My phone is really laggy. - Verizon LG G3

Do we have any solutions for the verizon g3 for the lag? I just switched from nova back to stock and theres considerable lag. I've waited 1-1.5 seconds for the app drawer to show apps. Also I mean the phone In General isn't the quickest. I know other carriers you can access the hidden menu to turn off thermal throttling but to my understanding we don't have that option.

I wonder what is apparently wrong with some people's G3s.
I am stock Dalvik, unrooted, with all the bloatware installed. I just hit the app drawer button on my home screen for the first time after a restart, while reading this, and the drawer opened fully populated almost instantly, way less than a second.

Lol Idk but it sure is irritating. Like why LG, why? My m8 was blazing fast

I have to agree about having lag. I came from a moto x and compared things side by side with my g3. The moto x performed every task quite a bit faster. WTF. After a week with it I'm considering returning it.

I know man. I like it with xposed and stuff but I'm waiting for unlock. I've seen worlds of difference from just going to a really well optimized stock Rom. Just did it on my note 10.1. So laggy now it's butter and the battery lasts 2x as long

I am gonna see what the new moto x looks like after its announced thursday. I'm still within my return policy.
I like the phone but many of the factors I bought it for aren't really there...other than the camera being awesome.
I do agree that getting unlock is key. Roms can dramatically change the way a phone is. That's partly why the moto x runs so well, its pretty much stock android.

No lag here on my G3 and I'm coming from a Moto X. I will say though that the X performs everything just as fast the G3, if not slightly faster. But it really is negligible. I think the main reason behind the lag is simply the software. So I think it will only improve. But I think the speed of the phone is just fine. Runs great.

As the G3 heats up internally, and some of them really do that pretty quickly it seems, it's thermal protection coding cuts heavily into it's performance.
Perhaps this is at least partly the cause of the differences people are seeing ?

Are you using a quick circle case by chance? I noticed serious lag while using the circle case. I thought it was xposed, mod themes, etc. I uninstalled, went to stock and have the same issues. I noticed it the most when opening the flap and had the setting to unlock the phone when opening the lid. I shut off quick circle app and it all went away just like that. Massively disappointing and am not sure if it is my case or the app. Can't imagine it would be the case, but will have to find buy a new case to troubleshoot more. Im using an Lg G3 qi/nfc quick circle case.

All the quick circle case is, really, is a small magnet that lines up with one on the mid-right-outside of the front of the phone. You can trigger the sensor in the phone with a little kitchen magnet and the quick circle will activate with no case on the G3 at all.
So, its not the case causing the problem.

I ran the V6 Supercharger script. I am also using Epic Launcher ( which is better than Nova IMO) and I see no lag at all. I also debloated a lot of junk. This is the combo that worked for my phone. Every one is different. Good luck man!

Yeah, I guess my point did not come across that well, but I was trying to infer that it was the software. Just not sure if it was the Quickcircle App (which causes lag when 1st opening the lid and registering the home screen) or magnet misalignment.

