Stuck in Stock Recovery - Asus Padfone X and S

Okay so i really screwed up a few days ago. i was trying to install the new L keyboard and i had to change permissions and i changed permissions on one of the system folders where the keyboard is and that crashed the system. The phone wouldnt boot correctly and i was stuck in stock recovery. I then did a factory reset and now i am stuck in recovery and cannot do anything. Is there any way i can load a factory image or does anyone know if i can get out of this pickle? please be easy...

dibblebill's thread may help. Note that this means you'd be replacing the stock recovery with TWRP, but that will allow you to flash the full factory image.

Please read the other threads around here on TWRP. It can be a less-than-straightforward install, but it'll get you there. Good luck and keep us posted!

I feel that i may need to do a RMA at this point because i cannot boot a custom recovery because of restrictions on the phone.

Problem flashing TWRP

Bought a stock HTC one M8 second hand the other day..
Still locked and doesn't appear to be tampered with at all. Worked fine for a couple of days but then got a notification saying I needed to restart the phone to install "lock screen updates". Pressed restart, now I'm stuck in a boot loop :/
I've looked up what to do and it appears that I need to flash the stock rom, I've unlocked the phone and am attempting to flash TWRP, it installs fine but when I boot into recovery it starts loading TWRP, with eh HTC logo with writing over it, it then returns to the boot loop, not getting into TWRP :/
Not sure why this is, please help!

My unlocked, S-OFF M8 did the same thing. I had to back down to TWRP 2.8.1.0 before I could boot into recovery. Tried them all starting with the newest but couldn't get them to flash correctly.
*** Found out I had to update my firmware prior to installing the newer version of TWRP.
You might need to revert back to older versions of TWRP to accomplish your goal.

Thanks I'll have a go now and let you know how it goes.
Just tried all the available versions of TWRP, they all went into a boot loop :/
Is it worth turning S off?
The only guide i've found for s-off says you need to do a WIPE with TWRP and then flash an "insertCoin ROM', would this be possible using fastboot?
Thankyou in advance

Sunshine (http://theroot.ninja/) is the best available S-OFF option available. But, you have to be running and have a 'near stock ROM' for it to work. I'm going to have to wait and let someone with a lot more experience than I have help you out. Good luck.

Did you fastboot twrp ? An you r sure your using the twrp for your phone?
Fastboot erase cache
Then install TWRP again by fastboot

[Q] Unable to boot on TWRP

My Moto E Hangs when I try to boot a TWRP image
Attempted procedure:
(After booting into stock fastboot)
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-2.7.1.0-condor.img
A reboot to that TWRP was expected instead. But it freezes on bootloader.
TWRP used on the attempt:
dl.twrp.me/condor/twrp-2.7.1.0-condor.img.html
I don't want to flash a different recovery or anything else, just a clean root.

Sometimes booting recovery doesn't work...You will have to flash it. Perhaps you can flash the stock recovery after successful root? though i am not sure that will work
Also try booting into CWM
Tried the same method with CWM.img
Same result: fastboot frozen (volume buttons not responsive, and PC no longer sends commands)
To flash the stock recovery I would need to back it up first
But guess what's needed to backup ?
Yes, a temporary flashed bootloader with ZIP support
Would you know someone, who knows someone, who knows an master from MTI or Hogwarts or Narnia that knows an alternative ?
I would flash a mod right away if I could backup the original first...
(Unless, as I don't know exactly how this works, the ROM might come with the bootloader (?) Because the stock ROM I can download easily anywhere (already did))

Hi,
Did you managed it to work? I have exactly the same problem. If I even flash twrp or cwm I still can't boot into it, there is only "no command" message.
I can't get any help anywhere, it makes me crazy. Do you have any custom recovery that worked for you after flashing?? I'm even starting to think that my device is broken somehow.

I did NOT flash the recovery yet
I'm trying to run the recovery without flashing it, to avoid problems like yours
You said you flashed both CWM and TWRP ?
And Neither one of them worked ?
I'm screwed too, then...
:crying:
See if you can find the stock recovery somewhere
And NOT here
This forum is not good for it
It's too much phone specific... too narrow... and we get no attention; specially with our "not-mainstream" phone
Generic instruction could work
If you take any action, or find any forum you find helpful, let me know
@giaur @LucasBS1
I too have tried booting the recovery ,but it doesn't work. You will have to flash it
if you are seeing 'no command' message it means that you still have stock recovery and the custom recovery wasn't flashed successfully.

