The Note 4 is here. Worth the upgrade, or hang on to the N3 another year? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

The Note 4... Guess we should talk about it!? I like what I see from it. An upgrade from the Note 3 for sure, albeit not a major overhaul. Personally I will probably hold off until the Note 5, but I do hope to see some of the new software changes make their way over to the N3. So what do you guys think? Who's jumping ship?!

Same herr I would hold off until the note 5. But I would like to see some updates made to the n3 for sure

I do hope that the N3 gets the updates. If not from a regular update, then through a rooted version of the Note 4 software made available to the N3. I am currently using Jasmin, but I keep having lots of issues and would love an N3 version of this software update.

I would stick to my note 3. I really don't see any reason to go to note 4... not worth it

Work provides a N3 but I will wait to get the next one anyway, I have an S5 laying on my desk that I don't use. If I were to upgrade now I would get the Note Edge though not the 4

I'm holding off until I know N4 can be rooted.

Never intended to go with Note 4; enjoying my Note 3 into 2015.

I have the Note 3 now and am happy with where I am at now. I have hotspot as well as root access and it is incredibly stable. If I am going to upgrade, I am going with the Note Edge.

I'll wait and see what happens with the bootloader 1st. Whoever has an unlocked bootloader will get me there. Lol

This exactly. I sold my note 3 waiting for a phone with an unlocked bootloader and developer support like the galaxy nexus but I think i'm living in a fantasy world.

Got the Note 3 first day it was out based on Samsung reputation. BIG mistake. Love the features but the radio sucks. I'll wait to see if the radio/antennae problems have been fixed and then I won't consider it until it is rooted.

I'll wait till the N5 drops. Hopefully by then, it wont be about who can get the next model out and focus on more important things. I would like to see some improvement on the modem and CPU. I won't go and settle for the N4 that has basically all of the N3 qualities except for a higher megapixel and the heart monitor added. My wife's S5 has that, and we don't even use it. So that feature is just more bells and whistles to me. I need more RAM, and better quality radio personally.

Sticking with my Note 3. I am on VZW. So that thing will be locked down for a while. That I am assuming based on the current situation with the Note 3 bootloader. Also, they went back to USB 3.0. That also kills it for me. I am all 3.0. Especially since I am home one minuet and go eat the next. And I fill my memory fas. So I need to unload it fast. I will say this but with a bit of dissatisfaction. They did not leave us all out I the water like others. They kept the mSD slot. But allowing for only 64Gigs!? Oh well, I will wit for maybe the next gen, and most likely only if it gets rooted. But most definitely if the bootloader gets unlocked. Though not holding breath on that. LOl!

Note edge look like a better buy than note 4

Yeah, it seems a bit odd to have abandoned the USB 3.0... I have had no complaints about the connector on the N3. Seems like many people are going to skip the Note 4. Maybe they get a bunch of Note 2 users to upgrade, as many of them skipped the Note 3 for the same reasons. Not really a knock on the phone itself, and kind of nice that Samsung sticks to what works and doesn't make you feel like you have to get a new phone every year.
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

They needed the extra space used up by the USB 3 port for other reasons?
As long as the N4 can be rooted I expect SS will be made to work on it. Likely the same for the Edge.

If you already had it implemented why get rid of it. I don't have anything that runs 3.0 but that wider connection makes it a lot more sturdy. I've had more than one phone where the standard micro usb plug gets really loose and inconsistent (and I never use my phone when charging). The locked bootloader is the biggest deal breaker. If I had known the version note 3 bootloader would never have been unlocked I probably would have gone with a different phone but replaceable battery and as card are almost just as important

Put my vote down for the Edge as well. I like many of the Note's features and love the size, but agree that there isn't enough difference between the 3 and 4 except maybe a metal backbone.

For what it's worth, I think the camera is going to be the biggest seller for me. While I love my Note 3, if I've forgotten to turn Smart Stabilization off, I often miss photo opportunities with my kids or dogs. I'll take a picture, and then the 1 or 2 seconds it sits and process results in blurry shots or missed shots. I think I may jump to N4/Edge and sit with it for a few years as long as the OIS is as good in real life as they portrayed it today. The Note series has been great minus their sluggish cameras.

