Gear Circle in the US! - Samsung Gear S

All,
I purchased the Gear Circle wireless headphones from T-mobile. I saw a tweet from a T-mobile employee yesterday stating that are available in local stores. Whaa!?! I called five stores and finally found a store in Tampa who had them in stock. They are selling them for $130.
I've had them for 30 minutes so I haven't had much hands on time with them. The sound quality is great as you can adjust the equalizer on your phone. My only complaint so far is I wish I could turn the volume up higher. There might be another option for it. I need to play around with the headset more.
Anyhoo, thought I would spread the news to my xda family. Enjoy!

You may or may not have this answer depending on the devices you very had what's the difference between these and the LG tone plus(or any LG tone varient) I want to justify pay 130$ I have the tone plus myself but I see a lot of carriers Employees in store wearing the LG tone lines as well the Ultra in sprint/AT&T.

wow 130!! They better be good. I might have to wait for more reivews to come out and maybe same deals on these.

Assuming you don't have the Gear S yet what do you have it paired? Your Note 4 by chance and is there a separate app you have to download for the speech to text or can you just say OK Google right out of the box

Sorry, I cant speak on the comparison between the Circle and the LG headphones as I never owned a pair of LG headphones.
I'm a avid runner/bicyclist and I wanted wireless headphones while exercising and these fit the bill. Cost was not an issue.
The headphones work with S voice out the box. I've tried using Google as the default and no dice. Is there another app I can use to make Google work? I'm not a fan of S voice.

Update: I'm using "S for Switch Voice" to use Google Now on my Note 3. Instructions for the app are in the link below. Hope this helps.

OK so your Gear circle is paired to you Note 3 right now I see. And thanks for the heads-up on Google Now

I saw that the gear circle has NFC have you tired that yet? I guess this helps justify the high price they want. Although I saw some on Ebay for around 100$

Wow, I didnt know the circle had nfc capabilities. Sounds cool. But I'd rather swipe my card than pull off my headset to pay for something. Call me lazy!

LOL agreed

Why does a headset need NFC? I'm planning on vetting a headset along with the gear s but is there really any difference between these and the LG???

I think the NFC has to do with the tags so it can automatic connect once it;s in range of the tag vs bluetooth. I have the LG tones Plus they work fine for me when the price comes down to say 60$ I will buy the circle

Yeah I imagine the Nfc tag is there to connect to a device / start an app like music player rather than as a payment method.
These look like a sweet set of headphones but don't know if I have a need for them!

Will any newer bluetooth headset work with the Gear S to play music through?

Samsung Galaxy Player 5 Headsets

Hello,
Does anybody know where to purchase the headsets that came with the Galaxy 5? I personally prefer these headsets over my past purchases and sadly mine got soaked in the storm.
Thank you.
Amazon sells the earphones that come with the Galaxy Player 5.0 in black. Also Amazon sells the Galaxy S3 earphones too. They cost less than $6 on Amazon. The Samsung earphones are awesome! Best earphones ive used.
Yeah they're great! And like said, I'm pretty sure amazon has them.

Amazon actually sales them in white to http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Origi...8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+player+headphones, another guy asked the same question on the 4.0 and they use the same exact earphones
:good:The stock buds that come with the Galaxy player are the only ones I've ever received with a device that didn't wind up in a drawer. They're great. Thanks for info on where to get new ones if I lose mine.

Ikr, little to no news since announced.
I check every few hours for a confirmed release date, looks like samsung nailed it with this one, willing to retire the Gear 1 for it.
I Found this
The Gear S is Samsung’s curved screen watch running Tizen (not Android Wear), and it'll be out in November for $449. The Gear Circle, a wraparound stereo Blue tooth headset, will be out at the same time for $179.

From an Australian website called gizmodo so I think the prices mean Australian Dollar so This are 311€.
Yes, If Samsung or carriers allow non- contract options. If U.S carriers treat the gear S with a monthly contract then No. I'm hopping Samsung will allow simple bluetooth connection for those who don't want to pay extra monthly payments to their cell carrier.

I tried today but the store did not have it in. I will try next week.
Before rushing to buy this watch one may have to consider this one http://www.phonearena.com/news/New-...s-CDMA-connectivity-coming-to-Verizon_id61105. It may run Android not Tizen.
I'm pretty interested in the Samsung Gear S, too. I'm looking forward to seeing it here in Japan.
I went yesterday, drove two hours to the Raleigh location, def big but very premium and nice looking, no doubt when wearing it that it is a smartwatch. Unfortunately the AT&T people knew nothing, I mean nothing lol I think they were surprised it was even sitting there ... fortunately I knew what I was looking at. Problem was it wasn't turned on, and wouldn't turn on, not sure if that's on purpose or this at&t just sucked, but I played with it and the note 4 both very nice devices!
Want really stoked about the note 4 until after I played around with it yesterday, and have been looking forward to the watch since unveil! Refreshing Google looking for a release date, pricing and how they plan to do the sim option.
Still has not appeared at the nearest AT&T store.

