New Kernel Development! New features we all would like. - Verizon LG G3

With the release of the bump website imminent many New Kernels are being developed. I just wanted to create a thread where we can focus on Kernel discussion. We can talk about requests and features we want added. We can talk about removal of screen sharpeneing. There is a lot on the Horizon with this phone and I'm super excited for development.

Delete . I posted on the wrong thread.

I'm slightly confused.

Maybe he is saying he misses those and would like a developer to look into adding them back in randomly ?
We are Android, we are diverse !

lol That was great. If anybody spots this thread in the wild and is testing for an aosp Rom. I'd like to ask if they've corrected screen sharpening? It's a pretty annoying feature.

Dunno if it's related to kernels or not, but I'd really like a permanent fix for the voicemail notification issue. I've tried most the solutions floating around here, but nothing seems to stick.

Closest thing to MIUI...

I'm looking for a rom that is similar to the Look of MIUI (obviously nothing will be very similar) but maybe something resembles it in some ways. I've recognized that there are 2 tpos of roms, the ones that follow the generic, gingerbread frame, or ICS frame (aokp, unamed, phonebricker, ICSrewed, CM7/9 etc.) and then MIUI, who kinda does their own design. I've been partial to MIUI ever since I laid my hands on it.
Reason why I'm asking for a look-a-like is because I've been running the scottish one for some time (1.11.9) but she's had the no service bug issue for some time now where everytime I attempt to make a call, 80% of the time it'll lose service and it takes like 4 tries or so till my call goes through. Unacceptable. Yet I can't keep myself away from the build. It's just so speedy. Wish I could have a more recent build for my I777 but I can't find one anywhere. I've also tried a million builds for the regular MIUI, 2.2.3 V2 being the most recent one I could find (I believe that's the most recent? I literally searched for hours), but this build also has the same call service drop bug. Can't stand it.
Can anyone help with my situation? Currently running MIUI V4 ICS, and it's sweet and all but it's wrecking my brain with how slow it isss . Anything similar to MIUI or help with a fix or newer version. Mucho appreciated!!!
Btw I'm no noob to flashing, have flashed at least 20 different roms and all, just wondering if there is anything I missed...in terms of what I'm looking for. Cus I hate settling.

Yeah I'm really looking for more than just a launcher though. I'm already aware of the creation of MIUI launcher and that's sweet but it doesn't encompass settings themes and notification draw down etc. I'm not super picky about that but I'd prefer everything to be uniform...so not gonna go with that method.
LewaOS is something i I'd call pretty similar to MIUI. Lilchris has a post of it in ported section.

Duddeeeeeeeeee. Just went back through it and found AdyScorpius' version of MIUI. I'd gone through that before but I guess I missed this version. If it's anything like Galnet I'm gonna be soooooo happy. I'm gonna flash it now!! So excited hahah. I'm a speed freak, need my lag free interface, otherwise I get annoyed >.>
Thanks bro! Hope this rom isn't bug ridden. Seems very illegitimately put together, but all the people commend it! We'll see.

Hahah idk, I was reading up on all these bugs that I haven't really heard of in the general MIUI builds. I'm using it though and it's snappy pappy. Except going back from a conversation message, to just the conversation list. It reverts quickly, but the text doesn't load as quick as the transition. Annoyanceeeee lol. Idc though...sorta. Is good though. Is real good. Wondering if it's worth bumpin up to ICS V4 cus I didn't realize RIUI and AdyScorp were making roms like this. Trying to decide whether upgrading is worth the stupid notification swipe or not. So annoying.

MIUI sucks because it is so slow and in development. The only thing that is great about it is it's interconnected community and even app. Which is all JUST SHOW if you know how to flash your own ROMs.
If you want speed, battery, and best overall flawlessness I suggest: shostock!

