unable to auto-hibernate Zalo - Greenify

@ OP : can you install Zalo, an OTT app like Whatapps, Viber and try to let Greenify auto-hibernate it ? On my LG G2, it s unable to auto-hibernate the app at all . TIA

Hi,
If this is off topic here, please forgive me. It's actual thread is closed, but it has to do with Greenify.
I want to install Greenify4Magisk, but the instructions leave me confused!
* Are you supposed to have both Greenify and Greenify4Magisk installed?
* If so, which one do you install first?
* It talks about how it doesn't use the Xposed Root stuff, does that mean I shouldn't have the Donation package installed?
The instructions can be taken either way on these important points.

Thanks

Negative, either Greenify or Greenify4Magisk is sufficient. I assume that also answers the second question.
Unless you're also running Xposed I'd suggested Greenify4Magisk otherwise Greenify.
@abacate123, the dev of Greenify4Magisk states in the OP of his thread:
...* Note: You won't get any xposed-side features, since magisk is NOT xposed!...

i.e. you only get the Xposed-features with Xposed installed but not as a simple Magisk-module.
And you should always have the donation package, even if it's simply to support the developer and the development.
Finally, and I leave it to you for consideration: Two days ago, abacate123 obviously decided not to support Greenify4Magisk any longer (refer to here) and got his thread closed.

Addendums to @Oswald Boelcke's excellent response:
- Making Greenify a 'system app' (using the appropriate Magisk module/tool) accomplishes the same thing as Greenify4Magisk
- I could care less about hiding root; installing Xposed framework provides a superior UX while allowing natural updates via the Play Store

Thanks for quoting that. Here's what I found out by trying it:
Just installing the Magisk version provides a working Greenify as a System app and if you have Xposed for Magisk installed (I do), then you get the Xposed features of Greenify too. Just FYI. I haven't done anything beyond that, but at least it answered one question.
My biggest questions now are:
1) Whether or not it's a good idea to greenify System apps/processes like I normally would.
2) What about the Doze or whatever it is that's in Oreo. Won't it conflict?
You see, I had this phone set up with Magisk before (I'm new to it), with all the goodies (regular versions) I would normally use on it and it started going nuts and it went downhill too fast for me to diagnose and it became unusable.
So I don't know what caused it and I didn't know there was an "Xposed for Magisk", for example.
I'm just trying to be careful this time and examine everything before I do it.

Thank you for answering!
Here's what happened: When you install Greenify4Magisk and you have Xposed for Magisk installed, you do get all of the Xposed (Donation) functionality and usage-wise, don't need it installed.
However, I only know what those functions would be, because I bought it a long time ago. I always support the cause.
But now that he's not supporting it anymore, should I just uninstall it and use the regular Greenify app and manually move it to Priv-App to make it work right with Magisk?
Sorry, new to Magisk and I already hosed my phone once. Being careful now! <lol>
Thanks!

@Zeuszoos: I'm very glad to see that you could benefit from @Davey126's very helpful post. Just as a side-remark, in this case I suggest to hit the "thanks"-button in the lowver left corner of his post (if using a browser) or the :good:-button in XDA Labs to publicly show your appreciation (this procedure is very common use on XDA!).
Just an amendment to the information I provided above: @abacate123 indicate also in his GitHub-page that Greenify4Magisk v4.5.1 was the very last release.
I don't know who or what adviced you that Greenify and Greenify4Magisk should be installed in parallel, I'd simply say - forget it. Only one is required. As Greenify4Magisk obviously reached its end of life, I suggest to have only the "genuine" Grennify installed.
As you see from my screenshots, my Greenify isn't installed at /priv-app; and I don't know why? It's working with Xposed, which is much more effective as a Magisk module? Just forget Magisk and all you stated in that respect.
The complete spectrum of Greenify's functionalities can only be achieved with Xposed. Just take abacate123's statement as granted; he clearly announced it.
Doze on Oreo is working great as far as I read. It's seems to be even better on Pie. But I've no own experiences as I refrain to leave the "nougat-level" for different reasons. However, if I was on Oreo or Pie I'd probably consider to not use Greenify at all. These are personal consideration, and in my opinion somebody using Oreo or Pie could just run a try.

I appreciate all that you put into this post!
My motive is to simply get of course the best performance possible, without hosing my phone, which I've already done and don't want a repeat of.
With Magisk being a "Systemless" setup and lots of warnings out there, I'm just trying to step carefully. Last time, I had Magisk on and installed regular Greenify and Xposed on it and assume it was one of them. Again, just trying to be careful this time, as Magisk does not fall within my wheelhouse.
I have no problem reading on my own and I did. But so many write in a way that is as if the person already knows and I end up walking away with more questions, not less.
No one told me to install both. It's that the way it was worded, it wasn't clear to me if it was the Greenify one runs, or if it was a module that gets installed in addition to the normal Greenify and gives it Boost and sets it up in priv-app, etc.. Normally I would just try it and see, but I'm a bit nervous about it, given my last results.
Thank you again and I will look carefully at your images.
I am also going to look into something called LDB & NLT, which supposedly LG uses to do some sort of tracking and it eats a few hundred K of RAM.
Anyway, I'll switch back to the regular Greenify and set it up in priv-app and go from there.
I did hit the "Thanks" button.

