Rapid battery drain. - Verizon LG G3

I've tried nearly everything I can think of and nothing stops this battery from killing itself very fast. Half a day on a charge is rediculous. I don't know what else to do.

First of all what do you have turned on (Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, etc.). Second, what applications are you using to help/find battery issues (Greenify, Wake Lock Detector, Tasker, etc.). Without this information it's hard to tell you what is wrong.
Personally, I have bluetooth on all the time connected to my G Watch. Location is set to Battery Saver. I have Greenify installed and hibernating apps when the screen is turned off and using Tasker to control CPU speeds. My phone has been off the charger for about 7 hours and I am at about 88% battery left.

Grab us the dump file from Better Battery Stats and we could help you out more. I get great battery life with my G3.
I use Greenify ,Lux , BT on most the time as well as Location. Typically my brightness is around 70% -80% as well.
I don't have all sorts of useless apps and widgets though, only 1 clock widget on the lock screen . and if I don't need an app I simply uninstall it....
Anyways grab that dump file from BBS if you'd like some help.

I use GSAM battery monitor can I dump through that app? I use greenify, keep brightness low, turn off what I can and it's still awful

You could I suppose however I myself don't use that app. I don't use any of the GSam apps.
Grab BBS here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15869868
Install it and enable root features in the advanced tab and then let it run for a little while. Then on the main screen you'll see a "share" button and dump file will be already highlighted. Select that and it'll put the file on the root of your SDCard.
If you could upload that it will be more helpful. BBS is more useful in my opinion and gives better details than GSam.
Once you get used to using it.... You'll wonder why you weren't using it in the first place

Here's the file I hope it tells something

I was having the same issue. No matter what I did it just sucked and I'm no noob. I just did a flash back to stock using the 10b tot file and set everything back up and now it's great. Easily lasting twice as long. I also didn't reroot yet.

It's showing your phone was awake about 1.5 hours more than your screen on time.
msm_tsens_lock (): 4 h 20 m 38 s (15638 s)
Kept your phone awake for over 4 hours. Your other various wake locks don't look to out of control to me, you have quite a few that will add up but I don't see any rogue apps really.
msm_tsens_lock
Is to do with Thermal Sensor. My G3 has never had that kernel wake lock so I'm not 100% that's it's normal or not, could very well be?!
What I'd suggest though anyways is to clear your Caches and Dalvic ( can use an app from Store to do this easily ) then give your phone a day or two before judging battery life so the Caches can rebuild.
And reboot your phone once a day. Also what I've been doing lately is I have my phone set up so that when I " knock off" it uses Greenify to force Hibernation of my apps then locks the phone.
That can be done through any launcher that supports gestures , I use Nova.
If nothing seems to work, factory reset should do it, though i know that's annoying.
I'll keep looking at your dump file just to see if i missed anything, I've been looking through a few of them and my eyes hurt[emoji12]

A possible (!) reason of high Android OS/battery draining(Need feedback!)

Hello,
I just installed Android Booster FREE. It's an app that allows you to see what apps are draining the most.
And I maybe found a reason of high OS usage.
On my phone the top 1 draining app is MTP Application(with 36%). Since it's an Android app(package name: "com.android.MtpApplication), it'll be counted in Android OS and is indeed listed.
Could anyone please try and verify this on their own phones? To see app specific usage, install with link above, open it ->Utilities -> Power Manager -> Applications.
Sorry if this isn't the reason or if it's only on my phone. But I don't think so. And it would be a good reason since MTP application is Samsung-specific. My firmware: XKE2.
Please let me know! Thanks!
And please don't vote if you have frozen your apps !

that's strange, but that's also counted as a part of "Android OS" I think, so it could be that (even though I don't have that!).

Hmm if it's that I would look a bit dumb with creating a thread for that ^^'. I installed it on advice from someone on this forum in Themes/apps section(here), and I though it wasn't bad because the rest of the apps seems to be correct with me /:.
Here is my usage. Its Android OS again... but look at the time since unplugged and the total power left (60%)!! I have used it quite a bit as well. Ive never had a smart phone that lasts so long.

Well this app is not good working: it just picks up the first in the list of "Android OS" as I have experienced.
Mine says BluetoothTest!
The MTP makes a certain sense though. If you look in various events in the Autostarts app, it appears a lot.

