[Q] Venue 8 w/ tomtom, and backup camera - Dell Venue

Hi, im new to this forum. I bought a venue 8 and plant to install it on my car. It just upgraded to 4.4.2. I havw some questions:
1. I install tomtom 1.3.2 us map in the internl memory but it does not work. Does anybody know how to fix?
2. Can i use easycap to connect to backup camera. If yes, w hat version of the chip of easycap. There are several chip outside there.
Thanks so much guys,

I am not familiar with the tom tom sotware but this tab is not going to work for a couple reasons. First off the easycap is not going to work on stock android as I'm almost positive there is no driver except on maybe CM rom which we can not flash at this point. Also even IF it was the windows version you had this tablet would still not be ideal for your application as it does not have a dedicated charging port. In other words you would have to disconnect your charge cable to connect the OTG adapter for the easycap. You would be much better off finding a tab with said dedicated port. Great tab, just not well suited to what you want to do. Hope I helped! :good:

so is there any uvc device capture I can use for my purpose?
What is the different between Nexus 7 and venue 8, b/c I read somewhere on the Nexus they use rooted android 4.4 or unrooted 4.3 which is similar to the venue 8?
This one will work: ( i'm under 10 posts)

Yes that will probably work but the issue is you cannot charge and use that at the same time, so if you dont mind unplugging the charger and plugging in the uvc everytime you need to use it then no prob, its just not ideal for a clean install imo. I dont own a nexus but as far as I know none come rooted (someone correct me if Im wrong) but I think it is a simple process to root em, maybe even a one click method but again I am not 100% sure. Ideally you need to see if the Nexus has the dedicated charge port or ask someone who knows as that is going to be the biggest advantage for your install if so.

DSLR Controller now available in Market (very cool)

While a thread on this topic does exist in the xda General section, I thought it would be nice to get a GTab-specific discussion on this particular new app. For all the photographers out there (well in this case, those who use Canon DSLR's), an absolutely incredible new app has gone to beta, called DSLR Controller. I won't bother repeating whats in the other thread, so you can see for yourself here
I have already purchased and installed it on my GTab, which is by the way running the Bonsai TW rom, and for the most part it works, with the exception of a few little bugs. Specifically, the touch-screen-to-focus only works the first time you try to do so after opening the program; after that it doesn't work and you need to use the manual toggles for focusing. I have yet to try it out on the stock 3.1 to see if perhaps the TW thing is the issue, though I anticipate doing some wipes and rom flashes in the coming days once an update.zip is available for the stock US version of the TW rom.
Anyways just hoping that other 10.1 owners who are interested in this incredible app might be able to chime in with their experiences. Overall this app has HUGE potential for us photographers
thanks for this, I am planning on getting a 7D soon so hopefully this works out
I own a 7D, 60D and a 5D MKII. This works on all of them.
I wanted to buy this but I am not sure

Which cable do I need for my 7D?
EDIT:
I guess I need that one right?
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-1PL0BEGSTA?
Now if it were available in Austria I'd be happy :-/

Yup, thats what you need. I have one for my TAB. Camera connects fine however I'm unable to install the DSLR Controller app. I had to get a refund. No idea why it wouldnt install, other apps are installing fine. I'm running the latest TW rom on my I/O tab. I'll try again down the road.
This app looks absolutely amazing! I've seen various apps that connect to the computer program to control the camera. I dreamed off an app that would not require the computer. I never though it was possible, but I guess it is.
So all we need is the samsung usb adapter and our camera's usb camera?
Can't wait to use this with my 7D!

[Q] (Q) Nook Table/HP netbook Merger-is it possible?

Hello everyone, I am very happy to be a part of this forum. I love my NT 16GB with CM7. It is awesome.
I have an old HP Mini 1000 netbook with a bad hard drive and no screen. My thought is to mount the tablet in the area where the screen was and use the keyboard/mouse/camera/speakers and periferals. I suppose I would have to cause the tablet to function as motherboard/screen and attach all devices through usb. It is probably more work than it is worth, but would be neat to see. Let me know what all you smart folks think.

with a fully functioning ( ota ? ) usb port, then YES.
Totally out of my knowledge base here, but I think I remember reading something about "USB hosting" needing to be enabled in order to use USB peripherals. The NC has this cracked, but I don't think anyone has figured this out for the NT yet.

Tell me what you know about the NC's usb port please. . And I remember too that the development person toiling away on the new kernel @Kurma30, said the port's got no power ( oh no ! ) and so you need a powered hub -or- custom wiring ( ? ? ? ) to get usb to first base. Hmm.

[Q] HP Stream 7 and Android

I'm getting a new HP Stream 7 (great price!) and wondered if anything regarding Android on it has happened? I've Googled it and not much comes up. There are also a few posts on here that haven't gotten much response but as it was over a month ago it was posted and it's a new device, has anyone gotten anywhere with it?