I have nothing against all the Samsung Touchwiz based Roms. I just plain don't like em. I have two things that I need personally, and that is speed, and an appealing look/design. Although CM7/CM9 can have a...functional/sophisticated look to them, they aren't quite as unique and sophisticated as the MIUI themes. Namely, CM is all very square and proper, while MIUI seems to be a little more accommodating if you will. I like to speed through things, and I'm particular about the way I do things. For example: when texting someone I like to send a text, then go back to the conversation list, so that when I get a new text I can see who it was from. I used UnNamed rom for a little bit (a month maybe) - and also tried ShoStock because I'd heard a lot about that too. I flashed it, but it basically seemed to be the same thing. Anyway when using unnamed there was obvious lag interface between the message system when I'd press back twice really quick after sending a text (once to close keyboard, once to close keyboard, another to go back to conversation list). MIUI is more smooth in it's transition and seems to have not necesarilly more poignant scirpting but mayhaps faster. I like MIUI's notification bar and status bar. I like how the notifications have a page and I can click my wifi, data, airplane mode, gps, rotation, and brightness all on the same page, without having to swipe left or right to find more. Mostly I'm a fan of the themes of course, since they simply look awesome. If you care so much move to AOKP, it's better than any Samsung Touchwiz Rom I've ever used, for that type of person. I love AOKP, but I can't seem to stand the crude looking toggles/switches, and the damn launcer (all 3 of them). I find app drawers to be very unnecessary (my own personal opinion - plenty of interpretations there). But I'm willing to further discuss this if you want haha. No mean to be insulting but you basically started the engagement

[Community]A call to arms, well devices....

The Goal
To bring a new standard to the android platform, destroy, improve, rebuild. also, to put aside our egos and opinions and to work together as a community. if you dont like it you can always not use it!
>The journey, I my self will say if you just want the end product please leave this isnt the place. this is here to teach not to give.
Planned features
>Implement WebOS, FFOS or B2G in the the android platform. this is not another rom. it's a new firmware.
>Better multitasking, or true multitasking
>better handling of how the framework corresponding with the system. e.g. caching commonly used thing's for better load time over a crappy connection.
> a patch method so this can be merged with other UI's.
!Want to help?!?!
granted you may doubt yourself, dont just dont. anyone is free to contribute suggest etc. to make things easy here's a template. if you suggest something and it is not in this type of format, sorry it'll be ignored.
:UI
:System
:Hardware/software (E.g Lefty Mode. swapping the buttons layout to fit those who are left handed)
Ideas so far
MIUI theme chooser, say what you will it's a large customization option.
A new UI concept. if you have ideas just copy paste the format and add what you think is good/

thread gathered information
Web OS features, such as?
Social intragration into the android platform, e.g. Facebook, twitter G+ the mobile websites of these perform better than the apps, if we string some apis together for pictures sharing/posting and just load a webpage event in the "Social app" e.g. web.event.load="m.facebook.com" and share.event.activity.camera.post"userdefined_image _id"
suits vs folders string app categories together such as phone, mms, IM. tools calc, gps maps so on so forth. most likely will be a default.xml listing to categorize these into the proper groups. gapps wont be included cause the rom will be AOSP so im thinking calling external apks in a nice defined layout with gesture controls to switch
Focal points
Statusbar, I think It should do more. it's accessed from most apps and important things should go there, not just notifications. a simple mms grid layout with input for mobile number and text input also a list of unread messages. this could also push over to im services.
launcher: the dockbar should be optional imo, im thinking just have the all apps list in a corner with along press the dock pops out, also scroll able. so not just 5 apps sit there (some people dont like having apps on screen.
widgets: yea they're a thing to consider. as for the sense on other launchers, itd be easier to make widgets that look like it than integrate the actual ones
configuration. I think a major lacking point of android is user mapping for key's, why dont we have a leftie option? we all arent right handed. ill keep things in the thread as is so others can express there thoughts and add to this op will be updated later tonight.

