Just read on the z3 forum that Remote play doesnt work if lost drm keys, i assume that would apply to z2 also.......... but if thats the case how do people have it running on non sony phones????

Oh dear....... ta folder is where drm keys are located, if you dont back it up before unlocking bootloader its lost forever. When i unlocked mine it wasn't possible to root it beforehand, so i dont have drm keys and im thinking this is why remote play isnt working.

not neccasarily, i still have option to switch it on and off, but it does nothing.
To test, take a photo, then go and switch xreality on, go back to album and take a screenshot of the photo you just took, then turn it back off and take another screenshot (of photo not screenshot)......... if its working the 2 screenshot will look slightly different, if not they will both be the same

so is it imposible to get it working?
ok so then is imposible to get remote play working???

I'm locked bootloader, running stock RU, ps4 remote play works great, then stopped working, it was super su that broke it, Google play restored it to my phone, I know I wasn't rooted so I deleted it, and to my surprise ps4 app worked again, so I downloaded super su again and yes the error for remote play happened, so the app must check for root apps before launched
Ps
Also screen shot is not allowed while using remote play, because of legal reasons, maybe that's why not allowed rooted android

Thank you, will have a look. I never really missed anything lost from bootloader unlocked, but this remote play would be a very useful app for me, it would get used daily, there has to be a way around it. The annoying thing is i cant get it running on a device its supposed to work with (because i unlocked/rooted) yet others with non sony phones can run it if rooted

Nope nothing in that threads any good either, they cant have tightened up there drm apps thats well, looks like the only phones that cant get it running are unlocked xperias

My BL is unlocked as well, so just went ahead and ordered another Z2. It'll be coming in today, so I'll see how remote play works on an untouched/unrooted phone. I'd still like to root (without losing the DRM keys this time), but it worries me that root and / or SuperSU is breaking remote play again.

The newest Playstation app won't log in with the 8003 error.
However, if you run an older version, it will login to PSN.
As for Remote Play, I am getting the same error as the OP. Perhaps the newest apps relies on calling the DRM keys?

titanium backup all the way. its the best backup solution so long as you are rooted. you dont have to be unlocked to use it, just rooted.
If you are unlocked id suggest a nandroid backup.

On JB, App Backup ( which also supposedly backs up app data as well ) is a factory installed program. Since you agree to the Asus bound EULA upon starting it up, im guessing its an ASUS app too

Well, If you can unlock your bootloader, Id suggest TWRP to create entire dumps of your current setup. If im not mistaken, titanium can pull the data from cwm / twrp dumps and restore pretty much everything. If you need a hand with unlocking and installing TWRP, you can pm me and ill walk you through it. Its not terribly difficult although you will need a computer nearby.

No problem My understanding is that ASUS , while a pain in the A$$ with warranty issues, will still take care of hardware ones with an unlocked / modded tf201. They just wont cover it if you brick it yourself.

I use Apex Launcher which is damn close to the stock launcher. It has a backup settings / desktop content setting built in. Im not sure but check to see if there is an entry in the app backup program for "Launcher2". If so, you are good to go as thats the program name for the OEM launcher

No, it doesn't take a backup of your home screen.
It does a pretty good job on backing apps and data, but you'll need to "rebuild" your home screen.

no it doesnt, it only backs up apps and app date (some games wont work - i found this the hard way).
best thing to save home screen layouts is just take a screen shot and re-do.

i wouldnt rely on this from Asus, ive seen people with things which are clearly hardware issues and they wont fix or they have really had to fight for it. basically if you unlock id take it as asus wont support you, anything on top of that is a bonus. ive insured mine.
As has been said, no the ASUS app doesnt backup home screen layouts. My cell phone camera however does.
I just went through this 3 days ago when exchange stopped synching and all the removing and re-adding of the account did not help.
All my apps except ironically the stock browser didnt have favorites I had set and bad piggies was at square one.
It also didnt backup my VPN settings, pictures/videos, screen timeouts and most basic OS settings (weather loc, temp in F etc..). The cam stuff I copied off via USB sync.
Basically after the restore I got my apps back, but no icons. I then used the pics I took with my cell phone to redo the homescreen. Then I set up email, VPN, basic OS settings. Had to log in to many of the apps that were restored. Chrome saved bookmarks so I loaded those and copied the URL to ASUS browser to restore them.
so in short a very manual job one way or another. But seriously lads thanks for the tips... been considering RAM of my tab the past few days , and have tons of custom settings and apps that I'd like to keep. Kinda sad that no auto solution has poped up.

