[Q] Won't boot - white screen with speckles looping - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off I searched the forums and looked at the thread suggestions as I was posting this but nothing is like what I'm experiencing.
I was in the process of using Odin to flash a ROM to my phone. My phone was in download mode but before I could start anything, my wife said she needed the phone. Now I know it said "do not turn off target" but at this point I had done nothing other than enter download mode. I figured I was safe so I unplugged the phone from the PC, tried to restart the phone, anddddd nothing. Black screen.
When I get home from work I try charging the phone. Not even the charging icon appears. I try plugging it into my computer and it IS recognized but the phone only shows a white screen. And then it reboots. White screen again. It keeps doing this. I have tried all kinds of button combinations and taking out the battery/putting it back in. I took a video of my problem but it appears I can't post links where I am a new user. If you would be so kind as to google "youtube geiger9" you should get to the video pretty quickly.
What can I do about this?

I think it's important to note that your phone is a T959P Telus.
Yeah, if you had not tried to odin anything yet it would be safe to unplug
I'm not super familiar with this model but I'll try and offer some help
Will it go into download mode with battery out and then connecting to a charger?
I would try and remove your sd card, sim card (i believe this model has one?) And your battery when connecting up to use odin.
After you have safely made an odin connection you can reinstall your battery
Also, try rebooting your pc with phone usb unplugged,,,
If still fails
try different usb port,,,
If still fails
Try different usb cable,,,

First off thank you for replying.
I tried the steps you suggested but it isn't working. Without the phone plugged in to the computer pushing the vol up/down and power buttons does nothing. I can't seem to enter download mode again no matter what combination of buttons I press.

Yeah It is only supposed to go into download mode by:: if you remove battery and connect to a charger/usb to it,,, or by having battery in and holding volume down while connecting charger/usb

[Q] Kind of a brick question.

Hey everyone.
So the other day I got excited about the CM7. I was following the steps to install it. i made a mistake. after i flashed the kernel. i rebooted my phone now all i get is a screen with picture of phone with a yellow triangle attached to a pc.
The thing i've tried to do was
1.take out the battery
2. take out the sim(which was already taken out to be in my gs4g)
3.took sd card out.
4.plug usb into phone and computer
5.put battery in while hitting the vol +/- minus rocker and nothing happens.i have odin open when I( try this.
my computer just wont pick it up.
when I plug in my gs4g it picks it up right away.
I've spent all weekend working on this.
also i think they only way before hand for me to get into download/recovery was for me to use adb. could that be why I'm not getting any progress?
Thanks in advance. Also sorry if this question has been asked so many times..
Is your problem getting into download mode? Or is it that you get into download mode but Odin won't recognize the device?
If its the former, getting into download mode is a bit tricky in CM7, I've done it plenty of times though. This worked for me.
1. Unplug the usb cord.
2. Pull out the battery.
3. Plug usb cord in.
4. Hold down vol+ & vol- and power button
5. You will see the loading circle or whatever it's called, when the screen goes black let go of power button.
You should be in download mode now. Sometimes you won't get the loading screen and the phone'll just boot up, if so pull the batt and try again.

I've done that many times. I've tried for several hours during the weekend. Also CM7 is not installed yet. was in the middle of installing then this happend.
just open odin and plug your phone in to your pc and see if you get a COM port...if you do then flash it from there..

not getting that at all no com ports show up.. I'm going to try this on a different computer.
When I get the black screen with that icon in the middle and I plug it in, Odin recognizes it right away. Furthermore, I've only gotten it before when I go into download mode(yellow sign + android sweeping) and Odin doesn't recognize my phone and I pull the battery then turn it back on.
Get odin up usb cord connected to the computer but not the phone
Remove the sim card the sd card and the battery and do the vol up and down boot. Then while holding the vol buttons down at the same time plug in the usb.
That should get you back to recovery.
READ the STICKY for NOOBS......... S15274N did a wonderful job of explaining all the methods on how to get into recovery from a soft brick
good luck

I've been trying all of those methods. Before this happened the only way for me to get into download was using adb reboot download command in adb.
The computer does not recognize in odin. I've tired this on two computers now.
I have all the drivers installed. i uninstalled ed reinstalled etc. used two different usb cables etc.
not sure what else to try. other than a baseball bat....
so i looked around and i bought a jig on ebay from skisky1. hopefully it will be here soon . to try this out .

