[SOURCES][DEVONLY] Openrecovery TWRP 2.8 (EXYNOS/SIM card version) - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Alpha (EU) and started to create a recovery. It doesn't fully work yet but we will get there ...
You can get the sources here: http://git.cryptomilk.org/projects/android/android_device_samsung_slte.git/

My phone arrived and I got the recovery working. Looks like some features aren't working yet. I need to dive deeper and get the kernel compiled.

you can try by replacing libdvm.so to libart.so in /data/property/persist.sys.dalvik.vm.lib
the adb command for should be: adb shell 'echo libart.so >/data/property/persist.sys.dalvik.vm.lib'
i would like to remind you that ART and exposed are not compatible. i also read that samsung's touch wiz will crash or cause bootloop with ART. you can do a backup and try ART. in case you have bootloop just restore, install another launcher, unistall touch wiz and you should be fine
in case you will try, please report back and let us know how it went.

I was able to fix the kernel to build it with the CM toolchain. Next step is using a built kernel. After that it is time to start with CM.

you dude building kernal also, will it work with TW roms or only for CM

The plan is to get it first working with the TWRP recovery. The rooting stuff should be disabled. And I need adb working on the recovery. Currently you can't get a 'adb shell' on the recovery.

I ran into several issues building the kernel. A lot of fixes are needed, especially for a out of source build. The CM toolchain is old which is also an issue. But the biggest problem is that the dts files are missing to build the Device Tree ...

i think it's a serious issue since CM officially don't support Exynos platform anymore. they say it's about Samsung Knox but i'm sure there are other things in the play.
if your aim is to build a kernel for our devices i think it's much better to have an awesome kernel for stock rom first and leave some time to see how things develop in CM community with regards to Exynos

This was just of issues with Exynos 4, see https://plus.google.com/+CyanogenMod/posts/2a8SiSZpxPn

I've sent a mail to the Samsung using their form on the opensource website. Lets see if they will release new Kernel sources.

I finally got the kernel built in the CM tree and it works using the stock dtb file. Now I need to fix adb/mtp.

In the meantime mtp is correctly starting up after fixing the init system. Parsing /proc/cpuinfo failed cause the buffer was to small for a octa core. adb still doesn't start. I will try tomorrow or on the weekend...

As you may or may not be aware, I have been working on get CWM Recovery working on the Gen9's and basically make the layout of the Filesystems etc reflect some sort of Android Standard, In SDE mode at least. This is coming along nicely and I should be ready to kick out a Early Beta in the Next Couple of Weeks.
I would like to gather some input on any additional options people who like to see in CWM, Basically CWM Recovery Comes with a standard set of features but they maybe options that you have found useful on Device's you have had in the past etc.
I already plan to make it possible to boot into all modes on the device, that Archos Recovery, Archos Android, SDE Android and SDE CWM Recovery.
So Yeah, Give me Ideas and I'll seen If I can accomadate them
NOTE: Obviously We are just getting started on this and alternative recoveries will come in time, TWRP for example but one thing at a time eh :good:
Okay, Here's a currently "wishlist" of feature I think would be quite useful
Archos Specific Features
Include Stock Repair and Recovery Options
Include Stock Developer Edition Options
Reboot to Stock Recovery Option as a Fail Safe.
Reboot Stock Android
Flash Archos aos update
Upgrade Existing SDE Images to new structure
An the list goes on.....
Print system Properties
Print dmesg
Resize Partitions
Manage FS Image Location ( mainly nice to have on HDD Version I suppose )
Backup to Sparse Image ( I'm sure CWM5 Nandroid did this with ext4 partitions, god knows why they changed to a default choice between tar archives or dup differential blobs, What If I just a single portable file for my data partition backup!! )
Start Fastboot support ( could be useful for flash images rather the 'ffing around with edify scripts and update zips )
Power Off ( Suprisingly not include by default )
Full Touch Support with on screen keyboard and command line
I think those features will do nicely but If anyone has anymore then get involved!
The nandroid backup interests me a lot... its always nice to be able to "return" to when it was working if anything breaks.
Im watching this thread with interest good luck!!
TrOjAn
Maybe an ability to mount the whole system through usb? So one could DD clone the whole memory chip to PC. That could recover some bricks.

