[Q] Touchless control or DT2W? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello! My name is Alejandro. I had a Moto X but you can't have nice things here in México and some nights ago i got robbed and bought a second-hand xperia P but i really miss OK google and active display.
Now i know OK google can be used with open mic and apps like that but this phone's battery life is awful and i can't even imagine how worse it would get with an always listening mic. And Active Display won't install in a non-moto device (even some moto G users can't get it to work) but i think i've seen double tap 2 wake in some kernels but they also drain the battery pretty quickly.
So here's the question (and i really don't know anything about programming besides HTML and a little java so forgive me if i'm asking something stupid): is it possible for developers to add Double tap 2 wake and OpenMic or some feature like that but somehow only trigger these functions when the phone's charging? Like:
Phone Charging (is it possible to make this also for deepsleep but ONLY when the charger's plugged?):
-Always listening microphone
-Double tap 2 wake
Phone running on battery:
-Normal stuff that a kernel should do while on battery lol (maybe a little underclock for those of us who don't really use much the phone for games)
I know this is my first post and i'm sorry if i'm being annoying but tell me, is this possible? how viable is it?
Thank you all for reading, good luck if you try to do it :good:

Double tap 2 wake is a kernel thing. The other things you want can be done through tasker app

Xperia Mini Vibration Quality

I used to use s.e. W810, recently switched to xperia mini. Everything is pretty nice but the vibration level. It's barely sensible. When I have my phone in my jean pocket switched to silent mode, I feel nothing and when I check it to see whether there is any notification, usually I got ,say, 3 messages and 2 missing call
So, it's obvious that I don't feel the vibration. Searched a little about it, but neither could find anyone suffers from that problem like I do nor a solution to increase vibration level. However thought that maybe by reaching the phone's system files that can be feasible. So, is it possible to do that, if so, how ?
Thanks in advance.
I've not had a problem with it, but there are also apps to allow you to make your own vibration patterns. So maybe something with a bit more stop/start would help?

Thanks for your suggestion but the problem is not the pattern but the level of the vibration definitely. I compared it with other phones and it's really not that high like old phones.
Go sms pro can help you define how many miliseconds the vibration for a notification for a new text should last. haven't used any app which can do the same for incoming calls, but it should exist somewhere in the market!
Actually what I'm looking for is to be able to increase the power of the motor inside the phone which creates those vibrations. This is adjustable for sure, cause for instance as typing it vibrates very slowly. So, by playing with codes they can be achieved, at least as theoretically

Problem in double tap turn-on

Hello guys, I have a little problem with my Xperia Z2. When I do double tab on screen sometimes my Xperia Z2 don't turn-on.
Alsome know as fix this?
I am with Rom eXistenz, but when I was with Rom stock, also had this problem.
I'm sorry, I'm Brazilian and my English don't is good.
Thanks
This is a issue you have to tap on the same area where u did the first tap and it will unlock
I don't really use this feature anymore as for me, it only worked "properly" on 4.4 and since then I find it very unreliable to the point where there's no benefit of using it as taping 3-6 times on screen just to get it right isn't very convenient. It's really shame, since back in time of 4.4 I've pretty much used tap to wake exclusively. Not sure if there is any fix/sensitivity change... Would be nice though
You can use an app called ambient display when u pull your phone out of your pocket it will unlock by itself.must try that
Thanks for all answers.