Battery not lasting more than 2 hours

Hey guys, im kinda new to android but im not new to computers... so please dont say stuff like turn off wifi or turn off bluetooth and gps
I have disabled S Voice, S planner, And most of the crappy samsung stuff. I have only 2 email accounts connected to my gmail app and yes my auto sync is on. My phone is not rooted and i do not intend to do so ever. I just want to use the stock rom and launcher..
So the problem im facing is horrible battery life. I generally fully charge my phone till 10pm and dont use it overnight... then in the morning i just listen to some music on the way to school for about 1 hour and 30 minutes (yes i know my school is very far away from my house). then my phone is on standby for like 6-8 hours. and then at about 3pm i use it again for music and facebook n stuff... by 4:30pm i only have 20-30% battery left with only 1 hour and 50 minutes of screen on time..
please help me to increase the battery life because im pretty sure that its supposed to last much longer.
PS nfc, voice command, google now, wifi, gps, bluetooth etc is off.
1. Using auto sync kills the battery. It is constantly checking for emails, syncing with Google, Facebook etc etc... this might be one of the reasons.
2. I suggest you put the screen brightness on auto. one of the biggest battery consumption of now a days smartphones are the big screens.
3. Try to upgrade your phone to a newer version, that might help either. some people report that after upgrading to a newer version, the battery life improved for them.
4. Turn of Mobile Data. This is a HUGE battery drainer!
That is what I can think of.
I hope I managed to help you

Well dud i would take it to a service centre .
As you don't want to root then the only XDA device is to factory reset .
You can of course try a Samsung forum for more advice that does not involve root .

Facebook/Whatsapp/Viber/Tango, all these programs consume alot of battery as they need to wake the phone and check for notifications (messages etc... ). I'm not saying don't install them, I'm saying you shouldn't have the Mobile Data turned on all the time. I'm assuming you don't send a message every second, right? Or check the email every second? (and I also assume that you are not a business man since you go to school...) The world won't collapse if you don't check your email/Facebook/Whatsapp every 5 seconds. That is my advice to you, you can choose to accept it or reject it, its your choice.

I dont get notificaions every second and even every hour for that matter but i need mobile data on for whatsapp atleast and i have already turned off facebook sync i.e. it only looks for notifications. i dont have viber or tango installed.
and do u really think mobile data is using up all my battery coz i saw this website that said the s3 can give up to 6 hours of web surfing.

If you drop down the notification window, u should find there a Sync option. disable it. That should do it for the Sync issue.
You can't understand how much battery turning off Mobile Data saves...
Trust me, people won't go nuts if you don't answer them just as you receive the message
So you can chat with your friends, but don't forget to turn off Mobile Data, so it won't consume a lot of battery
AW: Battery not lasting more than 2 hours
I have had the same problem so I flashed the Siyah kernel and even overclocked it to 1,7 ghz. Awkwardly my battery lasts much much longer now. About 2 days of average usage.

so do u prefer i turn on wifi instead? does that use less battery than 3G?
and i know how to disable sync!
Looking at your screen shots there appears nothing wrong with your phone, it's doing exactly what Samsung intended it to do as a 'connected hub for your online life' - but it will eat your battery as the phone is working and communicating all the time while you're not using it.
Either live with a charger close at hand or disable the 30 or so rubbish apps and services they included to burn through your battery. Who cares about OTA updates, delete your Samsung account, check your facebook using the browser instead of an app etc.
I get 2 days use from one charge with at least 6 to 8 hours screen on time included, but my phone is only awake when I turn the screen on, doing what I want it to do - not amusing it's self when turned off. That requires a custom ROM or rooting at least to kill the persistant stock apps.
Using wifi instead of 3G will reduce power consumption quite a bit, especially if your 3G signal is weak.

Even if you don't use the Samsung apps & services they are still running in the background, you are certainly using the Facebook app as it ate a large amount of your battery. Disable the facebook app and instead use the browser to check it just when you need to, this is just an example btw - it won't solve your overall problem.
I use Vikingway ROM, which is a very stripped down version of stock so everything still works. It should double your battery life, but your online social life will suffer.

Install AppQuarantine
Disable Maps and Facebook. Them to alone cause most battery station with absolutely no use. You mentioned you use Facebook often.. Use a widget to quick enable+open/disable Facebook for example.
Facebook uses 5% battery just like that. Maps up to 15%
Whenever you reboot your device look at running apps. Almost everything should be killed except Google services.
Manage what syncs. Limit Google syncing to gmail only.
And then some
Root:
Root your S3. Use SetCPU profiles when screen is off 200-300 ondemand governor. Under volt if necessary for that extra up to 5%.
International S III 16GB / Dualboot 4.1.2 Stock & Cyanogenmod 10.1 / Gokhan's SK
I seem to get varying degrees of battery life. Was getting great battery life with Perseus kernel, then all of a sudden after restoring from a nandroid backup it went terrible.
Mayeb going to switch back to siyah kernel and follow some of the battery life threads

Use Greenify. (find it on the market)
It will kill all processes of apps not active. However, remember it does not distinguish that you have switched to another app, and want a particular one in memory to remain. So choose the apps you want to "hibernate" before hand carefully.
I have been using this app for a very long time, now, and find the battery life and heating issues are a thing of the past. Active apps will continue to drain battery and heat up processors, but not much you can do about that is there?
cheers

Hi another thing you can try is to tweak down the max cpu speeds using any tuner. I myself use the Kerneltuner which is very efficient for the CM11 roms.
The effect is immediate and the battery life is also increased. You can also chage the control to power saving / on demand to solve this issue without changing the cpu speeds.
hope this also helps.
cheers

Thanks. I just need some app that will turn off the phone when it gets to the boiling point, lol. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure about cm, but stock roms turn off when it gets unsafe (around 90 C I think). Mine used to shut off with extended miracast use, so now I keep it on ice cubes. I use tasker to display cpu temp on the screen when I'm doing high heat producing activities like watchespn and maps. That at least lets me see when things are getting dangerous.

