Soft-Bricked LG GT540 Optimus - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I've tried using multiple ROMs in my rooted phone with KDZ Updater, and I guess that one of the updates hanged, or maybe it was something else... I really don't know. What I do know is that my phone currently isn't able to enter recovery mode, and is also not showing any boot logos (neither 'LG' nor 'Android').
I did see some threads about this, one of them talking about starting in Download Mode and using KDZ in CS_Emergency mode with some French ROM. Well, I tried that and as soon as I press "Launch software upgrade" the program freezes until I plug my phone off the PC.
I feel as if something was stuck in my throat and the only way to get it out is by completing this... so any help will be greatly appreciated!
PS: All this happened in the process of trying to install Cyanogen Mod 10.1 (which I did not try yet).

Need to make sure to get the right firmware, DLL file, and make sure you have the right port set on the program.

Thanks for the reply!
I appreciate the info, and I'll be checking what you've said. All the links in that thread are inaccessible because Fileserve only lets you download what you upload. Anyway, I'm curious as to what this "DLL" file does on a smartphone... why do I need these things? I never heard of them being mentioned anywhere.
I'll start educating myself ASAP. Meanwhile, thank you very much (and by the way, if it's of help to anyone, my phone is a GT540g from Personal, Argentina.

You're welcome. Sorry, didn't check to see if the files were still there and most every other site just had reposts of the fileserve links. However, finally found what you need here:
http://files-gsm.ru/lg flesh/GT540gAT-00-V20a-722-34-DEC-28-2010+0.dz.zip
I found this dll for your phone but not sure if it works with the firmware you have for that version:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/9v9e78xronadm0c/GT540g_100506_MP.dll
"A dynamic-link library (DLL) file is an executable file that allows programs to share code and other resources necessary to perform particular tasks..."
Basically it ties together a few things in Windows to let the flash tool work for your specific device is my understanding. But they have to be specific to the phone or it won't run once it checks the build.prop of the phone vs the firmware you're trying to install.
Keep in mind, I do not have this phone and have no way to test if they will or won't work so just like any other mod or upgrade - you do so at your own risk.

Thanks, but...
First of all, I'm very sorry not to have replied before, but I've been busy. Anyway!
Thanks, I appreciate the links, but I don't understand where to put the .dll file in my phone. I know you'd think I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to use Google, but I actually did search beforehand. I simply don't get where to put it.
Also, if it's worth the shot, I just noticed that I should disable the "Modem" that activates when I plug my phone in. The problem is, KDZ just does this simple log [attached] and states "===FINISHED===" (Note that I have 2 Modems listed in my device manager [attached screenshot])

