No Solutions have workd yet: unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope this is the best place to post this. If not, I am very sorry. I have found a few posts with same message BUT all of them I found were when this happens after installing a rom or updating, etc...
I have a Virgin s2. I just have original stock rom, Ive done nothing at all to it. I changed out my batteries, turned it on, then after it got loaded I got a popup saying "unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped"! I restarted then as soon as i tried to do something, i received it again. I restarted again & didnt get message til I had opened google & was waiting for search results to come up when I got message saying something about couldnt find a mobile network (or something like that), then got the "unfortunately the process....." popup. It started popping up over & over, including when I got a phone call (which made it impossible to answer, however I was able to call them back okay). I have already tried:
taking out the sdcard;
booting into recovery then wiping the cache partition;
booting into safe mode.
The popup &problem still continued. Oddly, after my husband ran "CM Security" though it found no problems, it was a little bit before it did it again and even now it doesnt popup quite as often as it had been but it still is enough to probably make the day at work very aggravating lol.
Please say theres still some hope! I'm not able to buy another phone right now. I am capable of doing anything possible to save it if you just tell me what would be best to do. I saw somewhere when I searched Google say that installing a custom recovery would probably fix it. If so, please point me to where I can find all the necessary things &instructions I need. Or if it would be better to do a factory reset, please tell me how to do it on this phone (or if I just need to go to recovery & simply do it).
ALSO I do have an identical s2 except it is Sprint & I havent came across a detailed guide for flashing the s2 from Sprint to Virgin that doesnt require the newest paid version of cdma workship, which i cannot currently afford.
Thank you for your time & assistance.

FIXED (at least so far)!
SOLVED!!! (I hope:fingers-crossed
Went ahead & just backed up contacts to sd card, then did a Reset through Recovery. So far no "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped" message. :highfive:

Great to hear you fixed (or partially fixed) your problem. The problem with updating stock roms using OTA or kies is that sometimes a factory reset or clearing the cache is required to remove some left over apps or unneeded files that might potentially make your phone give errors (like the ones you were experiencing). It is highly unlikely it is a software issue, unless it was a dodgy download, moreover unfinished file deletion or unneeded files would have caused this to happen.

[Q] Optimus T stops functioning after rooting

I recently purchased an Optimus T and rooted it with z4root and then installed Titanium Backup to delete some of the preinstalled apps, like the Pacman Demo.
As I was removing each app, (~5 at this point) the Home button suddenly stopped working, followed by total phone death. Even after factory reset, when I was trying to access the phone, eventually I was shown a "... setup.exe stopped responding..." (or something like that) message and my phone just stayed stuck on the booting screen (android) every time I restart (w/o entering factory reset).
Does anyone have any ideas, or know which apps can prevent the phone from booting properly? A list of safe apps to delete would be helpful too. I thought I was pretty cautious with removing only non essential apps, but it seem bricked. Thanks again!

About list off apps, I have to agree. Even it there is litle problem with dependencies, some minimum describe of these issue will be great!!
So, about your problem - I think, that you will have to download original ROM and do flashing with KDZ_FW_UPdater. (search on xda for more information).
But definitely, if it's possible I would try to install custom recovery throw adb shell (android SDK tools) and do backup of system for possibility to recovery or saving at least few data, and after try wipe and install one of custom ROM.
This happened to me after I tried deleting preinstalled apps on my Optimus One... Sent it in for repairs since it just stopped working. The tech guy said he did a "software update" and everything is good as new (except for the LGMITS error once in a while)
They didn't even bother trying to fix mine. They just told me to send it in and gave me a replacement.
So I finally figured out what I did wrong - basically when I was doing the deleting, I accidentally deleted the LG Home app, which effectively deactivated my (duh) home button and effectively stopped everything from functioning properly. For some reason I thought it was just a simple link from my phone directly to the LG website, as would happen with new PCs very often. Well... won't be doing THAT again.
However, my web2go button isn't working. I have to force quit every time I try to click on it. Can I just get rid of it or will it just give me more trouble later on?
At least you knew what went wrong with yours... I was just erasing CarHome and Layar and the LG App Adviser among other things i wont be using like Twitter and Latitude.
And they even gave you a new one x__x I had to wait 5 days before everything was good as new. After the first fix, USB debugging and mass storage stopped working so I sent it in for another "software update"...

Samsung Galaxy S3 resetting

Good afternoon all,
I have recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S3 via kies to Android 4.3. I couldn't do the update over the air as it was rooted. I had to go through and root my phone again through Odin and again all that went fine.
However since doing this I have had to restore my device 2 times as it shuts down every now and then and I find I 'lose' some apps...mainly games, which I find annoying. It also wipes any saved text messages.
At first I thought it was only losing apps that I'd downloaded through other means (i.e. not Play) but it appears not. I still have the apk files stored on the phone and have tried to re-install them but I get a message of 'app not installed'
Can anyone tell me why this is the case? As I have previously said it has only been since updating to Android 4.3. Not sure if it is due to rooting my phone (i'm guessing not).
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Chris

See multiple posts re OTA and root problems.
Suggest factory reset if that does not fix then flash stock 4.3 through Odin .
I know that I can't do OTA updates... My problem is that the phone will restart, without warning and when it reboots I have lost all my text messages and a few apps. Trying to reinstall the apk files gives me the error 'app not installed'
I have tried factory reset both through the recovery mode and the system settings, but nothing resolves it.
My phone is rooted and runs Android 4.3 which was updated through kies.
The apps it loses are games so that's not a major issue... It's all the text messages.
I have a very similar problem, phone always shuts down and restarts on it's own. A couple of times it has lost some apps but usually it just starts up again fine but it's very annoying. Sometimes it gets stuck in a boot loop too.
A Google search for random reboot or random shut down brings up a lot of results but no solution's, so it seems to be a common problem. It's not just the stock rom either as it still does it when rooted and running other roms.