[Q] Can't get to Download Mode - stuck on loading screen

Hi All,
So, I tried to flash Cyanogen mod last night using the instructions here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Vibrant:_Full_Update_Guide. I was coming from a BIONIX ROM that flashed fine.
Anyways, the phone went into a reboot loop in the recovery screen and I foolishly just held the power button until it stopped. When I turned it back on it was broken. That is, now all it does is display the white Vibrant logo in the middle of the screen with the smaller Samsung logo below it. If I hold the power button for about 8 seconds the screen goes black for about 2 seconds and then comes right back up to where it was. I can't seem to even turn the phone off any more. It just stays on that screen permanently unless I hold the power button, in which case the screen is off for 2 out of every 10 seconds. Yanking the battery of course turns it off, but putting it back in immediately returns it to the state I've described.
I've scoured these forums and tried every button press + battery state + cable state + SD card/SIM state combo suggested, but the phone won't go to download or recovery mode. I found one thread describing the exact same problem. The OP said he'd try a jig and then disappeared without any further updates. I'm going to try to get my friend to make a jig using one of these sets of instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
http://factoidz.com/how-to-unbrick-your-samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s/
but until then my questions is: does anyone have any experience with this problem (can't even turn the phone off)? If so, do you have any recommendations? Did a Jig work?
keep trying to get to download mode, pull battery, plug usb in to computer and to the phone, while holding both volume up and volume down pop in the battery. People have tried hundreds of times with it not working and then all of a sudden *bam* download mode.
So... my friend made me a jig and it works in that I can see the shoveling droid indicating download mode. However Heimdall/Odin won't recognize my phone. Heimdall's zadig utility won't locate the phone either, even with the cable plugged in. I'm, once again, stumped.
Just an update; I've tried Odin on three different computers, two Windows 7 (64 bit) and a Mac (with Heimdall). None of them seem to recognize the phone. Device manager on the Windows 7 machine does not update when I plug the phone in (in Download mode via the jig or not) and I can't find anything about Samsung in it anywhere. However I have installed the Samsung drivers; a few different sets I've found around the forums. I've also tried a couple utilities like the Vibrant toolbox and one click unbrick. Nothing seems to have any effect. I was so hopeful when the jig worked and got me to download mode, but now it's seeming I'm actually bricked. Has anyone seen a phone that could get to download mode but still be bricked? Oh, and I checked the cable using a friend's phone; her Mac recognized her phone using the cable. Haven't tried her phone on my Window's machines though.
Once again, any help is more than appreciated.
Have you tried to see if adb is working? If it does then try adb reboot recovery? If it works there is a file I can post for you later (is in my pc) that can restore your sbl.bin and fix your download mode problems.
Thanks for your help everyone, the problem was apparently resolved by a new cable; which is strange because the old one works for data transfers... just not for flashing apaprently. :S

[Q] S2 stuck in ODIN Mode - Not recognized on computers

I had tried to update my phone via Kies and the computer blue screened. Now the phone is stuck on the ODIN Mode screen with a picture of my phone on the left, a yellow triangle in the middle, and a computer on the right. Taking the battery out does nothing, restarting does nothing, restarting while holding down the volume buttons does nothing. No matter what, it always comes back to this screen.
When I plug the device into my windows based PC and open ODIN, ODIN does not see my phone. When I plug it into my linux computer and run lsusb, it does not list my phone in the output, so the computer definitely isn't recognizing that my phone is plugged in. A couple of weeks ago, I had this problem while trying to back up the phone, so I'm not sure if it's related to the botched upgrade or not.
Does anyone have any tips or advice here? I'd really love to be able to use my phone again. I am using the cable that came with the phone. I have the same results with other cables, as well....
I'm happy to provide more information if needed. Just tell me what you need to know.
That screen is a form of download mode. You should be able to flash stock or stock plus root from there.

If this statement reflects what you actually did, then it suggests the wrong order. You must first open oden on the desktop, and then connect the phone to the computer in download mode.
Try that first.
Next you could try putting the phone into download mode with the battery pulled out. Open Odin on the desktop, then with the battery out, hold down the vol- button while plugging in the usb cable.
Thanks for your response.
So I went ahead and cleared out everything and then reinstalled the USB drivers. Opened ODIN, connected USB to computer, took battery out of phone, put battery back in, held down volume buttons and inserted the cord. The screen immediately loaded up the one I spoke of in my first post. Odin still did not recognize that I had my phone plugged in.
So then I installed Kies and went to the firmware restoration item under the tools menu. Entered my model and serial number and put my phone into recovery mode according to the instructions there, but the "Start Upgrade" button was grayed out and never became clickable.
One thing I did notice while doing this (On yet another new computer) is that when I plug in the phone, I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" error in Windows. I'm not sure if this is a result of it being in download mode or not, but I thought it worth mentioning. I did attempt to blow out my mini USB on the phone for good measure, but had the same result, even with another cord.
On ur Windows pc, did u try different usb ports ? And don't use a usb hub.

