thank you The Whisp

Thanks for the Q&A tab.
I have one question, can anyone please confirm if the light sensor is working? The proximity works just fine but the light sensor doesn't. I would like to know if this is a problem of my device only or from the rom.
If you don't know there is a great light app to test in the playstore. Sensor Test
Please can anyone confirm before i open a thread in github, thanks

I have one question that is making me a bit confused.. So i'm using TheWhisp build for some time now and that sure means that i have my device rooted. Every time that i install and open an app that need root permission i'm prompted with the superuser permission setting. So i'm deffenetly sure that my device is rooted and that my device does have supersu / superuser.
What i don't know is.. which one is it? Supersu by Chanfire (that i suspect because i used his auto-root method) or if the device has superuser. I don't find the app anywhere and it isn't hidden nor protected.
Why am i asking this? Because while browsing a bit in the xda forum i found out that chainfire update his app giving adding more protection. Now.. i don't know if i can install the superSu from the playstore or if i need to.
Sorry for all the questions but..the more i read about android the more i found that i know nothing. thank you.

Did you enable developer options in setting about phone?
In the Settings app, select About Phone.
Scroll down, and tap the Build number entry seven times. On the seventh tap, you will be notified that "You are now a developer".
You can also flash supersu from cwm or philz recovery or install it on playstore.
After you can Go into SuperSU > Settings > Make sure "Respect CM root settings" is unchecked.

thank you very much for such a detailed explanation averelstone! had no idea about these hidden menus..
One last question, the new option in the setting is called Superuser, does this mean that the app is superuser? (confront with supersu from CF) I cannot find any information about it in the settings, since there is no "about"
Thank you in advance for your time to explain me this stuff. cheers

You're welcome Shinra00, Superuser is integrated into CyanogenMod 11, you can manage your rooted apps into it.
About phone is on setting of CM, you Scroll down, and tap the Build number entry seven times it enable the developper option for activate or desactivate root for apps and ADB.
I don't know much about superuser i use supersu for my apps.

Encryption problem
First of all, hello and thanks for an awesome rom for my Galaxy Express 2!
I've been using this rom for a good three months and it works flawlessly. The problem i have is that i have encrypted my phone, and now when i tried rebooting it it says the password is wrong. I am 300% sure that i am typing the correct password. I have tried restoring to factory setting and reflashing the rom with no success. I still get asked for the password. Also, when i reset to factory settings it says "Error mounting /data!". What can i do ? Is my phone rendered useless ?

Hello,
you can try to format data from CWM , it's in mount and storage, it will remove encryption.
The problem is CWM does not support reading encrypted partitions.
You can use ADB but the more simple is to use odin and back to stock ROM and reflash CM.

THnaks for your answer. I did indeed tried to delete the data with no success. Finally, i found a guide on the internet describing how to use ADB to remove the encryption. It worked flawlessly.

Hey how's it going?
One question, how do you guys perform the change of rom? Full wipe and clean install of rom or is it possible to just flash the zip on top of the previous rom?
I'm asking this because I'm having problems since the previous 2 builds to restore everything with titanium backup. If i do the batch restore of all missing apps + sistem when i restart i get stuck at the boot.
And as you know to configure every app and setting is really troublesome..
How are you updating every build? I would appreciate if you can tell me your method.
Thank you

Hi shinra00,
I always flash on top of previous version but if i have issue i do a full wipe ( factory reset, format data) and restore my app with TB.
with same android version you can flash on top safely most of time, depend of people, few prefer perform a full wipe, other dirty flash
About your TB error it's strange, i never have issue when i restore my app.

MHL - HDMI-out

Thank you for the reply averstone
I´ve got one more though.. the other day i discovered the power of MHL - HDMI-out and i got fascinated to find that i could go to anywhere without a pc and display movies on any tv that has hdmi.
On samsung official website with all the specs, the connectivity specs shows micro-usb 2. On other sites it shows micro-usb 2 (MHL).
4 days ago i was on a tech store and tried a mhl adapter without any success. The person that was helping me said that there could be 2 causes, lack of mhl hardware support or lack of mhl coding in the cm11 rom (yup he knew what cm11 was). After a litle browse online i found out that in fact can be a lack of code in the rom as it happened for galaxy 2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2000135)
So has anyone tried mhl -hdmi-out with this device? Can anyone confirm me if it has hardware compatibility?
Thank you very much

I did not know we can use micro-usb for HDMI, you can try to grab a logcat when you connect adapter and report error and ask to TheWhisp.
Maybe someone with adapter could try on stock, i don't have adapter myself and have no plan to buy it for the moment but thanks you for sharing this.

