All microphones KIA - G2 General

So for about 6 months my phone worked fine in all ways. Then I broke the screen and had it replaced (for more than I could have sold the phone for...). Then a few months ago (about 9 months after buying) my regular call microphone stopped working. Oh well. I could still call on speakerphone because I guess it used a different microphone. Except now that microphone is dead too. My phone is now a small tablet incapable of calling.
Different roms, clean flashes, stock, aosp, etc. Nothing changed it. I think it's a hardware issue.
Now that I got my screen replaced is there any chance that LG will fix it for me if I can make it appear stock, or will they know and demand I pay some ridiculous price to get it back? At this point I guess I might as well send it in and try because my only other option is to use an old phone or maybe waste half of my net worth on an unlocked M8. Still, I'd like to have some input on what you all would do.

Or you could have a go at replacing both microphones its not to tricky there are many tutorials on you tube.

I'm being forced to use a moto x until I get another upgrade. This phone has slowly degraded into barely being useful as every phone I've ever had has. HTC is the only android brand left for me to try. I hope the m9 is amazing.

The phone itself is fine. Willing to bet something went wrong during the time either:
When the screen was damaged or
During the repair process.
That's probably what LG is going to say if you try to ask them to repair damage they're not responsible for.
I would replace the Mic and speaker as Melt1down suggested and go from there.

The phone is not fine. Every phone I've ever had has had this problem. It slowly gets worse and worse and nothing changes it. And I didn't drop my phone, so don't assume things you don't know.

Help! My touch pro's keyboard wont work!

Hey guys, I just got my touch pro last week and now the keyboard wont work. No drops or water damage. It wont light up or anything. I dont want to have to go back to the sprint store, so if u guys have any suggestions that would be awesome. Thanks.
Sorry
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had the same thing happen to me. I spent probably a combined total of 8 hours on the phone with different people before I got any kind of solution. I couldn't find anything online. I was out of the initial Sprint Warranty. So Sprint said, sorry, you're gonna have to pay for a whole new device. That wouldn't work, the device was just 3 months old. So I called HTC, and at first they said there was nothing they could do either, until I talked to one person who forwarded me to PCD. They were able to fix it, for free under warranty, they replaced some RFID tag (IDK what that meant, it was in this checklist of tests they sent back) and sent the phone back. All I had to pay was shipping to their Repairs center. The bad thing was, it took them 3 weeks to work on it (only 4 days were shipping there and back). I hope I have been helpful, and I am sorry about the bad news. I know the feeling.
Hey, i had the same problem but i went to sprint and change my device, the new one works perfect, my advice go back and change it.

Not much but maybe
Had one that same thing happened. Performed hard reset and corrected it maybe temp fix though but it worked so far about a week of good use so far.
I had the same thing on my Verizon Pro, what I found was (I took mine apart) was that the cable had came loose from it's connector, I just had to reseat it and works perfect. By the way I bought it that way (got a great deal because it didn't work).

I have the same keyboard problem...it doesn't work most of the time, but once in a blue moon it will....the keyboard lights come on, but no input from keys work....so is that still a connector issue you think? Did you keyboard backlight come on?
2nd question: How do I open my TP?
Thanks.
Here's a link with the Touch Pro teardown, thanks to BigDiesel07 @ PPCGeeks. Hope this helps a bit...

I am not sure if my keys lite up or not, it has been a while, but it sounds to me like a possible connection issue with it being intermittent.
happened to me twice hopefully tp2 fixes this little issue.
same problem!!! just go to sprint, they can fix the problem... "they changed my keyboard"!!!
yah me too, i took my touch pro back to Sprint and they changed the whole touch screen part of the phone for me in 45 mins and for some reason that fixed the keyboard as well, so i guess the problem is in the touch-screen part of the phone, not the keyboard itself
Try this. Take out the battery and pinch extremely hard on the space button to re-seat the keyboard cable.
I'm not completely sure if it will work as I got my phone replaced before I found this fix.
Try it and let me know if it helped any.

