[Q] help to remove default Gallery - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well i know this can be see as a duplicate post , but believe i search and read many Thread and search around google and no success or real useful tutorial find for this
i want to remove default gallery from my phones ( Huawei G600 & Sony V ) and replace it with Quickpic
both is rooted .
i use a Root file manager and Go to system/app and delete gallery2.apk ( Huawei G600) or semcAlbum.apk in sony V
now i copy Quickpic.apk to the system/app
and copy libqpicjni144.so to system/lib
after i restart the phone , when i enter some app like whatsup or viber and what to add a image the default gallery load again !! seems it`s still somewhere and only removed from app list in menu
so whats the problem ??
how can i edit Default app for opening image and video in android ?
selecting Quickpic as default on app asking or using titanium backup to freeze the gallery will not help for prevent run gallery in some app and make .thumbdata3 file
*******************************************************************************************************************
why i need to remove default gallery :
after i test and remove .thumbdata3 ( with huge size and make my phone memory full ) for a few times , i see when i enter the gallery again this file re created with the same size and never can get ride of it
even i try to create a file with the same name and replace it with read-only permission but after the day I see another ..thumbdata3 created with some difference in numbers
so i really need to remove default gallery and more important of that make Quickpic the default gallery for all third party apps like camera, whatsup, line , ...

If you wanna hide some pictures
I would suggest QuickPic
You can manually create file names ".nomedia" if I remember correctly to tell other apps that this folder doesn't contain anything

so i must train my english
write resco photo viewer in google or youtube, u will see how it works(i cant add images-not enough post)
this is how look RPviewer, you have everything in folder(like in file manager) when u open folder with images, u will see only images in folder, not every images in device
As said you can add empty files named .nomedia in each folder that you don't want to be displayed in gallery.
Create an empty file with any file manager app.
Must reboot to have them read and the filter applied.

[Q]All gallery files disappeared

Suddenly all my pictures and videos disappeared. All Viber, Whats app, Screenshots, camera, downloaded - everything... Only new ones I take are showing. The files are missing in the folders too. I have two DCIM folders - one on internal and another on external drive but they are empty now. I tried File Explorer, ES File Explorer with "show hidden files", and I've checked all of the device folders, but I can not find any of my pictures or videos. I tryed with QuickPic - same sh**... If i connect my device to my PC the result is the same. The PC recovery soft which I test, found about 3000 files, and with all emoticons and trash there were my pictures but in very low res. So I tried Hexamob Recovery Pro (from the Play store), but the result was the same - about 12 000 junk files and some of mine in low res... The method with deleting all .nomedia files doesn't work. Than I've installed Undelete - This app found about 300 files, and these were all of the missing files, but when I tried to restore them, It asked for a license key... The free version could restore only pics...one by one... You can't select all!!!
So how to restore all my stuff without stupid apps!?
*my camera freezes often. "Could not connect the camera" appeares, and I need to reboot to solve this prob
Samsung GT-I9300
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband I9300UELK1
Kernel 3.0.31 -Siyah-1.8.6+
AOKP Milestone -1 Jelly Bean
Omega v4.2
Where are these files stored (hidden), what is there extension? And why only Undelete can find the proper files with their full resolution!?
So, I found that Undelete detects files at DCIM\DCIM\Camera, but even with "show hidden " explorers does not see the second DCIM folder... Any suggestions !?
You can try
http://android-photo-recovery.com/tutorials/recover-deleted-photos-from-samsung-galaxy-s3.html
Or buy the Undelete licence .
Or read the multiple identical lost photos / files posts .

Thanks!
But I already checked similar posts, and stil can't find solution .. The soft that you recommended, resulting small images too.. The idea is not only to recover, but to prevent future problems of this kind.. I want to understand what causes that

[Q] .thumbdata3 problem [i need change permission without root]

hi , it`s very weird that i see in most phone there is some .thumbdata3 with a huge MB !!
it`s thumbnail right ? it`s a image cache !! but in many times i see the very big size of it from 1 to 2 GB !! on Internal memory
all my picture on the phone is lower than 500 MB and even if i have (2000 pics from all apps like viber , whatsup , ... ) the thumb size must be under 50KB for each image so it should be under 500 MB !! so where this 1 or 2 GB cache file thumb come from ??
it`s not matter that i remove this file cause when i enter gallery again this file create with the same size !!
i try to replace the .thumbdata3***** with another file , but it seems gallery regenerate this file and replace this file too !!
now i think about changing permission of .thumbdata3 but i cant do this with root explorer but the change permission not work cause my phone is not root !
do you have any idea how can i do this without root ??
is there any tutorial to how remove default gallery of android and replace that with Quickpic ??
i can disable gallery from app manager or open quickpic for view but when i what to add photo from viber or line or whatsup they open default gallery and the .thumbdata3 will create and my phone storage full again !!
I think the Android must do something about caching Image and video thumbail system it`s act like a bug , the thumb size is too big for a thumb size and not refresh to regenerate after a while ( cause some photo removed and thumb still in this file)

I have root on my device, so I did the following.
Using Root explorer I went to the folder /DCIM/.thumbnails (hidden) and deleted the huge file. Then with the "+" I chose New file and named it the same as the previous .thumbdata3-.... it created a file that is 0 Bytes and then I went and used the camera and the apps, so far the file stays the same size, so maybe that trick will work for others too. Good luck.
Don't think you can access it without root though.
For internal storage file permission change Go to / data/media/0/folder
The best n easiest way to do it is...
If u want to change the permission of file in your internal storage then just open root explorer ( I assume it already rooted) navigate to /data/media/0/(yourfolder)/(yourfile)
N long press n change the permission..Voila good u did it!!
Now here for thumbnails use root explorer go to /data/media/0/DCIM/.thumbnails/.thumbdata3** long press n change it to read-only I.e tick only read only choices n save!!Bang!!
This is basically due to some of them have Fat32 Filesystem format while they r in storage/sdcard which are different than Linux/UNIX file system permissions!
So if u go through /data/media/0/ then it's in ext3/ext4 format which is why u can change the permissions!!??

