Please help! I can send/receive texts but don't have internet? (tmobile) - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I just got my Ultra.
Took the sim card out of my Nexus 5 and put it into the Ultra. I immediately got some text messages but can't get internet working. I took it out and put it back in and still the same thing. I'm of course in a place where I had signal on my old phone.
I have the C6833 International Version and all my research said it would work fine on the T mobile LTE network.
Anyone have any idea what's going on??????

Make sure your APN settings are correct:
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,mms,supl

WOW that worked! Awesome thanks man! All of those fields were empty for some reason.
I was about to try to return the phone because I couldn't find anything online about this. If you pm me with your email I'll paypal you $5 for your trouble

[Q] AT&T Non-smartphone Data Plan [Solved]

I just switched over to the AT&T non-smartphone unlimited data plan from the 200MB smartphone plan and I can no longer connect to the internet via cell data. I've restarted the phone multiple times and reset the APN settings and nothing seems to work. I've read on these forums about other people using this same plan without any problem, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help
OK, solved it myself. I just had to change the APN settings to as follows:
Name: AT&T Non-smartphone (or whatever you want to call it)
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username :[email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
Authentication type: <Not set>
APN Type: <Not set>
Just did a speed test and got 7.07 Mbps down and 0.74 Mbps up
Don't know how long I'll be able to keep the plan though before AT&T catches on
are u still on non-smartphone plan?
Was att ever able to detect u are using a smart phone?
I wanna know too
Even though the OP posted this originally almost a year ago, I am responding to the recent inquiry.
I have a i9100 and have used it with AT&T since Christmas on the Feature Phone unlimited data plan.
When I first got the phone I first put my SIM card in an old Moto Razr so I would have a feature phone IMEI number to give them. After they set me up with the unlimited data plan and did their test call I just put the SIM card in my GS2 and I haven't had any problems since.
I have used anywhere from 5GB to 10GB each month and haven't had a single notice or question from AT&T.
AT&T doesn't have the IMEI #'s for the global i9100 in their database because it isn't sold in any AT&T or retail stores in the USA, it is only imported through unofficial channels. Without recognizing the IMEI # and with only 3G access, I guess they just don't care about monitoring data usage.
I only get 1.5-3kbps but I think it's just my area. That's good enough to listen to Googly Play Music all day at work and when I'm driving.
I've been on the unlimited non-smartphone data plan since mid-2009, and have been on various non-AT&T smartphones (including the i9100) since late 2009, with no issues.
Does this mean that one can pop the "$50 unlimited goPhone SIM" into the i9100 and mobile data would work with proper APN settings?

Should work, using the APN settings above in post 1. I use the same settings on a post paid plan, I don't see any reason it wouldn't work on a GoPhone prepaid plan.

Neither the settings above nor the default wap.cingular settings work on my i9100. Any ideas why? Anybody has the mobile data actually working on this phone with the pre-paid plan?

Something is fishy here. Is your Note the N7000 (international, unbranded) or the I717? (ATT branded)
And are you absolutely sure the GS2 is the I9100? (international, unbranded)
Check labels under the battery.

Yes, both are international and unbranded factory unlocked. I've been using the GT-N7000 for months, but the i9100 was just bought recently used. It's possible that something is wrong with the i9100 hardware, but the seller said he was using it on the post-paid media net just fine and I believe him. Either for some reason it just doesn't work for this particular phone orI'm doing something silly with the APN and other phone settings. I hope it's the latter...
Something is fishy here, cause I saw plenty of xda users reporting it working on i9100 before I decided to buy it...

Voice/Data Phone Sim Card

Has any of the new owners try to use an at&t phone sim card in the JS to access the internet?
I ask because when I bought the Galaxy Tab 7 I couldnt use it out of the box, I had to root it and change the Rom in order to use it.

not sure, haven't tried, but what I will say is it is set to use the tablet/laptopconnect broadband apn. so putting you phone sim in would require you to use the wap.cingular apn which you would have to add manually to the apn list as it isn't there. i don't see why it wouldn't work and at&t would notice that your sim doesn't belong in the device as it is a valid registered imei in their system and not unknown like an unlocked tablet.
Does the 4g LTE require a new Sim Card? Is it different from the 3g sim card?

I am not sure but I dont think so because it is also H+ capable but my question is about a Data only Sim and not the same as the phones use.
AT&T uses new/different SIM cards for LTE. When I bought my Jetstream, they showed me the 2 SIM cards that work with LTE devices and complained that the SIM cards aren't obviously marked as LTE cards. 1 is for postpaid and 1 is for pre-paid. They hadn't received shipments of the LTE cards yet, even though we're in an LTE market, so they have to use the one in the LTE device's box. My AT&T 3G SIM card only gets HSPA+ in the Jetstream.

