Has anyone received a bestbuy refurbished unit within owning a evo lte? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Cellular crapped out on my old ltevo and I got my replacement. I love it and all but on the top right side under the front facing camera the digitizer isnt flush or as low as it could be. Its like they did a half assed job trying to secure it in place. I can easily push down on it and the whole glass panel on that top right side goes down a bit. Will it be ok like that? I have a case on it to keep it somewhat secure.

I would return it, it'll probably get worst over time and if you plan to resell it, you'll get even less than it already is. Good luck!

[Q] Dust Under My Screen, The Last Straw

I wish I didn't have such a perfectionist mind and be crazy about the smallest imperfections, but really HTC, you need to get your **** together. I upgraded to the Evo3D because I had replaced my Evo4G screen 2 times already because of issues with dust and had my hopes very high that by upgrading to the 3D I might finally be able to avoid the problem. Little did I know, I was mistaken. I lurked for many days for some insight into the whole dust situation before even buying the Evo3D and could only find rare occurences so I figured I should be fine. 2 Months later I have one spec of dust. I said okay, its small enough that maybe I can let this one go, but then today I noticed 5 pieces total. This is a quality control issue and I have tried going to the repair center for sprint and they said it was not covered under the TEP plan. What bull****, and HTC wont fix it either. I'm in no mood to fight this issue with them again that this is a manufacturing defect so I decided I'm going to leave the HTC scene. I really regret to even resort to this but I'm very heavily contemplating an iPhone 4, mainly because of the build quality, and the fact that the screens are all on top of one another, there are no open spaces between any of the sheets of glass, therefore there is no room for dust to squeeze its way in there.
If anyone has any way to get the dust out before I jump ship, or rip my head off, please give me some insight. I really love the android community, and it's been very good to me. Thanks in advance.

I apologize that there was no question mark but I bolded this because I was asking for insight. If thats alright with you of course.
Let me rephrase this in the form of a question, Alex. (I actually am interested in the answer because I can't read my clock on sunny days due to the dust.)
"I have a forest of pocket lint growing in the upper right corner of my screen. Has anyone successfully remedied this? If so, could you please share?"

I only had this problem with my HERO. Got it replaced for free, no questions asked. Had the EVO 3D since launch-day. Not a single speck of dust under my screen. I'm not sure how people are doing this, but I'm beginning to think it's the way people treat their phones. The HERO I had was bought from a friend. I take VERY good care of all my phones, and never have these problems. I don't even use a case on my phone. At most, a matte screen protector.
But in all honesty, you probably should've sprung for the TEP plan. I recommend EVERYONE getting it. And if you get an iPhone, you CAN'T get it through Sprint. You'll have to buy Apple One Care, which I think turns out to be more expensive (I may be wrong).

Lifted it out ... after getting it super hot to make the adhesive gooey, right? I've actually built an EVO 3D from parts laying around, and other parts I ordered online. I don't recommend anyone else do this, it was brutal, but it works 100%.
The other big lesson I learned from ordering on-line: While the website may say: "Brand new parts" they may arrive and you find they are brand new, but did not actually pass quality standards in the factory! The 3D I built has tiny, hair-line scratches in the digitizer! Most time you never notice, but "Brand new parts" doesn't actually give you the full story.
Sorry, ranting here.

My phone has a dust spray on the bottom right corner. Been there since I bought. I'm living with it now since it's out of the way and doesn't usually bother me. But I agree that it's terrible that the phone was shipped this way. I do have Sprint TEP plan but been too lazy to go in.
I've had two HTC phones and do really like them but I'm moving to a Samsung next time for sure. Probably replace this before I buy a new one then sell it. HTC phones are beginning to all look too much the same. Time to move on.
I have the cheap $4 (not including the damage loss) TEP but:
1) I don't want to lose my 1.4 bootloader and get a lousy reman unit.
2) since a bunch of updates (thanks, freeza), it has stopped rebooting at random, which was the only reason I got TEP in the first place
I fear that blowing air in the left side (headphone jack) might move the forest (presently in the upper right) downward, not just rightward. I'm tempted to cancel the TEP and just break it open for a proper cleaning.
I think this was a qc issue. My old evo was 100% clean under the screen. This 3d, after fewer months in the same environment) looks like a freaking dryer vent.

Question about zagg warranty and customer service.