problems after Pushing user apps into system apps

Hi every one.
I am new here. So I'm writing with all the details I can think of.
I'm using HTC desire x jelly bean in India. I've temp rooted the device. Now I run with a twrp touch screen edition revovery. I run the stock version (with odex) Rom. The only changes I made is removal of some bloatware.
The main reason I've rooted my device is to save space by pushing non movable and frequently used apps to system/app .
Since I only have temp root, The way I'm making user apps as system app is as follows
1. creating a backup Apk file either by manually copying from data/app or by clean master.
2 uninstall the app.
3 after entering the twrp recovery, I move the Apk files to system/app ( I don't create any odex files for the moved app)
4 reboot after wiping dalvik & cache.
Its a working method. But my problem is that several apps both that I frequently uses and high size are cannot converted into system apps. After making such apps as system apps, when I try to open them it force closes, crashes, or misbehaving (eg. Shows No internet connectivity even if I'm connected to web). I tried odexing the user Apk. But it not seems to be the problem. I like to know
1 why is this happening.
2 can I identify such apps before moving it to the /system/app
3 how/can I solve this isue ( I don't own a pc).
4 I am writing a list of apps that I've already tried and failed to convert as system apps. If there is no general methods can you suggest methods for the following apps
Quick pick
Mx player
BS player
Chrome
Adobe reader
Google plus
Opera mini
Opera
Google Maps
RAR
Mozilla Firefox
Freecharge
Advance download manager
Google search
Dolphin browser Jetpack
Chess free
Thanks in advance.

Probably those apps have and lib files
e.x
1.With root explorer hit a app and open it in view mode
2.Navigate to lib/armeabi..xxx
3.You will find lib(xxx.so) files
4.Extract them
5.Move those files to system/lib/and set them with rw-r--r-- permissions
6.Move and the app to system app with same permissions
7.Reboot
Sorry for my English..

Thank you very much for your answer. I was searching it for a very long time. It worked like a magic with my Google play services. Before moving the lib files apps like gmail, inbox by gmail, hangouts were showing "unknown problem with Google play". I couldn't afford the space for an non movable app with about 27 mb staying in my app storage.
I was really having a trouble for the same question in following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2956631
That is why I created this thread.

Let's make a lesson...
I don't know with witch method has du move apps in system before and first you must check in system/app folder if have you double apps.
ex.
when you move an update of YouTube.apk, the name of updated app must have exactly the same name of default system app to overwrite it.
check and delete the oldest apks.
when you install a app from play store, that app creates a data folder,a dalvik cache file and perhaps a sdcard folder or a sdcard/android/data/xxx.xxx folder
when you uninstall a app from play store, the app has a script where automatically delete any created file.
when you delete a system app do must manually delete those files. Those files are in:
/data/data /the app data folder
and
/data/cache/dalvik cache or /data/dalvik cache
You can do all this only with root explorer or with one root file manager
the installed apps from play store you can find them in:
/data/app
You can see witch apps are in internal memory installed and you can copy from there...
always check first if the app works without lib files and if not, then move and those libs files
edit:
The play store and Google services apks are updated automatically without your permission and you can see that only in installed apps
All these sounds tricky but with a little practice you will become expert
@Superuser_
When new updates releases should I delete the lib files I just copied along with the app and replace it with the new updated apk's lib file.
Or the lib files I copied for older version works for new versions too?
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Free mobile app
The old copied lib files wil not work in a new version
you must again copy those files and when you paste them will automatically overwrite the old ones
don't forget each time to change the permissions
The thing is I'm temp rooted. (htc desire x). And I use touch version of twrp recovery for jelly bean. I do all the things we were discussing with my recovery. And I assume chmod_66 or something like that is the command to set the read write permission. But I think whenever I copy apps or lib files to system using my recovery it's permission is read write by default. I assume this because I never faced a single problem for not setting any permission. I am not sure about it though. And will you please tell me what is the fix permission option under advanced menu in twrp recovery is used for?
@ashifashraf5
I don't have HTC DX..but a LG p700
Just visited the thread because I was looking if 4.4.4 came out for my girlfriend desire
The only thing I know is, when you are root you are root
Temporary root,I haven't heard before
The permissions can be changed with root explorer app.long press on a apk/permissions
Google it the:
how i can change permissions with root explorer app
@Superuser_
I was testing this method with Google maps. I found more than one subfolders in lib folder. My processor is arm v7. Is it what the armeabi-v7a stands for ?. Should I move all the .so files in lib folder or should I only move the armeabi_v7a subfolder .so files ?
I also attached a screenshot for convenience
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Free mobile app
I think Google maps working in system without libs or not?
The other folders is for different processors
You must copy only the v7 files
@Superuser_
If I delete the libraries from the Apk using an explorer the size of Apk will get reduced. My doubt is , since we are copying the lib files needed , to the system/lib , if I delete the Lib Files from Apk and move it to system/app would there be any problem?
I mean
1. Will the app work properly ?
2. Will there be any difficulty for updating such modified apps through Google play
Sorry for the constant questions. And thanks for helping
