Odd accessory question - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Accessories

Does anyone out there know of a USB 3.0 micro-B to to micro-B cable available? I'm considering getting a pocket hard drive, and would rather use a single cable instead of a USB OTG adapter to standard USB cable if I can help it.
I did some searching on Google and Amazon but had no real success...
Thanks in advance, and my best,

It's not what you are asking for but one of these perhaps ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/1508...1=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0

Not my first choice, but it looks like what I'm looking for just isn't out there. Wonder if I could craft one myself, or would it be too much effort...
Oh well - thanks for the link.

they only accept payment via bank xfer, but it's better than nothing. anyone else know any other sellers?
Does anyone have the pinout of the non-standard Startrk USB connector?
any other place to get one besides that german site? somewhere we can purchase online please. thanks
The adaptor looks like just what I need. I almost ordered a couple from the liked site, but it all became too hard. My German is just not that good. I have searched all the usual places but cannot find this adaptor anywhere else. Please, if anyone else knows where ti can be sourced (preferebly with payment via credit card) let us all know.

i've tried to search all over internet and found nothing. the only ones available are the HTC made Y cable adaptor which is pretty much overpriced and useless because i want a mini usb+3.5mm jack. even just a mini usb adaptor will do (original HTC made mini usb adaptor available, then again, overpriced). where can i find something like that? any idea guys?
yep, i've searched pretty much the whole internet

! and there's nothing. grr. if it wasn't such a ballache i'd get a spare standard cable and cut it up to solder on a mini usb socket. pinouts can't be that hard - although i'm not sure where i'd get an inline mini usb socket from.
I've bought this one for 3.5 mm jack...works great:

I've paid with credit card (click on paypal....don't need a paypal account), received it within a week (all the way to Europe....;-).
headphone only though
...no mini USB charge point. thanks though.

just open up the sony ericsson mic unit and there is all the wiring label print on the small little circuit board. just follow the tutorial for the wiring code and solder into it.
work great but no volume control , have to control from the phone

Maybe a little bit complicated...but let me suggest...
Take a Female mini usb from an old device (for example). Connect/sold/attach it to a Female standard usb (not all wires needed). Use startreck usb cable to charge
so close its exact
micro usb is the 3125 adapter type
Is this the same connector?

buy it and try it

The port on the 3125 is micro usb, the port on say a 8525 or 8125 is Mini usb
I am not saying the adapter will work, only that it is a micro to mini adapter and it should work.

where to buy USB cable?

hi does anyone know where to buy a USB cable (like the one that connects to the plug for charging)?
Is there an official one? does that even make any difference?
have tried looking on dealextreme but couldnt see anything
Why not use a standard miniUSB cable, it fits perfecty, although the interface looks kinda different.

Like leper04 said, any standard mini-USB cable will work to charge it via computer USB. Or are you referring to a wall-style charger?
didnt realise any mini usb will fit. the only other one ive got is for the ps3 pad charger that dont fit. isnt the port on the touch a different shape to stop you using a generic mini usb cable?
no even if it's a extUSB then normal miniUSB cables are compatible and works just
fine
mainly because the extusb part of miniUSB can only be used by headset
chargers and sych cables only use the miniUSB part
just tried the mini usb cable from my ps3 and it fits perfect. Excellent! Dont know why i didnt just try it myself before. Thanks for the help guys.

Note that many retractable mini-USB cables can charge, but cannot sync the Touch HD. I have a bunch, all of which do not work. Darn. Of course there are some that can sync, but these are in the minority it seems.