Genius! However, i am not. Your solution worked, however i fear it may be a temporary solution? I want to get this fixed while under warranty and dumb ol' me fixing it, well, now i won't have anything to show the sprint store

go to your phone carrier.
demand a NIB replacement. (new in box)
it states in the manufacturing warranty that you get a NIB replacement for the keyboard. it's a known problem, tell them to call the tech department or htc tech support and they will tell the rep the same thing.
Don't leave without a NEW replacement.
Don't take a refurb(mailed out) replacement.

hahahahahha.
I call BS on that one. lol.
I did it... removed bat', piched key b'. it now works... eeeeeeeeyesss
Got a 0 hour touch pro less than 2months, keyboard started lagging since 2 weeks ago, then extra spaces and duplicate letters and finally died after a charging session in a hot weather day.
Removed battery and press spacebar top and bottom very hard to resit the keyboard connector fixed the issue.
Same happened to me on my Alltel CDMA Touch Pro after having owned it for about 4 weeks. It would also not shut off the screen backlight. Was very odd. Luckily, my Alltel store is literally across the alley from my house, so I ran a full backup using Sprite Backup, walked over there, and they swapped it out for a new phone within 10 minutes. Took me another 45 minutes to restore the backup, but wasn't nearly as bad as sending it away for several weeks to be repaired.

How many are breaking!?

I will be purchasing one soon, but i see alot of problems! Is this just because no one posts "everything is good" and most posts are just going to be "mine broke"?
including, leds/trackball light, broken pixels, screen gap etc
also is there any thing in common between the broken ones? Ex mostly white ones are breaking
and does htc offer a warranty at all?, i found the hero for 580 usd w/ free shipping but no return policy/warranty...this is scaring me!
Should i get white with teflon coating or brown which i sort of like more?
also i plan on rooting the hero, and i want to be clear on if you can put it back to normal after rooting if i have to return to htc.
one last thing, a few posts said "mine died"... is this totally dead? will they be able to see if it was rooted in this case?
Sorry for the long post!
ps, please post color and (maybe model number???) and if its broken or not

The brown one also has a rubbery-like surface. Not sure if its teflon, but its definitely not the usual hard&glossy surface that most phones have.

It shouldn't be a problem. I'd also expect HTC to reload a "known good image" on any returned phone before they run any form of diagnostics test.
thanks very much!
No problems with mine either..going on two weeks, white unlocked from clove.co.uk.
No problem here
all good here... lovin my hero!!!
Mine is still perfectly fine - no issues with build/hardware at all.

well i just have to point out something. I bought my phone a week ago and till a few days ago, me too i thought that i was a happy hero owner until i read issues about the led thing and checked my phone. I do not know if i have the headphone prob as i never checked it out. What i want to say is that some issues are present and you wont notice them unless u pay attention to them.
Do u want to say that gap issues between the screen and more than 30 ppl complaining about issues with led, trackball and headphones ( probably more but some of us do not know it yet) are due to the fact that we dont take care of our phones????
I'm gonna jump right in, and just say. i've had my hero for 2 weeks and loving it.
This is my first android phone, so I took a little getting used to, think the missus is getting fed up with me checking forums and stuff. But all in all I am extremly happy with my Hero.
I use it everyday for:
E-mail
Facebook
Calls
Messages
USB Modem
Surfing
RSS
Podcasts
Performs better than my Ipod Touch ever did, and I almost never have to hook it up to the laptop... Loving IT!
so far mine works fine (1 week). the gap is a problem with some branded phones but mine (T-Mobile Germany "2G Touch") has no gap. the problems with the headphones and LED seem to be software related, since there is a workaround to manually activate the headphone again.
oh and BTW I <3 Hero. best phone i ever had.
got 2 on first release from orange (graphite), 6 weeks ago, 1 for me and 1 for me gf.
no screen gap issues, no dead pixels on arrival, but i had one appear after 2 weeks, right down bottom right of phone, extremely small and never notice it at all unless im on dead pixel detect.
gfs phone hasnt any dead pixels as of yet.
not a single other problem like leds or headphones.
2 totally happy customers here.
Totally happy with mine, no hardware problems so far.
Best phone I've ever had especially with how much I
Like to mess with stuff.
I was happy only one day. If I use longer (about 10 min) my Hero screen starts flashing. If I make reset, everything is ok for some period. I hope it's not serious problem.
I had the LED issue for a while, but just updated to the new rom, and they are back, so this could be a software, not hardware issue
Oh, and love love love the phone
I have read many posts saying that the new ROM update will fix LED and Headphone jack issues.
I just bought a phone on eBay myself, haven't had the chance to play around with it too much since I need to change my plan beforehand, but I have turned it on and look around and everything is fine. It is a White Unlocked one. I must say, the Teflon coating is like nothing I've ever felt before on a phone, it just makes it feel like a million bucks!
But besides the color, which is up to you, I would say get the phone! There is always a 1 year manufacturer warranty, even if the seller doesn't offer you one of their own.
An official HTC update will be coming out VERY soon if you don't like the idea of loading up a custom ROM (although it is highly recommended as there are added quirks such as root access).