Week Until Release

Well 7 days as of Thanksgiving until this phone hits VZW customers pockets. I am really starting to get excited. Seems like its been such a long wait. This is going to be my phone for years to come. I am going to be investing alot into this phone. What are your thoughts on the Galaxy Note II right now?

Seriously, I can't wait. All these people saying they are getting 12hrs of heavy usage makes me ecstatic. I have been wondering if there is a use case for the media dock for me personally. I already have a pretty nice desktop. I think for my Dad would be perfect. His laptop needs to be replaced and he needs something with a big screen. Maybe just grab a generic touchscreen monitor and the media dock for him.

"This is going to be my phone for years to come" made me lol...I give it 6mo before the s4 or something else drops and you will be moving on. Although its getting to a point where upgrading is not a huge improvement anymore. I really dont think its going to have a huge WOW factor over the S3, but I must admit I still want one lol...mainly because I initally wanted the note but it never made it to VZW so I settled for the S3.
I'm excited too, but can't upgrade for another month. Doubt I'll be satisfied for "years" though. Android has come a long way since I bought my thunderbolt and I'm sure I'll feel that again in two years.
You never know maybe Q4 next year we'll have octocore phones lol
Maybe we should get some sort of count down timer. I've been waiting since the original Note for Verizon to get in the game.
Props to the person that puts the countdown on Verizon's homepage.

I hope the DNA fails miserably so Verizon feels our pain. I think that they will realize their error when they get mobbed by all of us next week. I have been waiting for a note on Verizon forever. Just a heads up, if you go to wirefly, it is 280.00

I'm getting 36+ hours with 7 hours screen on time on LTE. I haven't had to turn off LTE once. The Note 2 blows away the GS3 in every way. TW on JB seems like an improvement over the stock N7 experience.

Verizon delayed it for so long it almost feels obsolete already with new phones like Nexus 4 out and new ones probably coming out around Christmas time. On top of that, they crapped on the home button.

If you are going pick a phone that makes the Note 2 feel almost obsolete, I wouldn't go with the Nexus 4 (Android iPhone 5 without LTE?).
I can't wait to retire my Thunderbolt. Done with all the problems with this phone. Oh, and the crazy delayed updates.
I think until something else of a similar size comes out (Note 3?) This phone will keep me plenty happy.
It certainly has the hardware to run the Android OS for a long time to come.
Note 3 should be expected in about a year.

Not worried until the Note 3 comes out or until HTC and Motorola make a phablet with a S-Pen like device. The S4 could be released tomorrow and I would still pick the Note 2 unless Samsung start putting S-Pens in all devices.
I think i'll be set till the note 3 comes out or an equivalent device boasting a larger screen size. I would like to see a 6 inch phone since I don't have infant hands like the rest of you.

This. After playing with the Note II for an extended period of time at Best Buy today, I truly believe it's a really different experience from regular smartphones, especially after using the S-Pen. That hover feature on the S-Pen is not only incredibly cool, but also super useful (for previews, information pop-ups, etc). And I can see myself taking notes with S-Note and using its Knowledge Search feature often.
Oh, and I was with my brother and his gf as I was showing this phone off to them, and I think I converted her from being an iPhone fanboy to an Android fanboy by the end of my Note II demonstration. :highfive:
I was at the mall today for my third look at the Note II. The Sprint and ATT stores both have them out. I have one on preorder from Verizon, but can't get over the size. Tried it in my pocket (again!) and fooled around with the S-pen apps and really do like this phone a lot. I've decided I want a very thin cover that will give me a better grip when I have it in one hand, and a stylus that is larger that I can keep in my shirt pocket. I was going back and forth with the NoteII, DNA, or wait until summer, but the s-pen is a great feature that is unique to the Note's.

GNote 3 -- will you get it?

Will you guys be getting the Galaxy Note 3 for your next upgrade? My next upgrade is in March 2014 and I'm guessing the GNote 3 will be coming out in October/November 2013. You guys going to stick with the GNote line?
Based on current rumors, that is. I love my Note and the S-Pen (though I lost mine, but rarely used it before) but I don't know if I prefer Exynos 5 over the Snapdragon 800 or Tegra 4. As interesting as the 8-core big.Little is, Tegra 4/Snap 800 seem to more next generation.
I think I'll be ready for a change by then.
The note 3 will be a good choice I think...g

I can't wait for MWC 2013 so I can't imagine what MWC 2014 will bring.
I know we haven't seen any benchmarks but do you think Exynos 5 will be able to hold its own against NVidia and Qualcomm with Tegra 4 and the Snapdragon 800?
I most likely will. That's a massive footprint, but i adjusted to the Note after the HTC Evo 4G without any issue. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what all they do with it!

