[Q] Problem with cyanogenmod 11 galaxy s3 i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I'm new so I can't post in the thread of the cyanogenmod rom. Not knowing what to do, I opened a new thread hoping you can help me. I installed the CyanogenMod 11 cm-11-20140907-NIGHTLY-i9300 (yesterday) in my galaxy s3 i9300 but I noticed a problem: avi videos don't work(xvid codec). In the stock version of my os (4.3 stock) I had no problems with any video (worked all videos, avi, mkv, ...) with any codec. I tried to install other players such as VLC or mxplayer but nothing. Avi movies do not start (the mkv instead work). It is a problem of CyanogenMod? You also have the same problem?
Thanks

in Mx player just before the movie starts press pause. and change HW decoder to SW decoder or vice versa and try.

Remember to install the mx player codes (armv7) and if it still doesnt work change the decoding method to software as that always works even though it's less efficient

Video Playback issues

Dear Community
I used to watch Television on my Galaxy S2 (Samsung official Firmware XXKI3 installed).
Because of the features i decided to flash the MIUI aftermarket Firmware.
After installation everything worked fine except the video Playback for http Streaming (m3u8)
It doesn't work neither with Mobo Video Player nor wit mx Video Player.
It used to work with the built in video Player (video) from Samsung.
Any help appreciated.
Greetings

As this seems to be MIUI related, please post your question in the MIUI thread.
Good luck !

[Q] MKV files aren't playing anymore

Hi All,
I've read a bunch of thread but none of them has resolve my problem.
I was used to play MKV files with my Galaxy S2 without any problems with the default player.
But since I've made a restore of my phone, I'm now unable to play the same MKV file. There's only sound, no image. (I have tried some other player, none of them have worked)
Anyone has an idea of what's going on here? Am I missing a codec or something?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Are you on stock Samsung ROM?
Yes I'm using the original ROM
Model Number: GT-I9100M
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100MUGKG2
When I connect my device to Kies, it shows me that it is up to date.
No idea what could have happened?!
No .
You could try factory reset again .
You could try copy a new file and see how that plays .
jje
Ok thanks, I'll save everything and do a reset and see what will happen.
Still doesn't work, I really don't know why, that pisses me off.....
This is the movie I'm trying to play with my phone.
File Type: MKV
Size: 2213.18MB
Video Size: 1920 x 1080
Length 01:01:08
Video codec: h264
Sound codec: Dolby AC3 / FAST Multimedia AG DVM
Planet Earth from BBC
Try to clear data and cache from your video-app in settings > apps > runing apps > all

Thanks for the advice, but it still doesn't work.
I'm wondering if there's any kind of limitation inside the new Virgin firmware or ROM that doesn't allow me to play MKV files, cause I've tried with other MKV files in 720p and this is not working either, so it's not a corrupted file or anything.
Update:
I took a look at diffrent Galaxy S2 spec from Canada and United States
Here's what I've found:
Canadian (Virgin):
Video format supported: 3GP, MP4 and WMV (unprotected)
US (AT&T):
Video format supported: 3GP, AAC, AAC+, AMRNB,AVI,eAAC+,H.263, H.264, MP4,MPEG4, QCIF, WMV; Video, Streaming
I think I'll need to unlock my phone, do you guys think it will allow me to view my files?
Thanks again

Have you tried MX Video player? I think it's the best videoplayer available on market and it supports almost all file extensions.

Is there something to do when you have problems with MKV files?!
I didn't find a solution for that.

[Q] Issue with MKV playback

Hi guys,
I am having issue streaming MKV files off a Windows share from my S3.
I am using DicePlayer, and even tried other ones (MX, VLC beta and other ones ...).
The application will be buffering and then go back to the file browser.
I was using the exact same technic with my S2 and it worked just fine.
I am using the stock Samsung ROM, rooted.
Have you guys tried that at all?
I haven't tried to store the mkv on the SD/internalSD storage yet but that would defeat the purpose ...
Thanks !

[Q] SlimBean 2.4 i9100 - MX Player (video codecs)

Hello,
I have an i9100 running Slimbean 2.4. I have an issue playing back video files. Slimbean 2.4 does not come with a video player, so I installed MX Player, but even via the ARMv7 codec it does not play any files.
I have tried MX Player on the i9100 using CM10 nightly, NeatRom, and Samsung original (rooted), and here it plays the files without an issue.
I tried to move the Video Player from the Samsung stock to SlimBean, but of course this failed horribly.
Any advice?

Download Dice player or Bsplayer. Both are very good and works well in Jellybean with any need for any codec again.
Mxplayer is good but is note m not that compatible with Jellybean.

Thanks for the app recommendations, I will try them, since right now I am using a V Player. I think it was called V Player, but I tried so many and most do not offer good software decoding or proper hardware decoding.
However, MX Player was updated a few days ago to support Jelly Bean. And again if it works in CM10, which is JB based, then it should work in SlimBean... or not?

Yeah! But it still doesn't work well for me even after the so called update.
Those apps i recommended use their own integrated hw accelerated codecs even on AOSP ROMs and therefore will not freeze your phone unlike players like Vplayer or Mxplayer, that works with their own sw accelerated codecs alone.

Thanks for the advice. I tried both DICE and BS Player, the UI on BS is a bit to big and clunky for me, so I seltted on DICE. After trying it for a few hours, DICE has certainly become my favourite new player. I will even start using it on my other Android devices.
Again, thanks for the help!
My God, DICE player is so very good!!
Thanks for the suggestion - very impressed with the pop-out video play!
For popup up video play use super video(but if mx does not work super wont work either)
Basically it has better pop up features
Free version can play 2 popups simultaneously
Full version can play more than that
DICE is the best(it even allows fast forward(2x speed)like VLC on mobile)

[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 MKV files

Hi all,
I am using MX player to watch videos and it seems to lag with some MKV files. There is no lag on avi/mp4 files, and sometimes even some mkv's work. Recently though I am unable to play any MKVs without lag. I'm unsure if this is how the system works, but I am unable to use the HW/HW+ decoder on any MKV files.
Today I flashed a custom rom onto my galaxy tab 2 and tried overclocking, but I haven't noticed any difference. ( I may be doing something wrong). It seems that I have the same issue with other players too.
If someone could help me out, that would be great. I'm not sure if I need a settings change, new player, different overclock values, etc. Hopefully it's possible to watch my MKV files
Edit: If someone could also suggest if there is a certain rom that helps too I'd appreciate it.

I don't know, but i could suggest you to post this in the right section, this is for the galaxy tab 10.1 (gt-p75xx) not the tab 2 10.1 (gt-p51xx) lol