CM 10.2 is Cool!!
I am sort of new to this... let me know if you want more information...
I did a quick test, Flashed with TWRP... did not load google apps.
Here is what I found:
- seemed surprisingly stable.
- No LTE, but HSDPA/HSPA works fine. Signal was weak and H to H+ to 4G switching seemed to happen alot.
- SMS worked
- placed calls, but not really useful due to the known audio issue.
- MP3 played great with Apollo
- Torch app crashed (LED comes on then app dies in less than a second)
- Status area circle was constantly spinning... not sure why it is there or what it means I think it is the battery indicator
-- Reboot and Loaded Google Apps from recovery.
- Status area circle no longer spinning
- Google Apps all seem to work fine.
- Downloaded MX Player and watched MP4... no issues.
Not sure about battery life... sucked it down from 65% to 45% in an hour and a half of constant use.
Actually quite nice... if you can get past the whole not able to make phone calls thing.
Hey Lloir, I was just wondering if the calls issue might be attributed in the kernel source, possibly a line of code left out. Like the words "Internal Mic" or something to that nature.. I was looking around the other day and saw a line somewhere, I'll ha e to screen shot it so you can see where I'm talking about. I'll try to get to post that later.

Obviously, I'm not sure, would this have anything to do with the lack of audio on lines 20-22:
# Audio
BOARD_USES_GENERIC_AUDIO := false
BOARD_USES_ALSA_AUDIO := false
If not there, there has to be a in library specifically for calls that has the same basic fork like here on

i love people like you, not 100% sure what XYZ is, but still willing to help and give some fresh eyes on this! don't stop
the #Audio lines, have been tested while set to true, BUT it can't hurt for me to reset them to true, while using the now correct audio blobs.
right now i'am looking for an alternative way to get the incall audio stuff going.
The only way it's going to work is if i'am able to use ALL of the audio files for it and none from the Inter X+ or the Inter HOX
and it's not going to work < 4.3 due to the above issue, and due to the audio files not being 4.2+ they don't exactly work properly on 4.3 either..... so i'm busy working on this and hoping HTC do release a sense5 rom for you guys... no this doesn't mean i'm taking a rest, i'am STILL going to be looking for ways to get this damned thing going....if anyone want's to help that would be EPIC *hint hint*

I can't believe no one is jacked about this. So many users have hung on to KK for the customization that comes with it and hasn't been there with L. I did for a while. Something like xposed developed for Lollipop is the best of both worlds.
Unless there's another conversation happening somewhere else, I can't imagine why there's not more excitement.

Let's hope it works well, gets lots of support, and comes (relatively) soon! This could potentially solve a lot of my complaints with Lollipop.
Real cool
.. Thanks for posting

I communicated with the developer of the app and it is almost out of beta testings and they will publish it soon. Currently there is no thread on that on XDA but they will make one as soon as it is ready...
Yummi... waiting for a moment
Hell yeah!
FYI @rovo89 is also more than likely will be updating xposed to lollipop

Yeah, I heard about the upcoming exposed framework for Lollipop very soon after starting this thread. I would guess that would squash this development, given the popularity of xposed. A simple thing I miss is the forced scroll mod. Getting through a long list like the main page of XDA is a pain without it.
anyone got this working on stock rom?
I've been holding off myself due to not being able to customize how I'd like to. Can't wait for either to drop!

V10 dead

Hey guys, legitimate question here. It seems that there is no development being done for this and other of the 2015 flagships. Am I missing something?
Imo phone is solid out of the box. I have a 6p to mess around with.

What "development" do you expect? With Xposed and a plethora of modules, there really is no need for specialized custom ROMs. All you need is a rock-solid base and off you go. You can even theme everything in the phone with the LG Apps Theme Engine.

Cyanogenmod to start. Tbh I hate that response. That isn't helpful. It isn't just the V10. I have a GS6E+ as well. There is nothing on that front. I

Then go ask the Cyanogen devs to support the V10. Complaining here accomplishes exactly nothing.

Where in that is exactly ... "complaining"? I asked a legitimate question. Seems that you are complaining about the question I asked.