I wont be able upgrade til Feb 2014 by then the Note 3 will be too old I'll wait for the note 4 or Galaxy S 5 or perhaps something else. Leveno and Huawei are making a lot better devices and Sony is getting it's stuff back together. I used to love HTC til they removed batteries and expandable memory like Apple. Really like Nexus's update times too. Will just have to wait and see what's best at update time. Really like a 5.5 or bigger device with something like Spen must have removable battery and expandable memory and would like nexus O/S updates or a month or 2 later. Oh the answer to your question is no I will not get the Note 3.:highfive:

Similar situation with my upgrade in March 2014. I think I might end up switching companies, depending on how it goes at CES 2014 and MWC 2014. If there ends up being some revolutionary new devices/chipsets revealed, I could easily end up waiting a couple months to get a new phone. I'd love to keep the S-Pen but the Exynos 5 hasn't been appealing to me, though I guess that's a little early and I should wait for phones with it.
And you're right there. New companies are coming out with great phones. The Lenovo K900 looks fantastic. Sony also had a great showing with the new Xperia's. I just want to thank the Note for making other companies jump on the 5" form factor band wagon.
I wonder how the rumored "Motorola X" phone is going to be.
A
I would miss my s pen if I don't continue on the note..trust me, new phones are coming up..maybe even better, but that pen makes all the difference...I can't stop using it..makes everything so easy...I'm definitely getting the note 3 and every other note that follows...no more small screens...no more "s-penless" phones..

I'm actually hoping for some decent Note competition from other manufacturers. But if not, prolly so.
Depends on specs. I'm really looking forward to seeing if the lenovo k900 will be released stateside. All around, Lenovo has got my attention with it's Helix and the k900.
Seems like 2013 is all about the phablet. A lo t of lesser known brands coming out with 5+ screens I would expect other more well known OEMS to follow the same. Huaweii is releasing a 6.1 phone. Makes you wonder when enough is enough. I for see a 7 inch screen made with nothing but glass door with on screen nav bar. So As to cut corners while still making a real tablet of a phone. It will probably be Samsung as they can afford a flop If this bombs where as other OEMS might be cautious of such a gamble

Narrower than the Note 2? Hex no, keep this to yourself... jk. But it's this kinda talk that makes me wish other manufacturers would make a Note rival.

Samsung Galaxy S4 - Will you be upgrading?

I think at this point, if you have a Note 1, you're off contract or at least upgrade eligible. I was wowed by the HTC One, and looking forward to the event last night for the S4, but I was looking for a more significant hardware change. Samsung seems to be more interested in adding more and more features, but none of them were "must haves" for me. I'll be going with the HTC One for my next phone, and will keep my Note for work.
If this is the S4, the Note 3 will likely just be a larger version, probably around 5.8 inches.
Ironically, Samsung seems to be following in Apple's footsteps - they've found success with a particular design, so they have no impetus to push it forward, while HTC is designing some pretty amazing things, partly because they've always done that, but mostly because they need to do so.
When I saw the S4, I immediately thought of Samsung's dig at the iPhone 4S in one ad - "If it looks exactly the same as the last model, how will people know I upgraded?"
Plus, with all of that software, I doubt the S4 will get Key Lime Pie in the same year it's released.
Here's hoping for a $99 Note 2 in the near future.
I'll be getting the s4, the s3 has a ton of dev support and I'm sure the s4 will have just as much.

Honestly, no, while I love my Note, I don't like the look of the the S IV or Note 2. I don't like the button and I want something that looks like it's awesome. I've been eying the HTC One quite a bit and as the HTC Hero was my first Android device it seems only fair that I go with them. However I don't want to go down on screen size. I'm not greedy enough for Huweai's (sp?) 6.3 inch screen, but definitely no less than the OG Note's screen. However the final deciding factor for me is how the whole JB thing has paned out. If I'm spending premium $$$ then I want the best for my money's worth, and that means the latest and greatest software. I'm not a mindless consumer that doesn't demand the best bang for my buck. Not only do I demand it, I also put my money where my mouth is.