Hi , the build is pretty stable and really smooth. Got no bugs so far , BUT , the big but is the battery life. It dropped at about 60% of the life on the official 4.4.2. Any suggestions?

Hello,
i don't have this battery issue, try to calibrate battery, there is many tutorial on xda. You can install some good apps like greenify, BetterBatteryStats, Wakelock Detector, Amplify, for manage battery and wakelocks.

[Q] Androidlost factory-reset-proof?

How do I make Androidlost app factory-reset-proof? I'm pretty amazed that this serious issue hasn't been answered yet in all those threads I searched regarding Androidlost.
As I understood it's possible for any rooted device to put an app in system/app and it would survive a factory reset, but the question is about the setting of this particular app, and I would be very grateful if someone who managed to do this successfully will share this step-by-step.
Thanks

WOW, not a single answer? This is amazing...
As you said, you need to be rooted for that.Apk file would need to be transferred to system/app folder.
There's no way you can do it if you're not rooted.

I am rooted and I understood that.
I am asking if anyone has done this (or knows exactly how it is done), making Androidlost factory-reset-proof aka after a factory reset is this still working good? Aren't there any settings or any app data that also needs to be "saved" somehow to protect it in case of a factory-reset? I just put the apk in /system/app and all should be working perfectly??
LE: Come to think about it, it should be easy for me to test this... just make a nandroid backup first, right?
so has anyone been able to move an apk to /system/app AND find a way to make their settings for a particular app factory reset-proof? im trying to find a way to protect not just an app I have on my phone but also the settings

I am working on it.
So far I have managed to modify the kernel, to make it reinstall androidlost on every reboot. This would allow the app to survive any wipe, factory reset, firmware update, short of flashing the kernel itself!
The problem is the settings. I can easily add my own settings to my own custom kernel, but I doubt many people would want their phone to report to me. And asking everyone to modify the kernel themselves to store their own settings, is out of the question.
I have contacted the developer of androidlost to see if we can make it work so that it only needs to be configured once on a specific phone, and then it is tied to the IMEI. This way, the settings would survive anything, and would always get updated whenever the phone contacts androidlost servers.
ok, well what about building the apk and settings into a custom rom? such as, taking the stock rom (or mr robinson's root66 roms), installing the apk, set up the apk with whatever settings you want, then building a custom rom out of that? then, if you do a master reset, wouldnt the apk and settings be exactly as they were when u first made it? I hope that makes sense lol.
any news on this?

I'm very interested in learning how you modified your kernel to reinstall AndroidLost at every reboot AND how you put your own personal settings in the kernel so that they are applied to AndroidLost everytime!
If you wouldn't mind, could you possibly reply to this post, or send me a private message, explained how you modified the kernel and what I would need to do to input my own settings into my kernel? I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to rooting, flashing ROMs and kernel, and dabbling alittle in writing my own apps... So I shouldn't have too much trouble doing what you did if I could just get a little example and pointed in the right direction!

proof, i'm factory reset by me and android lost still there, in another case, my Samsung grand prime get some error and I bring to Samsung service center then my phone got factory reset with software update, and........ guess what ? android lost still there, bravo
but what about the settings? im interested on doing something like this for wheres my droid, so far the only app that does this succesfully is CERBERUS, i would like to take the wheres my droid and make it a system app (no problem there) but how to preserve the settings etc?
factory reset proof
I have been searching for a way to implement this and today i found this resource that you might find useful : (search) how to install any app as system app on android (addictivetips website) - sorry, i can't be allowed to post a link here.
I implemented one of those methods and i succeeded in making androidlost a system app in my phone. However, i havent tested whether it will still be useful after a factory reset due to loss of app settings (data).
This probably won't help but https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/cerberus-support-forum/0zH3VEu1H9w

thank you for posting this here! :good:
Many thanks!
Thanks for this! Works great, feels more fluid... Except doesn't seem to fix the touchscreen deadzones that occur intermittently (but of course that's for Samsung to take care of)
How this update should be installed? Adb?
Edit. Sorry, never mind, this is for N5100 but I have N5100. Waiting for new version for my device.
I am interested in loading this rom on my wife's tablet. I have been flashing rom's on my Motorola Phones for years now and am very comfortable doing so, but a real Novice when it comes to Samsung.
I am on 4.1.2, insecure loader. I have tried both CWM and TWRP recoveries and can use either. I have also used Odin as well.
Question, do I need to wipe data first, and how do I load this rom onto a Samsung Device.
Sorry for the trouble, but I am a fast learner and will be on board soon (I hope)