Solution GT540
Thanks for your help everyone, I came to a solution after a full year lol. Here's my enlightenment, from another Thread:
Just wanted to leave my 2 cents here, I've been trying to do my best since around august 2014, no success. 2 days ago I retried this, and I DID IT! I will tell everyone what I did very shortly:
My problem that I solved: I can boot, device works like a charm. But: no boot logos, no recovery.
My solution for TL;DR: UNINSTALL ALL DRIVERS FROM DEVICE MANAGER 1ST, then reinstall. After that, flash a fastboot ROM and use it to WIPE ALL THE DATA IN YOUR PHONE! THIS was what I needed and was never explained: you had to WIPE the old data in order to get the boot screens back.
IN THIS ORDER (THANK YOU to those people from previous replies, gathering all your info was of great value):
Uninstall all of your phone drivers from your PC!!! This is what made most of my headaches go away, just use Device Manager and uninstall anything from LGE. After that, plug in your device in your USB ports (always BACK ports, not front ports, important). It should detect all drivers and download them.
IF it fails (it generally does with LGE USB Modem), you can go to Device Manager > Unknown Device (the one that wasn't recognized) > Right Click and Update > Choose 2nd option, then choose "choose from a list of local controllers" (or whatever the button says). After that, scroll down to LG Electronics, Inc. and install what didn't install.
I also found these drivers, but I did not test them: http://www.mediafire.com/download/p693hcz6kkouh19/USB_Driver_LG_GT540.zip
Huzzah!
Now you're set to begin:
FIRST thing you wanna do is a factory reset, this is something I'd forgotten with time, don't make the same mistake as I did. You can do it by turning your phone on and pressing Volume +/- & Home & Quick Search buttons all together for 5 seconds (it works, be patient and wait for it, even if you open the camera or any other stuff).
Download this Google SDK Tools (unzip and put the folder in C:\ drive) and this Fastboot drivers for GT540 (unzip and put the files inside the folder in C:\android-sdk).
Skip this next line if you know your ROM has fastboot.
Now, if you don't have a ROM with fastboot, I recommend you use either European Open+Fastboot or V20C Orange France Fastboot ROM.
Click to collapse
Since you have Fastboot enabled, now all you need to do is turn off your device (all this with its battery on it, no weird things) and hold the Camera button before turning it back on. This should take you either to a black screen, or simply to no display, like me. Either one will work anyways.
Now press the Windows key > Type cmd and open it with Right Click > Run as Administrator.
In it, type all this, command by command (you can paste by right clicking):
cd C:\android-sdk
fastboot -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
Click to collapse
And now it's go time! Do what everyone else says in here: Take out your phone's battery, SD and SIM cards, fire KDZ Updater up as Administrator (If your KDZ freezes, then it's either faulty or you did not install msxml, look for a good KDZ that comes with that file and delete your current one), choose CS_Emergency PhoneMode and:
1-Plug your phone while holding the volume DOWN button (don't worry! My phone didn't show "Download Mode" either, if you hear the Windows "Somethingpluggedin" Bump noise, it's ok).
2-Flash French V20A
3-Unplug your phone once KDZ says "==FINISHED==".
4-Plug it once again, holding the volume DOWN button.
5-Flash out.kdz (remember! it's CS_Emergency).

THANK YOU XDA!

[Q] Bricked after attempting to upgrade to 2.3.5... HELP PLEASE

Hello, I am a newbie Android user and I have been exploring the greatness of the OS for few days now.
Just now I tried to update my firmware to 2.3.5 and followed instruction from a non-xda developer site and little did I know, it messed up my phone big time.
While I was loading all the files (CSC, tar, modem, etc), and I should've known better when the site told me to check the "re partition" box, but I was stupid enough to go along with it.
So Odin got stuck at re-writing the modem or something like that and I had to pull out the battery from the phone.
Now the phone turns on only in recovery mode and none of the recovery choices work, if I choose one it just shows a little green android with white bordered triangle with an orange exclamation mark in the middle.
I can still access the download mode by using conventional button pressing method, but my phone is NO LONGER RECOGNIZED through the USB so I cannot flash the old stock firmware...
Is there a fix for this? If anyone can help me resolve this issue I am willing to compensate very well in return...
Thank you so much for reading my convoluted troubled story, and I really hope to find some resolution in your wisdom.
If u can't reflash your farmware
Than their is only one option left
give it to the Samsung service center they will repair your phone

I'd be down to do so but it will be hard as I have 4 custom binary flash counter... What can I do as of now?
i dont know if this helps you out buddy but maybe if you read in this thread you might find people that had the same trouble as you..just try and search the thread first and if nothing comes up try and read the first page maybe there you might get an idea on how to unbrick the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Thank you.. But I unfortunately did not follow the instructions that is written there I used an external source which told me to check "re partition" which completely messed up the phone, I think. Thank you for your input, though.

