[Q] Soft brick, stuck on Samsung screen, no recovery mode - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Background
I've got a SGS2 from a friend that is stuck on the Samsung logo (the one after the boot logo, with the swirl/pulse logo). I cannot get into recovery nor download mode with the volume up (down) + home + power key combination but I do get into download mode with a USB JIG. I am certain that the phone was pure stock and fairly certain that it had Android 4.1.2 on it before I got it.
I followed the
[GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII. I used the I9100XWLSD firmware, but I remained stuck on the Samsung logo. I also flashed the Kernel (nothing changed) and the Bootloader (+ Kernel + Firmware again) as mentioned in the thread above, but still nothing changed, i.e. stuck on logo, no recovery or download mode via key combo.
Last thing I tried is the Siyah S2-v6.0beta5 Kernel as mentioned here. Now I am stuck on a 'Android gets updated, Apps are opened' screen.
Questions
What else can I try?
Ideally I would like to get access to the internal memory, because there is still stuff on there that was not backuped. What that still be possible?
If I would get it back to run I would like to put CM11 on it.
Thanks!

Did you hold the button combinations when your phone is off for more than 4 seconds? If you flash a kitkat kernel that is newer and doesn't support jellybean (I know this sounds crazy, but just listen), your phone should automatically boot into the recovery after being unable to boot into the rom. Have you done a factory reset and wipe the cache partition yet? Do that in the recovery and flash the jelly bean kernel again.

Yes, I almost got blisters on my fingers, thats how often (and long) I tried it. Also released the power button but continued to hold vol-up+menu as soon as the boot screen showed up.

Does sound a little crazy indeed, but it also makes sense to add such a feature (i.e. boot into recovery if rom isn't present). Any particular suggestion for a KitKat kernel or should I just pick one of those mentioned here?

Nope, no recovery, ergo no factory reset (or is there another way with a softbricked phone?)
Anyway, that would delete the userdata from the phone as well (e.g. photos), correct? Or are they already gone due to my rom flashing etc.? Oh wait, there is this difference between internal memory and internal usb storage, right?
Update
So I could not decide which one of Kitkat Kernels mentioned here to take. But I tried flashing the CWM recovery files, both GT-I9100_JB_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.2.9.tar and CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.tar, with Odin. Flashing went fine, but on boot I only see the bootlogo and then the screen went black.
Any suggestion on what other kernel I could try would be welcome.

The guide which you used for flashing the kernel was for GB and ICS. Now as you have stated your friend's phone is running on JB.
I think you have not rooted your phone correctly but if you have done so try going into download mode thru Usb Jig and install the latest cwm recovery and flash a custom rom (don't flash cm11 directly)

Yes, I realized that I probably used the wrong kernel from the guide, but AFAIK the I9100XWLSD firmware also contains a kernel, so that should not be a problem (i.e. the kernel was flashed again when I flashed the firmware). I did try the CWM recovery (see my edit above), but to no avail, since I does not take me into recovery mode either. (I assume that you mean that I should flash CM11 from the CWM, not through Odin).

Did you do backup of your stock ROM. If you can revert to the Samsung logo where you were stuck earlier (boot animation) I think then I can help you

I don't have a backup of the original ROM, but I can flash a stock ROM and that still gets stuck on the animated Samsung logo.

Anybody else with an idea?

Reset Phone In Settings - Now Won't Boot

Hello,
I was going to sell my phone to a friend today. I was running CWM recovery and paranoid android ICS. Anyways, I simply went to settings --- > factory reset ---> checked "wipe sd card" and hit OK.
Now it won't boot. It'll go to the Galaxy S II screen and shutoff. It boot loops while trying to boot into recovery mode.
I can, however, get it into download mode. I was looking at guides on here on how to reset it and are confused as can be. Where can I download Heimdall (yes, I googled it, couldn't find the download on their site.)
I'm on Mac OS X, if that helps, however I can get windows if it'll make everything easier.
Thank you
Use the guide linked in my signature, for returning the phone to stock. Link for heimdall is in the guide.
First enter recovery if possible, and perform a wipe data/factory reset from within recovery. If successful, joy.
If not successful, then flash stock using Heimdall, or borrow a pc and use Odin.
Forgot what I said earlier...I hooked up my Windows 7 SSD and booted into Windows.
I flashed everything successfully in Odin (only flashed a PDA/Phone part, not bootloader or CSC.)
Now it's stuck looping "Rethink Possible" AT&T Logo. However, I can get into some form of android recover. I don't know what I can flash through it, though.
Any help?
Thank you

stuck in boot similar problem
I'm having trouble booting my phone. I rooted using Odin3 and siyah 3.4.2 it flashed i was no longer able to view video or the live picture of the camera. I was using another site galaxys2root.com as my guide and failed to be resolved in the forum there. In an attempt to resolve the issue I went into factory reset using power vol+ vol- and tried to wipe the system but it didnt reset competely still had the siyah running. I then attempted to use reset within setting and now i am stuck at the first boot screen "samsung galaxy sII GT-I9100". It will also show charging but only briefly then it goes black. I would just like to get back to stock ROM if possible. Please advise.