In not thrilled on the look but im tired of the og note and im sure there will be a ton of Dev support on it like most galaxy phones. I think the ONE is cool looking but I need a phone with removable battery and SD slot. The ONE doesn't have that so that's a no.

I'd have to agree with a couple of the posts above - the button doesn't excite me one bit. At the same time however, the Note isn't starving for power though. I know the Note 2 and S4 have much better hardware, but I just don't need it right now. We'll see what the Note 3 has in store for us, and then I'll go from there. For once though, I don't feel I *need* to upgrade.
I almost hate to say it, but I agree. This is the second time I've been burned by samsung (OG captivate owner) and I think I've learned my lesson here. The S4 does have some nice software features, but it didn't wow me as opposed to the S3 over the S2.
I think i'm waiting for the new Nexus phone or possibly the rumored Moto X phone. No replaceable battery or Micro SD is a deal breaker for me so I'm hoping at least one of the phones above support that though i'm not holding my breath on the nexus.
I love the speed of the JB roms, I just wish we had the drivers to have the roms stable. I gotta say that HTC did a great job with the One, if that thing had SD and removable battery, it would have been a grand slam.
MWC this year should be interesting.
Why don't you guys like the button? I don't mind it at all, to be honest. The super thin bezel is sweet too

If Nexus came out with a larger than 5 inch screen I'd jump right on it. Until something like that happen I'm going to keep on watching who treats their customers right and when it's upgrade time that's who'll get my money. I'm in love with the stylus and the screen size of the Note, but customer loyalty is a big factor when it comes to spending my shekels. You treat me good and I'll spend good money.
As far as why I don't like the button, it just seems old school and takes away from the elegance I want for $200 + device. And as far as the unremovable battery and lack of sd card slot...I can deal with that because you can't even really move apps to the sd card any more. And my N7 is the same way and we get along marvelously. All in all it's a preference thing.

I don't see any reason to upgrade just to have the newest thing. (Think about it SERIOUSLY. The "S" phones are Samsungs fanboy phone really. This is the phone that the AVERAGE user buys just because it's "new"....mostly Iphone converts and people that just want to have the "newest thing" to show off) Honestly, when I saw the s4 I was thinking, "wow, nice Note2 with a faster CPU". I didn't look at EVERYTHING the s4 is offering (software and all) but if I were to upgrade now (I have 4 upgrades I can use anytime I wish), I'd just get the Note 2 and be done with it. After using the OG Note (and the Dell Streak before this phone), I just can't see going to a smaller screen. Like dvdivx said, the Note 3 will be here before we know it and the S4 will look like a kids toy compared to what that phone is going to bring. They can call the S4 the "flagship" all they want but if you have read anything about what the N3 "is going to have" and then look at the specs of the S4 you can see that this phone is nothing but a little brother to the Note3. To me, the S4 release changes a lot of the N3 "rumors" to FACT and because of that, I'm not interested at all in this phone. Not to mention that there will be as many people walking around with the S4 as there are IPhone users. "I have the S4! It's the newest thing"......yeah well, I stopped thinking like that when I walked away from Apple FOREVER.
I'll be holding on to at least 3 of my upgrades though because there are BIG things coming at the end of the year from everything I've been reading. This might just be the year that changes what a smartphone looks and feels like. ( I'm sure there are some of you that know what I'm talking about)

I'm not eligible for an upgrade until early 2014. I just purchased the s3 on eBay and I'm planning on parting ways with the note 1. Next time I do upgrade, I'll probably go for the s4 or even the note 2 since they will probably be much cheaper by then with a contract extension

Why bother? The US version will probably not have the dual quad, just single quad.. So yes, more CPU than the current S3 but not a big deal. Same ram. Software I couldn't care less about.
Might as well save money on an S3, it's otherwise basically the same phone.
That said, nope. Maybe the Note 3 sometime, unless it's much bigger than it is today. I like my Note 1, but if it gets much bigger I'm not sure it's feasible.
Maybe we'll see

The fact that only the international version will come with the exynos 5 octa core while we'll get the Qualcomm in the US is a disappointment for me, and will be the only reason that as of now I'll say no, not getting it.

