[Q] Att Tribute/Huawei Y536-A1 Walmart phone no CWM? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My rooted HTC Inspire broke so I brought an "Att Tribute" phone from walmart as it has decent specs for 100 bucks(as far as I know). The phone, though, doesn't seem to have much support going for it. Huawei's website doesn't even list it(They have a 530 which isn't quite the same). I can't find any info, any way to root it(I did unlock it using the unlock code and adb), but CWM doesn't support it directly, and emotionUI 3.0's site doesn't list it to upgrade.
Does anyone have any idea how to get this phone rooted and mod'ed? (I'd like to install a custom rom on it like I did with my HTC)
I'd imagine this phone would have someone widespread use being a walmart phone?

Need unlock code
Could you please tell me from which website you got unlock code and how much you paid for that ..

I just ordered an unlock code from here: http://www.onlineunlocks.com/huawei-unlock-code
I used the coupon code 1$offshare to $1 off also
I haven't gotten the code yet. I'll update when it comes in
EDIT: just got the email with the unlock code. worked great. now the phone is working on my prepaid T-Mobile $30 plan. I did a speed test and got 10 MB down

I'll be getting this phone on Tuesday, but I've already played around with it considering my uncle bought one. It seems like a steal for only $40(Black Friday Sale). I'd like to root mine as well, hopefully we can find something in the coming days or weeks. Also been looking for cases and screen protectors.

I got it for free by emailing huawei. There is a site that has a form you have to fill out that you email them with the information. They will send you the code in a few days.
I have not been able to root the phone though. No root software supports the phone. Trying to manually root it but isn't going well. (you can't download the rom off the emu rom site because it's not listed

Stretto,
Can you send a link for that site to me? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I have this phone for my daughter, so far I've tried towelroot and framaroot with no luck. She doesn't need root but man that thing comes with tons of bloatware
From my CM11 S3

I'm waiting for a working root method for this phone, I hope it happen soon

Also have tried kingo root with no luck. It would be nice to just be able to root it to remove the bloatware apps
From my CM11 S3

Yeah the phone has sooo much bloatware, im using the phone as my daily driver. And also does anyone else experience audio drop while playing music?

Yes. They need to at least release an update for it fixing the bugs.

I made a main thread for the phone...I hope you all don't mind.
Too many threads all over the subforums here. Let's make this link THE place for our phone.
Hope you don't mind.

It looks like there is a custom root image and rom available. Unfortunately I screwed up my recovery rom so I can't install anything ;/ Can anyone extract the factory recovery and upload it so I can get mine working and install these new roms?
Thanks

Factory/STock Recovery: NOT FLASHABLE, unzip it to get the .img file.

Perhaps a small bounty for a custom recovery is in order?
It may get a dev interested.
Please post in it to keep it up on the first page maybe/hopefully before it gets buried on page 4 of the forum

Flashed but only blue light blinking in recovery mode. Not booting up.
adb reboot recovery
fastboot flash recovery Stock_Recovery
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then black screen with the blue power light blinking.
I can hold both the vol + - and power and get it to auto update the update.zip on the sdcard.
The file you sent is about 8MB. This is about the same size as the boot rom. Is this the recovery(the thing that lets you select different stuff) or the fastboot bootloader thing?
Somehow I think the recovery was restored. when I did the vol + - it updated to stock(or whatever I had on the disk, not sure). Then I used adb to reboot into recovery and was able to get the ability to update(pretty limited choices, I guess it's stock recovery and not twrp).
Anyways, I guess I can now update the os if that works....

It is the stock recovery from my Flashify backup.
Adb reboot recovery don't do first.
Fastboot flash recovery Stock_Recovery
Then reboot into recovery.

Hi there. I know this is quite late, but, I have the phone, and rooted it today. You can root it with this application called KingoROOT. You need to plug in your phone before you start the application.

[BOUNTY] Root Access/Xperia Play - $55!