A couple of pre-purchase questions

Like many I am waffling between the Hercules and the Amaze. I really like the Amaze. It is a great looking phone and I like Sense 3.0 (looking forward to 3.5). The biggest thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on the Amaze (besides the fact that it isn't actually out yet on Telus) is the seemingly widespread reports of poor battery life.
First question: Is the poor battery life universal or is it only some people who are experiencing it while others are getting good battery life?
Second question-kind of a strange one. I mount my phone in my car with a holder which squeezes the phone from the sides to hold it. My concern is that with the usb on the side it cannot be plugged in while in the holder. Also, I am concerned that the holder will squeeze against the camera buttons and activate the camera. Does anyone have one of these types of phone mounts and does it work ok with this phone?
Thanks
Nobody has on opinon?
I've had mine for 5 days now, so I'll help out.
- Battery life is horrible. If you text a lot, your battery will drain faster than I've ever seen in my long life of Android phones. Not to mention taking pics, streaming stuff, checking email, etc... It's awful.
- Camera is good, but not amazing as people would have us believe. It's definitely better than anything out at the moment, but I have a feeling the Galaxy Nexus camera is superior to this one, even at 5mp.
- Having issues with my soft buttons. They don't light up when they should (touch the screen). They only stay on occassionally when unlocking the phone, but it's random, doesn't always work. Hard to navigate in the dark when they don't light up.
- Laggy. Like, really laggy. The Sense is nice, but it is 3.0 with no guarantees of getting 3.5 The cosmetics of Sense really bog this down, even with the dual core processor. I get irritated with lag on these Android phones, and this is no different than the others.
My advice, wait. The Galaxy Nexus is coming to T-Mobile according to my source at Samsung, who just happens to be very high up in corporate in regards to the Samsung/T-Mobile relationship. Be patient and don't waste money/extend the contract when the best phone to date is coming out very soon. I'm returning my Amaze in a couple days.
Battery life - Use juice defender Ultimate + SetCPU. Get HTC Evo 3D or HTC Sensation 1900mAH battery
Camera - Arguably the best on android
Soft Buttons - Works just fine here. Light up in the dark. Stays off in bright environment
Lag - Absolutely no lag. Dual core processor + 1GB RAM. This is not HTC Hero, It's the Amaze
Galaxy nexus - Hmmmm, a great device. Should you wait? that's up to you mate.
I'll just comment on battery life, mine hasn't been that bad at all, I routinely get through a full day without needing a charge. I use JuiceDefender, but other than that I don't change too much.
Thanks for your replies. As for battery, I'd like to get a full day (charge overnight, not have to recharge til next night) out of my phone without having to jump through hoops to make it possible.
As for Nexus, who knows if Telus will ever get it. The haven't exactly been leading the pack with getting the latest phones.
Any issue with accidentally triggering the camera with the side buttons?
It does not matter which you get, dual core devices eats battery.

It's because you don't have a source at HTC. That's what makes you a fan boy. Battery is about the same as long as it runs the same course of use. Really. Then again, that rumor is coming from a unreliable source. You! Let me hear your long Android history. I bet I got you beat hands down.
Sense 3.0 is much more responsive than Touch Wiz 4.0. How do I know this? I spend about 30+ hours in a T-Mobile show room a week. That's weird. Do I randomly through out the day try to load the same webpages on both phones? Yes. Does the HTC load full sites faster than the SGSII consistently? Yes. Have I carefully watched the battery and repeated the exact same tasks on both devices? Yes. Is the battery that much far off? No.
So is the battery life going to be that much better? Is it going to be significant enough to wait and get the Samsung Nexus? Probably not.

I hold my phone with my right hand so the buttons are kind of awkward, where my thumb would normally go but I've adapted. They have to be held for a bit before they are triggered so I've never accidentally triggered it.

As I stated in my first post, I'm more concerned with the car phone holder pressing against the buttons. I guess nobody else uses one of those. I'll have to bring the holder in with me and try it I guess.
Thanks for everyone's replies.
I have one of those types of car holders and don't have an issue with triggering the camera or charging the phone.
Can't comment on battery life yet, just got it Friday.
Do you happen to have a pic of your holder or the make/model? I don't know anyone who's used a side grip-style for a long time so I can't picture it.
I'm planning on getting an Arkon Slim Grip eventually and with the adjustable feet, it should work fine for any phone.

You got a lemon. My experience since launch day has been the EXACT opposite of what you just posted.
Battery=good
Camera=awesome (look into your settings)
Soft buttons=awesome. BEtter than my old Vibrant
Lag=none, not even when stock un-rooted
Your "source" means nothing.