I will not get for the s4 either.
I definitely want to wait for the note 3 though. I can't get anything else now that I am used to the note. But, will the note 3 really get that big of a screen?

I myself want to get the note 3, but not so sure, if it will have a 6.3 inch, that's just to big to carry on the front pocket. That is .7 shy of carrying a 7 inch tablet in your pocket.

For those on the Fence!!!!

I know many people post and come here looking for guidance on whether they should keep the Note 1 or upgrade to the Note 2. And here is my honest opinion. Let me first start off by saying how much I loved the Note 1's size and that it pretty much keeps me locked into buying only a few devices based on that fact alone. And although the Note 2 is only .2 inches larger it packs enough other features to make it a great upgrade.
Now a little about Me. I am definitely a phone lover, I have had over 20 different phones in the past few years, and love trying out different brands and operating systems. But I usually like to stick to Stock and really don't mod my devices.
Let me first start off by saying had Samsung upgraded the Note 1 to Jelly bean, I probably would have the Note 1 Still. And yes, I know I could have installed Jelly Bean or had it installed by an experienced technician, but I prefer my devices to be stock. Although the Note 1 is an incredible device its hardware begin showing its age. The phone I once thought was very smooth started chugging along as more hardware intensive applications were installed on it. I would have too reset the phone every so often to help keep enough Ram free to keep things from slowing down too much, and did a few full factory wipes when things got too bad. But all in all the Note 1 is a good phone and I would still recommend it to someone who likes to mod, or to someone who wants the big screen of the note series but doesn't like the price tag of the Note 2.
Now onto why I think you will love the Note 2. Well, first If you like the Note 1 you will definitely like the Note 2, they share many things in common. Like I mentioned before the Note 2 screen is not much bigger that the Note 1. Second, Touchwiz although it has been refined more, its still touch wiz, and the software between most of the galaxy phones is very familiar which is a good thing. But, what the Note 2 improves on makes it worth purchasing. First the feature I love the most is the speed upgrade. With 2 GB of Ram this phones speeds through things and you will experience less waiting for web paged and apps to load. Second on the software side, Samsung has introduced knew features where when you take out the S pen or plug in the headphones It will take you to a special homepage where the necessary content is easily available, for instance if you plug in the head phones it takes you to a page with the music widget, this overall makes it easier to play music. A design feature that I love and is unique to the American Variants of the Note 1 is the home button. Fore some the four touch buttons might make navigating easier but I love double tapping the home button to turn the screen on especially when i'm trying to change songs while driving, and tapping once to exit an application.
Well I hope this helps someone on the fence, who is thinking but not quite sure what to do. To summarize the Note 1 is a great phone, but I believe the Note 2 packs enough new features and design elements to warrant an upgrade.
ive decided to keep my note, holding out hope for a JB update :good:
At this time I will wait for note3. We are only 5-6 months away...and I think we are going to get jelly bean upgrade soon anyway.with most of the note2 features included. There's really dont have any good reasons to get note2 now. Unless our phone broke.and u need a phone now..

Yeah I wished they would have upgraded the Note 1 to Jelly Bean already, but I got tired of waiting. But thats Googles fault they should start holding manufacturers accountable for there upgrades. Better yet manufacturers should start shipping all phones out with pure Android on them and the owner of the phone will have the choice of installing there skin or rocking the pure experience, atleast that way when an update comes out it will be available immediately and all the manufacturer would have to do is update its skin to the newest Android version, problem solved.

The Note 2 is a really good phone but in a few more months, the Note 3 is gonna be release and most of us are willing to keep our Notes til then. My girl has the Note 2 and even she says that the 16x10 screen ratio is better than the 16x9 ratio on the note 2.

The note 2 is light years ahead of this phone in every regard. This phone was like an experiment gone wrong.
If you think about it the gnote1 was the guinea pig. Notice every company is coming out with 5 inch phones now to compete with Samsung? Remember when our phone was a niche and people thought we were crazy??!

Just wondering...How was the OG Note like an experiment gone wrong?
More like the Dell Streak was a bad experiment.
The OG Note was the first 5+ inch screen phone that gained traction for Phablets. Plus bringing back the olden day stylus but making it do much more with features is damn well amazing.
Now...almost every mobile manufacturer and their grandmas are producing 5+ inch screens.