Other ways to wake Xperia XA Ultra

Hi guys!
As the thread title says, are there other ways to wake the phone up other than the power button?
I understand that some devices can have the phone screen turned on through other means, like the volume rocker or maybe the camera button (needs root on some), or maybe even through a flip cover magnet.
The goal is to prolong the life of the power button, so any help would be appreciated.
TIA
I guess I'm stuck without root, right?
I use a flip cover. There's a reed switch in the phone that will turn the screen off if a magnet is near and turn the screen on when the magnet leaves. The sweet spot for the magnet is about a finger width away from the volume rocker. I can send you a more accurate position if you need it.
Prior to that I was using an app called Gravity Screen. It's on google play app store and it worked pretty well if you discipline yourself to put the phone screen down. I used it to turn the screen off if I placed it face down on a desk or if I put the phone in my pocket. There are settings for using the phone with headphones attached and having it in your pocket. You have to play with the configurations somewhat but it's decent.
There are similar apps in the store but that was the one I bought.
Lastly, it's only half a solution but the xperia home beta lets you knock the screen twice to turn it off. If only it would let you knock it back on then life would be good but things are never that easy.

Thanks for the tips!
I currently use Greenify to have the screen off and sleep as a workaround.
I'll look into xperia home beta, maybe it could work better..
I also have a flip cover, though it doesn't have a magnet on it. Maybe some quick hacking could work, too, but I'm not sure if the magnet could fit flush in the case.
Gravity Screen is another one that I can look into. I'll see how it could work for me.
Again, thanks for the help!
i use nova launcher prime with the double tap gesture to turn off the screen it works really well but as turning on the screen i havent found any app that doesnt consume so much battery lets just hope that nougat bring such feature, the last couple of days xperia companion warn me about an update but when i tried to download it nothing happened so y we have to wait some more i guess

I've used that feature on Nova for all my other phones. That, configured to work with Greenify's Lock+Sleep feature works wonders.
For my Xperia, I'd like for it to be with Xperia Home, just have to check with Xperia Home Beta to see how it works..
I was just a bit curious to see if somebody with XA Ultra without root has remapped a key to another button to wake the phone up, as somebody was able to change screen density without root.
Anyways, I guess a smart cover may be the only practical workaround for this.
Thanks for your feedback guys!
Xperia home in fact has a double tap to sleep functionality..now, if I can only map it to use Greenify's Screen Lock + Sleep functionality..
So, double tap to lock has a workaround, but it would have been great if we can enable double tap to wake (i know its a kernel feature - impossible to mod unless we have root + custom kernel) or maybe even just map the volume or camera buttons to do it..
I wake my XAU with my Sony SmartWatch 2. I hope they add dtw when Android N is released. Gravity Screen works well but drains battery a bit quicker.

Nice! I actually am thinking of getting a Smartwatch, but it's kind of hard to justify the costs..
Yes, I have used Gravity Screen years ago, and it does drain the battery quicker than without..
So, not unless we have root, i think those are the only options we have for XAU

LED notification alternatives

I guess will be nice if we discuss how to achieve some kind of notification on our displays without draining the battery. Smartwatch is good way to deal with it, but let's keep to the phone itself. Most wanted feature is to have recurrent notifications. I invested some time in trying some apps and these are my "5 cents":
- Always On Edge- this is the program I prefer to use so far and will explain why. It lights up the edges and could be set to be recurrent. With many settings about almost everything. Just don't forget to save the settings after changing things. It works most of the time, but it's a bit tricky- don't let the system to control it (to stop it)- you can do it from battery management. And from my experience- use the power button to turn off the screen (or just leave it to turn off). Using some additional programs (like JButton and Fluid gestures) activate more secure mode (could be wrong) and prevent the notification blinking. The good is that it's relatively battery friendly.
- LED Blinker Notifications - always working, nice customization. Shows colored circles on the screen in Awlays On Display manner. Can set different color for different app and random position (to avoid burn-in). The bad- spends a lots of power and the battery is going down fast. And is way pricier. I bought it anyway to test it, but probably will stay unused.
- Glimpse Notifications- works (almost) always. The problem is that will either light up your screen (drains battery, because wakes up the CPU) or makes a vibration or a sound. This could be annoying for everyone.
- integrated Always On Screen feature in our phones- works fine, shows icons with the notifications. Nice solution, but spends about 1% battery per hour (on my phone). This is the whole consumption of the phone of course, but I think that this is 1.5-2 times more than regular consumption. It's good solution anyway.
I use the following combination:
- Always On Display with clock + notification icons
- Always On Edge (rainbow crashes around the edges + clock + notifications)
- phone is in DND
- Xiaomi Mi Band 3 vibrates

What is the purpose of DND? Avoiding sounds and turning on the screen?
P.S. In my previous opinion I meant AOD- Always On Display (not Screen ). Sorry for the mistake.