Well, there we go. Dun wanna wait anymore, and I unfortunately are not too clever myself. So! I propose a root bounty. Whoever manages to root the device first and post a guide here will get it. If you don't have an Xperia play, I can do and upload dumps/test out new root methods for you if you contact me.
Some rules tho:
- It has to be possible for the average user without the use of additional hardware or commercial software (as in, software we have to buy)
- It doesn't have to work on devices that still have a locked bootloader, altho that would be very awesome.
- It has to work on the stock Sony Ericsson Software. Unless you can create a fully functional Cyanogenmod. Then I'll donate $100 to you instantly.
For starters, I throw $35 into the pot.
$20 by gnasher666
I'll go $20 for root

this will be a problem, there is most definately a sig check on the file it pushes to your phone through bundled software. A modified boot.img can be pushed and flashed to the phone with fastboot. Also the update software detects the fact you unlocked the bootloader and it basically doesn't work on those phones anymore.
not to **** in your cereal, but making a modified kernel and push through fastboot is just a matter of doing it, not a whole lot of skill will be required.
like I said in the fastboot thread, if someone who has not unlocked their bootloader can upload the recovery image package that the bundled software downloads and mirrors it, it will make things a lot quicker.

I'm aware of that. I just mean that we should still be able to use the normal Sony Ericsson Android software, so root on the current software of the phone, even if the boot image or kernel have been replaced with other ones.
I just want to avoid loopholes, like someone saying: "I got root! But only if you replace everything and don't actually plan on using your phone because nothing else works!"
I will have my device coming this week.
please keep an eye on this thread for the arc.

i will be updating my device before unlocking to get all the files needed. (hopefully)
I sure hope the phone can be rooted soon to much bloatware I want to get rid off

why do you need the boot.img for root?
rooting the system should be sufficient

not stock, but you can always make one, other SE devices don't have a *proper* recovery because they didn't have full access to the bootloader.
I'm curious what mode holding the back button on while plugging in the device, it appears to be different than holding search

Yep, it seems to be another kind of flash mode, altho I wasn't able to get any response out of the device with the usual fastboot and/or adb commands.
Hopefully this might be recovery mode. And that would open for custom recovery. Allthough I didnt find recovery partition, this might be because that MTD block is hidden. Root may show

I thought I should jump in here and clarify a few things. Bounty threads are allowed here at XDA as long as no donations are given up front. Meaning what you are doing here is just fine, as long as no one is "collecting" the donations up front.
A bounty thread can motivate development.
So...people who want to participate should NOT DONATE now they should PLEDGE and when you feel that the goal has been met THEN donate to the developer directly.
XDA will not mediate disagreements about these matters...so you do this at your own risk.
Have fun!
Thanks for clearing that up - that's how I planned it, actually. As soon as someone accomplishes root, I'll send my donation his way and I hope that others will too!
that works as I hoped it would. I'm good for the money once root access is available.
Personally, I think root will be a lot harder than cfw as it will potentially allow access to parts of the software Sony don't want you playing with.
fingers crossed some clever person finds an exploit sooner rather than later.
I would chuck in $20 if the Neo could be included....
Just spent an hour on the phone with sony ericsson trying to get a direct link to the recovery image to no avail.
I got 20 usd for the person who gets me a copy of that recovery image.
Once you get me that, I can make a kernel with root out of it ill give it away for free with instructions on how to flash it (given unlocked bootloader)
I wish I woulda did this myself before I unlocked my bootloader. Kinda frusterrated after dealing with their tech support.
I have a locked one still cant get img files,
Right im trying a system restore on the new one (locked bootloader) im hoping the recovery image will be downloaded onto the computer and i can extract from there, lets see huh/
well it restored but cant find the image, it's pissing me off now spent to long doing sh!t.
connected to the phone to ADB pushed SU no permission chmod busybox no permission, gahhh we need that boot.img or system.img but how the hell do we get it?!?

There have been a lot of posts on similar issues. You can "sideload" a ROM via ADB commands from your computer. If you can get into recovery, your phone can be fixed. I haven't done this myself (still stock), but do a search on google or xda on sideloading a ROM from ADB.

Did you clear the cache? Also, I've seen some people have to format the partitions.
EDIT: But formatting does not seem to be needed if you sideloaded successfully.

You have to be careful with No o.s installed .
Normally if u reboot when u see that you'll brick.
Without a o.s you have no bootloader..
I bricked my s3 and had to jtag it when it said no o.s I rebooted and black blank screen nothing.
I've had this happen also when choosing format system and format data /media some reason it botches the boot up .
My only fix was to sideload a rom or wipe factory and restore a nandroid .

What you need to do is this exactly .
Dload a rom on pc reboot recovery on phone first .IMORTANT FIRST FORMAT SYSTEM.
Then when that's done choose factory reset.
Rename the rom to Rom.zip or anything you want but make sure it says.zip
Sometimes sideload won't work if roms not renamed , that's mentioned in another thread about sideloading.
Then sideload the rom
Let it load and install .
When it reboots itl take a while .
I just did this to my HTC one the other day after I got stuck after formating data media .