@Zeuszoos
As a past and current user of Greenify on various devices, I will add my two cents.
I believe you are running Oreo. If that is the case, Greenify may or may not be required depending on the behaviour of your chosen apps. Doze is good on Oreo and excellent on Pie in my experience, so normally I expect Doze itself to take care of any drain issues.
In the event you face undue drain, don't immediately greenify any system apps. Install BBS and save an idle dump from it and study it to identify which apps are misbehaving and whether there is a native way of controlling it from its settings. When you find it impossible, then greenify it.
In my experience, greenifying any third party app will not cause any issues except some delay in notifications etc which can also be managed. But greenifying a system app requires some experience on what and what not to greenify. If you have to do it, greenify only one system app at a time, study its effects and when you are sure that it is not causing any issues, proceed to the next.
And always have a backup.

Battery Solution (sticky request)

Ok, Those having the battery drain issue.
1. You have tmobile's Samsung Galaxy 5.
2. You notice a battery drain while the phone is not in use.
3. You may have installed wake lock apps, etc, and noticed the drain was caused by "Android System"
1. To apply Fix: You must have root, and Odin.
2. Flash the rom listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720382&page=3
And uninstall Google+ with root uninstaller from system after. Be sure to download ad-away using F-Droid to block ads again.
3. After finishing, be sure to visit wifi > advanced settings >and untick the optionkeep wi-fi on during sleep to Never. or (while charging).
4. You may optionally turn of motion sensors, smart stay etc.. but this isn't required.
The culprit is Carrier IQ, Knox AND Google+. On stock rom, it allowed me to uninstall SOME components of the blasted spywares, but not all, even with root uninstallers. Luckilly the flashed ROM took them off completely. You must rid of ALL 3 of these irritants to fix the problem. Apparently there have been multiple threads here of frustrated users. I am going to contact tmobile at some point, and outline the issue. I find it REALLY odd that there is spyware on the phones in the USA.
Since then, MY GOD my battery lasts, and the phone doesn't get wake locked.
After 1 hour of testing, already seeing a noticeable difference. Please try this and confirm the same so we can get this bloody aggravating battery issue solved.

Lol right.. Now that makes me wonder about carrier iq does.
Thank you, just finished following all these steps now! Just so I'm clear, if you install the custom rom, you don't need to disable all the things listed in the last paragraph, right?
So I don't have this device yet, but from the sounds of it, it looks like a real serious issue that can potentially drive novice users away and give S5 bad rep. It still baffles me that Samsung (or the carrier) can compromise the device to such extent that its barely usable.

From what I can understand, the custom ROM removes Knox and Carrier IQ, but you still have to remove Google+, and install adaway.
But my question, can't I just use titanium with root and remove those three apps without flashing a custom ROM?

Well I tried that but Knox and carrier iq can't be removed even with root and battery issues persisted. As the question involving removing Google plus yes that's required too. You have to flash then remove Google plus. After that the rest is optional.

Life of Greenify without Xposed?

Hey
Was wondering what's the chances of building Greenify to use GCM push without the need of Xposed? I've been running Greenify for a long time now, but since Samsung pushed Lollipop, Xposed module no longer works with samsung lollipop roms. At this moment, it looks like the new Art system is causing trouble and the dev of Xposed isn't promising it will ever work.
For me, I paid for Greenify, was hoping there will be a solution in the future. I do understand it might involve a whole recoding.. But looking to see what's the possibility.

First of all, you didn't exactly pay for the App per se, you DONATED to the Dev to get Extra "Experimental" features, quite different you know
Second, the Dev of Greenify can't further develop the App without Xposed being Stable for Lolipop, and Xposed is still at Alpha-Stage, not even Beta, so you either wait patiently for an update, or start to search for alternatives, or go back to KitKat and have everything working :good: :victory:

Yes that is true that donated vs paid is a different term. But you get the point.
As far as your second part, doesn't directly answer my question. Samsung TW Lollipop isn't supported by Xposed and the Dev doesn't know if it will ever work.

hey i just installed the xposed framework and greenify with donation package on my oneplus one running the cm12.1 2015.11.17 snapshot.
i just want to make sure i am using it the right way.
is it good to use it on snapchat, facebook messenger and facebook. is it good to always greenify them when locking my device. and say i get messages on facebook messenger from time to time, it wont drain my battery if it keeps waking the app? i'm just not sure if i am doing it the right way hehe. is there something else i should do with it. (i have the g gcm push feature on) apps are auto hibernated by greenify anyways so maby it is just as it should? im using servicely also.