Check this unbricker
android-roms.googlecode.com/files/DREAIMG-RC29.zip
Download DREAIMG-RC29.zip and unzip the file.
Reformat the SD card to FAT32 and copy the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Safely eject the SD card.
Put the SD card into your device.
Step 3: Wipe The Phone
Hold home and press the power button.
When you see the image of an ! mark, open your keyboard and press Alt + L if you cannot see any command options.
Do a factory reset by pressing Alt + W or just using the trackball.
When the reset is done, go ahead and hold the camera button and select the reboot system now option with your trackball.
Step 4: Flashing The Phone
Once the grey screen pops up (or the white screen if your phone was rooted with JesusFreke) it will ask you to hit a button to start installing the image…press that button. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO STOP THIS PROCCESS. It will take about 8-12 minutes.
When the image has completed the installation (it will say completed), go ahead and press the green, red, and menu buttons at the same time. The phone will reboot.
And your done! Your phone is now unbricked!.
If this helps u buy me a HTC sensation.

Thanks for such detailed instruction! Would this method work if my phone is no longer recognized by the computer though? Please clarify what you mean by "open your keyboard" and the subsequent steps...

Ah I see. Could you please help me understand what you mean by "open keyboard?" I just don't see how I could open keyboard on my SGS2 when it isn't recognized by my computer... If you could clarify what you mean by that it will be really appreciated!
So from your information provided, you have a stock recovery and your phone is semi-bricked. You can still boot and your computer won't recognize your phone.
Do you have a jig? What firmware did you flash? You could use a jig to reset the flash counter on the phone and return it for warranty saying that Kies messed up while upgrading firmware. If you've flashed the KI3 with the new bootloader then the jig won't be able to clear the flash counter.
EDIT: Maybe an experienced senior member might come and look at this thread and provide some other solution. Do wait!
EDIT2: Try reinstalling Kies and the drivers. Don't give up just yet!

I don't think that the guide he posted is particularly for galaxy s2 because he also mentioned a trackball...
but if you can go the settings he mentioned you might find something and lead you.
And if you decide to bring the phone to samsung you might want to have a read at Intratechs Official firmware
thread in (Original Android Development)there you can find a bootloader that you can flash so you can use the jig to reset the counter
edit: wow I also failed to read that your computer can't recognise your phone
anymore....
Have you tried to delete the samsung drivers when you go to
your hardware settings?? and let windows find it's drivers again?
Not sure if this will help. I read somewhere someone else with their PC not really recognizing the phone. Someone else advised to unplug the phone and remove the battery then connect to PC insert battery and put it into download mode.
I could be wrong with the method. Its just from my memory.
Also this may make no difference but maybe removing the sim and SD card. Someone will probably call me stupid for suggesting that though.
I wouldn't try that unbrick method mate. That looks like it is an unroot for an old phone..possible the G1 (AKA HTC Dream).
Thanks for all the help... I have been trying to uninstall the driver and reinstall it but no luck. If I could just get the phone to be recognized I think I will be fine, but I just don't know what to do
Thank you for all the suggestions, please keep them coming!
EDIT: this is the guide I used that messed up my phone.. http://androidflip.com/install-andr...-samsung-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100-installing-guide/
EDIT: Tried to reinstall KIES, no luck. It's like there's nothing on the other side of the USB cord... Not even a sound when I plug the phone in...
If it had been via XDA the instructions are do not do what they are saying .
In Odin Select Re-Partition , Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time
In Odin select these files
For PIT select u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit
BIG BIG NO to the above .
As usual some stuff ripped from XDA and some from elsewhere .
My suggestion would be one buy USB jig it hopefully will clear the rom counter and enter download mode .
two in recovery mode go to mounts and storage and format cache data dalvik system and sd card .
Clean phone with nothing on it .Flash stock firmware .

If PC does not now recognise phone either try another PC or return phone to service centre and say it failed on a Kies upgrade .

have trouble reading it. This is one of the guides posted when some of us

Thanks, I tried to do this but unfortunately the problem persists... What do you think the root of the problem is? I just dont' get it why it won't be recognized anymore.. I feel like I could easily get it to work if I could just get it to become recognized to flash stock firmware....
EDIT: JJE, I would turn it into the service place but I have custom rom count of 4 And I don't have any USB jigs to work with either.... I am still within the 15 days of the phone purchase day, would they be willing to swap my phone?
BUMP, any input would be appreciated...