Draining battery isue problem ?!

I'm not sure about the phone app, but you should try disabling some Google services with disable service or use Greenify donation edition to hibernate play services.

there is no problem with google play services, the phone app stays awake all time, even i dont use it,, the device dont get to deep sleep because of that ?
Any help ?
The mobile data and screen brightness are the biggest drainer of battery life by a mile.
I would only turn the brightness up on my phone when i use it then turn it down later.
You can restrict background data, this one is the holy grail in battery conservation. Unless you specify otherwise a lot of the apps that you have on your phone like Facebook Twitter and many many more will constantly try to connect to their servers to look if there is anything new to report. To do this hit you settings, Connections, Data usage, menu, then put a tick in Restrict background data to force your phone to stop syncing continuously.
:good:

Screenshots are useless and not helpful, make your way over to the betterbatterystats thread and follow the op.

Using that app and finding the cause is a much better option than just returning to stock because it works.

I suggest you to install one or both of below free apps to monitor what is draining the battery:
- Battery Doctor(Battery Saver)
- GSam Battery Monitor
With the first one you can also set the option 'CPU Management=YES' so the phone can deep sleep
One the app is identify you can hibernate it to avoid running in background with the app 'Greenify'
Thanks.

So, it is better to test another ROM.
What about Slimrom? have you tested it?

Strange, maybe and issue with that specific S3 model.
I have tested CM, Slimkat, C-ROM, Carbon, Omegarom on S3 GT-I9300 and I havenĀ“t had that issue,
battery life is better than the stock rom.
Maybe you can try to run a cleaning kernel script before flashing if not done yet.
Use the betterbatterystats app i mentioned before to find out whats causing the phone app to stay awake.
Its all good to say the phone app is keeping it awake but you need to find the trigger or service that is doing so. The screen shots you are providing are basic and do not provide this, you need a log from this app.

Battery draining very fast when idle

Hi there. I have a Galaxy S 2 i9100 and its battery drains very fast even when on screen off and - theoretically - idle. I have taken the attached screenshots on GSAM Battery Stats to help me out finding out why it drains so fast, but honestly, I can't quite understand how the kernel or system OS drains it so much when not on. The graph shot also shows the phone considers itself "active" even when screen is off and I'm not using it. How can I know what uses the phone so much, and how to avoid it from doing so?
Thanks in advance!!!

Here is an article on wakelocks from XDA. You might find it interesting.
As to the wakelocks that are keeping your device awake, I'm not familiar with the app you are using. I use Better Battery Stats. You can find a free version here on XDA if you want to check it out. You need to check "kernel wakelocks" and "partial wakelocks" to find the problem app(s).

Hi noppy, thanks for your reply.
I installed the app you mentioned, but I am not sure if I have to wait more time or if the app works in a different way of the other battery stats apps I have used so far.
When I open it, it shows an yellow line saying "no stats have been collected yet".
If I open the graph option, I can see wakelocks are incredibly constant (I have attached the screenshots). I don't know how to work on that...
@ghnogueira
Have you got root access? Did you install BBS as a system app when you first opened the app, then reboot? This is the normal setup for me. Once you have rebooted the device, BBS will start collecting data and then reset every time you interupt the discharge cycle(eg. by plugging in to recharge or to a pc).
But you will need root access for the app to find the issues.

Yes I have root access, and it is allowed for BBS. Have you checked the screenshots? Does your phone show a different kind of screen or data?

Yes, this is what I get when I open it. From this screenshot I press the tab that says "other" and change it to "kernel wakelocks" and "partial wakelocks".
Did the app ask you to install as a system app when you installed it?

Not really. It installed normally as any other apk, and then I enabled it to have root access. I do not have the "Other" option on my phone...

OK, I'm using v2.1.0, which explains the slightly different look. I noticed in the changelogs, they changed "other" to "summary", and also doesn't require installing as a system app. But that doesn't explain why it's not working for you. You could try uninstalling that one and installing the older version and see if that works.......or you could search on that thread for any clue or post if there is no mention of the same problem......

Sadly I have done both but none worked. Older version behaves the same, and I couldn't find any resemblances there to my problem...

OK, you could try wakelock detector app, or any other that gives detailed info on your wakelocks. You need to know which apps are keeping your device awake so you can fix it. The other option is to wipe your phone and install a new rom....

I used to have that app installed, and it is the "kernel" or "android system" that keeps it awake. But my real doubt is what can I do to stop that from happening? What is within my hands?