Yes, multiple ports on multiple PCs.
The port was working fine yesterday when the Kies update failed.
Have u tried using a Jig to get ur phone into download mode ??
(See my signature link below. There r links there on how to make a jig and/or where to buy one)

First of all make sure that your PC isnt running Kies in the background - Use Tsk Manager to kill Kies process
Then Plug In your Phone
Enter Download Mode by holding both volume buttons and powerbutton till the Boot Screen Appears.Let the power button go when you see the boot screen but keep holding the volume buttons.
In no time you'll be in Download mode
Then go to odin and check if your computer recognises it. Odin willl show you (Com:x) X - Any Number
Then you can easily flash stock rom or a custom recovery..

You could order one fairly inexpensive. But order it or make it still takes some time. But as several have mentioned, it may help.
Did you try forcing download mode with the battery out as I suggested in the second post?
Yes, I have tried forcing download mode by taking the battery out, holding down Vol and inserting it again. These are also the instructions that Kies gives, but it didn't work there either.

My phones update failed and I got the same phone, triangle, computer. I tried different USBs, different USB ports, different computers, tried Odin, nothing worked. As soon as I found my USB jig that was lying around, and plugged it in before I put in the battery, and the regular download mode which I am used to seeing showed up. ODIN recognized the phone and I flashed back to stock ICS rooted I downloaded from XDA.

That's different that what I suggested. Remove the battery and leave it out. If you have to, sit on it so you won't be tempted to put it back in, lol. While holding vol down button, plug in the usb cable. The usb will supply the power. The phone should boot into download mode.

I guess I misread that. I blame it on my stressful week ending with no phone
So I just did that and boom, download mode as I would expect loaded up first time, no issues after I held down both Volume buttons while plugging it in (Holding down just Vol - didn't do anything). Unfortunately, it still did not show up in Odin (Kies background processes were all killed and USB driver IS installed on this computer and Odin WAS open before I plugged the phone in)
So I unplugged, opened Kies, and was going to try a restore through there since I could finally get download mode working properly. Except when I tried it this time, nothing happened. I held down the vol buttons, plugged it in, got a single vibrate, but nothing showed up on the screen. Unplugged, put the battery in, and it turned on and screen worked. Took out the battery and just plugged it in and the screen worked after vibrating 6 short pulses (It pulled up the screen mentioned in my first post). Unplugged, held down vol buttons and plugged it in, same thing. Blank screen.
Now I'm really at a loss. I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my USB port on the phone itself.

Hi there,
i have same problem with my Galaxy ACE GT-S5839i: i can't get ODIN to detect my phone. Originally, i tried to flash my phone and made a mistake in the process (installed a ROM before i installed CWM). This caused my phone to stop booting. The only thing remaining working is the download mode. But i can't get ODIN to detect. I tried 2 PCs, different USB ports; i tried to install Kies, or just the drivers... nothing makes ODIN detect my phone... I hear my PCs detects the phone when in download mode (it bips) and my PCs both recognized my phone (Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device). On PC uses windows 7 and the other Windows Vista. I ran ODIN v4.38 on both... Would be grateful for any idea what to do...

I had the same problem with kies on a sprint s2. EXACT same problem. Cord got jerked out in the middle of Odin flash. THE ONLY screen i could get is the one you described.
Also went through the steps with keis, dl firmware, got to the last part but the start button was greyed out. I had to do this several times and finally the start button lit up. Idk why it didn't work before but it finally did. Have you tried doing it more than once?
I wished i could be more help but that was my experience. Maybe it will work for you.

