Go to s-off.
Flash firmware for JB ( hboot, etc )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4fgu7hs7chvt88g/firmware.zip?dl=0 ( rename to 0P4EIMG.zip and copy on sdcard, then run bootloader. This downgrade you hboot etc. )
flash recovery for jelly bean,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a9ojea649b8qdn9/recovery%20modry.img?dl=0
flash stock rom for zara UL ( mount system and delete with file manager in recovery file /system/bin/hcheck )

remove tampered text ( skip point 9. Lock bootloader fastboot oem lock )

lock bootloader

I think the process will be the same.

Good to know. Didnt know we could downgrade to jb but only knew i could downgrade hboot

Child's play, do you mind testing on the CL. I would but my computer is out of commission as of now. Getting together with my Tech instructor to see if we can fix it. Until then, I probably won't be able to help much dev testing. Aside from suggestions and what not.

I've downgraded my zara_ul just by flashing firewater hboot before running the ruu. All while s-off and bootloader unlocked. It'll bootloop once downgraded to jb due to it's hcheck not liking s-off and the unlocked bootloader at the same time but that's besides the point.

That's great. Basically just lock boot loader and you should be fine. We need someone to test on the CL now. Again, I apologize for my inability.

Im still on jb

I'm sorry to break in in this conversation, but I have a problem. I followed the guide on page 1. Flashed the firmware.zip, flashed twrp recovery 2.6 and successfully installed the stock.zip from page 1(according to twrp). But when I want to reboot the screen hangs at the htc logo. Anyone know what I did wrong? I checked hboot and it said 2.20.
Thanks for any help.

Please let me know if you find out. I was wondering the same thing!
Let me try to help you guys.
What you guys need to do is to flash the original RUU for 1.27.531.11 from PC. Once you do that, you will be able to update OTA.
If you have unlocked bootloader and s-off, it will still carry over to the back to stock as well as OTA.
If you dont like it, just flash the older hboot and then recovery and another ROM.
I did it and works perfectly fine. Also no Root allow for Back to stock or OTA, you can do that later but not when trying to get update.
No custom recoveries, radio, boot, etc. Has to be stock ROM.
Ah, also please have sure the MID / CID is right before flashing to stock.

Unfortunately that only works on a Microsoft Windows computer. It won't work for Linux or Mac.
Are there any option for Linux/Mac users?

This is what I did. I was on a custom ROM, but -off, flashed 1.27 RUU, set basic settings up, then downloaded 4.3 update, still unlocked and -off. Painless.

The 1.27 RUU is stock ROM, bootloader, and recovery?
After upgrading did you re-flash a custom recovery and re-root?

Not yet. Gonna play with stock for awhile. I kind of like odexed and dont have a burning need to root. As for the "junk" in stock roms, there really isnt much, and what there is you can disable so not a big deal.

OK so just to clarify. I am currently on 1.27.531.11 rooted with a Unlocked S-off bootloader and TWRP recovery. All I need to do is, leave the bootloader unlocked and run the 1.27.531.11 RUU file. Once that is completed I can take the OTA to 4.3. Once this is complete will I still be S-Off and unlocked or S-off Locked? Then if I want to root (asuming bootloader is still unlocked) I would just need to flash the TWRP recovery and then flash SU, and I should then be updated to 4.3 rooted with a unlocked S-OFF bootloader. Is all of that correct? If not, please correct me before I attempt this. Thanks for any help.

[Q] 4.1.2 to 4.3

Hello members,
Looking for some confirmation please as I am finding conflicting information on the forums.
I am currently running 4.1.2 (1.27.531.8). The phone is rooted and s-on (never saw a reason for s-off if anyone is curious) I am also running the ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.2 and hboot 1.44
My phone currently sees the 1.27.531.11 update available, but fails to update. I'm guessing this is because I have a custom recovery installed.
What do I need to do to get to 4.3 (3.24.531.3)?
Do I need to flash stock recovery before I run the official update from HTC? Do I need to upgrade to 1.27.531.11 and then 3.24.531.11?
Most importantly, what happens if I run the official 4.3 update from HTC right now?
Thanks in advance,
Zx
Any insight?
Thanks,
Zx
If I were you I would s-off first, then flash the RUU off HTC's site.

What is the benefit of going s-off prior to updating? Do you suppose having a custom recovery is a non issue?

If youre s-off you dont have to worry about flashing stock recovery and hboot.
edit: actually, Im incorrect. You can just run the RUU. Download to desktop, plug phone in while its on, and run RUU. It'll take about 10 mins. You'll then be unrooted stock.