DIY TF101 USB Host Adapter Thread

Not one to relax and enjoy the spoils of war after conquering the Wall/Car charger mystery I have decided to move on to the subject of USB host without the dock. Sorry if I am duplicating other similar threads but starting a new thread helps me through the process of testing. I'm hoping the asus USB host adapter will be out soon so I can gut it like tuna but till then it is back to the rig I used for the charger probing.
Update 10/16/2011
So what we actually now know.
1. USB host mode requires a board found in the USB Host adapter from Asus
2. Some users are having issues with the adapter staying connected. Bad design IMO, too big of a device to be hanging off the tablet connected to thumb drives and other devices.
3. 5V is being supplied to usb devices, I have not personally verified this but will soon.
Some options
1. Build USB Host "Dongle" with connector and USB adapter.
Sounds like people are having disconnection issues, a dongle might be a better solution for that taking the pressure off the connector on the TF and move it down a wire to dongle connector. This will be my first build since it shouldn't be to difficult.
2. Machine a small attachable dock that sits at the bottom of the TF which contains the host adapter, memory cart reader slots and USB ports.
I love this idea but will take time and money I don't have at the moment. BUT drawings are already done and I'm having my machinist put it on his to do list at the bottom. Prototype in 45 days but no promises.
3. Modding a TF to contain the host adapter internally.
This requires you to open up your TF and install the board and a connector. A daunting task for anyone with even good circuit board and fabrication skills. Best person for this job is Bob, but is there space in the case?

First Mod, Host Adapter dongle.
While building this on I'll looking in to the capability of charging the TF while using the host adapter.
USB adapter shows up tomorrow and I hit the ground running. Pics and updates to come. Stay tuned!
Hey,
Any updates on this? I would love to see a solution to connect USB devices without needing a dock.
Waiting for the official adaptor might take a while: Asus Australia confirmed that the adaptor is not coming any time soon (and maybe never to AUS at all), Asus Germany can't give a specific date.

So what do we know
1. Connecting a USB 2.0 female to female coupler using the factor sync/charge cable from the Table to other USB devices does not work.
2. Asus will be releasing an adapter that allows for USB host features and this tells us it can be done.
3. Asus used some of the usb 3.0 pins to show termination from the tablet to start charging at 15V so this method might be in practice for the usb host function.
I've done a little monitoring of data pins on the factory cable but see no difference between when a device is and is not connected. I have a feeling we are dealing with 2 things, 5v power from the tablet to power the usb device and a pin termination to trigger the host function.

Following the OP's logic..
I do not believe that a Female to Female USB3 would be enough. I suspect and trying to locate one is a pain that you will need not only a USB3 AF to AF but also a USB3 Powered Hub (or USB 3 Powered Device) as the TF cable does not supply power..
I tried the USB 2 AF to AF path with my powered hub and can confirm it does not work, TF will mount fine on PC via the HUB so it is not a connection problem so I suspect like the OP that we need all the magic pins of a USB3 connection which logically would also mean we all the magic of a USB3 hub (or device) as well..
I cannot find a USB3 AF to Micro AF cable anyplace (They are all male) so even if I can get my hands on a USB3 powered hub (which are also rare) I could not complete this experiment..
I suspect the lack of the OP's postings would also indicate they are having the same trouble as well..
So in summary, I strongly believe we need USB3 Powered Hub + USB 3 Cable from the Hub to the TF Cable
Anyone got those?
Well I done some searching and found these two that should provide all the right specifications for the TF but I am starting to have some significant doubts that this is all worth it considering this is only a theoretical solution based on USB3 pins logic vs just pay the $149 price tag and get the keyboard dock that we know will work..

I just want to know when that damn Asus USB dongle is releasing. I don't need the keyboard dock. Already have a 13.3 laptop.
the same site has also in stock the sd adapter (nice for my photo machine, avail at 19€ as well), and the minidock (2 usb + stand) at 29€.
The sleeve is avail at 34.90€, the vga cable at 29€, and a travel kit at 39€.
Everithing is said being available in 2-4 days...
Last week was baja 500 prep for my but i'm back and moving forward with testing.
Don't waste your time with the female 3.0 adapter. The tablet is using one of the 40 pins on the proprietary adapter to look for termination from the keyboard dock to activate the USB host function. This is my theory but I still will test all 9 of the 3.0 pins.
The only way I will be able to test all 40 pins on the tablet connector is to either find a bare connector or wait for the asus usb adapter and open it. I'll start lookng for a bare connector next Week

The adapter has shown up in a German online shop (cyberport.de, search for "usb extension kit" or "sd extension kit") and is listed as in Stock. I wrote them an email to get confirmation that they really have it in Stock and shippable. Maybe somebody in Germany can make a teardown and show us the internals!