Bought the Gear S this morning... 11/7

I went to my local Sprint store when they opened this morning. The front sales person said they didn't have any but the manager went in the back and got me one. I was wanting it to remote my 2014 BMW i3 like I do from my Galaxy S5.

Looks like a Prius with a BMW tramp stamp.
Looks like estate smart car from UK bloody horrid. **** phone **** car and gay watch lose the cell in name and just go by freak

Should I buy?

I mainly want to use it at the gym and running while NOT having my giant phone in my pocket.
My cellphone is on Sprint, can I use the Gear S from different carriers to have my phone forward calls/messages to my watch while my phone is at home?
Thanks. I'm looking at buying used from Craigslist and I never see a Gear S for Sprint.
If you had asked a few months ago, I would have said yes. Now, I'd say wait for the Orbis to be announced, which should be soon. If that one does everything the Gear S does but better, you may want it instead.
If you do want to go ahead and get a Gear S, your cheapest way to get a new one is to buy it up front from ATT, have it unlocked by ATT*, and get the wearables plan from T-mo if you want it to have data (which sounds like what you are interested in). I think it's $10/month for non-Tmo customers, which gives you unlimited calls and texts and unlimited data but only 500MB of it "high" speed (3g or 4g, depending on where you live). And yes, the watch can be on another network than your phone and call forwarding and everything else still works, as long as your phone is on the list of compatible Galaxy devices.
Warning
There is an issue with the charging cradle: it breaks by design sooner or later, so you may want to buy a knock-off from ebay or explore the lovely solutions described here, like socks, pill bottles, etc.
It's a great watch, no, it's still the best watch out there, one of the few with GPS and data, and I bought it for trail running without my phone. I use it daily and love it, but know that it is now a half a year old and updates are rare. The App store offerings are as meager as in the beginning; there is, for instance, only one music streaming app, Milk music, but with the T-mo wearables plan, Milk does not count against your data (search #musicfreedom).
Good luck
* To unlock a new ATT device without waiting 90 days, you need to be able to give them a phone number that is or has once been on ATT (prepaid does not count). If you have never been an ATT customer, see if you can find a friend who is/has been, and ask them to submit the unlock ticket for you. You save $50 just by buying it from ATT, plus, if ATT ever offers a better plan, you can just swap sim cards. T-mo won't unlock the Gear S if you buy it from them, at least they refused to unlock mine, so I went the above described route.
So this reply turned into a novel. Oooops.
My 2c anyway
The most unique thing about the Gear S is its ability to act as a stand-alone device. But the real benefit is having your calls, notifications, texts, and e-mails forwarded to it from your phone when the phone's out of range. The part that's amazing is how well it all works. Within 90 seconds of my Gear being out of BT range from my phone calls are forwarded, 3G and/or Wi-Fi on the Gear activates, and notifications and such don't miss a beat. Same thing in reverse when the Gear and phone are back in BT range. It's like having your phone with you but not having to lug it around. The real joy is not having to worry about, it all just works (at least for me on AT&T). Add a Gear Circle which is probably the most unobtrusive BT headset and you can do anything with the Gear you can do on your phone communication wise.
The Gear even pairs with the hands-free system in my car with 100% of the available features working with the exception of address book transfer and AVRCP not working in Milk (it works with the Gear's audio player).

Here's a big caveat. For all this to work you need a late-model Samsung phone and ideally you use Samsung's apps (e-mail, messaging, etc.). There are stand-alone apps on the Gear for both e-mail and messaging that allow you to compose and respond the same way you can with your phone including using contacts in the Samsung Address Book. If you use third party apps all you can do in most functions like e-mail and messaging is respond to something you've received. As for the carrier of the Gear and phone needing to be the same that's a good question. For a generic (vs. U.S. carrier-specific) Gear logic dictates whatever the phone picks up from the Gear (EG: Gear's discrete number for call forwarding) it shouldn't matter. Each U.S. carrier has their own Gear version running its own non-standard s/w. So who knows what each carrier did to their individual Gear's in terms of interoperability.
For people with non-Samsung phones or using the Gear without carrier access its unique benefits are neutered. In that case it's just another Samsung Tizen wearable with the biggest stand-out feature being its 2" AMOLED display.
Thanks for the responses. Dumb question, but is it possible to forward calls and text without having a monthly plan for the watch?
No you must have a cellular connection for that to happen. Verizon only charges $5 a month

I just called for a warranty on the phone and tmobile doesn't warranty the charger piece. So if the charging clip breaks you have to mail the watch and all to samsung for it to get warranty and it's 2 weeks. JUMP doesn't cover the battery pack