I just finally installed my zagg invisible shield HD on my EVO and am curious about there "Warranty". Had anyone ever had to get another one and why? I bought mine around the end of May and believe I have the old one that supposively covers up the light sensor but mine does not have this problem. Are they quick to send you a new one like otterbox is with there cases?
SENT FROM MY EVO 4G LTE!!! (w/no LTE)
I bought one around when the phone came out at Best Buy and had their mobile guy install it. He did it flawlessly.
A few weeks later I had put a cut in it somehow when rubbing my shirt on the screen to clean it obsessively. Maybe dirt got between my thumb/the shirt/the screen and I mashed it into the screen protectors - I don't know.
Anyhow, I went to the website and payed the $3 shipping charge and 2 days later I got a new Zagg kit. I took it to Best Buy and was going to pay them money to do install again, but they did it for free. This time different guy and there are two tiny specs on the screen protector, maybe dust under the screen protector. Didn't catch it in the store since it takes 2 days to "cure" correctly.
So the warranty process works great, but now I have to live with these tiny specs on my screen and it drives me completely insane for some reason.. :cyclops:
The new kit came with a return envelope, but you need to slap a stamp (or two?) on it. I sent it back but haven't gotten credit for sending it back yet, so I hope they don't charge my card for the full cost of the screen protector
That's pretty good. I installed it pretty good also there's just 2 finger prints on the inside by the buttons. As long as the screen is flawless I'm happy but I wonder if the prints will come out in the days it needs to "cure" along with a few air bubbles?
SENT FROM MY EVO 4G LTE!!! (w/no LTE)
I did the same thing a while back for my old phone. Once you register your shield at Zagg's website (which can be done at any time) you have the option of having them send you one then and there. It takes a few days for them to ship you the replacement.
The actual warranty process is pretty straight forward. They put a 15 dollar hold on a debit or credit card and mail you a new one. As long as you mail the old one back they remove the hold from your card. However, they only give you 60 days to send back your old shield, otherwise they keep the 15 dollars.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
The finger prints will probably go away. Two days for complete cure, but hopefully you see the fingerprints start to fade soon. The screen will be gummy for a day or two it seems. It gets slicker later on, but always has some texture to it.
So yeah, if you still have fingerprints in a week, you may have issues. The spray solution should do its job, hopefully!
I had to replace one on my EVO 4G because the edges were starting to come up a bit. Process went pretty smoothly, but for some reason the original one that I tried to send back was returned to sender by the [sarcasm]wonderful[/sarcasm] post office. As such, they charged me $15, but when I called and emailed a picture of the returned envelope (with their correct address, as they even noted), they refunded the difference and didn't even ask me to try to return it again.
Sounds good.I took off the screen protector on my otterbox defender and it seems like because the case is so tight to the phone is making the edges of the protector come up. It's still covered up by the case so idc. I just was curious over time if I could land another one and by the great responses in this thread you reassured me I purchased quality merchandise. Thanks everyone.

Screen cracked, what should I do?

Well, after being fairly sure-handed with phones, I dropped my Rezound on a tile floor and the screen has cracked in multiple places. Now, it should be noted that the picture is still fine, and the touch screen still works. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance because as I stated, I'm very good with phones. At this point though, I've come up with a couple different options. Potentially replacing the screen (I'm not sure if that's what I want to do because I'm not completely phone hardware savvy, and I don't want to waste money if I can't do it or screw something up), buying a new phone, or putting insurance on the line and sucking it up for a few weeks (not too fond of that, simply because I find that to be kind of a selfish move). I'm leaning towards getting a new phone, but I'm not sure what to do. I absolutely love my Rezound, but I'm a slight flashoholic and development hit a lull, though it's slowly beginning to come back it appears. I don't know if I should get another Rezound, or jump ship and get a GNex or GS3 or something different. Does anyone have any UNBIASED recommendations? Perhaps some direction to lead me in? I'm not looking to bash the Rezound or anything of the sorts. I love my phone, I love what the devs have done, and I have zero complaints unlike many others around here. I'm just a sucker for new hardware, and the GS3 just looks so tempting minus a few things.
TL;DR - Cracked screen, don't know if I should attempt to replace screen or get a new phone entirely (and which phone at that) or put insurance and wait to file claim
I would try and replace the screen... its not too hard if you buy the little tape from 3m that is used to adhesive and try to do it in a non dusty area

Yeah I would say try and replace the digitizer as well. Thats about a $30 job
I would put some 3M packaging tape on it for a temporary fix, one strip right down the middle should hold it together and keep you from cutting your finger open until you can have it repaired.

I'm in the EXACT same boat. Was getting a girl's number after the bar closed on Saturday night and she accidentally knocked it out of my hand. First cracked screen in 13 years of cell phone use. I started doing research and the parts seem cheap enough but the actual repair process seems to be an aggravation. So I'm debating $30 repair or $650 on new phone? The economics say go with a repair, but HTC's also forcing my hand on moving forward from the Rezound (since they don't want to release sources).
Just remember gnex specs are worse. That's all I gotta say.