Since this is an OS upgrade (4.1.2 to 4.2.2) a data wipe is highly suggested. Frankly, I would suggest wiping system, data, cache and dalvik just for good measure. If she wants to keep a lot of the apps' progress/settings she has, I would install Titanium Backup and back up all user apps first before doing anything. She may have everything synced with her Google account as I believe you can sync apps and their data through Google now, but I haven't tested it yet.
To install the ROM, you'd just need to put it somewhere locally on your tablet, I have a '000Flash' folder on the root of my internal SD storage for any ROMs/kernels/modems (on my phone), etc. Place it in there, then get yourself into recovery. Once in recovery, wipe everything I mentioned above, then go back to the install/flash option of whatever recovery you're using. Flash the .zip file you just downloaded and put locally on your tab. Wait a few minutes and boot her up!
Just make sure you have the right software for the right version tablet you have, N5110 vs N5100.

Also you will need to have CWM or TWRP installed as a custom recovery for it to work. There are plenty of options for installing and the new versions that are non touch should fix any issues uyou had previously. Happy flashing!

I'm all rooted and running the ROM...
This ROM definitely needs a little TLC...
How about putting a list of requests together so maybe we have an Idea of what we can expect?
Here is a thread for customizing this ROM!!!
Here is a link to the Google Edition 4.3 Camera
This works I have it installed. and it is pretty sweet. (even on a 5mp Camera)
I installed xposed framework today and it works well on this ROM. Has anyone else tried this?
You can go here for other mods to add to it...
After you have the Xposed frame work installed you can install the app_settings see attachments, to modify the per app DPI settings.
example, you open up app settings go to gmail, set the dpi to 160 & screen (dp): 1000x1600
I did this for System settings as well and they look nice.
Play around with it and we can build on it...
You can find other mods that you can see if they work and build a list in a new thread. REMEMBER TO BACK UP FIRST!
Ge the disabler in attachments to flash in case you get into a boot loop. These work well since this is a stock ROM.
NottachXposed works very nicely for this ROM... You just have to play with it a little bit, but you can tweak it out nicely...
Don't forget to grab the Multi-Window Manager over in the Themes and app section. It works Great Without any flaws so far...!
If you need a 3-way reboot menu, here is an excellent app here for that...
Knock it Off Please
OK, please stop with all the "bad-mouthing" and "trolling" and... the "Off-Topic" posts. You know the rules, especially in the Dev Forum.

Thread cleaned. (please don't make me come back in here again)

Thanks for the deodexed, recovery flashable rom. I just flashed it and got everything set up. So far everything is running great.

Hi
Even by doing as per Post# 4, Wallpaper gets replaced but does not work.
Going by wallpaper details found MD5 error.
Few more issues on my device, new to this ROM. Flashed 2 days back.
1. How to increase the FONT & ICON size in Status bar, Key board letters are too small, notifications are small.
2. Screen and around the camera gets heated, during this time battery drains super fast.
3. BBS is not working, error message "Battery service could not be contacted"
Please help me with the above issues.
Thanks in advance

What post #4 are you talking about? What does not work? What gives you an MD5-error. Please be more specific.

You need to change the display density setting. Open the file /system/build.prop with a text editor and search for the line ro.sf.lcd_density=182. Change the value to something else. Bigger numbers give you bigger icons and fonts. The Default for SGS2 Roms is normally 240, Neatrom uses 182, that's why everything is smaller than on most roms. If you want to use 240, you can also flash this ZIP in Recovery: View attachment Density_240_v8.0st.zip. It's just a modified build.prop for 8.0st. There are also apps on the PlayStore that can change the density for you, but I never tried them.

Without more info it's impossibe to know what is draining your battery. You need to find out the app that gives you trouble with BBS or similar app.

In Android KitKat, user apps are not allowed to access battery stats. It's part of Androids security policy. There's two ways to fix it:
Get Xposed Installer and install the Xposed Framework. Then, download the module Enable BatteryStats Permission - voila! Since Xposed is simply awesome for other tasks as well, I recommend this method.
If for some reason you don't want to use Xposed (e.g. if you use ART), then you have to convert BBS to a system app. There's several ways to do so, like Titanium Backup or Link2SD... However make sure that BBS gets installed in /system/priv-app/, and not in /system/app/, or else it will still not get the necessary rights.
Hi is there a way to reboot into recovery except from the home + volume + wake and also which Version of Apolo is the right one 7.1 CM?
Battery life?
Hi guys, was checking this rom out and it looks awesome!
How's the battery life though?
I'm currently on Resurrection Remix and the battery life when I have wifi on is really poor.
I'm basically looking for a 4.4.4 rom that gives maximum battery life.
Also are there any kernel recommendations?
Thanks!
Weird battery behaviour
Hello Guys. I met a very strange issue.
After flashed the ROM, the battery indicator acts very weird.
When the phone is fully charged, and I remove the charger. after reached 85%, and when the battery is gong down, the indicator is going up from 85% to 90 %.
Anybody met this ? and how to resolve ?
I already calibrated the battery, but the problem still on.

