i used that wiht my tagsfordroid nfc tags and tec tiles
the tags for droid one are still going strong after 4 yrs so

I have a car mount that can fit a wireless charger and my phone. I'm looking to put nfc tag on the charger or near it so my phone detects and realizes its in the car and kicks off a script which launches pandora, enables blue tooth, enables location services, disables wifi, and launches my car dock app and/or google search so I can say "navigate to the beverage center" thats all for now. another thing I want to attempt is if it location senses i'm home it asks me if I want to shut off my wifi thermost and if it senses I'm away it asks me if I want to turn it on. I can put two nfc tags on my dash, one for turning heat on and the other for off but that would require me to remember. lol

Motorola Smart Actions app

Was at the verizon store this afternoon looking at some accessories, but also wandered into the motorola section to play with their phones.
Most/all of the motorola phones had an app called smart actions. This app lets you set up different profiles for work/home/car, so that different radios are on depending where you're at. Is there a similar market app that does the same thing?
Tasker
On Play Store

I'm sure tasker can handle this, but i'm looking for something more dumbed down. I really don't want to learn tasker to be able to do this.
Automateit is the one I am using, very straightforward
^^Thanks.. That looks like tasker but on a much simpler level.
Really I just need to set up a few automated functions like turning wifi on/off & enable/disable BT as I depart/arrive the home location.
As I think about it, I don't always go into the car when leaving the house, so BT is not always needed. I can't think of what logic would apply to enable BT strictly when in/near the car (a use for nfc perhaps??)
One thing I do notice with the evo lte is that BT seems to be on all the time, even when not connected. On the old evo 4g with cm7, the BT icon was bright when connected, but dim when not. Maybe this is a bit misleading, as BT must of still been on [all the time] in order to be able to connect with its guest device.
Any comments on battery drain with the location or cell tower checking enabled? I have an airave at home, so it's real easy to determine if i'm home or not using just the cell tower ID/NID and not the location trigger.
Thanks!

Programmable NFC tags by Samsung for select Galaxy phones

I know it doesn't mention the Note, but I'd be hard pressed to see this not being ported over if not part of the list of devices. Just thought it was nifty and wanted to share

can't you just use tasker for that, using cell tower signals?

You can, but it's rather broad...
NFC ReTag, free app in the market, lets you use ANY NFC tag (writeable or not) to set various parameters on the phone, but more importantly IMO is it can run any Tasker task.
When I get in my car and plug into the AC and put my phone in the holder, there's an NFC tag there. It's seen, Car Home starts, Waze starts, depending on the time of day the screen brightness changes, volume increases etc..
When I get to work I scan a tag on my keyboard and it forces the phone into Work mode (I work close to home and sometimes wind up on the same tower on each, leading to the phone bouncing between profiles).
I also have a sleep tag, but I never use it.. Sleep mode = Plugged in after 10pm and turned face-down, all in Tasker.

What's the purpose of NFC tags ?

I've been seeing videos of NFC tags and was wanting to know what is the real benefit from using them ? Some people turn on WiFi, Bluetooth, brightness and so on by swiping a tag on the back of the phone. I can see a real use for payments, can anyone shed some light on the tags . I've seached the net but was wanting to get you guys opinions on tags.

There's a lot you can do with NFC but really not much use right now. There are apps that allow you to program a tag with what ever info you want, there are apps that use NFC to launch tasks like set an alarm, switch profiles etc. Right now I'm helping a friend promote his group and at are events he has me and his promoter give out NFC bracelets that have his info and a link to a mobile site with free music and concert info. If you have a bracelet already we can also keep track of the concerts you have been to and he picks a few of the fans who come to multiple concerts and let them back stage to hang with his band. Pretty cool stuff
The tags are a neat gimmick and I use several. I have one in my car that I swipe when I get in and it turns off wifi, turns on bluetooth, and resets my volumes for car use. When I get home, I have swipe it again and it turns off bluetooth, turns on wifi, and resets my volumes for home use. I also put a tag on my Aircrew ID, so I can swipe my ID on my phone and enable or disable airplane mode. Now I could do all this manually, but a swipe of the NFC tag takes less than a second. Plus my employer requires my phone to be password locked but I can swipe a tag and execute these functions without unlocking my phone. Lastly, it is pretty cool to show off the capabilities of your phone in front of an IPhone geek.

I have one that users can tap and it automatically connects their phone to my protected wifi network. It gives them everything needed to log on.
I have another in my nightstand that sets my alarm when I place my phone on my nightstand at night.
Finally, I have one under my lightswitch as I leave that turns on/off wifi
I actually just ordered a couple last night, I can't wait to get them. They threw in a free keychain too, which is cool cause I'll probably use it as my "car mode" invoker. The guest WiFi tag is a cool idea, I might have to give that a shot.
+1 on impressing your iFriends , it's hard to deny how cool the technology is...

Is there an Android phone that will auto power on if connect to charger?