I want to know if your root files for Bluestacks v0.8.1.3003 can work on the latest one, because downloading another 500MB would take me all night and if i can avoid that itd be better because my internet is so sloooooow >.<
The second thing is, well not completely about the root package but about the latest bluestacks 0.8.xxx, is it normal google play never works and basically just closes in a split second after opening? ever since i upgraded from 0.7.xxx google play simply doesnt work for me, and oddly, so does ADW Launcher (it works but after clicking it for a while it crashes the entire emulator) same goes for chrome and the gmail app... just thought id ask you this because you're the last person making root files for bluestacks and the only seeminly knowledgeable one since the bluestacks developers never reply to anything....

Well, haven't tried yet, since I always completely reinstall BlueStacks from anew. I suppose it should work for updates where they changed the emulator, but it's questionable for upgrades where they changed Android, because that would probably be in the rootfs.
So the only thing I can say is: If you're lucky. I would suggest backing up your old 'Root.fs' and 'Data.sparsefs'-directory, so when it doesn't work you can easily put those 2 back to revert.

Actually, at this end Google Play Store doesn't crash, nor does ADW (or I wouldn't have added it). I know Play Store didn't work for me in 0.7.x, but that got solved since 0.8. Did you freshly reinstall BlueStacks or have you always upgraded? Because upgrading could always be the culprit, seeing as it will probably not have been made to expect rooted systems...
Theoretically it shouldn't form any of a problem, though, but practice has proven theory wrong many times before... ;p
Anyway, I hope that sufficed for now...

I guess its worth it, no point in holding on to the current version of bluestacks if the newer version fixes stuff, and god knows the current version im on has its bugs, so buggy it could make an exterminator go bonkers if i had to be precise.

Ah, so this is where Bluestacks stores all the Android data apps make and the apps themselves and their settings? Whenever i previously tried to root Bluestacks id save the entire \Bluestacks folder in ProgramData as a backup incase things went south, keeping it to just those two files should make things easier...

Weird, we're at like opposite spectrums of it lol, for me 0.7 worked but for you it didnt while with 0.8 it did for you but not me. I wonder if the folks over at Bluestacks made it as a way to prevent users that were previously using the Play Store since companies have to license being able to use Google Play..

[Q] Facebook Messenger Crashing

Hi there, proud new owner here, a tiny bit dissapointed with washed out colours /Im coming from an unbeatable amoled screen of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7/ and not being able to sync my Jawbone Up /did anyone manage to find a solution for that?/, but my main problem is facebook messenger crashing. Does that happen to any of you? I¨m C6833 14.2.A.0.290. THANKS!
Oh, I think it actually might be due to a microphone not working properly, I am on UK C6833 with the lates firmware update. Just run the device test and it is showing me that "microphone failed" every time, also attempted some recordings and there's no sound. Does anyone else have a problem with mic? Should I have it replaced?

AFAIK, the device test tests the hardware connection itself as well as drivers etc, so if it's failing I think it's a hardware issue. I'd get it fixed on warranty if I were you. Who's your network?

I'm on Three UK, phone from Ebay...tu du dun duuunnnn...But alas, I've found out now, that it is only the facebook messenger app that messes up the microphone. It goes disconnecte and won't come back up until the reboot only when I attempt a voice recording through facebook messenger. Tried older version of messenger too to no avail. Hmmmm, mindboggling.

Have you tried Skype? I mean, you could try it and see if it works there (do a test call), and if it does, it's clearly something with the messenger app and not the hardware.
And, this thread should be in the Q&A section and not general.