The short descriptions on the options speak for themselves. Boost is the 'best' choice but requires Xposed framework. Otherwise go with one of the other two options depending if your device is rooted.

What about things to do AFTER root?

So, the step by step procedures for rooting and unrooting are great, but kinda leaves me hanging. I've heard it stressed that you have to tighten down on security... what about installing a custom..like cyanogen? Root is good but you can't stop there, right? What security to install? How can I avoid updates to OS beyond MM, or is it even possible? How to get max benefit from root, are there apps that most will Immediately install either because they are just that cool or because you need to to protect your phone? Thx!
Remove bloats (anything that you don't use)
Adaway (i can't STAND ads)
Xposed. I can't live without gravitybox, youtube ad blockers and YouTube offscreen playback.
Install nova launcher and double tap screen off from playstore to retain LG double tap features.
Thank you! Just the sort of advice I was hoping for. Are you knowledgeable of CyanogenMod. Like/don't like? Or, prefer an alternative? What security is best? Is there a listing somewhere to help me know what I can remove without causing my phone to start malfunctioning? I'd like to get rid of almost everything Google but then half the apps that use their keyboard, dictionary, etc stop working. I could see spending waaaay too much time searching each individual kibble before I delete. Would be decadent to find a list of em somewhere. Thanks again.

[Mod][Xposed] ARTDeoptimiser - An Android N & O Xposed Crash/Hang "fix"

ARTDeoptimiser - An Android N & O Xposed Crash/Hang "fix"
Introduction:
First things first, I'd like to point out that this app is by no means the optimal solution to the problem I am about to discuss, however it is a temporary solution to those that wish to use it.
Xposed for Android N and above has known issues whereby hooked applications can hang or crash for seemingly no reason at all and there's virtually nothing that us developers can do to resolve
the issue (From a module developers perspective). This is (to the best of my knowledge) in part due to how android performs an optimisation on applications during the installation period
(Dex2Oat) [See Further Reading below].
As an Xposed developer myself these hangs became quite a frequent occurrence and my users would often complain about it, assuming the issue was something on my part or something I could resolve.
As a result I decided to create a module that would force android to install selected applications as "Interpret Only" whereby no optimisations are performed on the app meaning Xposed can hook
into applications and not face the dreaded hangs.
Again, I can't stress enough that this is not a permanent or primary solution to the issue however Rovo himself has said that the optimal fix is not something that is easy to do, so until then I thought
I'd at least offer a "hacky workaround". I'd love to hear from @rovo89 as to whether forcing apps to install as vmSafeMode=true is in fact a "solution".
Note: This app is very much in the EARLY STAGES as I made it in about 2 days and decided I'd at least allow people to provide feedback.
Download:
Check out the Github with an included Pre-Release APK and a brief howto guide in the ReadMe.
ARTDeoptimiser Github
Xposed Repo -> Repository Link
Brief Instructions:
Install Module
Activate in Xposed
Reboot
Open app
Mark which apps you want deoptimised
Backup their data
Uninstall the apps
Reinstall the apps
Restore their data
Always apply this to the App, not the Xposed Module for it.
Further Reading
If you'd like to read up on Rovo's official explanation on the issue, use the link below.
Rovo's explanation
I made the module to try and help out other developers and make the Xposed community a little bit more stable for Android N and above. It is, and always will be, a free application.
Thanks! Giving this a try.

Although I'm not 100% certain, in theory so long as this module is active at the time of update it should allow you to just update your apps normally.
I'll have to test this to confirm it however I'm somewhat confident it will work.

I'm not sure about other impacts of vmSafeMode. You might be better of setting "pm.dexopt.bg-dexopt=quicken" (or whatever "pm.dexopt.install" is): https://source.android.com/devices/tech/dalvik/configure#runtime_configuration
Again, this is only a workaround. It means that no AOT compilation is taking place, which means that apps need to be JIT-compiled every time you start them. That surely increases CPU/RAM load, which in turn consumes more battery.
Nice job
I think it's solution create only for using if it's needed (if you got this crashes etc.). If now everything in your rom is OK, you don't need it I think (yet). Cheers.

Got a little lost at the part of backing the app up and uninstalling it, then restoring it but then I considered a case like Snapchat's login.

Hmm maybe it's just me but it looks like Messenger still optimizes sometimes (maybe after restart but I'm not sure).
And yes I followed all the steps. Xposed module is active and .orca is 'deop'.
After removing the OAT folder it works again.

Make sure you're using the v1.0.2 version as previous versions would still allow android to optimise apps in the background ?