I've experienced the same rarely with the Atrix on stock rom. I don't think it's tegra related but poorly implemented kernel cause i dont experience such issue on faux123's custom kernel.
I love it, 99% perfect.
Thinner than I thought and a bit wider than the bionic, but feels strong, solid, and light. It is ridiculously thin- almost hard to believe
Screen is FAR better than the bionic, but you can see a bit of jagged edges if you really focus in. it is not an iphone 4 retina, but real world it will prove to be more than adequate.
Motocast is available for mac, downloading off the website now.
Has the motorola bluetooth skip issue when paired with alpine bluetooth in my car (i had the same issue with bionic). Hopefully a new rom/ BT stack (CM?) will fix down the road. Not a biggie.
Call quality: excellent.Best I have ever experienced
Speaker- loud and clear
Email gestures is a cool feature that wasnt in bionic rom. Funny thing is that it only works under the email accounts, not universal inbox view...
Gmail is available in universal inbox with its own gmail logo, yet not all features from gmail app are included in the motorola email app (make sese?).
I do see it getting a bit warm, but so did the bionic (and several other android phones). Its a catch 22: with LTE radio, and such a thin profile with zero heatsink or dissapation, heat is inevitable. You are basically one kevlar membrane away from the heat source. Warm, not hot- but after prolonged heavy use I can see it getting hot.
Smartactions is really cool and intuitive, however I wish locations were based on GPS rather than wifi (on other devices, leaving gps radio on in standby used less juice than leaving wifi in standby, constantly searching.)
I am grasping at straws to find ANY issues with the device. Slight wiggle to power button, I dont like the VZW logo (was able to get it off with a penny on the bionic, this is under the glass). screen might be a little blue/green tint at lowest brightness compared to bionic.
All in all, it is the best device available today. I can see the allure with the Galaxy Nexus, but lack of SD card is a big issue with me, as is the general plasticky feel of samsung phones. The build of this thing is awesome, as there are no real moving parts (aside from power button and volume rockers). I hate creaky phones, this solves it. Hopefully someone will show how to easily remove the battery (i dont have the guts)
I'm very curious about battery life once you guys have some time to work with that part of the device. My one remaining fear is that once fully charged, it's drained out in a short amount of time. There's not a lot of battery under that non-removable back cover, and I'd rather not find myself constantly plugging a charging cable into the thing to keep it alive more so than simply using it.
I'm just about sold on this device, but, I'd like some real world input from the present user base on this subject before I drop the cash.
Thanks!

The first time you plug into a computer it should see it as a CDROM and prompt you to install drivers, mine did and it worked great. I was impressed it had them onboard like that.
So far I'm loving this phone. Fastest phone I've ever used. And I even love LGs ui. Love the ability to change the screen animations. Lock screen is the best on a phone.

Hello,
For those that got the the phone does it have 1gb or 2gb of ram?
I ask because AT&T website says 1gb of ram but all other websites that reviewed the phone said it has 2gb of ram.
Thank You.
2 GBP of ram.

I got mine this morning, came from an HTC One X. Rooted, but haven't debloated yet.
Couple thoughts :
1. It is definitely faster 'feeling' than my one X was.
2. 2gb ram is good
3. Screen seems about the same as my one X - which is to say it is VERY good.
4. So far battery life seems about as expected. Looking at better battery stats, looks like there aren't any weird wake locks, and phone stays in deep sleep as expected.
5. Works fine with my 64gb micro sd card
6. Pretty much any case will hide the notification light since cases typically cover the power switch...

I saw that too. A different page says 2 GB. I can tell you for sure (phone sitting in my hands, with 1.3GB of free RAM) that it's 2GB.
It feels faster than my one x but I like the way the Onex feels in the hand so much more. I keep going back and forth. The screen seems sharper but way higher in contrast or something, I'm not sure what it is but the colors just have more blue tone to them compared to my Onex with its warm tonea

i think my biggest concern, and its not an actual problem with the phone. is LGs drop in value so fast, ill probably play it with for a week and stick with my s4 till the phones done dropping in price in about a month.

Coming from the Droid Incredible, then the Galaxy Nexus, then this - well, the tech has come a long way. I should probably post this in a separate thread, but do the buttons being on the back bother anyone? Because they don't bother me at all. I was a little surprised actually.
its good to hear that from more and more people. i imagine when you click on the back button it pushes the phone forward because of the force it takes the push the button but sounds like no ones having an issue with it.