I have gotten as far as getting a boot animation and that's it. I don't know what the problem is. I am trying the 4.4.2 from that Intel project. I have done everything needed, but just can't get the full install. Something is stopping it and I have yet to figure it out. Did get Win 10 preview onto it though, and that takes care of the bitlocker problem. I am about ready to trash the entire drive and see if I can't do it that way. And as always, make a recovery backup before anything else. Also have a OTG and powered 4 port USB hub, wired keyboard and mouse ready, you will need it all.
Android on HP Stream 7
I've been trying to put Android on the HP Stream 7, Windows 8.1. Cheatman's Magic Stick got the furthest, with Android actually coming up, but then it would always shortly freeze at a random time. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that the processor is x64 not x86? I always got two error messages initially during bootup:
ioremap error for 0x3b7d2000-0x3b7d3000, requested 0x2, got 0x0
/home/dds/build/android-x86-new/kernel/drivers/rtc/hctosys.c: unace (rtc0)
Booting would continue but the process would eventually freeze, even after the various Google Apps were updated.
The Intel Project images all seem to be for a different platform; I wasn't able to get the images to be recognized and booted, even the 64-bit ones. The Stream 7 is not an expensive piece of hardware, but it would be fun to have Android running on it.

Trouble Restoring to Stock Nougat from CM 13.0

I'm trying to restore a Nexus 9 (flounder, WiFi) to stock Nougat from CM 13.0-20160924-NIGHTLY-flounder. Problem is, my PC won't detect the device.
I have another Nexus 9, which is running Nougat 7.1.1 and it is neatly detected by the PC as Nexus 9.
I've looked through the developer options and made sure the settings are the same on both devices. I've flipped through the various connection types while connected (charging, media, photo).
I'd appreciate some help unf#cking this situation.

I saw someone else with that same problem. Turned out to be the USB port. If it turns out to be that, it's an easy repair. Just change the USB daughter board. Couple screws and couple ribbon cables. Takes like 20 minutes, and they're like $12 on eBay.
Explore software solutions first of course. Maybe uninstall and reinstall drivers. Or even try wugs toolkit.
Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed, I read a similar thread with the same solution. A USB board should be on its way from China in the next few days. I was considering buying one anyway as the charging performance has been erratic at best for a while, which might be due to the same basic trouble with the hardware.
I'll update when the replacement board is in and installed in a couple of weeks.

I changed mine too (also from China). Mine was affecting otg connection. Fixed it right up, took about 20 minutes. I'm no pro either, only other hardware repair I've done is the screen on my n7 (2013).
Replacing the USB board fixed the problem.

Development of a Car Optimized ROM?

Hey guys,
The Mi PAD 4 is the perfect size(in most cases) for a car dash mounting and will be a great replacement for the now very old Nexus 7.
There have been a lot of development over the years of custom ROMs/Kernels that are specifically optimized for such a use scenario.
I for instance am in the process of collecting the needed cable and accessories but since my ROM building knowledge is very limited at best, would be very happy if there are more people here that think this idea is good and somebody builds us the custom ROM/kernel for that.
So lets discuss this.
What we will need are the following main things:
1. Kernel/ROM that is configured for a landscape use.
2. An option to have the device connected to power all the time but not charging (not to kill the battery)
3. An option to turn on the screen automatically on getting power over the USB port and turning of the device after the power is gone (car turned off) (preferably with a delay of some sort)
4. After power is lost to put the tablet in very low power mode by disabling WiFi/LTE/Bluetooth and so on (again configurable) This is to avoid draining the car battery if left for a long time parked.
5. Simultaneous Charging/OTG (this may actually already be possible, but I have still not found an OTG HUB that works properly with the Mi Pad 4)
probably I have forgotten some more things...
Have in mind that all of those I've mentioned above, already have been developed in one form or another for the Nexus 7, so it should be easier than starting from scratch...
Hey,
i am using my MiPad 4 also in my car. So far it is working fine.
I have connected the MiPad via USB to a carhifi DSP (in my case Helix MiniDSP)
Here are my answers to your points:
1. i am using Evie Launcher in landscape mode.
2. see 5.
3. MiPad is waking up and starts to play music as it detects the DSP on the USB-Port when the car is turned on, and is stopping and turning off when the engine is turned off, this is working with the Pad itself and the app Automate
4. use app Automate to turn off all radios when no USB connection is detected
5. i am not sure if this is related to the hardware of the MiPad or the Kernel, i have tested some CustomRoms but was not able to get it working, so i switched back to preinstalled inofficial international MIUI-Rom
Thanks
Hehe i also use it in the Car It was also a Replacement for my old Nexus 7 2013.

Can you please throw some more light on the "preinstalled inofficial international MIUI-Rom" ROM where simultaneous OTG+Charging is working for you? Is this is the fake ROM (as people call it) that vendors install after unlocking the bootloader and then sell it to you?
May be a link to the ROM (if its downloadable) or a screenshot of the ROM information from the tablet, will help.
TIA.

Now that I was able to make OTG+Charging work with HavocOS, am proceeding to replace the Nexus7 in my car with the Pad. Will let you all know how it goes.
I'm also thinking about installing a mi pad 4 into my car. Any news on a good setup and ROM?

HavocOs is working great so far in my car setup.
Which havoc os rom are you using? I flashed the current build today and otg plus charge doesn't work. It's one or the other.
I will next month also run a project for building in my mind in the cars radio mount (2din). So far I found Headunit Reloaded is really cool to have Android car working perfectly! For volume control I use a floating volume button (Virtual Volume Button on Play store).
But the rest I will figure out next month when I get my car finally haha