Ok so it works? And is your phone sim?
It shows the HSPA+ icon rather than LTE, and the wireless settings show it's connected to the HSDPA network. However, the built-in broadband APN doesn't work with my 3G smartphone SIM, I'd have to create a MediaNet APN and try to connect.
pdagal,
Using the same SIM as in the Focus my display first says:
A&T Initalizing... (Please Wait)
After a few minutes (long, long wait) it says... gave up waiting.
Anything special you had to do to get the unit to work using other ATT SIM?
You may need to get 4G HSPA+ enabled on your account and SIM. Several months ago I was using an HTC HD7S and it wouldn't work in AT&T's HSPA+ phones for data. I had to call up and tell them I was testing an Inspire 4G and needed HSPA+ enabled on my SIM.
That won't get you working LTE (that requires a different SIM), but hopefully you'll at least get HSPA+.
MANY thanks, will do that tomorrow.
3g SIM
Your existing 3G SIM (depending on age) will just simply need to be provisioned for LTE.
As well as the APN is different. Without updating your SIM you'll only get HSUPA or 3G.
Thanks, appreciate the info.
Hm Interesting. I have a unlocked dev jetstream and I tried putting in my 3G/HSDPA Sim with a active phone and data, and it'll only hook on edge, while same sim card in my phone can grab HSDPA instantly. Not sure why...

I'm not sure if your question was answered, I just placed my sim from my SGII on my Jetstream and it works. I had to add the APN "phone", that's all i did. I'm getting decent data speeds 4.5, 4.8, 5.3, 3.9 down and 2.9, 3.3, 3.1, 2.8 up.
There were two apns there, I believe one was activate and the other broadband.

[Q] Activating DNA without Verizon Service

What can I do with my DROID DNA when it comes in on Wednesday brand new and I dont have a Verizon Account. I just have a Tmobile SIM and I wanted to just drop it in there but I saw that when it is unboxed there was some activation screen? I also saw that you can bypass this screen by not having any SIM in there but not sure what will happen if I put the Tmobile sim straight from the beginning? I dont want to have to sign up for Verizon nor do I have any friends on the network! Anyone have an idea? I appreciate any help

I wont get any Verizon activation page in the beginning? I assume if I have a tmobile sim card in there it will just work and automatically skip the initial activation page that verizon puts on there? Most videos ive seen are of people that had sim cards from verizon that activated it then they put in the other sim afterward. but if its SIM unlocked out of the box then thats whats up!! Thank you
Been there done that. It will work on T-Mobile after inserting the card. I forgot all the buttons I pushed, but you certainly do not need to sign up for a Verizon account. I also chased down some APN settings but I still do not have picture mms working for some reason.

Buy the phone from T-Mobile, unlock it via on of the reliable online unlocking services, unlock the phone. If you have an existing AT&T account with LTE, its easy as slipping in the sim. If not, its a little trickier, AT&T will generally restrict non-AT&T phones to 3G/4G --> No LTE. If you are activating a new account, you will need to provide them an IMEI from an AT&T branded phone with LTE, they will then provision your account for LTE service. Some people use a fiends old AT&T LTE phone, or from another source.

I have a TMOBILE S5 - I didnt' want to wait for the "Free way" of unlocking a sim card so I purchased the code form a web site that offers this - there may be a free way to do this sometime soon - but I didn;t have the patience to wait - do a GOOGLE SEARCH - you'll find several that offer this service.
I have no restrictions on my phone - 3G/4G/LTE - awesome speeds on ATT LTE network - =
If you have an existing AT&T account, its easy. The trickier part is if you are a new customer, the T-Mobile S5 IMEI wont be registered in their database as an LTE device, so it will default to non-LTE speeds.
Some people have had success with really helpful non-corporate AT&T stores at adding the non AT&T branded phone into the database, but most won't and so you need to get creative. You'd probably have better luck convincing an independent dealer to do this, like a mall kiosk etc. as they will want the commission from the activation. Some people have had luck using the IMEI from a demo phone at the store (Can be from any LTE device), or a friends old device etc.
The key is that it needs to be an AT&T branded LTE phone so your account can be correctly provisioned with LTE, otherwise you will be stuck in 4G land. Another way you can do it is also to call in later and switch the IMEI to an AT&T LTE device, get the account provisioned and then put the sim in the T-Mobile S5.

That's not true, it does register as an LTE device. i gave them my IMEI off the T-mobile Galaxy S5 and they added it to the biller, and then asked them what does it show up as in the biller, they read it off as a Samsung SM-G900T. not a Samsung SM-G900A. Heck, even my Nexus 5 shows up as it should as a LG D820, which is the model.
Well just to let everyone know. I bought an unlock code from unlockfusion and 48 hours later it still hasn't arrived but I bought one from cellunlocker.net and my phone is now unlocked
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes, if they add your IMEI into their system, you are fine. Many stores and CSR's will not do this however, in which case you need to figure out a workaround. Stores are paid a higher commission for selling and activating a branded phone that they are for an unlocked off network device.

and I'm kinda surprised, BYOD is a very big thing right now. possibly just some shady reps or stores, CSR's should be able to do it with no issues.
T-Mobile S5
For this that are using the T-Mobile S5 on AT&T. Sounds like LTE and everything is working well. My question is, for this who have rooted and using different roms. Have you seen the lag go away? Is the phone a better experience. I love my M8 but I just love the thinner feel of the S5 but I cannot live without root and roms. Please help before I drop $650. LOL

Yeah. Buttery smooth. Lol
Those using T-Mobile's S5 on AT&T, can you comment on reception, preferably LTE?

There is virtually no difference from my old SM-G900A to my new SM-G900T. I'm using a custom ROM (see signature) with zero reception issues. My LTE is 24Mbps down and 11Mbps up. That's out in the boonies where I work, it's usually better at home.

I pulled 25mbps down and 14mbps up in Knoxville TN. If you are in a weak signal area it does seem to drop signal a little more frequently.