Speakerphone & call quality works fine for me, but each person seems to have diff exp when it comes to them. Honestly, this phone could produce NO SOUND and i'd prolly STILL use it, lol
as for Knock On, it takes a few awhile to a) realize you have to tap on a "clear spot" on any homescreen, not over an icon or you will launch it, little bit of learning curve, ppl soooo exaggerate... b) it seems to respond MUCH better to 'tap" from fingertips, not a "knuckle"...And most imp, if you find always, "looking for a cleared area to tap" to turn your device off, just double tap anywhere up by notifications, and it works EVERYTIME!
Do not be worried, within 10 minutes of opening the box, i can almost guarantee you will be totally sold on this phone...
Those "negative Nellies" are prolly the type that HAVE to find something to complain about...Every forum has 'em!
Ms D
I don't really use speaker phone so I can't comment, Bluetooth has worked well for me though. As far as knock on, if I have had my screen off for a long time, I find one initial touch and then doing knock on works 100 percent of the time.
And I actually like lg's keyboard! No one has mentioned it.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Yeah the speaker is a little weak in my opinion. Other than the HTCone i would say that all phone speakers are mediocre.. some are just a little better and some a little worse... I would say the lg g2's speaker is in the middle.. and if anything a little worse.. still it works and does the job for me. As far as Knock on/off .. It's a fantastic feature.. if the screens been off for 20-30 minutes it works the first try.. if it's been hours since you've touched your phone it seems like it takes 2 sets of knocks.. not a big deal though.. awesome feature! I've been transferring info/data/progs from my gs2 the last couple days and have noticed myself knocking on the GS2.. pretty funny but it's seems natural even after the first day!
Love the LG keyboard, I was using a leaked version on a rooted Optimus G and its the best kb I've used and it comes with 4 skins I believe. Knock on and off is imo the best feature out of all that any company has come up with in the last batch of flagships. I'm talking dynamic notifications, and always listening crap. Also nice to see they use the only feature I actually used on my old S4, smart screen to detect your still looking at screen and display stays on. I love the drag up feature to access quick access items, they added tons of options to the launcher more in line with an aftermarket one to a degree with icon changing, screen transitions and such.
Speaker isn't the worst, but it isn't the best either. Scale of 1-10 I would give it a 6 in accordance with my experience with other phones. It's very usable but won't win any awards for speaker sound, like the HTC One.
As far as knock on; when the screen is on, "tap off" works flawlessly when tapping the bar on the top or any open unused area on the screen. When "tapping on" the phone I tap three times and it works every time. Sometimes double tap doesn't work the first time when the screen is off.

Speaker volume for both media and speakerphone can be fixed if u r rooted. Its pretty easy. There is a xda thread on how to do this.

Anyone else usb cable go in so snug that it is a pain to pull out? I'm with T-Mobile, I mean its in their so tight I could use it to rappel with as in toss the phone end onto a building ledge and then climb up the cable.
I have the Verizon version and it does fit very snug.

Yes. It actually pulls my BodyGlove case off. LOL I'm on the AT&T variant and I'm guessing the pins will get worn down a bit after a while.

Opinions About G3 Wanted

Hello all,
I am considering doing a phone swap with a friend where I would get an LG G3 in place of my HTC One M8. I went with the M8 because it could be rooted and custom rom'ed. I am a VZW unlimited account, using hotspot.
While I like the M8 well enough, I really wish it had a removable battery, the camera isn't great, and the phone is a little too tall for my taste. The speakers are pretty nice though.
I am looking for opinions about the G3, looks like now I can get root and install custom roms, so hotspot should be do able. Sizewise I know these two phones are very close.
1. How is battery life?
2. How do you like the camera?
3. How is the speaker? I use it some for watching slingbox
4. How is bluetooth? I do a ton of bluetooth headphone use, phone and music/podcast. I run it connected all day
5. I have a job where I have to run a case on the phone, how hard are the buttons to use if you have a case on? I guess this does the knocking on the screen, I don't really adjust headphone volume with buttons on the phone anyway.
6. If you happen to be rooted/rom'ed how is the performance/battery life.
7. After a little time how do you like the screen? What I hear is that these QHD's do drain the battery
Thanks so much for your opinions!

1. Battery life is good. I have no problem making it through the day.
2. Camera is excellent. It's one of the reasons I got rid of my M8.
3. Speaker is okay, but not as good as the M8.
4. Bluetooth is fine.
5. Buttons are easy enough to get to, with a case.
6. Running Lollipop, and performance is excellent.
7. Absolutely love this screen.
This phone is an absolute beast, now that it's unlocked. I like it way better than the M8.
Thank you spotmark for a great reply!
I assume you are running a CM based 5.0 rom? Flashing it to my Nexus 10 as we type...
I had the M8 and couldn't wait to get rid of it. I've never hated a phone so much. It was much bigger than needed, I didn't use the speakers enough to warrant the huge size and the rest of the h/w was mediocre at best.
Love everything about the G3. I don't use it much so can easily go 3-4 days on a charge. If you're on it all day long, then you may finish the day on a charge.
Thanks Colchiro, I don't mind the M8 a bunch, but the G3 seems to have more going for it, reading specs online now, looks like they are exactly the same height, with the G3 being wider, with much more screen real estate.
The speakers are good, and I use them about 15 minutes a day, but that's not a great enough reason to keep it.