I'm running this with Apolo V0 kernel and I'm satisfied (on original Samsung 2000 mAh battery):
~33% a day of normal usage
~1% an hour idle (data on, sync on, location on)
~0.3% an hour night mode (data off, sync off, phone online) - translates to ~14 days of runtime
Have tweaked wakelocks/services.

1. You can configure advanced power options to be able to reboot into recovery from a running ROM
2. Yes CM is the right Apolo for NeatROM (having superuser integrated)

And no battery drain observed with mediascanner service
I can't get this to run on my phone. After carefully following the instructions my phone is stuck on the first boot screen with the yellow exclamation mark. Strangely it seems like I have TWRP installed which I can't get rid of. Even after installing the CWM linked to, the next time I manually enter recovery TWRP opens.
Update: Sucessfully installed a Cyanogen based ROM instead. Shame, I would have liked to try this one.
GAPPS not working?
Hi there, please help me. I can't get gapps to work/install. I first flashed beta version...nothing, then tried the stable version and only Chrome appeared in appdrawer. I still can't access play store (from the Nova Launcher menu option), the browser that came with the NeatRom doesn't start.
The rooting, flashing of the rROM etc all went well, according to the instructions, the only thing was that I couldn't format /preload as there was no such option in the CWM recovery. Could that be the problem maybe?
Please tell me, what am I missing here...

No, Preload is not used in AOPS Roms, only at Sammy ROMs.
maybe your download of GAPPS or ROM is corrupted, check the MD5 file to see if there is any thing wroing.
Clear Cache from Recovery
Try to reboot
Try to re-install.
Somtimes something goes wrong and then you have effects as you mentioned.

Sorry, but I gave up over AOSP and flashed the "stock" NeatRom 6.4 w/o any problems. Runs great!
Still, when I was searching for a solution, I found out, that it is possible that I didn't make a nandroid backup of /preload (when I was still on rooted stock samsung ROM - before flashing kitkat cwm and later AOSP NeatRom). I read that in the CWM recovery that comes with Siyah kernel - which I used to make a nandroid backup - you have to manually select to make a backup of the /preload part. in addition to all others... And i really didn't find a file with "preload" in the nandroid backup folder that I copied to my PC. If so, I am suppose to have trouble when/if going back to stock samsung ROM? If that is the case, maybe it would be good to update the guide for flashing the KitKat-based AOSP NeatRom. I don't really care right now, because I really like the stock NeatRom...I just hope it'll work...
NeatRom 8.0st and TWRP - no restore possible
Hi all,
hope, one of you will be able to support me ?
I'm not able to restore any of my TWRP backups done with TWRP 2.7.1.0 which came with the ROM.
All backups went well and were flagged as 'successfully'.
However, trying to restore one of them failes every time. It looks like after restoring SYSTEM and starting with DATA, it stucks.
One 'failed', no error code or any additional information.
I've a 32 GB SD installed on my i9100 and this is where I store all the TWRP backups.
Copying them to internal storage does not help.
Any ideas ?
Thx in advance,
BR,
This is a good room

CyanFox on my S2 has begun to crash a lot lately... Usually when I'm in an app (both Google and otherwise) and I press some button or something, the phone immediately reboots. And just now it was stuck in a reboot loop while connected to the charger. Any way to fix it?
Also, it sometimes have problems hanging up phonecalls. I either have to wait for the other part to hang up, or reboot the phone.
Cyanfox 2.0.2 with the kernel that came with it in the thread.

"Can't establish reliable connection to the server"-problem after flashing to Cyanfox
Hi there! I got this nasty problem and no idea how to solve it!
I flashed my SGS2 (I9100) to "CyanFox-2.0.2-20140228-NIGHTLY-i9100" and added some gapps to it (Slim_normal_gapps.BETA.4.4.build.9-20150404), but when I tried to open my Google account, it said "Can't establish reliable connection to the server".
I tried every solution that I found in this site, even the most reasonable - edited the "hosts" file with Total Commander with superuser rights granted. Even after factory reset, nothing happens. In fact, I noticed that my "hosts" file contains only one line - 127.0.0.1 localhost. Anyway, my phone stays invisible to Google and Samsung servers! (I even tried the "Find my phone" option on the Samsung site - couldn't find it!). At the same time I have perfect wi-fi and mobile connection - browsers, viber and skype work almost without lag. I still think my phone lacks something and this makes it fully invisible to servers.
Can somebody come up with some solution? It's really a brain-tingling puzzle!
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your prompt reply! One last question:
Why neither of the compilations contain Google play store and Google play services? Is it forbidden to put them in a gapps file? I think I need them for my phone.