Well after looking at a video of the repair process, I've decided that $30 is not a huge deal. The worst thing that happens is I screw up the phone beyond repair, at which point I have to get a new one anyway. At that point, what's an extra $30 when you're getting a new phone? The only downside, is there's no phone for a few days. Oh well.

This is completely true, but from a software perspective, there's a lot more development, many more options for flashing, and close to no hassle when it comes to updates. Though I love the latest hardware, and would have likely gone with the GS3.
I just got mine repaired at a place I found online cost me a little over a hundred.

After breakingg mine for the 3rd time,
1st time I didn't crack it, I tore a piece of the connector that attaches to the glass, it disabled about half the screen, I was trying to paint the "red" buttons more red. Highly recommend you don't do this and just deal with it lol. I went to look for a replacement digitizer.
Found some pretty cheap like you guys, and I purchased one. When it came in I realized that it did not come with any kind of adhesive. This was tormenting. It took me about a week to finally get some special 3m "digitizer adhesive" from china. I proceeded to install it and it came out fine.
The following day I noticed that the digitizer was lifting on the left side, and that some dust had seeped up under the digitizer.
I then spent multiple days and hours trying to get the digitizer to stay, I went threw about three different adhesives, nothing had worked long enough.
2nd time I cracked the cheaped digitizer was be sheer force ;p, lol actually it was an accident. I was in the middle of applying adhiseive strips to the digitizer and I must have gotten a bit rough with it because it snapped in my had, I'm a big guy but I have seriously sensitive hands and can control what they are doing (im an artist). So the digitizer was just cheap as hell, because I had dropped the OEM on on cement a few times prior and it didn't even scratch.
So I was pissed and went to look for an OEM digitizer. Found one on eBay, and bought it, turned out not to be OEM, but it actually did look higher quality then the previous one so I kept it, I didnt pay much for it any way, and you will probably not find an OEM digitizer short of buying a new phone.
I had just about given up on trying to keep the screen down, and after so long and and about 5 hours of installing a new adhesive it turned out ok, but I had some light leaking from the left, and had to press the digitizer down to get rid of it, and that helped for about 5 seconds. Other then that it was ok, but I still kept getting damn dust.
3rd time, dropped it on my kitchen tile floor, lol. It was funny to read you dropped it on tile too. That was the end off it, I was no longer going to spend any more money on a damn digitizer.
TL;dr Read, make fun of me, Buy a new phone.
This was also the first time I ever cracked a screen by dropping it.

I fell onto my EVO

I was hiking this weekend and slipped on a loose rock and fell. My EVO 4G LTE was in my front pocket and I landed face down. I got up and pulled the phone out to see no visible damage. A little while later I wanted to snap picture of this tiny salamander and found my phone to be non-functional. There are white lines going up and down the screen and it appears to be stuck in a boot loop.
I just started to get some real love out of this phone thanks to CM10 and I have a tough choice to make if I can't pull out some miracle fix. Do I switch to AT&T and ditch Sprint's crappy service? Do I get a GSIII or wait for something better?
I would really like a Nexus phone but I don't know when the next one is to be released.
EDIT: It seems I was incorrect about there being no damage. I just discovered a small dent on the back of the phone just above the speaker hole.
this is why you need a case homie
Cool stor......
Nevermind.
Bring it into sprint. Pay the 35 bucks to get a replacement. I would consider that a manufacturer flaw.

I actually had my phone fall out of my pocket while on a carnival ride over 30 yards in the air. I was able to use a friends phone to log into my Cerberus account and track it. I could see a satellite view of the park and the tent next to the ride to be sure I lost it there, and not somewhere else. I went around to the back of the ride where the red dot indicated and saw my phone face down. I was sure the glass would be destroyed. To my surprise it was perfect, not a single scratch. The phone also operated 100%. There was a considerable chunk taken out of the right corner aluminum frame and a few smaller nicks further down on the aluminum. There was a bunch of paint on the top left corner (also aluminum) from the machine.
I think that's a testament to the aluminum body of the EVO LTE and to the gorilla glass. co-worker with EVO 4G dropped his from 2 feet off the ground. the corner hit the ground and the glass spidered out.
anyway, sorry to hear your phone is jacked now. Take it back to the store and see about replacement. Maybe you had the insurance?

That is an amazing story. I got a outer box defender case and have dropped it many times and it seems to be hanging in there.
I did not have a case. Never used them. That is neither here not there because what's done is done.
I do not have insurance as this phone is through work. They are trying to switch us to AT&T anyway and I'm one the last holdouts on Sprint because I really wanted the new EVO. I love the hardware of this phone but I can't justify getting another and being handicapped to low-grade DSL speeds when I don't have access to WiFi. It's no secret that 3G has sucked balls the last year or so and I don't see LTE coming to North Jersey (my area) any time soon.