[Q] Returning to stock after unlock and root without backup.

TL;DWR: I want to go back to absolute zero and revert my phone to factory. I'm new to android and just followed a youtube video guide to root and unlock boot loader and now don't know how to go back.
Hey guys, I am completely new to android and have been with iPhone for about 7 years so please forgive me for my questions as they are elementary in comparison with the topics that are typically discussed on here.
I decided to switch it up and try an M8 cause the build quality and screen really excited me so I sold my iPhone and made the switch. I was in absolute love for about a week while on stock. Just learning android and all it's small quirks was fun for me.
but now, I have the phone up for sale, I'm amazed at how convoluted it is just to return to stock after rooting and roming. I spent 6 hours last night with a phone that wouldn't boot and just hang at the opening htc one opening boot animation.
I installed TWRP, unlocked the boot loader and used Hassoon2000's all in one toolkit to root as well. I used this video posted on the toolkit thread on here to help guide me.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krw6H4gQ6g0&feature=youtu.be
I followed the video to a tee with some stops on my side cause what he said in the video didn't always happen on my end, so I would unplug my phone and plug it back in and continue where I left off until the whole process worked. It's at the very end when he used twrp to reboot back into his "normal phone" that my phone just hung on the HTC boot animation.
I have all neccasary drivers and software installed to run this the toolkit and still received the "error: no device found" from time to time when using the kit. so you can imagine all the hair I pulled out coming from jailbreaking an iPhone with one click to trying just to root my device to disable ads and not can't even use my phone.
after some digging to find what I thought what supposedly a stock rom/img/Whateverthenameis for my phone, I breathed a sigh of relief and flashed it using tarp adb side load option and it finally booted up. I now however don't have working Wi-Fi and some apps that came preinstalled on my phone are missing. I don't like and just feel like it's a buggy mess.
long story short, I just want to go back to absolute zero. all the way stock; I don't even care about keeping any root or unlock. It would be nice so I can adblock but I don't care about it if it will stop me from going back to zero.
Here are all the tools I used to ruin my android experience aka the tools I mentioned above:
Toolkit (thread): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065
rom/img/whateveritscalled that i used to get back into a buggy phone: http://www.androidfiles.org/?developer=M8&folder=StockRoms
video guide I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krw6H4gQ6g0&feature=youtu.be
I ran all this on a Windows 7 64-bit desktop machine.

I think there was a shipped RUU for the M8 that could be used to go full stock, I'll see if I can find it.
RUU = Rom Update Utility, which was named that back in the old WinMo days. This would just be a file that you either flash thru SD via fastboot or thru your computer.

RUU = Rom Update Utility, which was named that back in the old WinMo days. This would just be a file that you either flash thru SD via fastboot or thru your computer.

If you could find that it would be most appreciated
I just looked and couldn't find one. Would this be the only way to revert to stock from either a bad flash, boot loop or just plain want to be stock again. I want to root but I'm just not confident enough to use the toolkit without any handups. At least if I knew how to get back to stock I wouldnt worry as much.

Word around was that there has been no RUU released for our device yet. There is a stock rooted TWRP recovery image on the Android Development forum but that's probably the closest you will get. I'm not sure if a straight up factory reset would do it or not, but you would need to flash the stock recovery as well. Overall a pretty drawn out process, especially if you are unfamiliar with adb and fastboot. You might have to wait for a RUU

It probably would not find one, but if it did nothing good would happen, it won't successfully take an OTA with a custom ROM, recovery, etc..

It's pretty simple actually.
If you are using TWRP recovery, just place this in that folder on your SD card, boot into recovery, and hit "restore"
it will restore a stock ROM on your device.
Use the recovery version he mentions though.

reboot the phone into recovery (your power menu might have the option) and it will give you the version.
You can also access it from fastboot, or adb (typy adb reboot recovery)

Yea, android phones are a complete different world then that of iPhones. I was in your shoes a yr after the ip4 release. I didn't jump right in...I didn't flash or root my 1st phone for months. To be fair, not all android phones have difficult root/restore methods...most I've used were 1 click, same goes for jb programs. The only thing I can think of that iPhone had a slight edge was if you bricked from a bad app or jb...DFU and restore thru iTunes but then you worry about restoring to the new firmware...waiting for the next exploit and praying its not tethered. If iPhone is your thing...great but don't bounce from android after your 1st set back...it happens to all of us.