[Q] stock ruu t6ul

Hi People,
I have to admit life with my finger print scanner has been great
But I want to put my HTC One max completely back to stock. Rom, Kernal, recovery, the lot.
Just one problem i can not find the original RUU for the phone. I must have deleted it or something :crying:
The details of my device are attached.
As far as i am aware i am still using the original ROM that came with phone.
All i have done was unlocked the bootloader, flashed a custom recovery (CWM) and then managed to lock my boot loader using firewater.
I am now S-off but like i said i want it back to stock completely.
Can someone please help me out again by letting me know how to do a back to stock and where i can find a stock RUU
Thanks again

Hey,

I cant believe that the original RUU does not exist.
Oh well that's me screwed then :silly:
You can restore a CWM backup of 1.54.401.1 and then flash a stock 1.54.401.1 recovery in fastboot and then factory reset your phone in Stock Recovery. This will take your phone back to stock state and you'll be able to receive OTA for 4.4 also.
All you need a stock nandroid backup of 1.54.401.1 and stock recovery.

Hey farazhassankhan,
Thanks for the info. I have done everything apart from the factory reset from the stock recovery. I've flashed the stock recovery on the phone. But I have no idea how to do this, as all that shows up while I'm in the stock recovery is a picture of a phone with a red triangle with an exclamation mark though it. Is there a way to access a menu or something?

Yes, there is a way. Click on "Recovery" in bootloader and wait untill it passes htc screen. Then press "volume up" and power button couple of times and then keep pressing Volume up.
There will be a message:
mount SD Card failed 1
mount SD Card failed 2
mount SD Card failed 3
mount SD Card failed 4
mount SD Card failed 5
and there must be a Stock Recovery menu (in blue) on your screen and there you can factory rest your One Max.
Please bear in mind that factory reset will wipe all your date (inculding media file such as pictures/songs/downloads etc) from phone and you'll have to set up your pbone again
You should be able to receive 4.4 OTA (if available for your region yet)

Oh mate i feel for you i know that feeling very well.
I used Firewater to s-off.
I then flashed a stock nandroid backup kindly provided in this thread. Then flashed stock recovery.
Chances are its the unsecure kernal causing this boot loop. I'm not an expert though. there is a 708 stock rom on somewhere on these forums
so you could try flashing that to the phone.
I'm sure you will get it sorted with the help of the kind people on here.

try flashing the boot.imgvfrom the nandroid backup i shared.
or is it because you did have kitkat as your bootloader shows os 2.61.708.1. is the stock 1.54.401 conflicting with what hboot says stopping it?
install twrp recovery and install virtuous one max 2.0.2. least your phone will come back on hopefully.

i think thats you problem, the hboot is too new for the stock 1.54.401. i used firewater on hboot 2.47 to gain s-off. dont know if firewater works on hboot 2.49
unless you get s-off, i don't think you can downgrade the hboot. fingers crossed the virtuous rom should work for you my friend. as virtuous is based on the ota, in theory it should be fine with your hboot.
your best bet might be to get the boot.img from the ota for your region.

You're still on the old firmware so you can simply use the RUU which can be downloaded from my Drive.
Re-reading your post I see a problem - You installed the KitKat recovery on your device but your device is still Jelly Bean. As stated in the thread, you want the official version from TWRP's site if you're still on Jelly Bean

The OS version in your post is Jelly Bean.
-Duir- said:
You're still on the old firmware so you can simply use the RUU which can be downloaded from my Drive.
Re-reading your post I see a problem - You installed the KitKat recovery on your device but your device is still Jelly Bean. As stated in the thread, you want the official version from TWRP's site if you're still on Jelly Bean

sir, This is what I did:
1 I tried to use the RUU (file name RUU_ZARA_CL_JB422_SENSE50_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.10.652.9_Radio_1.14.50.1003_NV_SPCS_5.17_003_PRL55009_release_337148_signed_2.exe), but after the RUU erase data, and trying to send data, it has error message:
ERROR[155]: unknown error.
The ROM Update Utility can not update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM update utility and try again.
2 I tried different TWRP version as recovery, then use your RUU, all failed as step 1.
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-zaracl
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-zaracl
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-zaracl
3. I tried a stock ROM in Google dirve:
/folderview?id=0B-kSF8g8H7KuME12ai1OVHVqd3M&usp=sharing#list
I chose file JB_stock_system_dump.zip, tried to copy to external SD card and install from recovery, but failed.
So please help what should I try next. thank you very much

Lock the bootloader and then run it.
Also:
Custom recovery does not affect the RUU.
The system dump zip is literally that, a dump of the system partition. As such, it's not recovery flashable.

Don't lock the boot loader, that's not why the ruu is failing.
You need to change the mid first

That's exactly why it's failing. You need to be relocked to run the RUU.

