[Request] In Call Recording - Paranoid Android Features Development

Hi! Since In call recording has been implemented on CM11 nightly, can we expect the same from PA? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, official CM11 support for my device has stopped. There is only a couple of nightlies, but the last snapshot was M6. Besides, I quite like PA.

We don't have the manpower to do a complete device bring up, and the PA team doesn't own most of these devices that are not nexus, oppo, or 1+. And don't get confused here. Legacy devices are NOT built on cm, they are aosp with only device specific things from cm. Think of things like drivers, hardware buttons, specific features the device has.

Well actually, there is a Unofficial build of CM11 M9 for Moto G and there nightlies are regular. But more importantly, there is Official PA support for Moto G and it's been quite stable (I'm using 4.5 Beta 1). So, CM didn't stopped for falcon, it just probably stopped being official.

It's not official for PA either. It falls under legacy, so if the maintainer stops supporting it, it will be dropped from the legacy builds. Only official devices are nexus, oppo, and 1+

That's a little bit of sad thing actually, considering how popular (and probably dev friendly too!) falcon is.
Btw, to my original question, can we expect the in call recording to be implemented in PA?

I haven't seen it requested on the bug tracker and we have not discussed adding it. It's definitely not on our radar at this time

And also i have heard that they did some software modification to extend the battery life.
"As expected, Google announced the newest version of its Android mobile operating system on Wednesday and it looks like a big focus of the latest upgrade is improving smartphones’ and tablets’ battery life. Android 4.3 JellyBean, which Google announced during its “breakfast” press conference Wednesday morning, is shipping on the company’s newest Nexus 7 tablet. The new OS is adding support for low-power Bluetooth devices such as healthy sensors that can display data on your smartphone or tablet."

LG G2/Nexus5 hardware rom compatibility ?

In the future, will it be possible to extract Nexus5 rom/updates and apply them directly to G2 ?
Just asking, because G2 and Nexus are sharing a lot of same hardware.
It'll probably be easier to port Nexus5 rom, instead of having a lot of work on a common 10.2CM ?

Its fairly easy to port ROMS from Nexus 5. However reading log cats is the main thing here. Thankfully most people can't read log cats so it stops the noobs flood the place with terrible ports. To answer your question yes it can.

We don't know availability of Nexus5 (already out of stock), so G2 could be a great alternative to Nexus5 (with better battery lol)

there is a guy with a video on youtube that says he has files to download to the g2 to make it a virtual nexus 5. he demos it and says the files are in the description but I did not see them there. He says no root is required and it does look like a nexus 5, but I don't know if it is kitkat or not. it also looked like he was getting some FCs too.

Yea the Optimus G Pro already received 4.4 based off the N4. I'm suprised we haven't got 4.4 based off the N5 yet. Perhaps the devs are still getting comfortable with the new hardware.
Real good to know about the N5/G2 ease of porting. I'm particularly curious about the kernels and how similar they are to one another. Moving forward with newer versions of Android, the kernels are the important thing.
I'm hoping it'll be easier to port roms over. The only concern I have is whether or not they'd work with the VZW version. Not sure if you could use the RIL from the G2 or a new file from scratch would have to be made to be able to get working data.

but someone has to do it which is really bad with that many different device configurations.

Sure, if you want to try compiling it yourself. There are excellent instructions in the developers forums at the top of the main forum. No one here is currently working on a PA ROM.
If you'd like to try out a ROM that includes the main features of PA as well as the best of Evervolv, CyanogenMod, and AOKP try @josegalre PACman ROM, but it is currently at JellyBean-4.3 or if you really want to try KK either @sportsstar89 CyanogenMod-11 or @jeepers007 Evervolv ROMs, but they are still buggy (as are most KK ROMs for legacy devices like ours at this time) and in more of a beta state then ready for daily driver use.

Binaries Preview Vendor Images

Not sure if it's been posted already, but Google yesterday published the Binaries Preview for the Nexus 6p. I think it's the first time they've done this. However, today they were removed.
I snagged the URL for anyone interested. It's probably only useful for those who build AOSP from the master branch.