Sprint Official update problem

First of all, I will start by mentioning that this is my third Touch Pro from Sprint and I just want to confirm something before I take back to the store.
Is there anyone else who updated to the newest official firmware and have problems with your video playback from your albums. I had some videos stored from my old phone on a sd, and when I try to play it on this phone, it would cause a lot of jagging, freezes, audio playing while video is not. I then recorded a video with the camcorder and when I went to play back, it did the same thing. The settings I have it in is in
-CIF 352x288
-MPEG4
If its the phone, then I'm glad because I can go get myself the Touch Pro 2 at the store for free.
Things to note,
-had no problem like this on the 2nd phone
-upgraded the firmware as soon as I got home with this phone
-been like this for a while, just never cared to get an answer until now
Any feedback to a similar problem or non-exsisting problem would be greatly appreciated.
Look, if your ultimate goal is to get a free TP2, then just tell them that the phone gets unholy hot or some defect from the phone itself (battery lasting less than half a day with moderate use, etc). Believe me that the TP from Sprint has a bunch of those... If you start going by software, believe me that they will find a way to either fix it or convince you that it can be fixed with an update...
were you getting a free tp2 due to these issues?? Because im having the same issues as well including that my battery gets extremely hot and will not charge

I'm curious about this myself. I was gonna get a Hero in a couple of months when my contract is up, but if I get a TP2, I might hold out for a little while.
There is a list somewhere that after a certain date, if your phone is with in the manufacture warranty of 1 year, and you have insurance of both types with sprint, you can switch out the phone to a list of 10 other phones, the TP2 and the hero being among those.
Still a sure answer on this would be great. Thanks egz on some insight. And gxt, you mean you are having problems with video playback too?
So I think I'll be going to the sprint store tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how it goes, unless I don't go that is.

http://slumz.boxden.com/f244/sprint-now-replacing-touch-pro-touch-pro-2-a-1295800/
im going to give this a shot.
Hello everybody(insert simpsons joke here), it looks like i finally went to the sprint store. After what seems like a lifetime ago, i told them the problems I had, they said they would do a hard reset, and to come back in an hour. An hour and a half later and I will be getting mnyself a touch pro 2 soon. Now the only bad part is that i need to call this store to find out when they would have any touch pro 2's in their warehouses. So at least for now, I am assed out, oh and forgive me if this comes off as bad grammer, I am typing this from my touch pro 1, the screen is too small.

Breaking NEWS: LG insider confirms faulty phones!

I ended up talking to a phone tester that works for LG here in San Diego. She's from South Korea, she deals directly with corporate in Seoul and translates for them. I told her my V10 is a glitchy freakhouse and that it was all her fault.
She said they know that a certain percentage of the phones are defective with overheating, GPS failure and other issues. She didnt tell me what percentage though so not sure how wide reaching this is. I realize that missing fact makes this a little less valuable info but I thought it was interesting enough to share.
No product is perfect. I've dodge most of the issues I see here in the forum, only heating issue I had was trying the set up a email with Exchange server.
Like you said a number would be interesting. Did she indicate it was a hardware or software issue?