Help W/ 2.3 Android

I bought a LG MyTouch 4G Slide (myTouch Q)
I rooted it, upgraded the software, everything was great.
I was flashing a theme through zip and suddenly, it cut off and now my phone is unresponsive.
The LG splash screen shows twice, followed by displaying the following message:
E:Can't find misc
E:Can't find misc
Finding Update Packages..
E:unknown volume for path [SDCAR
D:/download/(name of the zip file)]
E:Can't mount SDCARD:/(File location)
Installation Aborted.
Factory Reset Failed
Restart Factory Reset
Then the cycle repeats its self.
I cannot access bootloader (power+volume down) no matter how many times I try, it continues to do the same process.
I have searched everywhere and cannot find the answer to this problem, does anyone know how I can make my phone work again?
how'd you upgrade the software? try loading a stock rom either through your computer or sd card, I'm not familiar with the exact process for a slide, but that's what I'd try.

I did it the old-fashioned way. Went into settings and searched for updates, then T-Mobile updated me OTA.
The phone worked perfect prior to the theme.
Every file I've put on the sdcard seems to not have any effect on this problem.
Do you know where I can find a stock ROM for LG M4GS? All the one's I've seen around are for HTC.
I downloaded ODIN but it only tells me to connect the phone when it's plugged in via USB.
I'll donate to whoever helps me, really need to fix this issue.
how'd you try to flash the theme? through a custom recovery?
and why did it stop?
did you give hard factory reset a try? (dunno what exactly it resets but it might help, and it might actually be exactly what your phone is trying to do according to the screen output):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20310765&postcount=8
if that does not work, try to at least get some more logcat:
install the android sdk, plug your powered-off-phone into usb, run:
adb logcat
it should start the service and be:
Code:
- waiting for device -
then power the phone and post the output...
good luck
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not Development forums.
Thread moved.

Attached is a screenshot of the error I receive everytime.
The phone does not stay powered off when USB connected, keeps trying to boot.
After two splash screens, the error screen shows.
I used SDK to obtain the screenshot, but none of the other tools seem to work.
Below I have attached the screenshot.
so did you try the hard reset?
if you did, can you get into recovery mode (supposed to be A [QWERTY] + F [QWERTY] + Vol Down + Pwr) or s/w upgrade mode? (E [QWERTY] + Vol Up + Pwr)
if you can get into either one you're probably ok.
through recovery you can flash whatever, and through s/w upgrade you can use a tool called LG Mobile Update Tool (you wrote about odin, which is a samsung tool for samsung phones. this is apparently the lg equivalent):
download the original 2.3.6 firmware here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825818
and do what they say here (its for the mytouch 4g but i guess the process is the same. you might wanna read up on this a bitbefore you do it):

I looked every where for this and hope it does not violate any rules - but wanted to repost so that it might help someone else. Again if it is a violation then I apologize but was just before returning to LG for repair.
If you have a tmobile prepaid LG c800 ( may work with contract phone not Sure) this should un brick your phone. I am not the author and take no credit it came from here :
http://androidforums.com/mytouch-q-...-progress-porting-custom-recovery-over-2.html
1: Download and install Drivers from LG site Mines is C800VL. http://www.lg.com/us/products/documents/LG_OSP2.0_Setup_2.0.07.20111130.exe
2: Download and install LGMobile Support Tool leave open i read it is needed to flash. http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe
3: Download the .kdz file Its for C800DG but works for C800VL , C800VL don't have a kdz file at least i don't know i looked every where. V10D_00(C800DG).kdz - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download
4: Open LGMobile Support Tool leave open.
5: Download the Flasher from post one
http://androidforums.com/attachment...s-porting-custom-recovery-over-updater-2-.zip unzip and install msxml.msi included with zip
open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe set to 3GQCT - Smart Phone(WM)
browse for KDZ file (V10D_00(C800DG).kdz)
click lunch software update and you should be in S/W Upgrade mode wait for program to finish if it errors leave phone in update mode and click lunch software update again.
One note make sure to download the correct version, there seems to be several the "LGMobile Support Tool"( file name "B2CAppSetup.exe") one will take you to the LG site and do an automatic update and tell you that your phone is not supported and to contact LG and the - "KDZ_FW_UPD.exe" it will be the one with the "browse for file" on the opening screen, also not sure but on another web site it said to use windows enabler file V 1.1 it will run on the task bar at the bottom as an Icon of the seperate windows tiled, click on this so that it says"on" not postive it is necessary but this how I ran the KDZ file. There is a V10V kdz file but it would not work on mine.
Update: after flashing with kdz - V10D_00 (2.3.4) Reflashed/updated with kdz V10v (2.3.6) would not upgrade OTA or at the lg site.

