[Q] Galaxy S3 shuts down by itself - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My Galaxy S3 shuts down by itself randomly. When it is shut down, it doesn't starts up by pressing power button. I have to take out battery and reinsert it and then press power button to start my cell. it happens even when battery is more than 80%. I think this problem is occuring when I goes to an area where mobile jammers are in place, but not very sure.
Can any one help me for the solution of this issue.

Have you a custom or simply rooted rom?
Are you sure you "long" pressed the power button to force the reboot?
Ps for a lot of time and unknown reasons I had your same brick when taking photos with flash: it completely shut down with black screen becoming completely unusable.

I think it is a custom rom. its firmware is I9300ZCLLB1.
I pressed power button for 10 seconds but in vain. Whenever i reinsert battery OR connect to charger, and press power button it starts up.

No, you're on a stock international 4.1.2 rom, probably you already did root.
Since how many time you have got the device?

I purchased it 10 days ago. I didn't make any changes, seller of this phone may be playing with its rom.
is it shutting down because of ROM? if so can I change it to some stable rom?

Edit: After trying everything I could think of I found out that if you hit the soft reset button on the back while plugged into a power source it will boot up!
you can use an app..that powers on your hd2 with shaking the phone...it is in the themes and apps section....may use up a little battery

Well I can wake the device by hitting the call key, my problem is once my phone dies or if it freezes and I have to pull the battery, I cant turn it back on since I have no power button. Has anyone else had their power button broke? Was it a hassle to get fixed? Thanks for any help guys!!
Yes, put your phone on charger and take out the battery and put it back in and it should turn on without holding the end key.

[Q] Is there any real fix for sleep of death?

Dear all,
I have my new tab (64Gb/3G/wifi) for one week and I cannot power on since few days.
I'm sure that the battery is full because it was in charge all the night.
I tried many things (holding power button during 5, 10, 30, 120 seconds, holding power and volume left button) but each attempt failed.
I just know that when I connect it to the laptop, Windows sounds as it is recognizing an USB device but 2 seconds later sounds as the device was removed....
Is there any way to fix the problem? Have I to send the tab to the samsung support?
Thanks for your help... :-(

Mine does it occasionally. I hold the power button down for a long time and let go - repeating as necessary until it revives itself.

Mine doesn't revive with that....
That's why I need to know if there is a real fix for this issue...
Try holding power and volume down button at the same time dor aprox. 15 seconds. Then you should see the "download" logo. Then press volume down to switch to CVM - acknowledge with volume up. Then in CVM just choose reboot.
Hope it helps you

I'm leaning toward faulty.
This one looks to have worked for mine - Tab locked up and died on Sunday, and *fingers crossed* looks to have just come back to life (within the last 10 mins so am not 100% sure).
Leave the battery to discharge completely. Then charge it up. That's it.
With the lack of screen output, the only way i could see to tell if the battery is dead is to plug it into a PC via the USB cable. If you get ADX mode then it's not discharged. Leave it a bit and try again. When you plug it in, if it doesn't show ADX mode make sure you press and hold the power button for a few seconds to make sure it isn't just turned off.
**Edit**
Looking good so far. Am leaving it to charge for a bit before i turn it on but i can at least now press the power button briefly to get the battery indicator
**Edit 2**
Having left it to charge for a couple of hours i then took the plunge. Booted up no problem so it looks like this has worked for me.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I have this same issue. Mine was fine went to bed woke up and it was dead no life at all. I have done all button combos different cords and factory chargers nothing. I even swapped the battery for a new factory samsung battery inside nothing. i dont get anything when I plug it into my computers though no found sound or anything. I left the battery unhooked for an hour before connecting it to the board inside also. I now have the power button taped pressed for last 2 hours hopeing that will drain the battery like other have done and then I will try to hook it back up to a charger. Any other ideas why it was fine then next day dead?
Yes exist a fix back to 4.0.4 stock recovery and all bugs gone for me that works

Vol Up and Power for Battery Pull on One Max

I googled and only found info that said to hold the power button for 10 seconds to initiate battery pull simulation.
However after getting stuck on the boot logo, that didn't work.
I was playing around and discovered its volume up and power for 10 seconds for the One Max.
Hope this helps someone.

its a well known fact that all HTC's with embedded battery, holding power and volume up simulates a battery pull.

I'm going to assume you didn't intend to be as snobby as just appeared to be. It isn't well known to new HTC users, which is why its posted in the help section.
If you Google the issue or search here, you only find info about using just power button for 10 seconds. But that only works if the OS is fully booted. However, that does not apply when you're stuck at the boot logo as I was.
You must use VOL UP and POWER.

It should apply at the boot logo. Well at least it does for me. You should also notice the feedback buttons bottom blinking a few times too. After 10-15seconds of holding down. Immediately switch to Power + Volume Down.
When booting custom kernels and roms that have errors. I don't get farther than that. So I know for sure it works on that screen.

[Q] Freezing up without battery pull?

I have a rooted Note 2 and sometimes I get into a situation where I need to pull the battery. Since I would not be able to do this with a G6 how would I get out of freeze-up situations? To me this seems the main reason I would not want any phone where I could not pull the battery. I hope, however, I am wrong.
all you need to do is press and hold the power button on the middle right side of your Galaxy S6 and the volume down key, simultaneously for seven seconds.

Not had to do it yet though

No worries you can force restart it by pressing and holding the Power key and the Volume down key simultaneously for more than 7 seconds
Thanks for that information. The G6 will be back on my listed as a potential new phone.

TAB S3 WiFi will not start anymore

I have a new app installed, from the App Store, and have started this. After I wanted to enter my name the app hung up and since then the tab is dead. It can not be started anymore.
Home Button + Volume up + power button does not work either.
Does anyone have another tip? I've never had anything like that and it's not the first device in my hands.
It is not rooted. Is the normal software from Samsung on it.
I had it on my tab pro 12.2 and it turned out my micro-SD card had gone bad. Please remove it if you have one in your tab S3 and restart it.

Try power button + volume up + volume down at same time? Are you sure the battery is charged? Try a different charger and cable.
The tablet hung on the original charger half the night and the other half on a Sony charger. Each time a different cable is used. Unfortunately it stays dark on the tablet. Power button + volume up + volume down did not help.
How dead is it? I mean, is it turning on?
(the lack of a notification light on this tablet annoys me, as I think it would help in such a situation!)
I had something similar when I was rooting it..
There should at least be a factory reset layer. I got to it with volume up and home - no power button required. I believe I had to hold them for a long time, ten seconds or so. And if it shows life you then hold the power button. Apologies if that's what you tried, but you don't hold all three buttons at once is all!
I am inclined to believe if this doesn't work your tablet might not actually have any power. Which could imply, say, a battery issue.
It could be the other way around, oddly. The tablet is on, but the screen has hung with no display. Another combination to try is power and volume down.
The tablet is absolutely dead. No matter what combination of buttons. And no it was not rooted or something like that. Since I still have warranty, it arrived this morning in the repair workshop.
The tablet has now been repaired and replaced the motherboard.