I've been thinking of repartitioning my internal memory first, so I'd be able to install more extended version of gapps. What's your opinion?

Yea, it seams pretty straight-forward. I'm going to use these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/orig-development/repartition-memory-s2-t3018749 - method2
Hopefully I'm not bricking my phone!
Fixed! Fixed! Fixed!
I finally made it and now I enjoy using a brand new SGS2!
Here is how I did it:
1. I did a internal memory repartitioning using the first method from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/orig-development/repartition-memory-s2-t3018749
/The moment of removing the battery to reboot in recovery (step 4) was a bit disturbing, but all went on as it was supposed to, according to the instructions/
2. On "step 11" I installed the Cyanfox CM-11 KITKAT 4.4.2 Official ROM - the last nightly, which I downloaded from this link https://mega.co.nz/#!ZNY1lQiR!mbX_xL...pGlI6YDY2mDHJg
/The release looks very stable - after one week of running it, I had only one crash with automatic reboot after opening a youtube clip in fool screen using the Chrome browser/
3. I activated the developer options (tap 7 times on the build number in settings->about the phone) and in the developer options activated the root access for Apps and ADB. After that I installed the Total Commander application (downloaded the .apk file from the net) and granted it superuser rights.
4. This was the most difficult to me - to choose the right gapps compillation. I tried all the PA Gapps packages, but uniformly received the "error status 6" message. So I tried this one https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934554406 - the MINIMAL edition from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53319258#post53319258
I finally had connection to the Google servers, only the google keyboard crashed!!! Luckily I had downloaded on the SD card a SWIFT keyboard - installed it and that was all I needed - with access to Google Play store my phone was back alive!
I hope posting my humble experience here would help another people having my problem to solve it and "resurrect" their SGS2s - it's a really great phone and I believe it has the capabilities to serve it's owners well for another year or two, or... who knows?
I'm sorry if giving all that links violates the rules of this forum in some way. I hope the moderators will excuse me and make this post right
Wish luck to all the adventurers who decide to change the OS of their a bit aging devices!
And a deep bow of respect to all the DEVELOPERS trying to make the ANDROID a living and always changing (most of the times improving) operating system!

Init.d is not working
Hi guys!
Today i found a new bug in this rom.
Init.d is not working. None of the scripts in this folder does not work.
Can you fix it, please?
GApps question
This is working really well so far, but I'm having a ton of trouble getting a Google apps package to actually work with this ROM. Any suggestions? The one originally suggested in the OP does weird things to the ROM.
NEVERMIND. Fixed by flashing using CWM instead of TWRP. For some reason that fixed things immediately.
Ya its working great but couldnt find the right gapp package
I tried to flash this rom. Something went wrong and my fone doesn't start now. How to revert back to my old rom.
I was using G3 Kitkat PORT rom. I downloaded the cm12 rom from the first post. I installed TWRP using Rashr app. I rebooted into TWRP recovery installed this rom. I got some error like "can not read seLinux context " and Flash failed. Now the system doesn't reboot at all.
I have nandroid backup taken using Phils recovery. How can I revert back to it? Please advise.

Multiple issues with this ROM
Hi all!
Firstly, for those experiencing issues flashing gapps, you need to have a version of TWRP that is SELinux compatible. I used 2.8.3.0.
As for the issues I've encountered:
Phone will fail to wake from sleep but will have capacitive buttons lit (I'll wait until this happens again to try to get some meaningful log data)
MMS DOES NOT WORK and in general BREAKS SMS. I'm using Messenger as my sms app, and the JB radio. I have also tried this with Textra and Messaging with similar results.
The camera will cause the system to hard reset. I've noticed this in Snapchat, but not in google's Camera app.
Panaroma and Photo Sphere do not work. No imagery from the camera makes it to the screen. There is only a black rectangle where the imagery should be.
Casting the screen DOES NOT WORK. No chromecasts can be found, though the chromecast app and other enabled apps find and use them just fine.
You must continually remove apps from the recent apps list or else the system will...bog...down........severely.
issue
I have random system lag, it seem to use a lot of ram. I check with clean master, they show the used ram sometime reach 85%, that is strange because I dont open too man things, I only use whatsapp to send mess. I have to reboot to fix this. Switch to Candy5, mako base, and have no issue like this again.
