU binary needs to be installed, it's saying i need to manually re root which i can't seem to do.
Titanium back up is not working.
Rom manager can't find any backups which is juuuuust peachy!!
Now odin won't see the phone when it's in download mode, it only sees the phone when its in normal operation.
and i can't seem to see the ime number or whatever it is, which is probably why odin can't see the phone in download mode?
Can anyone........anybody at all............help?
have u try to reset factory? and see if odin have detect u pda then u can re-root again

Well, I would say why don't you try factory resetting your device at first and then again try connecting it over the ODIN see if that works out or not ! :cyclops:

You need to post in the i9305 q&a section for more detailed help.
Try not to use rom manager, it creates more issues than it fixes.
no imei number will not make odin not connect to it.
Can you access recovery? if so reflash the rom.

Tried rooting S3, didn't work, need help.

I am very new at this, so I apologize in advance. I have the Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 running 4.3.
I simply wanted to root it so i could get rid of the bloatware and install Sixaxis and play emulators, but I didn't really know where to start, so I started looking around and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546505
So I basically did everything on there. I used Odin to install PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery (CWM 6.0.4.7) Did factory reset, wiped cache/dalvik. then installed the Odexed MK5 stock rooted zip, wifi fix zip, SuperSU update zip, and then the knox app remover zip.
Everything flashed just fine and it started right up. It had the Super Su app, but when I tried to install apps that need root permission it would say I don't have root access. I couldn't delete bloat apps and Super Su didn't show any apps and there isn't much I can do with it. So I guess it didn't work? Either way I wanted to try a different rom. Was gonna give Cyanogenmod a try. But every time I try to install it I get the little "Android bot laying on his back" thing and it says status 7. I tried to flash CM10, CM10.1, CM10.2, CM11. Nothing worked, same thing every time. Even tried different SD cards just in case of a mess up.
The phone itself works fine for now, calls and text work, wifi works. And it says there is an update, but when i hit accept, it reboots to recovery mode, does the "android fallen over" then boots back up.
Now here is my stupid part, I didn't backup the original cause the guide didn't say to. (Not blaming them, i should have know better) So I am assuming I have a messed up version of 4.3 and Cyanogenmod doesn't know what to do with me. I'm not sure. Here is where I am stumped.
I can get into Download mode, I can get into Recovery and the phone boots up just fine and I can use it like a normal phone, and I have a back up my current set up, so when something fails I can still revert back to a working phone, but I can't seem to get any other roms to install. Thank you very much in advance for any help.
You need to update your recovery that is why you are getting the status 7 error, also this is for the i9300 international model not yours, just to let you know

Pretty sure the sph model is sprint. So best to find the file for that because if you flash a file not intended for your model you will brick your phone.
No worries at all, glad to help

[Q] S4 Rooting Problem

Hello! I am an extremely newbie in rooting so this is my issue. I just rooted my S4 I9505XXUGNH8. I used odin and the root file from chainfire. It passed. So I thought there' s no problem but after 5 hours or so, when I lock my phone it restarts. Plus my bluetooth won't turn on. So I saw this option in SuperSU that I presumed will unroot my phone. I clicked it and say yes. I restarted my phone, the said app was not there anymore. Checked root checker and it says no proper root access or something like that so I thought I already unrooted my phone. I tried even SRS Root, it says that my device has no root. But the issues were still there. I tried to create new file from my sd card so I was expecting it will not work because of that Kitkat sd card restriction stuff but it worked. I tried to update my firmware but the phone didn't allow me because it was modified. So reinstall SuperSU again, and it says SU Binary not found, like that. Now I really have no idea what to do. Please help me. Thanks and sorry for my novel like post.

Seems like you might have used the auto root package from another firmware version as this sounds like some kernel issues. Since you know Odin works, then you can just reset and reinstall the NH8. This will get everything backup and running again (you can try not wiping, but possible issues can arise from this too - fair warning and best to backup internal storage to PC for safe keeping). As far as rooting goes afterwards, put Chainfire's SuperSU zip on your phone, find an updated custom recovery such as TWRP, Philz, or CWM and install via Odin. Once installed, you must immediately boot to recovery before the OS loads so you can use the recovery to install the zip or the stock system will rewrite the original recovery to it. Then you will be rooted with no other changes to the phone that could affect functionality or usability.