She didnt and wouldnt know and I'll tell you why. She explained their process. The testers just sit in an office and play with the phones, they dont use them in their daily lives. Then they send all issues to LG R&D who are supposed to diagnose and fix the issues.
Maybe they have other people doing more in-depth desting, I dont know but she is a contract employee of LG.

I'm not sure what your intention is here but if we dont bring things like this to light then we're not doing anything to help all the people who are getting bad GPS, dead pixels, etc. that is screwing up their daily lives and causing a ton of hassle. I'm not an activist but I'm also not going to completely ignore it when this phone got me all excited, cost me $700 and then turned out to screw up my week and waste a bunch of my time.

Yup, I agree. I'm going to return the one I have today or tomorrow. I want this phone to work so bad. I might try a new one, one more time.
Yea, not sure if its true but I have read in many forums how phones don't work properly out of the box and most were fixed by doing a reset on the phone. The first V10 I had was great except for WiFi. I get over 100 Mbps at home and every device gets the same speed. However, the V10 was reaching 10 Mbps...after the reset it worked great and speed was up. I did end up exchanging for a new one (just to make sure I had a good phone, why I got to do a reset to fix a new phone) and the new V10 is great, out of the box. I get GPS lock quick, great WiFi and no lag.

Since english is not my primary language I will do an extraordinary effort to do this...I've passed for 4 V10's already. I was waiting by 9.00am October the 30th to get this wonderful device LG announced that hit every single check mark that I always wanted in a smartphone. My first impressions should've sufficed cause the first one they brought was scratched out of the box, yes, the metal bands were scratched, so obviously I asked for another and that one was ok at least on he outside.
After less than a month I started to notice some weird behavior when displaying some content with the brightness maxed to 100%...dead pixels everywhere( I made a post). I exchanged that unit to and to make the story short I am with my 4th V10(counting the scratched one) and this one has "only" one dead pixel(or an array cause I don't think we can spot one pixel on this devices with our bare eyes) with no other issues so am keeping it fighting my OCD every time I think about it. I don't want to call T-Mo again and put another exchange request cause I know it will come with dead pixels and/or other more problematic issues.
LG quality control is a joke, at this price point dead pixels policy should be 0.

I only see people complaining about phones bought from USA operators/stores, none bought on Amazon or other countries, I wonder

I suspect most of the "complaints" are propaganda from the competition
For complaints. Try a different brand if your not happy with LG. Make both you and LG happy, and move on.
I have had my V10 since December (from T-Mobile). Initially no problems to report, but the image retention issue has become progressively worse (as I type this, the image of this site is being temporarily "burned in"), and the GPS has only recently been failing to connect for navigation. my father also got a V10 the same day, but does not report these issues. User activity may be leading to a faster declining lifespan of phone, but both phones have had a drastic increase in overheating since receiving the Marshmallow update, which may be playing a role in the even greater descent into decomposition.
I've been a big fan of LG phones for years, but the V10 may not be able to keep up with the demand (I'm 19, so like most millennials, I use my phone constantly-possibly why I have this issue)
So my LG V10 has been perfect from day one. Now lets assume that every post on this thread is factual.
Then all we can do is say sorry it was you that got the bad phone, if you add all the posts here it's still less the half a percent bad phones, that's a pretty good number.

