Ram Universal X-Grip II Tablet Car Mount - Shield Tablet Accessories

So I ordered These two things from Amazon as I wanted my Shield Tablet mounted to my windshield.

I must say I think this is probably the best mount I've ever had. It doesn't shake or move when I hit a bump. I thought maybe the tablet was going to be too heavy but the suction cup is high quality and locks. You'd think having a tablet mounted to your windshield is overkill but it's actually quite nice.

Ok that looks badass.. I just ordered them. I use my Shield for GPS I'm on the road all the time and this mount looks like it can take a beating.
Thanks for posting the link!

I've installed Tasker and now everything is pretty much automated. As soon as it connects to my bluetooth and sensors it's on it's left side, it goes into car mode, disables screen lock and searches for my wifi my phone shares. Really happy with it so far.

Have you received it yet? How do you like it?

I build some for my own. because I don t like it in window.
but now I need a program that show me the radiostations over OBDII..

Only problem is I didn't want my stereo being covered up by having my tablet in front of it. There was enough space between my stereo and climate controls to have the tablet mounted there but I couldn't find any mount that would allow it.

I didn't know they made programs to show radio stations over OBDII... I don't even think the computer knows what the radio is doing, right?

Hey. Is one side for a tablet and if you flip it around the other side is for a phone. Was wondering what the thing were on the other side of the grip tablet holder. This mount has still been performing well?

I was hoping that was a mount for a phone as well but it's so you can open it up easier as it's spring mounted. It' been performing great.

Legos + a little time = Great car mount!

I really wanted to have a nice car mount for the tablet.....So I took out my old Lego Technic blocks and came up with this... I did super glue 4 of the pegs in back that supports the mount onto the car but other than that its all legos holding legos. The post that the whole mount is slipped on top of is and old 7" screen mount I use to have in my car....I think the 10" screen looks better than the 7" ever did!

Pretty cool setup. What program/app is that in your third PIC?
The apps called torque its a obd2 engine ecu reader. You have to but a bluetooth obd2 scanner dongle that plugs into your car, i paid $20 shipped for mine off ebay
Purdy sweet. Did you have to glue the pieces or are they pretty secure without some type of adhesive?
Never mind I guess if I read the post instead of look at the pics I would have answered my own question. duh....
Haha thanks! Its defiantly cheap to make and it also can double as a stand for the gtab when its not in the car as well. The only thing I need to change is to lower the holders on the sides just a bit so I can get to the back button on the right side.

Here's the one I bought. But there are a bunch of diffent ones. Glad you guys like the mount.
Very slick!
If you're running a bluetooth GPS at the same time for navigation, then this is, hands-down, the Ultimate Homebrew Car Gizmo!
See I use the tablet for car info and to run Pandora and than I have my htc inspire in the gauge cluster doing the nav and being a wifi hotspot for the g tab.
Just realized that your gtab has Manchester for the city in the weather app which is where I live. Small world.

As an old logo fan I HAD to look at this based on the title... then saw the in's and out's you created; unreal. TRULY a piece of art. Well done, well played.
...sent from my android tablet
Thanks everyone! It took some time to plan out how to have it hold its self together with out using glue. I will post up my final version of it. After moving around some pieces to gain access to the back button.

I like it already, look forward to the final version! Has your gTablet gone flying on tight corners or hidden speed bumps?
I just bought the gTab on woot and was planning on building a desk mount (I did one out of technic last year for my HD2, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6853719&postcount=367) but wasnt even thinking of these possibilities, and now I want that dongle for my RX8, so thanks man

Tablet car mount - with video!

Finally got the bugger mounted on my 94 mecury sable.
I had to tear out my center console a bit to get at some bolts. I removed the cup holder/coin holder as well as the bottom slide out container with cigarette lighter.
I purchased A ram mount for the base and a ram cradle for the tablet.
Finally got the video up! please check it out and let me know what you think!

Dude, I like that! I think I will go this route. Being able to swivel like that is cool.
Good job, the RAM gear isn't cheap but it's quality.
So how'd the roadtrip work out? Any issues using the phone as a wifi router to update the GPS on the Tablet? I'm looking at doing a similar thing on my scooter...
Some might say distraction, I say a MUCH bigger screen to look at instead of trying to look at a small GPS screen for updates.
Thanks!

wow..really nice..great job and even better job posting videos..
would you mind giving us the pn of the ram mount and cradle?
also does the cradle claw thingy have rubber or something..since its right up against the tablet i'm wondering about scratching the side of it..
thanks for the post.