[Q] p769 - softbricked by noob

i finally figured out how to get CWM installed and working, after a couple of months of fighting with it, off and on. so, i guessed that meant i have my bootloader unlocked - "wrong!".
i deleted some thing that wasn't supposed to be deleted, then the damned cell network and lan network stopped working (keeps saying com.android.phone has stopped). so i was going to put cyanogenmod on it, because i thought that i could, and just be done with the whole "missing apps" crap. it turns out "just because you CAN put CM on it doesn't mean you CAN put CM on it". i bricked it. i have NO options to "load" or "flash" or "boot" any thing when the phone is booting up. i would love some clarification as to what i CAN do from here.
i would rather install CM and be done with all of this, but i'll take any advice that gets rid of the problem. the biggest problem is understanding how to put CM on your phone, or to do any thing at all like that, when you cant get into any kind of recovery / boot menu, even though you ARE rooted... i don't care if i have to install cyanogenmod or some one else's CWM backup, i just don't know HOW to do it - especially with no windows (only linux). it's a rooted p769v20d (originally p769v10g).

i was going to try some stuff mentioned in other threads, but i don't have access to a windows computer - and i don't think i need to root my phone again any way, considering it is still rooted.

fwiw, regarding the mysterious deleted app:
i lose my internet signal as soon as it says "com.android.phone has stopped", then i get it back again right before it says that message again - it ALSO shows a cell-phone signal right before that message. this repeats over and over and over every few seconds - aggravating as hell...
here's the apps that i still have installed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45774770

Nice thread title. That is how I am feeling right now with this phone. I feel like calling tech care and yell at them for a bit to vent. Anyway, why not install fastboot for Linux and flash the ics u and x? I uploaded my u and x folder in the Unlock Bootloader for Noobs thread. Then, flash the 20h.....oh, dang.... sorry. Forgot.... no Windows. Maybe do the built-in restore by holding the volume down, home and power keys?

thanks, but i think i finally got it working. i never knew, after all this time, that after you do the l9recoveryinstaller, at the reboot, there are no cues to tell when when to hit some buttons, and it's not clear what buttons to hit. here's what i did, and, so far, its progress:
1: be rooted
2: install busy box, completely
3: install l9recoveryinstaller
4: reboot
5: after you see the LG logo, hold vol-down until you see the flashing lights (i thought you see the flashing lights and THEN you hit vol-down, but i was wrong).
still fighting to get a rooted rom installed ...
if i choose "install zip from external sdcard" is says:
"finding update ... opening update ... installing update ...installation aborted".
if i choose "restore" instead of "install" it will not let me select any thing, it just keeps saying file not found, when i try to select any further options, whether "restore" or "restore from external sdcard" or "advanced restore from external sdcard". and i already checked to make sure the sdcard was mounted...

I think your phone bootloader is locked, you cannot flash any custom rom zip file. It will soft brick your phone.
Please restore P769 CWM back from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136204. Download backup file and unbzip it. Put extract files in your sdcard /clockworkmod/backup/2013-08-30.12.00.00 folder. Extract file should contain several .img, .tar, .a, .log and .md5

i don't have a windows computer. looks like i'm out a 350$ phone. lesson learned. never will cease to be amazed that so many mobile hackers are using windows... seems like they would be linux users too... that would be awesome, because then there are likely to be linux tools to do this with... and i don't have a windows img to load into a virtual machine... lucky lucky lucky...