help please!! i777 won't start and I run out of ideas

I have a rooted i777 with SHOstock rom, I haven't updated the rom for a few months so I'm not sure which version it is.
The phone was working yesterday and it suddenly got stuck so I tried to reboot it (had to take out the battery because the power button didn't respond) but now each time I try to turn it on it is stuck on a black screen with the logo "Samsung Galaxy SII" and won't progress.
I tried to boot to recovery but it shows a screen saying "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.7" but it doesn't go pass the screen to show the recovery menu (it just reboots after being stuck on this screen for about a minute).
I tried to boot to download mode and succeeded, but every time I connect the device to my pc, the pc doesn't recognize it
(I tried re-installing kies, but it didn't help and probably the problem is not with the pc drivers because if I connect my wife's unrooted i777 to the pc it does recognize it).
so now I don't have clue what else to try.
any advice will be appreciated.
Make sure you have Odin v1.85 on your Windows PC. Look in the Windows Add/Remove programs dialog (or Uninstall a Program dialog) to see if you have SAMSUNG USB driver for mobile phones.
Open Odin on the desktop. Next put the phone into download mode by holding down vol + and vol - while plugging in the USB cable.
If Odin recognizes your phone, flash back to stock. I would recommend UCMD8 stock firmware, which you can get from the Download Repository.
don't know what happened to it but now it doesn't even turn on.
it's stopped turning on before I had a chance to try what you suggested.
now even if I connect it to the charger it doesn't show the charging status.
is there any other "force something" I can try?

Remove the battery and leave it out. Connect the USB cable to your PC. While holding down the vol- button (also try it with both vol- and vol+) but not the power button, plug the USB cable into the phone. The computer will provide the power. If this works, your phone will go into download mode. If not... you have very likely had some kind of hardware failure.
unfortunately it didn't work.
can't get it to download mode.
I'll try to leave the battery out for a longer time and try again.
should I try ordering a JTAG usb and see if it puts it in download mode or
probably my only option is to send it to mobiletechvideos?
I had the same problem, Your battery got too low. Pull your battery and leave it out for a while 15 mins or so. Put the battery back in and connect charger. Let the battery charge for a while without trying to turn on phone. The phone will not turn on with a dead battery even if it is connected to charger.
I just solved a problem that I didn't find any help with, so I thought I would post it here in case somebody else needs help out of this situation, and this is a recent and related thread.
After I pulled the battery of my i777 to test in another phone, without remembering to power my phone off first, it would only hang at the Samsung boot logo (stock UCMD8 ROM, rooted, stock recovery). Normally the Samsung boot screen shows for only about five seconds. Pulling the battery wouldn't get it to boot right. Holding Power to force a reboot didn't solve it. After clearing the cache it would move to the AT&T Rethink Possible screen once, then reboot and then again get hung on the Samsung logo screen. Also my battery was heating up a lot as it was hung.
I could get into both download mode and recovery. I tried reflashing my ROM from the stock file in ODIN since that would save all of my data IF it worked. This still didn't get it to boot past the first logo. Finally doing a factory reset on stock recovery is what solved my problem. I had to re-add my account and reload apps from scratch, etc.

[Q] Samsung S3 not responding at all!

I have a samsung galaxy s3 i9300! While i was sleeping, i was charging my phone and when i woke up the phone was stuck at the initial logo screen of samsung! Then, i tried to press the home bottom power and volume up bottom to reset while it was doing that it went back again to the logo screen before being able to choose wipe cache and stuff! I tried it several times! Then as i was searching through net i saw that odin thing custom Rom and i thought that maybe i should give it a try! So i tried to installed it by connecting my phone to the laptop but my pc did not identify my phone! Then I tried again by connecting and disconnecting the pc with my phone and while doing so i pushed the button of Repartition at Odin. My phone was not identified so i have no idea if that happened! Now my phone does not even open, or charging! Please tell me if there is a way to make it work again!
It might be of some help to mention that my charger is a new one that i bought from bol.com and its not the original one! I have no idea if that affected somehow the mobile functioning.
No, you are unlikely to fix that. You can try a usb jig, see if download mode will start, but it sounds like partial SDS followed by user panic until it was hard bricked.
If it didnt show in odin you have a driver issue and the repartition wouldn't have happened.
Remove battery, sd and sim. Make sure the battery is charged.
Insert battery and hold home+vol down while pressing power once.
If the screen lights up do not let go of home+vol down until it has entered download mode. If the phone wont light up at this point you have a bigger problem.
Once in download mode install the samsung mobile device drivers on your pc, you might need to try different versions, and plug the phone into the pc's usb on the motherboard. Try to avoid using front mounted or shared ports as they are unreliable. If your phone doesnt interact with your pc try other drivers.
