Screen build - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just noticed that the screen is a little bit sunken into the tablet. So the transition from screen to metal edge is not that smooth, the metal edge stands a bit out. Is this normal?

please post color, model, place of purchase

Thanks for pointing that out!!!! After running my thumb over the sides, I have noticed that the top, bottom, left side, is sunken, but the right side of the screen is flush?????

For me its the left side that's flush with the rest sunken. I'm trying to keep a positive mindset about my new toy but build-wise I'm starting to struggle...

Think I will stay off the forum for a little while, so I can make my own mind up.
Don't help reading negative reviews if you know what I mean ?

My screen is slightly sunken all round. I personally feel this could be intentional to help limit the risk of scratches if someone is careless enough to set their tablet down screen side down.

[Q] screen not flush with metal

Let me start by saying I know am a bit ocd. The top of my screen is raised above the metal. Not a lot, but enough to notice every time I pull the notification bar down. Is this common with all of yours or a flaw with my unit in particular. I can feel the sharp edge of the glass when I pull down.
mine too. And there is scraping around the head phone jack hole.

It's a flaw. My top it's fine, but my bottom speaker is raised very so slightly. I don't mind the bottom, to be honest I kind of like it, it's easy for me to tell which side is witch by feel.

My screen is also raised a bit from the speaker grills, but I don't mind it. Will this hurt the phone, should I return or us it one of those personal choices?
Sent from my HTC One
My screen is very slightly raised at the top, very very slightly, and at the bottom it is lower than the spkr grille by exactly as much as it is above it at the top. I consider it to be perfect.
I have it too, it's one of those things that's probably a defect but I like. When I take it out of my pocket it's handy to be able to tell which side is the top with my thumb as I take it out.
On a side note though: I've unlocked the BT and flashed a recovery/rooted, I take it there's no way for me to return it even if I wanted to?

We have a 30 day law here, but the stupid companies have so weakened it that they can easily skirt around it.
the top of my screen is a little raised. not that big of a deal to me though. i doubt id be able to walk into an AT&T store to get a replacement since i have the 64GB version and i dont want to deal with the hassle of shipping it back to AT&T. plus i already paid for 2 years of insurance through ensquared.

Using G2 with one hand

How do you like using this device with one hand? Guess i have to small hands for one hand use of 5.2 inch screen. Finding it hard to write on it with one hand.

Enable one-handed mode and split keyboard mode. Swipe the keyboard left or right in portrait or swipe the keyboard apart in landscape.
Perfect in portrait mode, but landscape keyboard has me constantly hitting the comma instead of space.

One hand is comfortable to me with no resize of anything. This is my limit though. Any bigger and I'd need two. (That's what she said!)
The choice is having a small screen and comfortably using with one hand, or having a large screen and using both hands. Heaven or paradise.
Coming from and Evo 3D this phone is quite big for one handed use. It could just be the way I hold it but I even have trouble using the top of the screen one handed not just trouble typing. That being said I do like the size for other reasons. Maybe my sweet spot would be between the 4.3? of the 3D and this 5.2. I'm sure I will get used to it though.
Tiny hands. Then again i'm sure most pro bb players are like, " one handing note 3? Not a problem! LOL!". All personal preference.
No problem coming from a note 2

No issues and I have small hands as well. I use SwiftKey in swipe mode

I'm a big guy and there are apps like ingress that require careful handling on long thumb presses.
I'd not trade for smaller device. It's perfect even if I would have to shuffle to two hands. I'll get used to two hands and deal with a 5.5 or 6 device maybe. Right now I can handle this one handed but absolutely do not want a smaller screen ever again. Ever.

Has anyone compared the one-handed handling of the LG G2 vs the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Thanks

It would be about the same, pretty much the same chassis size but the G2 screen comes closer to the edge.

I wonder how the trade-off between the GS4's physical buttons (and thus no screen real estate being taken up by virtual buttons) and the G2's larger screen size works out.
Well, I find the S4 easier to hold because it has a more defined edge. I think the g2 is really awkward to hold, still not comfortable with it.
For 1h writing I have set up SwiftKey as shown in the picture

I find G2 is perfectly made for using a case that sticks out the bezels. Makes it good to hold, and no accidental hits on screen. Yet it's two handed use most of time for me. Only had it a few days, will come back later with review.