Bad choice going to galaxys2root.com. Now I have said it. Let see what we can do to get you back.
1st - if you can get into the recovery mode, go here and download AJ's Siyah kernel. Download your favorite ROM
2nd - Flash the ROM first, then Flash Siyah kernel through recovery. Reboot and you should be good to go.
Enjoy.

Stuck on clockwork recovery logo bootloop

Hey guys,
I flashed GlamourROM for Android 4.3 yesterday. It was working perfectly, so I decided to delete an old backup from recovery. I have ClockworkMod v6.0.4 running on the phone. The phone was rebooting perfectly prior to this, so I didn't see any reason to worry when I rebooted it into recovery. This is when the problem started.
The phone shows the Samsung S3 splash screen, displays the Clockwork hat logo for a split second (black background, not even the usual greyish) and then bootloops (times infinity).
I tried cold reboot, hard reboot and every other trip I could think of. The phone does go into download mode, so that's still there. Any help is welcome ... I'm really worried about this.
Flash another recovery via odin.

Hey, I flashed the stock firmware (that I downloaded from sammobile) and it passed! But this was a short-lived relief, because now its stuck in the logo bootloop - without the clockwork mod logo, so a small win there, I guess!
Now what?

Strange issue: Restored to stock FS in ODIN, endless boot animation

I was being a total dumbf**k yesterday and screwing with my Galaxy Player 5.0 to install Lollipop. I installed it, but I couldn't install Gapps, so I used ODIN tonight to attempt to restore it. Problem was, I installed the kernel in the Bootloader section, not the PDA section. I finally ended up installing it, however the boot animation is endless now. It only plays the sound at first bootup, then it shows the normal boot screen endlessly. Anyone help me as a stupid guy doing stupid things?
EDIT: I just installed Entropy's Daily kernel over it, however that did nothing. Also, I can not get to recovery AT ALL. In fact, I'm holding the button combo right now!
Can you access the Bootloader Menu on your YP - G70 ('DOWNLOAD Mode')?

You need to boot into download mode then flash the stock ROM with odin.
Then boot into recovery mode and do a factory data reset and cache wipe.
If it still does not work try flashing the stock ROM with the pit file.
Both the ROM and pit file can be found here:

When you flash the stock ROM, wait until you get to endless boot, then power off your device. Hold Up+Power until you see the Samsung logo. Go to Wipe data/factory reset, wipe, then restart your device. It's because the partitions aren't formatted, so no temporary data can be stored on the /data partition until you factory reset and it formats /data and /cache.

[Q] Can't go into recovery mode.

Hey guys I need some help. I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 with NK1. I rooted it by flashing back to NC5 and then rooting then flashing back to NK1, that part worked perfectly fine. I then wanted to install a recovery so I used the CWM app and thats where things went wrong. After doing so it said it did it successfully but when I clicked boot into recovery so I can install CM12 it did not boot into recovery it instead booted straight to the Odin screen with the Android logo in the middle and below it saying "Downloading", and also has the text in the top left corner.
I am hoping someone has an answer on how to fix this.
Thanks!
Also to add onto that I am able to boot up my phone normally its not that its stuck in a boot loop where I can't get past that point. It only happens when I try to go into recovery mode that it take me to the Odin screen. When I do the steps for booting into Recovery it shows the samsung logo and then the blue text that usually comes up in the top left corner flashes for a millisecond and then the screen transitions to the Odin screen

Yessir I installed it, what would be the next step?
Read how to use it. If you installed the recovery (not just the apk), reboot your phone and you'll see the screen and directions how to enter ss recovery.
From there you'll be able to wipe your phone.
Not sure how it'll work with you trying to install cwm. If this doesn't work, odin'ing back to stock and starting over might be your next option (unless someone else can suggest something)
Aslo, if you're stuck in that boot, you can pull the battery,
then hold the volume down, home and power to get the the download screen,
choose restart the phone
this worked for me when I was in a boot loop
This won't fix your recovery mode issue though, but you'll be able to use your phone in the mean time

Stuck boot loop and Volume Up broken (can't access recovery)

Just like the title says stuck on boot loop (stock rom) and my volume up button broken so i cant access recovery at all , And adb shows no devices however odin can see the phone So i cant use (adb reboot recovery)
Any way to access recovery ? Or i'm just trapped there?
Flash recovery through Odin. It may boot directly into recovery. Did your button break after you flashed the phone? Are you 100% sure it's broken? I've cracked open an S3 and it's not an easy thing to break.
Use the latest tar from: https://dl.twrp.me/i9300/
Worst comes to worst, reflash stock - root/flash recovery, and then make sure you follow through with the process correctly. I managed to mod an unmodded i9300 4.1.3 to rooted/MM/recovery/F2fs in under an hr.