Well correct me if I am wrong, but I guess you "only" deleted some system files, right? Do you remember which ones were the ones? Or at least the folder they were in? Then you only need to extract that stuff from a kdz/ the bin file and push them on your phone using adb or maybe even the dd command.
Maybe if someone is kind enough, he ll probably provide you with the files you need. And cmiiw, but I guess you deleted stuff from /system/app...

Lol, you are a Linux user, you should know how to get your hands on a windows.iso
However, i would recommend using a portable windows xp (bootable usb)
VR is not the best option IMO
You will need this program http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Sorry I can't provide a link to the iso but do a google search for

It's depend on what method you use. You can flash kdz using offline method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
or use LG mobile support tools from LG website. If you choose this you don't need to download any kdz. It'll download kdz automatically from LG server then flash it on your phone. It take about an hour or two.

thats awesome - i wonder if i can get by with using that on wine on linux, instead of borrowing a windows computer... i'm gonna try it...
well, the verdict is in, on this one: i'm screwed. i've tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried, and i can NOT flash this damned phone. it's BRICKED.
i borrowed / hijacked my brother's computer (windows7), all day. i tried a few different things - i even tried the same way i flashed it to update it ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356536 ), which was worthless to unbrick it.
the problem in every case was that every time the damned flasher got so far along it would "lose the connection to the phone". drivers installed, etc, etc, no difference. i suspect its because i couldnt connect it in all the various modes (mtp ptp etc), since the ONLY way it would connect is in "software upgrade mode".
i had to buy another phone, won't have it till tuesday. lesson learned: NEVER buy a phone that didn't come from samsung... you just can't do what you want with them, without a lot of time, patience, experience, and a windows computer.
thanks for all the help.

Did you try to recover your phone with LG mobile support tool. It can reinstall rom in almost any soft-brick case. Please try it if you haven't try it yet. Many people restore their phone by that software. The steps are
- Download LG mobile support tool from LG web site
- Boot you phone to S/W update mode
- Run Tool and select recover phone
- Wait about 1-2 hours to download and flash
If it's not hardware problem, this should solve your problem

i never found that on their website, and i looked quite a few times. however, i noticed when i used the b2clientsetup.exe that if i run it without running the shttp server first, that it downloads a support tool from the net, which does not work - keeps saying phone lost connection. not sure if its the same tool.

Yes that tool. In my region, it has download link but for P769 it has request repair service.
Download from http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe
You must remove following lines from hosts file
127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com
127.0.0.1 csmgdl.lgmobile.com

yeah, that's exactly what i did, but it would keep "losing the connection to the phone". not sure why, but i suspect it was a driver issue - and i installed the latest drivers, which made no difference. i also went back and installed older drivers, which made no difference. i must just be lucky as hell, or some thing .

In my country (RO) there are some GSM Repair Centers. You should not give up and you should go to them. Par example, I flashed an HTC Mozart when the battery was dead and I bricked it (idiot, I know). I went to a shop like the ones mentioned above and I think he said that he has to flash the phone using a JTAG or something like that (I know that he has to open the phone to reach it's motherboard, solder some **** out there and... flash I guess). The whole thing was about ~20E. Anyway, keep digging, maybe you'll eventually find something that works for you. If not, go to someone who can "force flash" it and maybe you can save the device.

STEP 2:Exract the files..Open the KDZ Folder to your desktop and Right click on the "KDZ_FW_UPD.exe" and
click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
STEP 3:Open the "Original firmware" folder and run it, type the serial number on the blank form entry. You can
Find you serial number on the back of you phone, remove the battery and look for the sticker attached to you phone.

NET.framework 4.0. Download it and install. After this you are able to run the software. After you type down the serial
number of your device click save and just save it on you DESKTOP. Wait until it is finished. This takes some time.
Internet connection needed as this software is downloading the ''KDZ file'' needed for the "KDZ_FW_UPD.exe".