You can actually just go to the website and it will find it for you but here is the pn's:
Cradle: RAM-234-6
Mount: RAM-B-101U-C
It comes with 4 different types of clips. The ones I am using have rubber covers over them. You don't have to use them, they are optional but obviously, use them. I use two long holders for the bottom and two short on the bottom. but because the cover don't go in all the way on the short grips, I just cut them.
Works great! There is a little play but thats because I move it around a lot. But I love the GPS on it now and music. Although more of a distraction, its worth it
doubt
Hi. I'm a portuguese guy and don't wonderstand very well your apresentation. I have a jeep and due to the ups and downs of walking on the hill, I love the support. I do not understand very well how to assemble it or where to buy the parts I need. If you give me some more tips, thanked immense.

Car Mount (Custom)

After looking around for a while, and not finding anything, I decided to make my own car mount for my transformer. It came out much better than I expected. I will probably remake it a little nicer at some point, but it works very well as it is.
It does block the A/C and volume knob on the radio, but they can be effortlessly reached without moving the tablet from the top and bottom. For audio, I have a bluetooth receiver in my deck, as well as the ability to plug in an 1/8th inch jack as well.
I haven't worked out how I am going to charge it yet, but with 8.5 hours of life, I haven't had a great need for a charger yet.
The material is 1/8 x 1/2 aluminum bar and stainless countersunk screws. Material cost was about $15 from the local hardware store.
The first two pictures are the prototype.

Very nice but you should plastic dip the alu bar for a clean look.
Where can one get plastic dip? That's what I wanted to use, but I couldn't find it at the local hardware store...

Nice clean unobtrusive mount (do not like big clunky looking mounts)
I was also able to find it (Plasti-dip) at Harbor Freight tools, and Lowe's (in the paint section) Home Depot's seem to be a hit or miss
Thanks! I'll see if I can pick up some at HF after class tonight.
If there is one near you, Harbor Freight sells plastic dip.
If not, you can find it in some auto parts stores.

Car Dock to work with Otterbox Defender

I went to Sprint today to get the car dock. Unfortunately, even with it's extra space for a cover it just isn't big enough to accommodate the Defender. Does anyone have a suggestion on a dock that would work?

Check this out spring loaded universal mount
keep on the lookout for slipgrip mounts on ebay, the guy does mounts for a lot of the popular cases. It won't have the dock functionality but it'll hold the device at the least, just connect your own power from the cig lighter

That looks like it would work - I have more chargers and cables so don't need a powered dock. Have you used these before? My only concern is that I drive a Suburban and the windshield is a long way from the front of the dash if I am going to mount it low. I suppose I could mount it up near the mirror though.

Yea i have, i got the vent mount and the bike mount and had they guy ship them separately so i could use just the dock part with my proclip vehicle specific mount.
Here's some pics of the old evo setup, the bracket that goes in the dash is from proclip, i just made some small modifications and screwed the mount on to the ball joint that then screws in to the bracket. I ran a second lighter socket to the 5v source behind the original sig lighter, plugged a belkin microusb charger in there and ran the wire out. I also ran a 3.5mm from the line in behind the HU to right near the mount. Its a lot neater now than it is in the pictures as i've ran the wires again but you get the idea.

Looks good. I just need to figure out how I want to put it all together so that it isn't too crazy with wires everywhere.

Armband?

I just got the Nexus 6 as a replacement for a defective device. Long story, it's not a size I would have chosen, but I'm falling in love with this beast against my will.
I'm not a large person, but I'm pretty active. Obviously my old jogging armband doesn't work with the 6. Has anyone found one that will? Ideally with the case on it? I have this case on it. It's a PITB to get off.
Thanks for any advice you have.
I have this one I got from Amazon.
I like it a lot, but you won't be able to use your case with it.

I have a little fabric armband that a friend gave me the other day. It's actually for a iPhone 6+ so the headphone jack hole is at the bottom. No biggie I can flip the phone upside down in the case. It stays in there fine. I used it for the first time today to work out. Um.. well during one arm rows whenever I'd pull up the weight the volume would go down. At one point I'd somehow booted into the bootloader screen. It was insane. I couldn't help but laugh at myself. I almost hardcore factory reset my phone while working out with just my left bicep.
Moral of the story? Try to find an armband that is made for this phone. I'm sure I can use the armband my friend gave me for running but nothing else. For those wondering this is the armband. I hope I can post this link.

I have the supcase armband as well. Have had it for several weeks and gone on several runs with it. It holds great and you can actually remove the band from it and use it as a case as well. My only complaint, which I don't know if you would even call it a complaint is that the velcro on the armband holds REALLY well. To the point where it is a little bit of a struggle to pull it loose.
Thank you all very much!
