New z Ultra, questions about rooting - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi all, I drunkly ran into the sea with my Nexus 5 in my pocket so that is long gone.
Next week I'm thinking about investing in an xperia z ultra, however I have seen and heard of many of the methods used to root it will capture your IMEI number and use it for malicious reasons.
I was looking at following this guide (presuming my phone software/firmware will even be compatible) and just want to clarify it works fine with no danger.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904
This is the link to the phone I'm looking at buying
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-Xper...68398?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item35cff8fe2e
If I cannot root the phone, I will not be buying it as adblock is a must for me, and if xposed works then I'll be delighted also.
Can someone please help clear up my confusion?
Thanks!

That would work, or there is a dual recovery installer(CWM and TWRP)that you could use if you want recovery. Whichever you use let the phone update to .108 firmware then run it, if you unlock your bootloader be sure to back up your TA partition beforehand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...de-root-android-4-4-4-ver-14-4-0-108-t2801587

As the ever helpful @adfurgerson said. EasyRoot is the best tool or [NUT]'s recovery installer. They both use the same exploit.
Any other questions just ask, after searching

Thanks guys :fingers-crossed:

For me the easiest one I use is the Dual Recovery installation files. It has an option to root and install dual recovery all in one.

I used Flashtool for rooting, few clicks and done.
Then i flashed dualrecovery and GPe ROM :good:

root?

Hello could someone please point me in the right direction to root this thing. I've notice there are different methods and a lot of brick talk on here so I'm a little reluctant to use one.I'm not new to the root I have rooted my evo,intercept,g2, galaxy tab. But all those seemed pretty safe I have t 201 and I updated to ics. One more thing I don't care much about the roms just want to run rooted programs so is it even worth it with such a new device?
I rooted mine with sparkys root but first use the unlock tool <unzip your unlock tool prior>...sparkys app is easy either download it with your computer then place in the file of your liking to open and install the app... or i think you can just download it from his page in developement with your prime. And has uproot available which I have done and then rerooted just for fun... enjoy your rooted Prime..

Hi,
Look HERE

[Q] Can you help this newbie in Android world? simply questions.

Hello my friends. I had an iPhone 4 and I just bought my Xperia Z2 5 days ago.
During these 5 days I am here in this amazing forum reading a lot about Android development. So lets go to my questions.
So. If i wanna have all access into my phone...
1. I must root it...
2. then make a TA partition backup to save DRM keys and not lose warranty...
3. If i want to change ROM and Kernel i can unlock bootloader after these steps.
is it correct?
And if one day I am tired of all this and i want to Clean restore my phone.
It means i want Stock rom, Stock kernel, non-rooted and locked bootloader, is it possible? if so, in what thread it explain what to do?
My Xperia Z2 is from Brazil model is D6543 and firmware is 17.1.A.2.55
thank you very much, I will probably root my phone soon after answers here. :good:

Yes all this is correct.
I believe your model number is D6503?
Some ROMs can be flashed on a locked bootloader as well.
Use this for rooting on locked bootloader:

Use this to get recovery on locked bootloader after rooting:

I can't find the tool for TA Backup yet so I recommend you check the Cross-Device development sub forum.

Ah I see that the only difference is a few LTE bands. Nothing else. I would recommend you ask in a ROM thread if the model number is supported or not before flashing a ROM

New to android

I have a Lenovo vibe x2, i used to have windows-phones but since my last one got stolen i thought i would try androids out. Lenovo has now updated vibe X2 to the lollipop upgrade and i can't find a video or anything that will help me root my device.
Plus i have some questions about rooting an android :
1st. does it worth to do so ?
2nd. What will i get from rooting my phone
3rd. Is it dangerous cause my phone might bug and what will i need to do if that happens ?
I would really appreciate someone answering those questions and helping me with the root.
(a trustful guide and trustful files will do just great, i am computer experienced enough to make it through it's just some fears i need to "extinguish" )