I believe AT&T still carries the OG Note so its not at the end of life like the HTC Droid DNA which got EOL within only 4 months. The Note 2 should've had 1080p full resolution...but I'm sure we'll see that on the Note 3 which will make the Note 2 obsolete. Nuff said

Proud owner of the I717 flashed to run on the Tmobile and it's MVNO's Network. Good points throughout this thread, the Dev Community has kept this device more than capable in my eyes. Had I the spare cash when the Note 2 came out, I probably would have grabbed one, but as other's have stated, the Note 3 is literally right around the corner, and will have the features that I'm looking for, namely the 1080 res, and more cores under the hood. Note 3 is my next device unless someone comes out of left field with something comparable.
I too wanted the Note 2 when it first came out. But since the Note 3 or Samsung's Mega phones are on the way, I'll just wait. Merry Christmas to me.

Well.......since getting the note 2, I can say without a doubt that it's simply a great device. Battery life is superb, and function with the quad core chip is nimble and effortless.
However, with every device comes it's setbacks, and the note 2 is no exception, with a borked up browser, weak glass screen, and resolution that is "NOT" improved over the note 1, just to name a few of the issues I've found.
The note 1 was a breakthrough device. And Samsung created a whole new user base with it. It's life is not even close to over, as the device is still sold in several markets world wide, and refurbished devices are flowing like water from Texas.
I love the note 1, and it will always hold a unique place in the handset world. so those of you who want to move over to the note 2, go ahead. It's a great device, but so is the note 1 in many ways.
Enjoy them both while they last, as we are sure to see a third version in the works soon. But for now, don't worry about it, as it's only a rumor......and we all know about rumors, and how they end up much different than the reality we live with.
Happy flashing....g
Samsung would be a fool if they didn't release another version of the BEST PHABLET on the market! It was probably the 2nd or 3rd Best selling Android last year. For all the doubters.
.Trust me...we'll see the Note 3!

Greg, can you elaborate on the weak glass screen? Is it flimsy compared to the 717 or has it broken on you?
Thanks bud!
I'm thinking of downgrading the screen size and going for a HTC ONE. Having a nexus 7, a surface pro, and a computer makes me feel like the galaxy note is neglected a lot and there's really no need for such a device now. I still want a smartphone, just not one this big since the nexus 7 is with me anyway. Oh well, to each his own. I did try and end up not buying the note 2.

I kid, and yet I dont, 16:9 drives me nuts! So nuts in fact that I refuse to buy ANY laptop/desktop monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio! Sure the laptop's are quickly becoming outdated, but ill switch to a tablet with 16:10 before I upgrade to a laptop with 16:9
A true 7" tablet phone (not phone tablet/phablet) with 16:10 before Id give up my GNote for the GNote 2 with 16:9! Well, that or a swap with my i717 for an n7000!

[Q] Note 3 or wait for Note 4?

I currently have, and love, a Note 2. Running Synergy ROM on Sprint
But, I'm jealous of those who have the Note 3 and have updated to 4.3 and even 4.4. My wife said I could use her upgrade now to get the 3 and she'll use mine in July to get her new phone.
I'm really tempted but am wondering if I should wait for the Note 4, whenever that will be.
Please, could you steer me a bit?
Thanks
won't it be 2 years for the note 4? what kind of cycle is samsung on I thought S then N they just did the Note 3 so next up is the S5 then after that the Note 4
The Note 2 has superior battery life to the Note 3 and the camera is better in the Note 2 for stills (a lot better) but the video in the Note 3 is amazing (4k is truly amazing 8MP frames !!!)
I also really love the 1080p panel! man do I love this panel. I put my Note 2 on boost now that I have my Note 3 on my sprint account.
I don't agree with the note 2 having better battery life or camera. The N4 will probably be out in ten months or so. Long time to wait. I would say it's worth getting now. Whether you find one off contract or through using an upgrade.
well my note 2 will go 25-30 hours medium usage on stock battery while my note 3 can't go 12 hours with medium usage. I am about to wipe the device to see if maybe something is hinky but its been like this since day 1.
the note 3 camera sucks balls. if you don't think so you don't have a note 2 or don't use the camera much.
noisier pictures. nearly USELESS in low light and absolutely rubbish dynamic range compared to the Note 2. the difference really is dramatic. I will have to take the time to post some sample images. I use the camera in both A LOT and the note 3 camera was a HUGE let down.
now for video its amazing. but not for stills.
10 months. nice my upgrade will be ready by then. I hope the iphone 6 comes out just after the Note 4 and really kicks some ass so I can get some free Note 4's
I've already had the s3, note 2 and currently have a s4 and note 3 and have taken a few thousand pictures total in combination. I am more than happy with the successors to the previous models.
S3 and n2 are equal photographically. I take several hundred pictures "a week" most of the time. I am not joking when I say I have probably taken 6 or 7 thousand pictures with my note 2 and that is being conservative.
Get a note 2 use a custom rom with note 3 features and wait for the note 4 saves you a few hundred
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
He already has a note 2 and is running a custom rom. Back on topic, go for the n3.
It depends on why you want the note 3.
For me the upgrade was desirable for these reasons
Larger screen
1080p panel
Dramatically improved front facing camera
4k video recording
Ir blaster
A minor nice feature is improved spen
Otherwise the n2 can do pretty much everything the note 3 can do.
The note 2 is about to get 4.3 so thats a non isssue
If you really dont need any of the above thinfs you are probably better off waiting for the n4.
If you really want the n3 you might want to consider the iphone 5s. Its cheaper than the n3 (not always) and you can trade it on cl for a note 3 pretty easily. Save some cash.