Of how WiFi won't turn on and I don't know that I'm doing - Galaxy Grand 2 G7105

I got my hands on a Galaxy Grand 2 sm-g7105. Performed a factory reset from device and the system worked nicely enough. A particular third party app I wanted to use wouldn't load so I kept tweaking.
I rooted and set up a CWM recovery with Odin, then considered going with Resurrection Remix. I made a backup with CWM, wiped the device and set it up. It looked great but 'audioFX.apk' or something along those lines kept crashing every 30 seconds or so. It didn't cause me any problem besides the annoying crash notification, so i figured I could just remove the apk and be done with it. To my dismay, then the notification then piled up non-stop and the system become unusable.
I went and restored the backup on CWM. Then I'd get error notifications for this and that stopping working (basically the apps present on the backup that weren't on the stock rom), so I figured the backup was useless. Another mistake, I guess.
Performed another wipe, deleted the backup for space. Tried removing every piece of bloatware I could find before unrooting (I wanted to do that). Finally everything seemed to roll... except I deleted some important apk, SecDownloadManager I've come to believe, and at that point the Play Store couldn't update a thing, it got stuck on 'Downloading'.
So I did another wipe, just to find out that didn't restore the missing apks. Got my hands on a stock rom for my model (a different build than my origibal one, but to hell with it... right?). I got that working work Odin, but to my surprise that didn't seem to completely restore the apk mess, and I got a ton of crash apl notifications and even after logging on Google the play store didn't let me in to try and see if apps could update.
Finally, I found what is supposed to be the device's original rom. Odin'd it all the way. Everything seems to be where it belongs, but I cannot really check 'cause... NOW THE ****ING WI-FI WON'T TURN ON. It's not like it doesn't connect to my network, it just won't activate. I press the switch, or goes back off.
I tried rebooting, taking out the battery for some seconds, performing a factory reset from within the system, wiping from CWM, dialing *#0011# to access service mode and deactivating power-saving mode. Nothing works.
HELP, please.
I'd be happy if the WiFi just worked, but knowing why the hell a stock rom should give any headache or what I'm doing wrong for it to go so wrong might be a step towards the solution.
PS: I'm writing this as I recall, so the details might not be completely spot-on, but the broader problems were those.

P780 keeps "unfortunately stopped working" even after factory reset

First I'd like to thank you all for this forum, it helped us very much.
A few weeks ago My P780 (with english KitKat, rooted by seller) started showing these error messages "calendar has stopped working" "acore has stopped working" "google services has stopped working" "(random app) has stopped working". Only pushing the reset button got rid of these messages. These crashes became more and more frequent and I decided to try and solve it. I watched many "how to" videos on youtube and I decided to clear cache in factory mode. It did not solve it. Than I saved all my important data, and did a factory reset. The loading screen was on for too long, and I thought it froze, so I pushed reset. This made my phone to have a boot loop.
My brother has the exact same phone, and he did a Jellybean upgrade a year ago, and it was successful. So I have my phone to him, to repair it. Just by curiosity he did a memory check on HIS P780, and when he stopped it, it almost made his phone brick. So we had 2 identical bricked P780s.
After so many tries, he disconnected the battery and managed to recover his phone, and it works perfectly again. The strange thing is, he can't repair my phone though using the same method, same software, same driver, same cable and trying many ROM versions. After installing ROM, my phone works perfectly, but when he installs google services, all those "unfortunately stopped" error messages return. We can't understand why these error messages appear, if the phone was reflashed so many times and we tried so many ROMs. Does anybody have a clue?

Can you be more specific? What firmware did you flashed? Most of them have GAPPS installed.
Did you flashed the firmware with SP Flash Tool?

Yes, we used SP Flash Tool.
We tried firmware/ROM: "s129" (factory) and "p780_s941_vibeui_v2.0_1512". Both without GAPPS, because our phones are CE (china), not ROW (rest of the world). CE firmware does not include GAPPS. Tomorrow we will try to install ROW firmware.

Ok. I understand now. Try to flash ROW and see what is going on.

We installed VIBEUI_2.0_1512_7.149_1_ST_P780_baralajbi, this version included GAPPS and it workes perfectly. Everything is way better than the factory ROM. Unfortunately after a few days of usage the same problem returned (android unfortunately stopped), but now I noticed something. My phone keeps overheating.
I remember now, this has happened before, with the factory ROM, my phone became hot all the time, but I thought it's because of the very hot summer temperature. Now I noticed, that even if I keep the phone in my pocket, wifi, data transfer, gps, and everything turned off, not many applications running in the background, and my phone is still quite hot. When I turn the screen on and start using some apps, after 10-15 minutes it crashes.

Impossibly persistent problem even after reset

I have a Sprint Note 3 and I am having the dreaded "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped" problem.
I tried every single fix I found online. Even the stupid ones I new wouldn't work. I finally caved and did a full wipe. Low and behold, on the very first setup screen the error message immediately popped up.
I am stock (whatever the latest version is) and rooted.
If factory reset doesn't work I don't know what else would work. That's usually the last recourse. Any suggestions? HELP!
Do I maybe need to re-flash the stock rom? If so, can someone please provide a link?