I used hyperbole. The fact remains that reaching out to devs directly will have far more effect than posting threads here.
It's not like they'll magically swoop in here and say "Oh guys, so sorry we haven't made anything for your phone yet, we'll get right on it!"
If you want to see action, post on Cyanogen's forum, open a github issue, or PM/mention devs who developed for LG phones in the past to see what their opinion is.
I can understand wanting to flash ROMs and such, it can definitely be fun, and it's good to have alternatives. But maybe i'm getting old, but i'm a bit tired of it nowadays: the bootloops, certain things not working, having to start over, the time wasted, missing phone calls from your girlfriend because you bootlooped and are constantly booted in recovery lmao. I think OEMs have come a long way since the early days of Android, so i'm usually good with rooted stock now, or a deodexed version. This phone already runs pretty great out of the box, so maybe try and enjoy it as it was made to be. And for sure with the Tmo model rootable, there's xposed, tweakbox, etc. But i definitely understand, OP, even flagship phones don't necessarily have as many custom ROMs as they used to.
The V10 is an awesome phone... But specialty development (cyanogen mod, AOSP) is going off a bit... First off development doesn't just happen... This is a brand new phone model, and although it uses a lot of the G4's hardware, there are a lot of differences, second screen being the biggest, also, t-mobiles version is currently the only one world wide with root access. Further hurting our chances. As for other flagship models, carriers and manufacturers, have been making it harder to root and modify phones... Which has been scaring development away... (why buy a phone you may never be able to modify?) if you want phones with a ton of options for development, I suggest you stick to either nexus devices, and /or something similar to the S series phones... That gets a ton of development... Plain and simple, T-Mobile is the only carrier on earth that doesn't care what you do to your phone. And from a development standpoint, this phone has only been out a little over 2 months, and currently has one model world wide with root access so unless someone Crack the bootloader on other models, or systemless root access becomes a reality with marshmallow, it's probably going to be a slow go... If you really want CM on your V10, (not sure why when you can strip this down to bare bones) you could build us all a rom... Seeing as you believe it's so easy...

Thank you @ZDeuce2 and @YrrchSebor for telling it like it is. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Plus I'd say nowadays in many cases, you lose more than you gain by erasing the software that skilled professionals have developed for your phone. Like you said, those guys good lol. Maybe carriers and/or other corporate/financial concerns might dumb things down or limit features, but root can be plenty enough to open things up for savvy users.

I agree. Outside of Nexus devices I found that Cyanogen has never had proper quality control and the maintainers do whatever they want. Random things are constantly broken and are never acknowledged or fixed. You never know whether a new nightly would fix things or just break things more, even if you followed the commit logs. It's certainly more of an enthusiast's endeavor rather than a rock-solid daily driver OS.
Then there is the garbage camera image quality on non-Nexus phones - the proprietary image processing libraries and other stuff from stock ROMs are just unrivaled and Cyanogen has never been able to match stock camera quality.
I found that especially in the last year or so, stock ROMs have really become robust and polished and I simply do not need to flash Cyanogen anymore to "unsuck" my phone. Root and Xposed are enough to clean up and customize the stock ROM the way I like it and make my phone perfect.

Only thing I would love to see is layers support added, then we would truly have a beast on our hands...

It doesn't work yet? There's a thread on it, so I tried it and it did theme some stuff, but maybe it isn't fully working? Plus I could swear that my system update center broke after using the Inverted UI module

It needs in rom support, which we don't have yet, to fully work completely. Probably why it seems like it broke stuff...

If I knew how to build, and had a computer that wasn't a Commodore 64, I'd give it a shot, but as slow as my comps are we'll have well have Android Orange Cremesicle before it finishes building...

LOL! Well, if I knew how to code, I could do it, but I don't... so yeah. Unless adding the support is simpler than recoding a bunch of APKs?
While more development is always great, I'm very happy with debloated and deodexed stock-based ROMs for the V10. @siraltus has done good work, and that's really all I need, the ability to root, run Xposed and be free from bloatware. I'm sort of over Cyanogenmod in terms of actually flashing it myself. The importance of CM in the history of Android can't be overstated, but for a device with such specialized hardware as the V10 (secondary display, DAC/Amp, etc.), I don't think CM would ever be as good as a stock-based ROM.
I even prefer a stock theme nowadays.... At least it's consistent throughout the system, and I know I'll be able to read any and all text on my phone lol.

Nothing like a random white text on white background screen and you have no idea what it says... LOL.