Or, for $30, you could have a working charger by Friday if you're an Amazon Prime member. Should you have to pay out of pocket? No. Is the time you'll spend packing up your watch and Gear to ship them back and being without them for two week worth saving $30? Only you can answer that.
AT&T, at least the local store I bought my Gear at, has said they'll replace the cradle if it breaks during the one-year warranty. If I want to exchange the watch with it they said that would be up to me. I have status in the Samsung support program and when I heard reports of cradles breaking asked them what my options (outside AT&T) would be if it happened to me. They said they'd overnight me a new cradle without needing to ship the broken one back. Obviously this hasn't been tested (yet) but there have been stories reported on the forum of instant cradle exchanges directly from Samsung as well as people Samsung's told to go pound sand. So individual experiences are obviously a big YMMV.
Just bought the att model on groupon for 181.00 with coupon. I hope it was worth as i ve been using a motoactv that i rooted with custom rom. Wish audible would work with it. I guess i have 14 days to return it if i dont like it. Also carries 90 warranty.
I use it every every time for cardio and weight lifting, if you want the watch by itself you can only play music installed inside the watch and listen via Bluetooth headphones. You can try YouTube music videos but is laggy.
Now, if you bring your cellphone , you can fwd and pause streaming music from the watch, also you can start , pause and stop endomondo , use your watch heart rate sensor to log it inside your endomondo phone app. If you also have the gear circle, you can set it to read all your texts and Internet messaging apps ,so you don't have to look at your screen. When I run at night I leave my watch with the screen always ON and I change the clock to a white bright clock so I can be seen from far away.
Update: the watch has wifi so you can try connecting it first to your gyms wifi and try streaming and see if is not laggy.

I'm on Sprint so the monthly would be $10 I believe. I don't think I want to go that route.
I currently have the moto 360 and with the new update you can add music to it via Google Music, but it sucks. You can't pick and choose exact songs, have playlist, and the shuffle button only shuffles songs within an album. Needless to say this hasn't been a solution.
I'm a little hesitant to get this watch since I've had the Gear 2 before and it would constantly reboot, quit, freeze etc.
Thoughts?
It's $200 here, if you haven't purchased one

I guess waiting will be wise choice. Use 360 for now and enjoy Orbis from November. This watch gonna sell like hot cakes. Only thing that can stop this watch from getting popular will be lack of compatibility. People don't look for workaround and just skips it and goes something else.
I was in at&t store yesterday, it was $100 on contract, I got tempted but remembered 2 things
1. Problem with charger on this one.
2. Orbis gonna be super awesome as Samsung is planning to use in house exynos SOC, so they might go for one in 14nm which will make watch more efficient.

That would be great, but android wear doesn't support sim card and google won't let them modify original OS (I guess they want to avoid fragmentation here). But Tizen is good OS too.

The international ones do, blame our carriers, they leave them out to save money but still charge the same for the phone. It's BS but it's been this way for a long time.

It is to make you buy a pair from the carrier sales reps to pad the ticket price and drive profits and commissions. Plus, how many headphones or earphones do you have from other phones or ones you have purchased elsewhere?

I have like 4 sets of headphones, what would I do with another pair anyway? I'd start to feel like a hoarder lol.
Lol that's true I do have many from old phones but these were made by a company that specially made them for the phone so I was hoping to get some pretty good sound from them plus they looked great.
The ear buds I saw in the review looked really nice and I would have been interested in trying them out but as others have pointed out I have tons from other phones and I don't even bother with any of them since I really enjoy my klipsche noise-isolating ear buds.
I had this discussion with my father today. He said "call LG I bet they'd send you some"
The problem is this is the 3rd phone carrier branded ive received with no headphones. No big deal but I was interested in these LG ones... They look great.. I do wish we got them.

I think you mean to say the korean version because that's what all the reviewers got.
Outside korea might be a different story.
They say its free but they include it in the price, then a few months later the free stuff starts to mysteriously disappear and the price magically comes down.
In all this time the phone actually costs exactly the same.

I don't think its just the Korean version. The HK variant gets the headphones as well, and someone earlier in the thread said the international unlocked version comes with headphones. The phone retails for 699. I paid 599. So it has been my experience that in all this time the phone does not actually cost exactly the same as the version that gets headphones. Your experience may be different, but as a T-Mobile customer, I paid 100 dollars less and I'd gladly pay 100 less and not get the earbuds. We are also getting a 250 dollar sdcard, and an extra battery and charger. I'm not going to whine over not getting another set of earbuds to add to my collection.

I think you mean to say the korean version because that's what all the reviewers got.
Outside korea might be a different story.
They say its free but they include it in the price, then a few months later the free stuff starts to mysteriously disappear and the price magically comes down.
In all this time the phone actually costs exactly the same.

I've checked those out before and not sure they are the same. They don't say Tuned by AKG, so is there a difference?
