First of all, you need to download the latest version of hangouts from Play Store. Make sure it is updated. v2.3+
Secondly you also MUST install 'Hangouts Dialer' by Google Inc. from the Play Store.
Hangouts Dialer
After you do both, reboot your phone for good measure.
Lastly, open Hangouts. A popup should ask you if you want to integrate Google Voice into Hangouts to make calls. After you accept that, click your email address/contact picture on the top-left. This will open the slide-out action bar. From there click on Settings. Once there, click your email address. Check the following options.

Working perfectly on my Nexus 5. Best of luck.

thanks,
it works now, the settings box was not checked for incoming calls
I still have one problem with calls though. My phone wont ring when it is in sleep mode. I have to take it out of sleep mode to get calls.
I need it to ring when it is in sleep mode? I have negalite bluerom on it with the latest google hangouts with dialer
does anyone know what i do to get it to ring when it is in sleep mode.

Google Voice..Is it fully functional with rooted NT?

As the title states...(minus the calling capabilities of course)
Thanks for the info.
Rob
If you refer to google voice for text messages and calls and not google voice search as some people get confused, then yes it works pretty well, but for make calls it does not work with other apps like groove IP , gvoice and so because of the lack of the proper drivers for the mic and possibly speaker too.

Awesome thanks....yes I will just be using for the texting. When the NT is in sleep mode will it still notify you of an incoming message or do you have to manually check it? Also, when rooted do you get audible notifications for new messages and/or emails like you do on a regular Android tab or phone?

yes you can get audible notifications, and the notfications will not show up while nook is sleeping once you wake it up wifi will wake up too in few seconds and then you will have to wait until next refresh of google voice to check for new texts to finally show up in your notification status bar, i think it refresh every 5min but not sure and there is not option to set the refreshing time in google voice.

The only problem is that you cannot access your contacts list (since the Contacts application is not installed).

Nop, you can use your contacts while you sync them with your gmail account:

I've successfully texted using Google Voice with the NT (sent and received). I use GMail, but recently started using Contapps for viewing and text messaging/e-mailing my contacts on the tablet. It also has Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc integration. So far so good.
No go on the phone calling though.

Anyone uses Internet calling on S3?

I have 2 SIP accounts set-up under the Phone app > Call Settings > Internet call settings (Account).
There are times when I pick up an incoming VoIP call (caller calls one of my DIDs associated with one of my three accounts), I pick up and the sound is routed right away to the speaker of the S3 with no option/ way to make it go back to the earpiece.
Has anyone experienced? Can reproduce?
Can someone please try and report their findings?

I use it. Always got the sound thru earpiece. Have another problem - I cannot figure out how do options of calling work: for all calls when mobile network available, only for internet calls (what is that?), ask for every call. I use the last option, but it's annoying.
That's how I use it too. Couldn't figure out "Only for Internet Calls". I don't see the option under contacts or anywhere else.
Anyone knows?
Solution is found. Try Advanced Dialer app to filter dialed numbers for SIP routing through stock dialer.

Another issue: the native SIP client does not produce any DTMF tones!
Update: Jelly Bean fixed the DTMF tones issue. It is now working.
am I reading this right that VOIP calling is built into the OS now ? if yes how do I put my GV voip account into it ? right now I use groove ip
ICS had native VoIP and a built in SIP client, so does JB.
Kudos to Samsung and HTC for not removing that from the GT-I 9300 and the S720E.
Launch phone, you should be looking at the dialpad, contextual menu 》Call Settings, scroll all the way down to the Internet Call Settings section 》 Accounts.
You can add accounts there.
Note: Google Voice is not a VoIP provider and so you can use it with the SIP client.
I use Voice+ from the market place for Google voice on the S3.

how to remove incoming call with voice promts!!!

whenever I get an incoming call with caller ID, a lady's voice would voice prompt who is calling and it's so loud!!!
I just switched from S4 to S5. I remembered it did the same thing on my S4 when I first got it but I was able to quickly disable it. But with the S5, I tried and tried and couldn't find a solution. I'm not in driving mode FYI...
Any idea??? Thansks!

Check in settings> language and input. Might also want to check accessibility settings.

Did you install any app that requires access to "Accessibility"?
Some apps like Tasker requires you to enable accessibility and you will get a prompt that says "If you enable accessibility for that app, you won't be able to use talkback, air view.... etc...."
I remember that back in S4, it caused problems and made talkback becomes active from time to time even when it was unchecked due to a bug.
I don't know if you did change accessibility or not but just wanted to mention that.

"Ok Google" detection on any screen and Audio History gone on Nexus 5 settings

"Ok Google" detection on any screen and Audio History gone on Nexus 5 settings
Hello
I'm having the weirdest problem. My Audio History and the ability to detect the "Ok Google" hot-words is gone from my Nexus 5.
This is how my "Voice" settings look now:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The Audio History isn't there anymore.
And this is my " 'Ok Google' Detection " settings:
The option to have the phone listening on any screen or while locked and the Voice Model settings are gone.
Could you guys help me to correct this? I was a heavy user of the "Ok Google from any screen" feature.
I've already tried doing a hard reset, my primary language has always been set to English (US) and I'm running the latest version of Android and the Google Apps on my Nexus 5.
This is the first time I'm encountering a problem that doesn't seem to be affecting others. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Could this be a decision server side? As if someone had flipped a switch in Google, and as a result I no longer have these setting options?
Thank you.
It's very weird: my settings look like Google Search app settings before the 3.5.14 update, but I'm on 3.6+ Google Search and still no Audio History nor Voice model setting.
Help please

Unfortunately, I already tried that: the first screen cap in my first message is that exact menu.
I tried to contact Google through the feedback feature, but no response so far.
Since nobody seems to know how to fix this, would you guys know how i could contact Google about this issue beside through the feedback option on the app?
Thanks
bump
Help please
Any Googler on the forum know what this could be due to?

Is there a chance this will be solved with the Lollipop update ?
I just installed the Lollipop preview, but the exact same problem persists
Help please

Is anybody able to make P30 Pro respond to "OK Google" command?

Hi guys,
for some reason my P30 Pro refuses to answer to "OK Google" command. Anybody has a guide for this?
I selected English US in Google app, Voice settings, but getting "Access with Voice Match - This feature is currently unavailable for this language"

I think that you also need to select a region that supports US English. I live in Italy and had to change my region to United States.
is there any way to disable it off the power button ?

Thank you.
Settings, smart assistance, gestures and controls, google assistant, wake with power button, uncheck
Tried all your suggestions, not working. Here's a screen recording.

I have the voice match enabled and even then, it doesn't unlock the device and just asks for the pin code.

I had this problem. Google Assistant worked just wouldnt respond to "OK Google" and wouldn't let me retrain / delete voice model.
I force stopped and cleared data from Google app restarted and installed google assistant and then restarted again (i did it without restarted many times before giving up and rebooting phone)
when i loaded up google assistant from play store it let me retrain voice and now fully works
I have the exact same problem with my honor 9 and that happened right after the emui 9 update, it works only if I'm already in Google app screen. (was working fine on emui 8).
I was able to get it working for a day or so by turning off Assistant completely and then setting it back up. However when I went back to it today, it's disabled and I can't re-enable.
Not sure why