None of them worked. I'm going to resign, because there is nothing I can do. Seems you have exactly the same problem as me. What I tried:
- fastboot boot recovery.img. Phone hangs on bootlogo
- flash recovery, then use go to recovery option in fastboot menu. In this case, 2 possibilities: with usb cable connected, it boots normally to system, not to recovery. With usb cable disconnected, screen goes black and phone looks like powered off. You will need to power it on and it will boot to system.
- On running system with usb debugging enabled. If you type "adb reboot recovery", you will end with dead robot and "no command" error. You can however press VolUP +Power on this screen and you will see Android 3e recovery.
If you have the same problem as me, you are completly lost and it's impossible to intall recovery on your device. I'm close to resign and say "**** this ****ty phone" because (as you already mentioned), there is no any attention on my questions, twrp support was dropped long time ago etc.
Flashing recovery should not wipe your data, so once you try to flash twrp or cwm, please let me know about your results. I'm sure I will never able to solve this problem, but I will feel better knowing that I'm not alone whit it

Still the same, I'm on stock recovery. In console, no errors:
Code:
[email protected]:~/android/DO_MOTOROLI/twrp/2.8.5$ fastboot flash recovery twrp2.8.5.0-recovery.img
target reported max download size of 299892736 bytes
sending 'recovery' (9046 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.312s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.860s]
finished. total time: 1.172s
But "adb reboot recovery" - "No command". Damn it...

Ok, I'm finished. It's not possible. F U C K Motorola and good night. My advice: don't waste your time if you have the same problem. You will get nothing, except wasted time. It's good that it's not my phone (I own OnePlus One). But I was asked to install CM12.1 on my friend's phone. It's impossible, so I will need to tell him I was failed with that.

I see people complaining about bugs or not-working features on the first link
Are you sure it's safe ?
It's not the official TWRP (apparently)
When I google for this bootloader the official page shows version 2.7.1.0
Whereas on your second link they are on the 2.8.2.0
Which one should I trust ?
And to anyone who might answer:
Trough PC is the only/safest way to flash these recoveries ?
Seeing giaur on that situation puts me stepping back...

I tested both: latest official 2.7 and linked 2.8. So they are safe. Official support for Moto E was dropped long time ago.

Cool
Regarding to safety
Should I flash CWM or TWRP ? Why ?
Regarding the method
Flash through usb->Fastboot or through Apk (like CWM)
Or a third method ?
And why
Between TWRP 2.7 and 2.8, which one is safer ?
And of course...why ?
And a last question, before I leave you guys alone:
Did you manage to root the phone, despite the poblems occurring to you, giaur ?
Once you succesfuly flash twrp, you need to flash supersu then and you are rooted. If you don't have your current system rooted, the only way to flash custom recovery is to flash via fastboot. TWRP is recommended, because it's way better
I can't say anything more, because my moto e is not flashable, so I can't replace stock recovery.
Yo !
Flashed TWRP
But wiped things I shouldnt
How to put the ROM back via USB ?
EDIT:
NEVERMIND
Found how to use SD to do that

I was also struggling a lot many days into getting twrp and cw loaded on to a Moto E. The problem was that I was pressing the Power button to activate the recovery menu and that will not activate the recovery option. You got to press the UP button instead of power after executing
Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery twrp-2.8.1.0-condor.img
. This is quite counter intuitive but described well in most posts, but as experts we assume up button is to go up the menu.

how to root doogee bl12000 pro

as stated above, i can't seems to find a workable root method for this device. i've already tried kingroot, kingoroot, and some unknown website that claimed have solution to root this device and make my phone restart and restart and restart.. luckily, my phone still can be saved.
im now at dead end. can someone help me how to root this device, and a clear tutorial since, im not good with android system..
thanks..
bump
while waiting for someone to come out with help. I've found a website which have "unofficial" twrp.
https://unofficialtwrp.com/doogee-bl12000-pro/
I want a comfirmation if this site is trustworthy.
I've tried flash the twrp into my phone but it keep booting at recovery and can't boot into system.
I'm flashing using CMD like this:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot boot recovery.img