Yeah, I'm running Validus, great ROM. Lollipop is so sweet, that I don't mind being without my Xposed mods.
Sorry, I was mistaken, it was the 6" One Max that I owned. I returned it within 10 days of receiving it.

Camera and everything works pretty close to stock? Quality of the camera go down any without the stock OS?
Where does the speaker come from on the phone? Is it out of the top where ear piece is? Or is it on the back?

I use camera FV-5, I think it looks just as good. The speaker is on the back. If I were you, I'd make the trade with your buddy, before he changes his mind.
I don't know what software version the G3 will be on. Am I going to have any difficulty to get it rooted and then push the custom recovery to it depending on which software version it is?

I agree with everything said here but battery life I could get much more from both the gs5 and the HTC m8.
The screen doesn't get as bright as others but personally I never run over 75% brightness.

Thanks for the feedback, not so worried about battery if I can switch the batteries at will.
Looking for more feedback about the screen, brightness, quality, I use it a little in the sun, how the screen has aged. Thanks!
I used lux and it made a huge difference in my screen brightness. Looked way better than using the stock auto brightness setting!!
Stepdaughter has the m8, tmobile one, so she has removable battery. Both phones are good. Let's be honest, nowadays it's hard to put one phone over another as they are so close in specs/year.
I honestly can't see a huge difference in screen from my QHD screen to the htc. Both look phenomenal.
Battery life isn't all that good on the m8, but my stepdaughter has a lot of useless bloat crap on her phone and Facebook messages everyone and I swear it kills her battery life. I get close to 4 hours sot and about 18 hours before plugging in.
Have no issues with a case. I generally use the Unicorn Bettle Supacase which has total coverage and everything works fine.
Sound is okay on g3, but m8 trumps it.
Bluetooth works fine on both.
In the end, it's preference. Both good phones, with this better than the other and vice versa, but small victories really.
Oh, big one for me is the screen size to bezel ratio much better on g3. M8 is a big phone due to speakers.
Good luck

Well, I'd say the M8 is taller than the g3, but not by much.
From what I can tell, the G3 looks wider than the M8, but to me, it doesn't feel so wide. The curved back I think helps with giving that feeling that the phone is not too big in your hands.
I've never owned the M8, but I've seen it in stores and just didn't like the looks of it aesthetically. It just looked too industrial for me and almost iPhonish in it's shape.
I fell in love with the G3 as soon as I turned it on at the store and started playing with it. When I got home, I immediately came here to do research on it: can it be rooted, can I flash custom ROMs with custom kernels (not just stock kernels), what is the dev support like, etc.
Once I came into these forums and read, within an hour I was hooked and upgraded to get it. Not sad at all that I moved away from my unlocked RAZR HD (XT926). Yeah, it had an unlocked bootloader, but I also wanted a phone that was slated to get Lollipop, and since this phone just came out in July, 2014, I knew it would be slated for Lollipop and hopefully, by the time it came out, LP would be stable for it.
Also, with this phone being relatively new and seeing the amount of dev support it already has, I knew this was a phone to keep for a long time.
Definitely worth getting if you can. Hopefully, it's the 32gb version so that you have 3gb of memory. The 16gb version only gives you 2gb of memory for running your apps.
Thanks for the latest replies and opinions!
What has everyone's experience been with Verizon reception with the phone? I don't think the M8 is a great antenna phone, seems like my wife always has better reception and LTE when I don't on her iphone 5s.

I came from a Verizon G2 and have found the G3s radios to be in general superior to it. Insufficient data on the M8 as I've never owned one of those. I have issues with my device, solely based on where I work (interior of a structure with large quantities of rebar, concrete, and steel) so I get mixed 3G/LTE coverage all day. Even having said that, I generally leave the job site with about 60% of my battery left with moderate usage (and BT connection with my Moto 360 on all day)
The G3 is a great phone...I'd have no hesitation in suggesting its superior in most ways that matter to the common user than the M8. Just having the option to hot swap a battery on the fly makes the G3 in my book the clear winner. Plus the white with black screen is dead sexay.
Except, you cannot really hot swap a battery on the fly with an LG G3. If you plug in a charger then remove the low battery to replace it with a fully charged one, the phone immediately alerts that the battery is missing and shuts down.
My old VGNexus phones would work fine while plugged in with no battery, so I could hot-swap, but not the G3.