Q: Does the Note 3 offer a better Bluetooth experience or are they basically the same?
Q: I haven't been in the ROM forums (at least the new ROMS, I check Synergy daily with no updates) for awhile. I'd love to try a new one but have been hesitant to ask because every "Which ROM is best" thread is closed pretty fast.
I have no performance issues with Synergy but would love a ROM that's a little more updated and as stable. My Note 2 is Sprint
Would you suggest a ROM?
The Note 3 is a beast of a phone, with MUCH better camera(13 mp vs8), 3 GB of RAM, and quad Snapdragon processor. All of the hardware is faster, with a much lower power consumption. HOWEVER, if you are planning on rooting, forget it. Just look through the forums at all of the problems people have had, as well as the total lack of development. Having said that, many of the reasons to root(other than cosmetics) are gone.If 24-36 hours of battery aren't enough, get a 0Lemon 10k Mah battery. KitKat will be coming probably in February, which will bring further battery, and features. The Note 4 won't be out til Sept at the earliest, so those are the honest nuts and bolts answers. If you must have a custom ROM, and are happy with your 2, keep it, with the caveat that Samsung is releasing locked bootloaders with their updates, which may hose your root; If you want a much better phone/camera/battery, and realize that rooting will more than likely involve you in a nightmare of warranty/and/or bricked phone, go for the 3. It took a while for me to get over not having a custom ROM, after soft bricking/bricking 2 Note 3's(thank goodness i am with Sprint) But I am very happy with my 3. The biggest consideration is if you are in a market that Sprint is rolling out Spark in, hold out for a tri-band phone. Right now, the only decent phone that is tri-band is the LG G2. Hope that helps.....

Just 12 hours on medium usage? Good idea trying the wipe. If that doesn't fix it take it and get it replaced (even if you're knox is tripped. Sometimes they don't even check). Note 3 has great battery life. On a 12 hour day I use about 50-60% with average use. Good luck!

yes. I actually kept my note 2 stock as well and it was one of the first phones I've ever done so it even though there were a few features that were missing. The note 3 has everything I could ever want feature wise and I don't for see myself rooting anytime in the future.

I see a lot of you guys are keeping your note 3 stock and are not rooting them. My question is this, is there really that many problems trying to root this device? And besides custom roms/themes, why isnt anyone interested in the wifi tether? This feature is the main reason why I root all my phones, so I can have free mobile hotspot access. Is it still possible to have this feature or did sprint do away with it?

I rooted, installed TWRP and flashed a ROM and took all of 30 minutes. I waited about 2 months before I rooted mine hoping there would be a work around to not trip Knox but one day I asked myself "Have I ever sent any phone back to the manufacturer?" No I haven't. I have the Sprint asurion insurance so F*** Knox! I am now asking myself why did I even wait 2 months I should of did this day one. I've only rooted HTC phones and Samsung phones and this phone is very easy to root. I used Qbking77's videos, he and them are awesome.