If you google "1D09-36X" it comes up with other EU sites that carry it. Hopefully it won't be long till we get it in the US.
Does anyone happen to know the type/model/name of the connector is.
Maybe we can find something that is the same pin config and cut it open and splice in a usb 3.0 female cable.
I've spliced many a cable together for similar purposes, just need the connector end.
We as reseller have direct contact with asus. I called today Asus Netherlands about the usb host adapter.
Atm this moment there only 2 accessoires on the market, which are as follow:
- Asus Sleeve
- Asus Dock
The Sales Manager at Asus Netherlands told me that several other people asked for the USB Host adapter also. They said it wont be on the market until 3th quarter of the year (Aug/Sept/Oct).
Asus Taiwain puts these items on the market. Asus Taiwan understands that there is some demand for this USB Adapter.
So, we have to wait until 3th qaurter 2011 or try to fabricate something ourselfs or wait for some crazy chinese which puts something similiar on the market.

NO.
Atrix has two different output ports. Micro USB for charging and data transfer, and micro-HDMI for TV-out. The laptop dock specific (I stress specific) for the Atrix uses BOTH of these ports in conjuction.
Galaxy S2 has ONE output port, a micro USB port that doubles for charging/data transfer, and connection to the optional MHL adapter accessory.
In NO WAY would you be able to MacGyver the Galaxy S2 to use the Atrix laptop dock.

You know... it just might work. The atrix lapdock does feed 5v power up the usb port which you could adapt from micro usb to whichever varient you need on your MHL cable. This would provide the power necessary to drive the hdmi circuitry that you had feeding into the micro hdmi input of the lapdock. Obviously you wouldnt have a true 'dock' but it sounds like you understand that. As long as your phone detected the mouse and keyboard as input devices it should work. Not sure how that operates with an MHL cable. It might require USB OTG, and im not sure if that is available over the USB connectivity provided by MHL. You could try with a standard usb keyboard If that works, then the lapdocks should too.
I know for certain that you can use the lapdock as the screen by just connecting the video out of the MHL adapter to the lapdock, and a usb power only cable (for the MHL adapter) to the lapdocks normal USB charge ports.
There is a thread called Lapdock HDMI that has more details!

That thread is from the Atrix forum. What bearing does that have on the argument on getting this working on an S2??
Have you even looked at the connections involved here?
The Atrix's micro USB and micro HDMI port are side by side, and the dock plugs into both of them.
The MHL cable plugs into the ONLY port on the S2.
So I'm certainly not an expert on the inner workings of MHL, USB, and HDMI, but from what I can gather, you would have to splice an MHL cable to separate out the USB leads from the HDMI leads, then try to run the HDMI leads into a micro HDMI female port, and run the USB leads to a female micro USB port. I don't even know if that would work with MHL in the equation. I'm fairly certain the phone detects what is plugged in and decides how to use the port, which shoots this down idea down altogether... unless more hacking is involved into the OS. Which is way above my head, and I'm not fool enough to try.
See this thread, which is admittedly for the Galaxy Nexus, but is WAY more relevant than the Atrix thread you linked, as the GNex is also manufactured by Samsung, and also uses MHL technology.

No - the micro USB port on the side of the MHL adapter is for power. If the HDMI port you plug into is NOT MHL compliant (and not many are, yet), you need to plug an AC adapter in to power the phone while HDMI is in use.

Sure, there are a lot of MHL cables, but they are all essentially third party versions of the OEM Samsung MHL cable. (or whatever phone manufacturer you have that uses MHL - HTC, whatever)
I have high doubts ANY MHL cable will support it, since as I said, the phone will detect what type of connection is attached to decide how to send/receive signals from the port - if it sees the MHL adapter, it will do charge/HDMI; if it sees a regular USB cable, it will do charge/data transfer/OTG; if it sees an AC adapter, it does strictly charging. Notice how it can tell the difference when you have it plugged into your computer as opposed to when you have it plugged into the wall?
But if you want to go for it, good luck.
EDIT: yet another piece of info shooting this idea down.
Here's the video that he talks about in that post. Info specific on why this DOESN'T work is at about 7:25.

i pretty much thought the usb and hdmi wouldnt work from the beginning, il have to look into modding the dock to allow bluetooth. ive have just looked at the specifications of a mhl even though they can in theory support usb and hdmi at the same time. the sg2 wont. and i cant see any software mod that would allow this. il see what sort of bluetooth mods are available. maybe incorporate stuff i have done in the past. but the dock is too good to pass by.
i think we can close this thread as its been answered.