Perhaps its different for the cl varient but for my ul, I'm 100% positive you don't need to be relocked. However, mid and cid must match the ruu.
*edit*
Also your hboot must be older or the same version as the ruu's hboot

Well, they have the Virgin Mobile zara_cl variant which the RUU is made for, so the mid and cid shouldn't be an issue since they're S-ON and can't change it. Also, as stated their using 4.2.2. They still have the old firmware and partition layout which is why the version of twrp they installed won't work so hboot version is also not an issue. Also, it throws a different error if your device has a newer hboot than the RUU.
While it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility that something else could be causing the error, it's definitely not hboot version or mid/cid.
Were you S-OFF when you ran RUU on unlocked bootloader? I'm not sure of all the benefits of being S-OFF, but maybe one is being able to RUU with an unlocked bootloader. It makes perfect sense for an unlocked bootloader to throw an error since it can void your warranty and RUUs are generally ran by service techs.
But in all my experience the bootloader needs to be locked/relocked for the RUU to run.

I haven't tried running the ruu while s-on. I'm pretty sure the distinction is if your s-off you can flash ruu zips (which don't have the mid/cid requirements) after running fastboot oem rebootRUU as well as the standard exe RUUs, and if your s-on you can only run exe RUUs.
Hey, guys. I've finally made an account here after clumsily stepping into the world of custom ROMs. I recently got a Zara_CL on Virgin mobile and somehow wound up in the same position as the OP here. I never updated to KitKat due to the update failing with a custom recovery image. After unlocking the bootloader, I installed TWRP 2.7.1.1 and tried to flash InstertCoin yesterday without making a backup (couldn't mount certain partitions and now I know why ^_^). It took many hours to figure out what I did wrong and to make many plans of action to fix those mistakes.
I have re-locked my bootloader and the RUU has allowed me to get the stock Jellybean ROM back on my phone. I tried before while still unlocked and the RUU made no progress at all.
From what I've experienced, S-OFF and Unlocked are sort of interchangeable on a device in this stage of being cracked. One can flash recoveries with S-OFF and a locked loader, or with S-ON and an unlocked loader. I'm still learning after a few months and a successful root, s-off, and rom flash on an ancient EVO 3D. The high of that success drove me to buy this phone and try some magic on it, but my conjuration skills are quite unpolished.
To OP: Relock your bootloader with fastboot command "oem lock" and then run the RUU you found here. This should resurrect your handset flawlessly as it did in my situation. Don't punish your son, but teach him to be more careful. We both learned the hard way, but I guess I learned more quickly.
I had to always lock bootloader before running ruu. Would always get same error otherwise. This was for s-on. I can't remember my one experience running ruu while s-off.

How to lock bootloader? I only know how to unlock.
Get into boot loader and type "oem lock" into adb/command prompt.

You're phone needs to be in fastboot mode.
You need adb on your computer and to run a command prompt from your adb folder. Plug your phone into the computer and from the command prompt type "fastboot oem lock" and press enter. You're bootloader will now be locked. If you get a message about too many flags or something and a security warning afterwards, don't worry, it worked.

Remember that for the ruu to work you need to relock the bootloader and have stock recovery. and unroot. it works with S-OFF so no need to S-ON

How can I install this with S-on? Couldn't get S-off because firewater is broken for me.
My phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. How can I lock the bootloader without S-off?

you could try Sunshine to get S-OFF it cost $25 dollars but it can S-OFF your device.
But I think that you do not need to be s-off to run the RUU, if you want to easily relock the bootloader use tthe HTC One 2014 (M8) All-In-One Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065 its the easiest way
Can I use this to go from Google Play Edition back to stock Sense assuming I change my CID back to AT&T?
I am S-OFF and Bootloader Unlocked and obviously ATT branded.
Yes

no bugs so far but battery life isn't that great as with the last FW although there is no battery drain like with the OTA but I'm not impressed with the battery performance

I have my phone set up like I want it. Stable, everything works. Running 4.4.2 rooted, unlocked, twrp recovery, etc. All the apps I want. So on and so forth.
Will nandroid backup made now work after I run this ruu? Basically update the os and then recover everything the way I have it set up now?
Sorry for asking what seems, even to me, a basic beginners question.

In short...No. First off, you can't install the 4.4.3 update if you have a TWRP recovery installed. You have to have the stock recovery in order to do the update. But...for the sake of argument, you did the update and...then re-rooted and restored your nandroid. You would in effect overwrite the update and put yourself back to where you started (if that makes any sense).
My advice would be to install a custom ROM that containes the 4.4.3 update already...or put a stock recovery back on your phone and do the update. There is a nice all-in-one update you can run right off the sdcard using Hboot. I did it and it was flawless.
Either way, you'll most likely be setting up your phone again but that really shouldn't be too bad. Take some screenshots so you will remember just how you had things.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I have to ask, if you went through all that trouble, why would you ever want to run ATT software? You could have easily converted to Dev Edition and never looked back.

I can't answer for the OP, but coming from the factory unlocked version and having tried various firmwares and ROMs (including Dev), the ATT RUU is the only one that gives me true LTE speeds.
Scott, could you point me towards that update using Hboot?