I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUGYK0tarBE
Although the title says Android 5.0 Lollipop but we can clearly see throughout the video that the guy is running android 4.4.2. Anyway, I've never heard of/tried kingroot so I can't be sure if its legit or not but you can give it a try.
And as for your questions:
1. Root is NOT a necessity. You can use google search to know about it and decide yourself.
2. Again you can find this by a google search.
3. There is always a risk when you mod your phone. Incase you somehow manage to brick it by that simple tutorial, I guess your device would have some stock firmware online which you can download and reflash by some kind of flashtool to restore to stock.
Cheers,
AJ

Xperia Tablet Z SGP321 Root

Hello,
I've been using these forums for years to root all my devices so thanks to all for the hard work.
I just want to know how I can root my Xperia Tablet Z SGP321. It's currently on Lollipop 5.0.2 (10.6.a.0.454).
I've looked everywhere and I can't find anything to simply root it, all I can find is for previous firmware and for other models.
Can someone please send me a link? My bootloader is is currently locked but an unlock is allowed so I can do that if required (did it with my Z2 and my Z3 so I know how).
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

Strange that you found nothing.
This firmware can be rooted with rootkitXperia | KingRoot or Vroot apps. I recommend the first one, as two other are chinese.

Thank you so much, I'll give this a go tomorrow.
I've never rooted a tablet before, only phones so I just wanted to make 100% sure about the build and stuff.
Just one more thing, the page says it's for 5.0, will it be ok on 5.0.2 or does the 0.2 not matter?
Edit: Ok, so I ran the rootkit and everything succeeded but now it still says there is no root access when I use Root Check and I can't run SuperSU as there is apparently no binary installed for it.
Any idea what the problem might be?
Edit 2: Ok nevermind, I finally managed to get it sorted. I followed the guide located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...ide-how-to-root-xperia-tablet-z-lp-5-t3253178 and all is well.
Thanks for the help

Newb trying to root Verizon Tablet Z2 (SGP561) from 5.0.2.

Okay, I admit, this website indimidates the hell out of me. I'm tech savy and not afraid to mess with things, but the level of new terminology here is staggering.
Anyway, now that you know I'm a wimp: I have a SGP561 Xperia Tablet Z2 from Verizon with Lollipo 5.0.2. I want to root it in order to install custom fonts on Photoshop Touch as I'm living abroad and using my tablet as my main computer while the beast lives back home.
I tried to use the Easy Root Tool but it failed. I assume this is because my firmware is too new and not exploitable as of yet, which means I have to downgrade I believe. I have found some files for flashing (?) but they aren't for the SGP561 specifically - does that matter? All I found were these for Xperia Z2 (not the tablet Z2?)
So, in the easiest language possible, can someone please give a step by step on how to downgrade my SGP561 to a rootable firmware and then flash (?) back to the latest firmware and keep root?
Please, please, please, and thank you.
Bump?
This site is frustrating as hell. Mods are quick to lock noob threads without offering help, and you're not allowed to ask questions in the areas where anyone who knows the friggin answer would ever be anyway! I have a rooted z3V running lollipop, etc, so I'm sort of familiar with the process. But developments had been made where rooting became easier.
I've been wading through endless threads filed with outdated crap trying to figure out how the hell to root my z2 tablet for 3 weeks. None of the way this stuff has been written makes ANY sense.
I'm on 5.02, and want root and dual recovery. Should be simple, right?
I don't even know where to ask the damned question anymore. I've downloaded virus filed $#!+ on my computer, thoroughly screwing it up, TWICE now, only to find I probably didn't even need that file. -Or do I? Download links are so old they don't go anywhere. Can't tell what's what here.
Even this thread ; a WEEK OLD, and no help.

You said it dude. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. I'm pretty deflated right now and demoralized.
If I ever figure it out, I'll hunt you down and let you know. If you do, please do the same.
Regards.
Seems that you guys are looking for a quick and easy fix, but i dont think that there is one. The method that I used is found in this thread.

I followed those steps in that link. It didn't work for me.
I could not downgrade to 17.1.D.0.437. The device was either in reboot cycle or in the status of in-completed flashed after I flashed the firmware ftf file provided in that post. I had to flash the latest firmware to restore the tablet. I was glad I didn't bricked my tablet.