I don't want to hear anything from the phone. Just want to be notified in a visual (AOD + AOE) and haptic (Mi Band 3) way.
I assume screen or display is both fine
Hi
I'm also looking for a solution since I miss the LED so much. I'm currently with Always On Edge, but I'm not happy with it. It drains the battery quite a lot, even when I don't get a lot of notifications.
I had days where the stats do report 90 min cpu including 50 min in background. It's quite unrealistic that it had to blink that long during the whole day.
If somebody has a better alternative (also playing together with the fingerprint unlock), please let me know.
Better to check the mAh that are consumed, than the CPU and the screen time. It's located in Power Consumption Details -> Software and is not so bad. But probably depends on how much time you spend away from your phone. You can use AOD and put the phone with screen down, it will turn off screen until you flip it and see if notifications are available.

Hi there!
Is there a way to change how the vibration works? Sorry for the noob question.. cheers!
@kimirai1027 for some Apps e.g. WhatsApp you can specify vibration intensity:
Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp -> More Settings -> Vibration: Off/ Standard/ Short/ Long
@doemEINS Thank you buddy.. cheers!
I had tried to use ALWAYS ON EDGE (among a few other apps) but no matter what settings I tried, etc. I could not get it to work. That being said, I found another app on the Play Store called ALWAYS ON AMOLED and it works like a CHAMP.
It is super customizable and seems to be very similar to ALWAYS ON EDGE so if you are looking for something like this to use as a visual for notifications then I recommend this app. Just search for ALWAYS ON AMOLED on the Play Store...
damn huawei, in the p30 pro are a lot of missing features.
don´t look on samsung, you might get wet eyes, however they want the same price, lol.
oh yes, the laica optics are good, but still, the software is a piece of ..... ( I am not sure, can I say this here?) you know what I mean.

You are absolutely right! Nothing to add from my part, it is exactly what I lack in my P30 Pro: the software is horrible.
On the other hand, guys what is wrong with just using the AOD? It doesnt drain the battery like the Samsung one...so...? I use that and I am ok with it.

notifybuddy not working on my p30 pro with android 9. install, allow access, choose apps for notification ... nothing happens when new notifications are there. maybe we can do something with tasker? turn AOD on when notification?
I find it unbelievable in this day and age when manufacturers decide to remove a functional Led yet don't replace it with anything half decent for notifications.
You know when you plug in your charger, those green bubbles appear? A notification like that would have been nice.

That's the one thing I miss from my S10+, using good lock to have the notification light around the hole punch, most third party applications from the play store need ridiculous permissions or use a stupid amount of battery

Great thread guys..
Can someone please share thier AOE settings/configurations if it's working fully for them.
Its not working at all for me, and I'm usually a person who enjoys playing with settings until I get a satisfying result.
Would really appreciate it.