I'm not sure if this would be actually usefull for flash partitions (one-time update.zip flashing should be enough)

Hi There,
I think, You've got your wires crossed None of this is related to letama CWM Recovery./ If you haven't already you may want to have a read of this thread in the development section I won't go into details here because It's all in there!
I well aware of how fastboot works but to supporting the fastboot protovol allows the same workflow when it come to work with the AOSP source as any over device. which is
Build Rom
Flash the Partitions with fastboot
Reboot Into Rom.
???
Profit
When you control both ends of the conversation, We are free to do as we please.
Any news ... are there any files to do some testing?

if all goes to plan this will be an official omni rom, and inb4 cyanogenmod questions...yes i'll apply fixes to cyanogenmod too.
Going to upload a second build shortly with ALL the security fixes in, which should have been applied ages ago, which are missing from Cyanogenmod and all the rom's which use this kernel.

if you want superuser you'll need to flash it between each rom flash, i need to get TWRP sorted for the X+ so you guys can queue up the superuser to flash after the rom flash.
KERNEL IS NEEDED TO BE FLASHED in the new build
let me know breakages and so on.

It would be most helpful if you know how to and have compiled a linux kernel from scratch in the past. The only thing I ask is that you read the entirety of this post before installing.
Download
Setup:
Unable to complete handset setup
After setting up WiFi if you are stuck at handset migration move back to the first language selection screen. Then hit next as fast as you can. Should skip you past problematic screen.
After you have completed setting up your handset install OpenGapps AARM64 architecture
Unable to send or receive phone calls.
After you install OpenGapps phone should begin to work properly again.
After installing let Davik cache rebuild for 10-15 minutes. I don't know why but that fixed it for me.

what is this supposed to be??? Op seems kind of obscure as to what the purpose of the thread is
If you know what those kernel modules are, then you know what it does. I don't want to hold people's hands walking them though how to use it. If that's what XDA is for I'm just going to move it to my website and have this thread locked.
Its a rom with kernel modules so you can run Linux in a chroot with all the capabilities of a laptop for penetration testing. Its like the PwnieExpress. Except it actually works. Well, not yet, but I'm working on it. The things baked into the PwnieExpress anyone can install without having to jump through a million hoops anyway. I'm trying to do the hard stuff of enabling radio frequency hacking on your handset.
Eventually if I ever get a jtagulator I'll rip my phone apart and begin analyzing and dissecting the individual flash nand chips. The broadcom chip on the phone looks to not have been neutered either.

hi,
not sure if you will find this or not, but what skill are needed to develop custom OS for any device?
what languages should I learn? currently I am leering android app development with java (I am a beginner but have some experience in java basics, not data structure or algorithms.)
And btw, what forums are popular in S.Korea? (and in Japan and China if you know) like reddit and xda are very popular among english world.

[CM14.1] A310F Port (please help)

We finally did it!
With the help of a guy called alexax66 we ported
CM14.1 to A310f.
There are major bugs like no simple card detected etc.
To get through the setup wizard, skip WiFi and then add once you are in system!
You can root the device by flashing supersu.
DOWNLOAD: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B6vI9V6s4jvbZlUyb0JCanJXcTg?usp=sharing DOWNLOAD the 2 files, flash the rom, (it has bigger size) and then the Patch!
This is not a port sorry. It is an unofficial build.
I tried it yesterday and it's really nice, but got RIL problems.
Made by alexax66 on 4PDA.ru according to the updater-script.
Removed SIM and inserted again, but on reboot it was gone.
Flashed gapps and got playstore working. Havn't tried anything else as I had to flash back to working rom.

The touch sensors remain backlight when you touch the screen (I don't know if it's a bug but for the batterie...)
the voice recorder slows down the sound when played back.
the rom works great, I could do more testing when the sim card bug is corrected

Excellent work! Can you commit your branch for this to GitHub so devs can lend a hand?
It looks more like a port from J7 lineage. It's made but a russian guy over at 4pda but I haven't seen any thread or sources.

I'll port a new lineage os.. like the ril is kinda boring.

Good luck then.
It may be impossible to make it fully working without building from sources, and not even that is a guarantee to get ril working without bugs.

Out of all people you should know how desperate some of us are for a stock android rom, dear @DasNuddel. I could be a tester for you, or any kind of helper for that matter.