Facebook or more Apps problem with bootloader unlocked Sony Xperia Z Ultra (C6806)
After factory reset my beloved C6806 (Sony Xperia Z Ultra ) and unlocking the bootloader through the Sony official unlocking procedure, I found my Facebook, Gmail, SMS and more apps started failing to run. Especially Facebook app, it just worked once after fresh installation. After restarting the phone, the Facebook app was no longer work. The screen kept flashing several times and then exited. I was never able to make it work again.
The only way to reviving the Facebook app was through clearing data in the app (Settings>Apps>Facebook>Clear Data). However, It required login to Facebook again then worked until the phone restarting. The same symptom repeats again, again and again. I am so frustrated because the problem of instability then extended to more apps. I had also tried to install Messenger or old version of Facebook App but there was no luck at all to solve the problem. The phone started running unstable.
I originally planned to install a custom ROM and root the phone in order to resolve the problems. In that moment, I had an idea and guessed that the problems might be caused by the bootloader. The I use Flashtool and lock the bootloader.
Wow La .................. All the problems are solved and no more problem existed.
If you have the same problem with Sony smartphone and the phone is bootloader unlocked, please try to relock the bootloader again. It may solve most of your problems.
Additional note: Some people have mentioned the problem of Xperia For Facebook. This is the hint for me to think about the source of problem coming from the bootloader. Sony's default apps have a habit to check the bootloader status of the phone before running like FOTA Update. No more update is avail for those unlocked bootloader Xperia smartphones. So do not use Official ROMs if you want to unlock bootloader. (However, many apps will stop running with custom ROMs like bank apps or Google Pay.) Please install custom ROMs with unlocked bootloader Xperia smartphone. Do not keep using the Official Version ROMs because this will be your beginning of nightmare.

........calm down. You can't base your conclusion on that vague investigation.
Stock rom is so old and abandoned sony haven't added anything new to it like blocking facebook.
Yes some app developers are starting to block access to rooted devices is different ways.
There is no signs that facebook ie microsoft is blocking rooted devices yet.
But recently google is implementing only a simple block so you cant download the app from play store. But you can simply install the apk manually.
You should try something else first. Like flashing a stock rom ftf. Wiping the whole phone after the unlock including internal storage and sdcards. Even if unlocking wipes the phone.

[Q] playstation app, working?

Quick question, has anyone else had issues with the playstation app since its last update??? I've noticed a couple people have, but they have unlocked bootloaders but i dont really see anyone else saying it doesn't work, just wondering if the update broke the app or if its because i have unlocked bootloader, for now im just using previous version, but if i update it i just get an error when trying to sign in
Anyone?
How has this had 100+ views and not one answer?????? lets try another way, is anyone with a locked bootloader having issues with the latest version of the playstation app?????

lol, well the only answer i seem to be able to come up with, is that latest update introduced some kinda drm, therefore i cant access it as i lost my drm folder ages ago
It's pretty much been confirmed from Sony themselves DRM is lost when bootloader is unlocked
No DRM no PlayStation app or remote play
For what reason who knows just to punish modders

Nah the only thing i lost from unlocking was xreality........... video unlimited worked, noise cancellation, music unlimted, all the xperia apps even the playstation app worked until the other day
I knew full well id lose drm by unlocking, but at the time that didnt affect anything i used including anything related to ps4 or games in general
Yeah PlayStation app worked for me also but looks like in the recent update that enables remote play they have blocked unlocked bootloaders
Try and find an old version of the PlayStation app will most likely work fine

Bro if you unlocked your bootloader you're screwed. If it's throwing you error codes, you can't login or connect to remote play. My bootloader is unlocked, xreality works, everything works. But I asked in the Sony Xperia forum and they confirmed that since I unlocked bootloader my Playstation app isn't going to work and remote play isn't going to work. Tried relocking and still no success. One you lose those original keys phone is done. What a price to pay for wanting to customize your phone you paid for your way.

Question Is there a way to restore missing DRM functions like was done in a MOD for Z series?

see this: https://www.naldotech.com/restore-drm-keys-unlocking-bootloader-xperia-devices-lost-drm-keys/
This does not exactly restore the DRM keys, but does restore lost functionality which is the main reason people would like the DRM keys back.
Is it possible to do the same mod for the Xperia 1 III/IV?
The features that mod restores are no longer lost when unlocking the boot loader on modern Xperia phones. You only lose 4K/HDR Netflix capability as you lose widevine L1 keys.
When you relock the bootloader and use repair with xperia companion, the drm keys get restored but only with xperia 1/5 i,ii,iii and probarly also with iv series.
There is no need for DRM messing on these phones. I have unlocked bootloader to de-google my device and activate call recording, haven't seen any quality issues. I don't care about Netflix , social media "brain sheep washing" or gaming. My device works fine. Really having enough of going to a party and 90% of my friends cannot put the phone down for 2 minutes and have a conversation.

de-google. Sorry, For my own security i cannot have any google framework running in the background. So i am removing all google related apps. Using free OSS alternatives, the Google dialler that installing also modified, and it does not have access to many of my phone details and internet.