General GSI for our phone Corvus OS

So here's a ROM that i would recommend even tho it's in beta Corvus OS it's android 12 and everything works even the Camera but sadly not the greatness of Sony's Camera app...i personally haven't tried it with the Custom Kernel Kirisakura just yet but i will and report back on here if they place nice together...Magisk also works great with this ROM you just have to be careful what you flash...
Hopefully our device will be fully supported soon.
Just putting down some thoughts here.
Double tap to wake is borked, the setting already hints that it is unlikely to work and I can confirm this.
Forcing native res works rather poorly. On reboot I need to reset the dpi to make the GUI play nice, but some things remain iffy. Such as:
Gesture navigation still thinks preview windows should be the lower res, not native (looks poor, see attached images)
Some random visual glitches that cause a silent crash + restore, it's not critical but you can see it happening
No built-in battery health (as in limiting it), have to use something external (AccA)
Camera quality is way worse compared to stock. I don't mind as much as I don't care a lot, but quality regression is very significant (if I have to quantify it, I would accept 20-30%, but this feels more like 60%)
The GCAM's I've found that don't immediately crash (not many) all have serious bugs
No camera app found that plays nice with front camera, hope you weren't planning on taking pictures with the front camera
Edit: For 6 you can actually use the native app. Performance is super bad though.
To not sound too much like a downer I'll also put in some "niceties" compared to stock.
Holding volume button to seek is now native
OTA work again
Good visual eyecandy for charging, locking and more
No bloatware galore
Much much finer control over lots of little things, especially status bar is very nice
Other things:
The default launcher is a bit lacking, so I installed Nova 7, but this still has some shenanigans with force reloading and short unresponsiveness with gesture navigation. Very annoying, but I'm quite sure this is not the fault of the ROM. Just hoped this was improved (suggestions welcome)
If someone found a good GCAM please share, the ones I've found are either broken or seriously lacking.
It seems that sometimes the phone does not respond to my finger until I press the button. This could be intentional to prevent accidental unlocks / phone being locked for X seconds because lots of "bad" fingerprints detected.

Yeah, this is why I've been very hesitant to install to install GSI ROMs, all the issues I've mentioned are because the X1 III is not the same as most other devices.
Wake to tap? Device specific thing.
Native res issues? X1III specific.
No built in battery health? Not device specific, devs pls
Camera issues? Device specific.
I think I'll drop the higher res as that will remove the most jarring of issues. The camera is whatever as it will not improve by switching to PE and double tap to wake is meh. Annoying at worst.

Alright some more shenanigans and needing to do a clean install further I do know some more things now.
1. is still broken, I'll try flashing a different kernel perhaps.
2. It's actually not so bad. It will remember and auto apply on reboot after a couple seconds. Gesture and notification bar may be slightly borked, but that's fixed fast by reloading system UI and switching between gesture and button navigation. The thing about recents has been resolved by switching to a different launcher with it's own quickswitch (lawnchair).
3. Acca works fine.
4/5/6 Nothing.
Another update.
2 is fine. Just don't use the built in launcher while forcing 4k. Just use lawnchair or something (+ quickswitch).
On another note, automatic brightness does NOT appear to work. This is quite the massive issue. I'm honestly a bit baffled how I haven't noticed until today.
AOD is also quite broken, while the phone is on the wireless charging and being ratiod to 90% it will continously blink. That's super annoying as I normally use AOD to check if I got a message, if it blinks it takes my attention, effectively defeating the entire purpose of AOD. *Groan*
These issues are really starting to stack up by now, I'm seriously considering reverting to stock. I'm really worried something else won't be working once I need it in the future.

It's available in stock but it has never worked correctly. The proximity sensor doesn't disable it! There's a "Prevent accidental operations with screen off" setting as the world's dumbest work-around. That puts a keyboard and alert on the screen while you're walking. It stops emergency butt-dialing but the battery still runs down.

A what now? I do recall the proximity sensor not working really well with dt2w but at least it worked and I didn't notice some significant battery drain.
I did see some things about dt2w being disabled because the touch interface is powered when the screen is powered and this can't be decoupled. I'm not sure if this applies to this phone though.
Regardless, it shouldn't really matter as the X1 III is an OLED screen anyways. So as long as it's full black it should be fine(?)
I'm not asking for the perfect solution and if battery drain slightly increases that's a worthwhile investment to me. At least provide the option. Don't decide what I want because it has potential side-effects (just warn or something lol).
Actually I'm going out on a limb and stating that dt2w should be enabled by default if the device's screen is an OLED screen. Overlay and device specific things be damned.