Not to nitpick, but it's MHL 1.0 that won't support it. The GS2 just uses MHL. Who knows if there's a possibility to update it to whatever MHL 2.0 is, whenever it comes out.

That thread is from the Atrix forum. What bearing does that have on the argument on getting this working on an S2??

Noone is 'arguing', instead I am trying to be productive and help. Forgive me opening the door to actually trying it and thinking it through instead of just saying 'THERE IS NO WAY ITS POSSIBLE, OMG ATRIX FORUM'. you do know where you are.. right?

Have you even looked at the connections involved here? The Atrix's micro USB and micro HDMI port are side by side, and the dock plugs into both of them. The MHL cable plugs into the ONLY port on the S2.

yes, of course. you couldn't tell by my reply?

So I'm certainly not an expert on the inner workings of MHL, USB, and HDMI, but from what I can gather, you would have to splice an MHL cable to separate out the USB leads from the HDMI leads, then try to run the HDMI leads into a micro HDMI female port, and run the USB leads to a female micro USB port. I don't even know if that would work with MHL in the equation.

Right, which is why i even posted in the first place. First you claimed to know, now you dont know, not very helpful. and yes, i think its understood there would be cables and a potential need for splicing, as outlined in the other lapdock thread.

See this thread, which is admittedly for the Galaxy Nexus, but is WAY more relevant than the Atrix thread you linked, as the GNex is also manufactured by Samsung, and also uses MHL technology.

actually the other thread is perfectly relevant, if you read it, you would understand the point of the thread is a howto on interfacing the lapdock with devices OTHER than the atrix, how could it be more relevant?

Yes, I do. In the I9100 forums. Which is based on completely different hardware and architecture than the Motorola Atrix.

Clearly not, since you apparently understand less about how MHL works than I do.

Actually, I said I'm not an expert. Not that I didn't know. That's two different things. I notice you also conveniently left off the part of my quote after the part that said "I don't even know if that would work with MHL in the equation" which read:

I'm fairly certain the phone detects what is plugged in and decides how to use the port, which shoots this down idea down altogether... unless more hacking is involved into the OS. Which is way above my head, and I'm not fool enough to try.

Sure, relevant. But not, at the same time. Look at post 10 of that thread. It says "The lapdock keyboard and touchpad work just like a normal USB keyboard and mouse."
Now, clearly I read the thread you linked. Did YOU read anything I linked, or watch the video featuring a spokesman from the frigging MHL consortium??? How he said HDMI out and USB will NOT work at the same time on any phone that utilizes MHL, not just the Galaxy S2? And goes on to explain why?

good luck m8 id love to see if you can pull this off!
you can always solder in a usb-Bluetooth tx so that the keypad and keyboard will work via bluetooth and hdmi via MHL. thats the only way

sounds like it's a possible solution, i'm trying to find a way to use the lapdock with my galaxy s3. any idea where we can get a usb-bluetooth tx? pair this setup with allshare dongle for wireless transmission to hdmi, we'll hv a total wireless solution to connect any phone to the lapdock?!

USB to USB c adapter

I wanted to use my USB drives. Got an USB to USB c adapter from Amazon but it wouldn't read it. It wouldn't change the option from charging to transfer files.
Anybody with any ideas as to what to do or USB to USB C adapters that have worked for them?
Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.
I bought a Rampow adapter from Amazon. No issues whatsoever, managed to update my phone to EMUI 9.1 very easily. Amazon.com link https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-RAMPOW-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B0771GBS5V/
Also used an old ass "integral" 16GB USB drive.
