Unblock texting - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Texting on my phone has been blocked for a good while now and would like ir enabled, I have tried, in vain, to get my parents to enable it (I'm 14 so I cant pay for my own phone) so I was wondering if there was a way using a root or mod if I could enable texting or simy get passed the wall blocking it.

It's blocked by your network provider, there is no way around it.
It's there for a reason, try working on the reason instead.

Unable to access Market

I have had my hero for a couple and I have reall only used it on wifi then when I tried to acces the market without it without wifi it keeps sayin a network error has occured and I dont know what to do anybody know how to fix this?
-US
-T-Mobile
Probably different here in the UK, but due to TMobile restrictions here I had to ring up and get my account restrictions removed (standard for every new member). The Market worked find after that.
On the other hand, I quite often get that message in the market, seems to be a funny wifi issue. Turning wifi off then back on again and it returns to normal!
Probably s different for uk tmobile but i guess ill give a try and call tmobile if there is any restrictions int hat manner that wont let me get on the market I just hope this is fixable. Its the same for the internet too it says to enable my mobile network or wifi.
See http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=1a743e9b86168207&hl=en
thats not my problem martin I set up my google account when I first started up the phone so and everything works fine when im on wifi and I can access the market but as soon as i turn the wifi off I cant browse the internet or market when I try to get on the market it says network error and when I try to access the internt it says I require network access enable mobile network to download data
Have you set up an APN for T-Mobile US?
Regards,
Dave

GPS phone locator

Ok so basically all i want to do is this: find my phone if I lose it or it's stolen, even if the sim card is changed.
If the sim card is not changed-I have installed sms gps enabler and after that if I lose the phone I can enable wifi and gps with an sms, and then should use seekdroid to find the phone BUT the phone must be conected to a wifi network with internet connection to actually be able to find the phone on the site..so it kind of sucks.
So, any suggestions? As I said I can enable gps remotely but would need an app to send gps coord through sms(or something like that) and use and online app to find the phone on the map.
I think this is what you're looking for...
(hey, look, it's free)

I'm considering installing that also, but I don't have the habit of leaving location enabled (well, it still can enable it remotely through internet or SMS).
But, after all, it seems simply fantastic!!!
lots of features but for me it only works if wifi enabled and connected to a network..
you can always enable connection by sendind proper sms. Dont worry
SMS features are similar to internet features I think.
yes you can enable wifi with an sms BUT maybe the phone is in an area that doesn't have any wireless networks...and even if there are any , the phone will not automatically connect to a wireless network...

Ok, as I said in the first post, the phone needs wifi for you to locate it online using seekdroid website and I said that I would want something that uses only sms messaging and (eventually) real time locating on a map

Well, you're right. After many efforts I found it to be the best option for finding the phone. You just send the attention word for the gps, the gps goes on and in a few minutes you get the gps coordonates for your phone as well as a google maps link to the location. When you think you are close enough you can text the attention word and the phone will ring with max volume no matter if silent/vibrate setting is selected. Also, if sim card is changed it will send the new number to a preselected phone number.
In my opinion, if this software would have had some real time tracking through on online map it would have been perfect. Anyway, as said, I think this is the best option if you ever lose your phone or it gets stolen.

Hotspot problems - Cannot use hotspot from laptp

I have full 3G signal on my Samsung Galaxy S2, and I can easily use the browser on the phone to browse, as well as I am connected to Skype.
However the hotspot I am creating does not work for my laptop.
- My computer is connecting and gets an ip
- The android phone is still working
- I can create Open network or WPA2 PSK, yet none do any difference
- Even if I receive an ip address on the laptop, it still wont let me browse. It wont even let me browse on ip's, so its not even a DNS error.
I am out of options at the moment and I cant figure out what to do from here. I cant seem to find any solution anywhere, so XDA is my best hope.
And I even tested this from 2 different computers. One running Win XP another Win 7. None of them were able to connect (past) the hotspot.

There's some weird behavior on the native hotspot function. Are you using WPA2 encryption? Does it work with no encryption? (this is typical)
I read somewhere if you are using WPA2 encryption, and use an 8 digit password (must be digits - no letters, and has to be 8 long, exactly), then it will work.
did it ever work before? Is it possible that your carrier blocks tethering? Does usb tethering work?
It did not work with: no encryption either
However I will try now to see if it will work with WPA2 and 8 digits only.
Do you know of any app that allows me to fine tune the hotspot settings on the phone? I want to select more options than the two it gives me at the moment.
EDIT: Haha this is so insanely stupid. I am talking to Orange UK at the moment and apparently they have BLOCKED tethering!!! I am already paying for a 500MB package on my subscription but this does not include tethering. I have to pay another 4£ for 500MB which will be specifically for tethering. WTF! They are selling the same product twice????
EDIT 2: They are telling me that this is an Android block installed by Orange. Question is how I can get around this and use my existing 500MB. Does anyone know how this can be solved?

Yeah, lots of carriers do this stupidity. Just root and install wireless tether for root users.

Tethering/Hotspot control

I have what probably is a strange request, but here goes:
I'm getting the kid a Galaxy S2 for Christmas - it costs just as much to add her to my plan as it does to buy the prepaid minutes for her
I need to know if there's an app out there that can "lock" the ability to use tethering and mobile hotspot. Yeah, I know she can just download a different tethering app from Google Play and use that, but I want to make it a little more difficult for her Ideally it would have a "schedule" where it can be locked out during certain times, or at the very least a "passcode" that can be entered to allow the access.
I'm not concerned with data usage, but at home I have the Wifi turn off at midnight so she'll actually go to bed, and I know if she can tether or use the hotspot she'll just do that and stay up and watch anime all night
So, is there something out there that can do this? My searches have been rather fruitless so far.

How can you get internet on your phone with no wifi or service

I've done this on my computer a few years back when I was late on paying my internet bill, and at&t temp cut off my service, but was still able to get around that using Tor. Was wondering if the same can be done with an android phone by way of vpn or some sort. And also if it can be done with a phone that has no service at all
I've done some quick google searching and methods like Droid VPN, Element53, and Proxy Droid, but couldnt get any to work.