Im looking for a Android powered GSM phone that will automatically turn itself back on if the battery is dead and power is reconnected.
I want to stash this in my vintage automobile and use tracking software to locate the vehicle in the unfortunate event its stolen. The only issue I need to solve is if the battery dies and the phone turns off how to turn it back on automatically. I plan to put the device in the door panels so access will be difficult.
Does anyone know of a phone that does this?
Not sure where to post a question like this so I figured I'd start here.

Please check NoMoarPowah! app from Chainfire - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.nomoarpowah&hl=en
NoMoarPowah! can automatically reboot into Android when charging is done. Either when fully charged, or when the battery level reaches 15% and Android has enough juice to run.
The app is known to work on the following devices -
Tested on the following devices:
- Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) and family
- Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100) and family
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" (P1000) and family
- Samsung Droid Charge
- Samsung/T-Mobile Sidekick 4G
- Samsung Continuum (ticker overlaps)
Awesome thank you!!
Kind of a useless app, since you have to select your option each use. May as well just plug in and power up.
Note 2 > Deodexed Stock ROM > Tapatalk 2
you should try with Tasker (but that's not a free app, unfortunately)
Car Charging
Intelligent Approach,
I have also did the same thing but with some alteration and continue improvements to it for my vehicle security, i also did the same but putted the phone in dashboard and connected it to car cigarette lighter socket internally,(simple wiring), whenever car starts, it will start charging and Battery Booster apps Prevents Overcharge.
But currently i have hidden my Phone Near Speakers at the Back, and integrated it with Car Key less entry Remote (Car Security), so when ever some Opens my Car Doors, Car security Sends 12v Current to Siren as well as Car Charger that is connected to Mobile.
My Mobile is Programmed using an simple App that Call my Phone Number whenever It detects "Car Charger Connected" Event.
In short I get informed by my car in case of Un Authorize Access simple.
Keep it Up.
Anjum
how do you detect car charger connected event programmatically?
hi greatanjum,
thanks for your interesting post.
how do you detect car charger connected event programmatically?
could you please post a source code snippet about this?
Thank you
silvio
P.S. : I think I've gotted myself ... Using BatteryManager and its BATTERY_PLUGGED_* and EXTRA PLUGGED ...
Am I right?

if you flash TWRP and turn your phone off soon as it is connected to a charger it will boot into recovery, with that being said you easily the partition it boots into from recovery to system
i know this is a tad old post but it was near the top of google search so others may still find this thread useful
but samsung galaxy europa (its quite old and cheap £/$20 or less unlocked and locked) phone seem to work well for me only modification you have to make to the phone is the power button needs to be held down (at the start i used a clamp or large paperclip), so soon as power is received it turns on even after full power drain as when the charger is powered up it starts the auto charge which then checks the keys and sees the power/hangup button is pressed (power button is ignored as long as its left constantly held down so it not turn off) o and make sure sound is set to silent or the low battery warning will blaring away when it is running low (i do believe there is a extended battery you can get for the phone as well)
i use FollowMee for tracking and wheresmydroid as backup (has sms keyword triggering) FollowMee me never failed me) only issue is you need lots of account with wheresmydroid if you have more then 2 devices (assuming you want to use it to track via website if not the SMS keyword GPS one off tracking can be useful and it will use google WiFi Geolocation if GPS fails to work and a wifi access point is in range and you have mobile data) FollowMee does have a one off $3 or $6 payment for full 15-30 day history unlock (but works fine as free as well but will only show one current location at a time no history)
and disabled all automatic updates on google play (make sure you open google play a number of times with 5 minute delay between each open so it installs the newer version and let it update or it might get stuck in a loop and eat all mobile data) on the phone and push updates so only the app uses data (you could probably get away with a M2M sim as well), also set the phone to 2G only as 3G is bit flaky on samsung phones and 2G uses nearly no power as well

Can you get navigation to work on Gear S when the phone is disconnected?

I mentioned the issue I am having in the "GPS" not working thread. But as my GPS is working fine I thought I would post this separately.
When the watch is bluetooth linked to my Note 4, the navigation app works fine. However, the navigation app is also supposed to work without a phone if there is a SIM card in the watch.
When I start the navigation app, it uses the GPS built-in to the watch and comes up correctly with my street name. I then ask it to navigate to a particular address, which it also finds, and it displays the route on the phone.
The problem is the "Play >" button is greyed out. When the watch is connected to the phone, the play button is blue and I can click it. But when the watch is standalone I cannot. Another poster says they can get the Play button to turn blue. The only difference is they have never connected their watch to a phone and also have an older firmware due to the fact they can't update it without a phone either.
Can anyone else get the Blue Play button to activate when the watch is standalone navigation after searching for a route?
The problem I am having is that it will only give me walking directions on the phone and not driving directions. Have no idea?

At the moment the app is only designed to provide walking and public transport navigation. It does not support driving. But you have no problem to get the Play button to turn blue after the list of directions appear when using the watch on its own with no phone?