5.2 actual drops to 5.0 effective when stock nav bar is active. Though, there are so many ways to reduce the size or toggle visibility of the nav bar that it's only a data point valid for stock users.
I have 5.2 available at all times.

A case helps hold the smooth phone better and raised edges/bezel does prevent most accidental screen touches. although the phone doesn't feel like it fits as nicely in my hand without the case, but the tradeoffs are worth it.

I'm using this cheap case on my international D802 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grip-Gel-TPU-Case-Cover-For-LG-G2-D802-Screen-Protector-/310734809332
It's matte at the back, and the borders have the same glossy colors as the phone, which makes it look part of the phone i think. Had to cut out more room for the usb cable though.

[Q] Gap between glass and frame

I've had the Z1 and Z Ultra before and now I have a Z2 and Z2 tablet.
My current Z2 has a less than 1mm gap on the upper right corner and bottom left corner.
I noticed that the tablet also has some very tiny gaps.
Is this something to be concerned about? First I thought maybe it has to be that way and I googled about it but could only find those extreme gaps.
I guess there's no phone that is 100% fit around the whole frame.
This is pretty much just quick thread so I can stop thinking about it.
Thanks !
I strongly believe it must be like this because of extansion/extraction issue. This phone is made of glass, metal .......

gapgate on the alpha?

Anyone noticed gaps between the metal edge and the screen on the alpha? Seems like people have only reported this problem on the note 4. Mine has very noticeable gap at the top left corner, and lower right corner as well.
Sure it doesn't affect its functionality, but it kinda annoys me that there is shis asymmetrical gap on such a beatiful design. Seems to me like yet another quality control fail.
Do you guys have this kind of gap?

No, not at all, even though I have a black version I cant seem to find it. Although it've had some burn-ins on the display itself when I bought the phone and I'm looking forward to getting a new one through warranty if possible.

Same location as mine? I guess this would be a common problem on the ATT version then. Mine is ATT too. And there is also a gap on the lower right corner. It almost feels like the screen pannel is put into the metal frame at an angle rather than straght.

I also see a very very very small gap on the top left (a few microns?) this might be on purpose to relieve the forces on the screen should the aluminium shrink due to temperature.

This "problem" was mentioned for Note 4 series also, so samsung said that is some kind of protection if your phone hit on the ground... I think it is just an excuse and a smal build problem

850M Factory Unlocked Black - no gaps.
Checking out a few S6 versions- great Camera of course and louder speaker - but from the front I think Alpha and Note 4 are nicer looking.
I love how when you make a Call then hit Home button the Call shrinks to this mini window while you go Online or to another App- perfect multitasking-
One of the main things I will miss if I go to S6.
Touchwiz is more scaled back on my Alpha than S6....
S6 seems a bit more scatterbrained- lol although it can be fixed and customized.
I would also miss the beauty and size of Alpha-
Bet the Scuba Blue Alpha looks really cool- those were very hard to get.
Nope, European 850F model, and no gaps.
I'm not even seeing it in your photo. Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong thing? Draw a red circle around an example?

Moto 360 back pushes against display

Dear,
I just got my Moto 360. It functions perfectly fine,
however the back of the watch seems to push against the display..
Is this a bad thing of is this just normal?
Hope to hear something. Maybe it's a bad unit so I can return it.
Thanks in advance
meaning you see some LCD liquid on the display if you move a certain way? normal with these. it's so tight together that if i push the left side of the watch against my wrist, i see some discoloration. that's just how all LCD's are. the panels seem softer than AMOLED, which never does that.

I have the shiney silver edition, If i scratch the bezel ( that shiney little round thingy)
Is there any sort of thing I can 'wipe' this with?
( I think I saw someting familiar with the apple watch.. )
not sure, maybe some chrome polish? I have the silver too and i'm scared to scratch it lol

Do you also have those purple round things in the left corners of the screen? (only if you wear the watch..)

Get it replaced if you still can - they should not be like this. I have no evidence of the back of the screen being pushed against on mine, and it certainly should not be visible simply when wearing the watch (and I wear mine very tight).
I'm also seeing this on my watch. If I push against the back of the watch I also see some discoloration. So this is normal???