To the OP, sorry to hear about the phone. Sucks when they go down hard like that, with all the work that goes into getting them dialed in.
We have an S3 and an EvoLTE in the family right now. Wife had to have Sprint do a hard reset on her S3 on it yesterday to see if it would fix some odd issues it's having. She's still inside the first 14 days and is thinking hard about swapping it to an EvoLTE. Her mom has the EvoLTE as well, and it's also been issue free, like mine has been. I'm not really impressed with the S3, FWIW.

If the job is providing phones then by all means, go for it. If it were coming out of your pocket then I'd say hold out, North Jersey is getting LTE this year:

However you've got to get onboard with a "Just in case" case, preferably Otterbox. I don't use my Otterbox, unless I'm traveling or in a location with a lot of Marble.

The glass wasn't an issue because the phone was in my pocket with the screen facing my leg. The aluminum body hit a rock when I fell and that's how it got dented. If anything, this is a good argument against the aluminum body construction. If it was plastic, it would have just bent a little or maybe cracked. The relatively soft aluminum bent and either shorted the motherboard or cracked it. In time I may find a torx screwdriver small enough to open it up and find out. In the meantime, I'm up and running on my OG Evo. It's really tough going back to gingerbread after tasting the sweetness of Jelly Bean.

I bought this tool kit for about $20 at a radioshack. It includes all the torx and Phillips needed for phone repairs.

Cracked screen badly

Hey, so I cracked my One X+ screen quite badly, it fell on it's side on a wood floor, and it cracked.
Thing is, this isn't a normal crack, if I put it in my pocket, I end up with pieces of glass everywhere, and if I use it, my fingers get cut and bleed, so I can't use it right now.
I am not a handy guy myself, so I won't even try fixing it, I've been checking out some places, they seem decent, but they mostly do iPhone repairs. One of them quoted me $150, and another $130
The $150 has a 5-star yelp rating, but then again, iPhone screens (from what I know) are fairly easy to replace
I'm so pissed at myself, because I never wanted to use a case, as the phone is really sexy and feels good.
I e-mailed corning for the gorilla glass damage, which was weird, and they said that they will pay me $200 for the phone and they will (obviously) keep it for research (Probably replace the screen and sell it?)
I'm so worried, because after reading around, it seems that HTC One X screens never end up looking good, and I can imagine that being worse for the X+, as it is a bit more rare.
The screen is cracked on the side, and those cracks extend all the way to the other side of the phone, but on the left side, the glass is just destroyed.
Will post pics later
Wow, that sucks bud. I broke the screen on my SGSII last year and just chucked it and bought a phone on E-bay.
I replaced the screen on an I-pod and it was pretty simple. I did a lot of research before I did it and it turned out good.
I don't know what to tell you as far as replacement. If you got $200.00 for the broken one and could find one on E-bay for $450.00, you would have a replacement for $250.00. Just a thought.
Best of luck and post some picks when you can.
Steve
Yeah, I'm mostly discarding that option. I do wonder if its actually possible for the phone to end up decently after one of these repairs

I spose if you found someone qualified to do the repair, it should be like new when it's done. Be sure they use a good quality screen and digitizer for the repair. Should even consider using a direct HTC replacement. Of course that will up your cost.
I spose it depends on what you are willing to do for your phone. How bad do you want your HOX+ back??
I would just send it to HTC, cost me 180 british pounds, the good side is that you will get a new unibody, and a full service on the insides of the phone. I think its well worth it, and it keeps your warranty in play.

I don't care much about the warranty, if it dies I'll replace it, thing is, I can get upto $150, since I'm a high school kid, and (this is serious!) my parents said that if I break my phone, they're not replacing my phone in the next 2 years.
So they don't know.

Actually the one x and one x plua use the same screen/digitizer and you have to pry the back of it off and disconnect it all if you really want that phone to work and keep any bit of warrenty send it to htc if not bring it to a repair shop

The One X and One X + are definitely a difficult replacement. You need to FULLY clean up the old adhesive and take your time or you will get bad results. You also need to use the right adhesives to get good results. It would cost about $10 to $15 to get a role of adhesive you could use (trimming needed in tight areas) that would do about 50 phones.
Take your time and be thorough. Also be REALLY carefull with all the flex cables or you will be screwed when you put it back together.
I have fixed about 25 of the One X and one One X+ and its a minimum of 1.5 hours of work for me now and I know exactly what to do.