Express my dissatisfaction with Google and Huawei

I'm not sure if this is even allowed here but, I can't use the phone for phone calls AND 1 other "over the air service" such as GPS or WIFI hotspot or even wifi - if I do the calls get broken up with the poor audio routing of the blue tooth adapter--it's almost like the phone doesn't have enough resources to run cell phone call AND GPS or cell phone call AND blue tooth music or cell phone call AND wifi/hotspot service....any eon one service used at one time works flawlessly but with a cell phone you want to use ALL the wireless services at once and have them work.
AND, the phone shuts itself off when it's in my pocket and charge to 95-100%?? I miss phone calls from work all the time, I am constantly checking the phone to make sure it is still turn on. What a pain the behind.
I call Google - so sorry it's Huawei's problem, I call Huawei - so sorry its Googles problem. In the meantime I bought this phone from google and it worked well for 1.5(purchased 06-16-2016) years (besides the shutdown issue) then poof gone - it is now a piece of crap - 3 months outside of the one year warranty and I need a new phone!
So, my question to these two companies ( and I know they have lurkers in these forums all the time - that's why I am posting this here after speaking with BOTH of them) is: How in all honesty can you expect me and every single person I talk to about this to ever purchase another phone from either one of you?
Because I do talk, to everyone who will listen, about this; I see a LOT of people everyday, different jobs sites all over eastern Ontario. I tell them that as a technician for the past 30 years and knowing how technology works and also knowing that BOTH of these companies are probably to blame each in their own way and that NEITHER of these companies are thinking about their customers on this issue and only about their own bottom line I couldn't possibly recommend either one of them for anything.
Without exception these people I meet ask me which brand they think I SHOULD buy. I tell them this: "If you want a phone that just works and you aren't a customizer get an iPhone. If you are a customizer get a Razer Phone, an LG if you want cheap or a Samsung, Samsung being my preferred choice - but whatever you do, DO NOT buy a google phone or any phone made by Huawei because BOTH of these companies have proven to not be trust worthy, over this debacle, to their customers and if this is the case now then why would you think any future incidents of this nature would be any different?
Good bye to Google and Huawei, hello to Samsung again.
Thanks for letting me rant/rage here.
I have to say, I'm also disappointed on my nexus 6p. One day it just went nuts, shutdown itself and then bam! bootloop occurred and from that day on I can't install roms including stock, yes including stock, without applying a 4-core mod (forces my device to use only 4-cores to work and boot). Some say it's a hardware failure or something, idk. And even before that i have been having issues with my battery, i only get 4h sot average. I cant believe i spent so much for this crap. Dont get me wrong though, i love this camera very much and the stock google experience (and custom roms) but everything else is sh*t. So yeah, +1 for this "dissatisfaction"

Well I have no idea what carrier you use but if I was you I'd "accidentally drop" or "lose" my phone and file an insurance claim- I know Verizon told me if I end up breaking or losing my 6p they would either give me a Pixel 2 or 2XL so maybe that's something to look into?

Personal experience is the complete opposite. Phone was nearly 2 years old (1 year warranty in the UK) and started shutting down. Online chat with Google and confirmed I had done the basic fault fixes like factory reset and they immediately send out a refurb to replace it.
They had no legal requirement to do so but also did this for a lot of people who bought their phone through the play store. Its more complex if it was bought through a carrier as the warranty / contract is then with the carrier or Huawei and those experiences appear to be less straight forward.
Everyone has different experiences, I wouldn't touch Samsung with a barge pole due to personal problems I had with them and the number of faults our organisation has with their phones. Had an LG phone that had the reboot issue and they wouldn't do anything as it was outside of the 12 month warranty.
Warranties have an end date that you sign up to, they may give a goodwill gesture outside of this, or you can fight them to say the fault was inherent.
What have you done to diagnose the issue on your phone?
It could be as simple as the battery needs replacing. It can have all sorts of symptoms including shutting down or failing services when there is high demand and a power spike which the dying battery can't provide. Have you run something like Accubattery to check the battery state?

I'm in the UK. I bought mine from Playstore but the warranty card states the handset had a 2 year warranty?
I agree with you on LG though. I bought two LG G4's. One had the well documented bootloop within warranty and they repaired it. The second started to bootloop two weeks out of warranty...LG didn't want to know.

Had the same issue. The phone was practically useless for calls due to its secondary mic issue. The battery aged really well for me, though
When I contacted Google - they were pretty responsive. I really appreciate Google for this. After a year they had no obligation to even entertain me. But that's about it - they gave me standard replies like factory reset - to which I laughed. Rooting and disabling the secondary mic would have probably solved the issue but then the payment options would'nt have worked for me. Google had acknowledged the mic and the battery issue in North America but here in India they went the factory reset route. I shared the bug id as well. Nothing helped. They asked me to visit the Huawei service center. They changed mic - issue still persisted - asked me to contact Google.
I eventually got myself a Samsung N8. Had been with Google for 3 generations. The Pixel 2 XL couldn't convince me this time. Customer lost.