First, this method should work for all Optimus One variants. P500, P505, P506, P509, and a few others
Second, a couple corrections, if you don't mind...
Step 3: ... type down the serial number... This is incorrect. This should be IMEI number. IMEI and Serial are two different things.
Step 4: ... Emergency mode!! in a green background... Emergency mode has a Yellow background and "Emergency Mode" printed on the screen in Red.
Third,
When something goes wrong, the device will first attempt to boot to recovery. If it can't boot to recovery for whatever reason, then the device will reboot to fastboot mode. From here there are other options, not just KDZ. KDZ should be the last line of defense as it has bricked many Optimus One's and it's variants. If the device drivers had been previously installed correctly to a Windows PC, then fastboot.exe or any GUI tool for fastboot.exe can flash a recovery that can then be used to repair/replace the device's OS. Linux/Unix users don't need drivers to communicate with USB devices, only a 51-android.rules file and a fastboot executable for Linux/Unix.
Don't take what I've said the wrong way. I'm not trying to shoot your guide down. This is the kind of activity that is encouraged at XDA not discouraged I just wanted to inform you that there are other options.
Thanks a lot. You really saved my phone. Worked like a charm. My device is back to life and working good
But some apps (play store, maps, etc) are shown as broken as I had earlier moved them to a second partition on my SD card.
I tried downloading play store apk, maps apk and tried to install, but installation is a failure
Is there any way to restore these apps?

Hi there, I'm a complete novice at this but giving it a go...I'm up to step three and have opened the original firmware folder and run the application, but whenever I type the serial number (or the IMEI number - have tried both) and hit "save" it says "Unsuccessful in connecting to server or phone information is wrong!"
Any tips to get through this step?
Thanks

Yep. Thanks. I am using the same computer and internet connection that I am using to make this post, so definitely not the issue.
Will it make any difference that I am trying this from New Zealand? Is it country specific? Or should it just work no matter where you are?

Thanks a lot. You really saved my phone. Worked like a charm. My device is back to life and working good
But some apps (play store, maps, etc) are shown as broken as I had earlier moved them to a second partition on my SD card.
I tried downloading play store apk, maps apk and tried to install, but installation is a failure
Is there any way to restore these apps?

Help help pleaseee
I also have a problem like this, and at the same bootloop "fastboot mode started udc_start ()". So I followed the tutorial as you post. It's just that there is a problem at the last moment, that is the error message by KDZ (like in the picture), whereas in the log is written "FINISHED" but instead restart my phone to fastboot mode (after previously being in emergency mode) and nothing happened.
Earlier after I remove the error message, there is a new log message after the "FINISHED". Is there someone who can give me help?:angel::angellease !!! Until now my LG still brick do not know how what I can do.......:crying::crying::crying::crying:

Stuck in setup with missing files and can't get stock ROM to flash

I beat my head against this for about eight hours yesterday and am at my wit's end. Thanks in advance for any help.
The short version: After rooting my Blue VIvo 5, installing a few apps and setting Nova Launcher as my launcher, I started getting some errors. Apps would fail mysteriously or not launch at all. Reinstalling the apps didn't help. I tried to take an OS update that the phone said was available, but when I tried to update it said the system was damaged and I couldn't install the update.
Well, I thought naively, I'll just remove all my user data and start over. That will restore the original ROM and I'll just start over, right?
BIG mistake.
Now when I try to start up my phone the sequence goes like this:
1. I get a popup that says "Unfortunately, Carefree Launcher has stopped."
2. After clearing that popup I can choose my language.
3. Next I go tot he screen where I choose my wireless connection. Choosing the connection works, but the next screen where I put in my password only allows me to speak - there's no keyboard option. The only time during the process I really laughed was when I saw what Google's voice recognition software tried to enter for the wifi password.
4. I managed to get the password entered by using the OTG dongle and a USB keyboard. After that, though, it goes to the "Checking for updates" screen, at which point it tells me "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped." Then it loops back to the "choose your network" screen.
5. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I managed to get TWRP installed and running, but the stock ROM file I found on another thread (BLU_V0050UU_V09_REPAIR.zip) won't install. SP Flasher (which I also tried) throws a message about a mismatched baseband unit of some kind, and TWRP says there's a file called META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary missing from the archive.
So here I am, asking the community what I can do short of laying out $200 for another phone. I might be able to install the AOSP or CM12 ROMs that are in this forum, and I might do that if I have to replace the phone anyway, but if there's a way to restore the phone to its initial OOB state, I would love to know how to do it.
Again, thanks for any help you can give me.
Update, 16 hours later: I had a flash of inspiration this morning. Since it looked like at any rate I was going to have to get another phone I went ahead and ordered the replacement for same-day delivery. It arrived this afternoon, I unboxed it, set it up and backed it up with "adb backup". Then, I tried to restore the backup onto the bricked phone.
You guessed it. I never saw a notification that the backup was loading. It was the same wifi network, check for updates, broken google play loop again.
So unless someone has a brilliant idea as to how to restore the original firmware, I am going to keep the old bricked phone around and try installing aosp or cm12 on it, whichever looks like it's further along. Maybe both. Why not?
Anyway cheers.
Do you not know how to use SP Flash Tool?
Download the original rom + SP Flash Tool from elsewhere in this forums and flash it. The one for the Gionee S6 or A55 slim on the Marshmallow thread will do. I think someone has posted the original vivo 5 ROM somewhere as well.
Basic steps are open SP Flash Tool.
Load the scatter file (comes with the rom). This will fill a lot of fields in the flash screen (boot, recovery, logo, system, userdata, etc.).
Do not change anything. Click "Start"—this will wipe your phone. If you don't want it wiped, disable the "userdata" field.
Connect your phone properly turned off.
It should detect your phone right away.
Wait for the flash to end.
Disconnect your phone and turn it on.
Should boot alright.
If it doesn't detect your phone, see in Device Manager if your phone is properly recognized. If it's not, download the MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM drivers.

Thank you for your reply. In answer to your quesiton: Maybe not. Everybody starts somewhere, and while I have quite a few years of experience in desktop computers, I'm still learning the world of Android. I've flashed quite a few Kindle Fire tablets (that's the origin of my user name, 'nerdfire') but this has been my first experience with a phone.

I've got SP Flash running, but it's the Linux version. which I think is the same, as Windows except that it looks like there's a "Download" button rather than a "Start" button. Unless I'm missing something, which could easily be.
I followed the directions above, not checking "userdata", and hit "Download." No response from the program for over 30 minutes. I eventually found the timeout setting, lowered it to 2 minutes, and ran the program from a console window. The console output indicated that SP Flash was finding the proper USB port, but then nothing. No communication with the phone and the program eventually timed out.
It could be a lack of drivers. Linux comes with drivers for most common USB devices baked in, but this might not be one of them. Thanks for the hint - I'll check when I get home later tonight.
Again, I appreciate the help.

Sorry about that, mate, I came out rather bluntly for some reason. Just wanted to ask whether you'd had any experience with it.

I have no experience flashing with Linux, but that definitely looks like lack of the right drivers. Maybe following this tutorial will work for you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...torial-how-to-setup-spflashtoollinux-t3160802
The thread says you need to know the specific way to boot up after connecting the cable, depending on the phone. On the Vivo, my experience is that you don't need to press anything, just connecting the cable with the phone powered off will do. However, if you happen to brick your phone by flashing something wrong, or interrupting a flash, you'll need to press volume down upon connecting the cable.

I did a little digging and won't go through all the gory details, but the long and short of it was, after removing a package in my Linux distribution that was interfering with accessing the serial port, I was able to flash the stock ROM onto the phone. So I am good to go. Plus, now I have a good idea of how to start over again if necessary
Thank you again so much for your help.,