Yeah, luckily I went from WinMo to iOS, so I went from "if you flash one wrong file you're bricked" to "I cannot brick this device if I try"
coming back to Android was like the WinMo days.
Depends what you have too, my daily is a Nexus 5, pretty easy to do anything on it. Samsung are really easy too, you just Odin a factory tar no matter where you are for the most part.
But HTC is the difficult one, all these tokens and issues and hboot versions and patches etc...
You get used to it though, and then it doesn't seem so daunting...
In this case, these are things OP needs to know if he is going to mess with any Android phones, basic things like recovery and basic ADB / fastboot commands etc...

so your only option is to beg huawei for the code to reunlock your phone...
or sell this one (if it is still working) and buy a new one
or find another root method.. and when rooted try to unlock bootloader with root..
Yup it says I'm locked

I can't get them to install. I have the consumer wireless. unlocked bootloader and unlocked carrier and rooted. I reinstalled the stock recovery and it brings up an error about vendor.app. I think that file is nessecary to install this rom. thats my guess unless I am doing something wrong.
That's very strange I had no problem installing them the vendor.app is an image that is included in the update.app file try Google Huawei update extractor and extract the update app u will have a bunch of img files use fast boot and install them one by one and your extracting them so it shows a dload folder right then putting the dload folder on your external memory not internal right
I bought my phone from Wind a few days ago, and apparently this phone sold out at Wind.
I was able to get my code from huawei, root this phone using TowelRoot, install BusyBox, then superSu from playstore.

I can't find any information on how to root this device at all...
I did notice in the developer options there is a "allow bootloader to be unlocked" option. Is there anything we can do with that?

i am also interested in rooting this phone, i have the firmware if anyone can make a custom recovery in order to root it.
i have tried every rooting tool without success.
I'm also looking for a root method for the v3.
It's an inexpensive, neat, non bloatware phone which is really underrated and unappreciated by the rooting community. I also have the firmware and I'm willing to donate the cost of the phone to whomever can post a successful root method?
I have heard that framaroot 1.9.1 would root this phone.
I found this solution in China web site.

Can anyone help verify the serial for the V3 2gb/16gb?
I can't find the firmware on Irulu's website
Hi
I believe that this is firmware:x1067wf1601073e.
Confirm if this is correct.
When searching for this use PC or desktop mode.

how did you flash it (using what)?
In the zip are the instructions, and the tools required (qpst or some). My device no longer works, cause i flashed by mistake another firmware from another device, it boots but the touch is totally messed up.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I downloaded the above V3 high configuration and all the tools and instructions are there in the zip file. Here is the problem though with rooting the device. The device needs to have the bootloader unlocked prior to rooting and if you check your device you'll find that the bootloader is locked on it. I've tried all the oem unlock options and none of it works because it appears that irulu has the fastboot commands turn off for the most part on our device. What we need to do now is to figure out how to edit the bootloader files, ie aboot.c specifically, to allow for bootloader unlocking, then after we do that and flash that bootloader to the device we'll be able to install a custom recovery and root it probably pretty easily. Anyways, if anyone that knows a little bit more about how to edit those files and stuff would like to get involved in this I can confirm that the above link to the V3 firmware is legit and contains the correct files and firmware.
Actually I take that back. I was able to unlock the bootloader with the command 'fastboot oem forceunlock' followed by fastboot oem unlock-go just to be sure and then I checked with fastboot oem device-info and it then stated that the bootloader was indeed unlocked. So that's good news, now we just need to figure out a way to root and install a custom recovery.
I'm pretty satisfied with the V3 2GB phone the way it is coming out of the box.
The only reason I wish to root the device is to get rid of that stupid and annoying bootup music file .
The file on the irulu site is for the 1GB V3 version phone.
I can see that that the link supplied in the past post is for the V3 2GB US LTE device ?
Is that correct?
Thank You
Going to take 2 days to download the V3 High Configuration firmware.
Anyone have a better link so far irulu has not assisted.
Thanks.

How to compile twrp.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using xda premium
Ended up downloading the 1.6GB file using my cell phone using T-mobile.
Centurylink fiber has some kind of blocks against Chinese file sharing .
Finally!
Okay I finally managed to root this god damn phone lol I had to port a twrp recovery.img and after trial and error more times then I can count I finally managed to flash a working twrp recovery on it and then from there flashed the latest SuperSU flashable zip via twrp and now it's rooted and good to go. When I get a chance a little later I'll post the twrp that I made if anyone wants to try out out.