and what the function of "fastboot flashing unlock"?
I'm thinking of using magisk to root my phone but I don't know what "stock boot image dump".
bump
seems that https://unofficialtwrp.com/doogee-bl12000-pro/ really work, but for my case, it's required me to decrypt password, while im not had any password.
after many times of rooting effort, it success. for those who have problem that occur to me:- BOOTLOOP at RECOVERY and RECOVERY can't read SDCARD or STORAGE
1. Root your phone using the twrp above
2. if bootloop to recovery, make sure you have sdcard and have supersu flash file inside it.
3. in twrp, go to wipe. and then format factory
4. go to mount and choose media sdcard
5. at the homescreen, go to install and then flash the supersu flash file.
6. done

in my case my phone gained root permission, but lose twrp recovery. i don't really know about phone, so i hope someone can add something to make this clear to who's that read.
my goal is to root, so without having twrp doesn't concern me much.
well.. my mistake.. the TWRP is there. i dindt realize it.
hello
Please help me
I mistakenly gave the recovery TRWP model 12000 to the phone
And now the phone is turned on and off
What should I do to be right?
please somebody help me

Question Anyone has stock recovery.img for nord 2 DN2101 for OS version DN2101_11_A.11?

I am stuck with unlocked bootloader and not able to lock it back. When I do, I see the "destroyed boot/recovery image" error screen.
Though I have stock boot.img, I don't have the stock recovery.img. Or both should help, just to be sure!
If anyone has it saved, please share, I would like to try locking it again.

Thanks for replying!
I did that today. It wasn't happening, it was failing with error - boot partition has expected contents.
Did a lot of erase and restores of partitions from rom backup with TWRP. Finally got through it somehow and it got installed with System Updates feature.
Now that it is flashed, can I simply try fastboot flashing lock and it will go through?
Not willing to spend too much time with trying it as it might wipe data (not sure of it though), hence asking here.
Or will it result into "destroyed boot/recovery image"?

Then go ahead though it's got currpted (one person faced that at insta but he used that commnads when he has twrp it must work with stock recovery) but after restoring boot imgae all was fine.
But try at u r own risk later don't tag [email protected] pankspoo - guide

Wait u want to relock bootloader?
You need a otg adapter. Put Stock boot.img and the last ota update file to the usb storage.
flash stock boot.img via FKM
go to developer settings and lock oem
uninstall magisk with restore all (not image)
start phone in bootloader
fastboot flash relock
fastboot reboot recovery
select update from storage
use otg adapter with ota file
install
restart
done

Question FIRST ATTEMPT [ROOT]OP PLUS NORD N200 METRO

So Ive never thought about or had anyone around me ever talk about android developers or enthusiasts or whatever it is... the past few years I ran into quite a few issues that ive needed root.. so I tried researching and trying to learn and well.. i should of maybe hopped on here before i did the actual attempt... SO heres my **** up!
I unlocked my bootloader... then followed a guide and I had tried flashing a img without flashing twrp and magisk and so now I figured out how to boot into recovery, twrp... and flashed magisk and then I tried installing no verity opt encrypt 6.1 and it states failed then i started moving around through twrp and tried mounting data and it will not even highlight the data checkbox and wont let me repair the data under the wipe command and wont let me change it to any of the extensions? no os found it says it wont let me format userdata says this.
fastboot: error; cannot generate image for userdata
please if you can help me out... any help would be greatly appreciated and would be lifesaving... thx
I am new to trying out this kind of stuff i believe i flashed possibly the wrong boot img! before I had flashed twrp and well i was stuck in fastboot.. but managed to get twrp and then flashed magisk and tried flashing no verity opt encryption but it will not flash I'm unable to mount the checkbox data in mount It wont even highlight the checkbox... i go to try to wipe some partitions and the only one it lets me wipe is metadata... I've tried format and It said failed to generate userdata partition and then i = tried fastboot erase userdata it worked tried erase/format cache it didn't work so any help at this would be greatly appreciated... thanks for your time
Re-flash phone's Stock ROM to get rid off of all modifications you applied so far.
so just download original stock rom to my computer into the file that holds adb and fastboot and then flash it and then reboot and it should work?
You shouldn't post duplicate threads.. I noticed you already had one the same day a few hours earlier for the same thing.. You might want to read the rules before posting to avoid any issues.
@Learnitright Hello, as mentioned above, please do not make duplicate threads with same topic. All replies from other users can be on this thread.
I have merged another thread by you into this one. Thanks.
I am sorry i wasnt sure if the first one went through or not I am stuck with a slow computer isnt very good im just trying to fix my phone.. If anyone could help?
You need stock-ROM and msm-tool, sadly metro version stock-ROM might not available for public right now. You should have used
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-n200.img
instead of flash recovery.
