[Q] Can i type from my connected phone to send messages on Gear S? - Samsung Gear S

I just ordered the watch. Have some queries.
1. I will be using a separate sim (Another carrier) than my phone. If my phone is connected to the watch, can i send messages via Watch but by typing on phone keyboard (or an app)?
2. Is there Whatsapp or will it come?
3. Can i use any bluetooth headset to connect to watch to make calls? Is simultaneous BT connection possible to phone?
4. Can i pair with my LG G2? Can it run the Gear Manager in LG G2?

There is an option to use either the Gear S' number or the phone's number, but you probably need a Call Forwarding service from your carrier(s) enabled for this.

confused about connectivity

So ive had thd gear for 2 days and im confused. When using my note 4, if i left the phone home i thougjt the watch woild act as tye same number etc when out and about. They tout that yoi dont have to give out a seperate number etc. Was i wrong on this account.
It should if the Gear S can connect to your phone remotely. There are know bugs that if you leave Gear WiFi on, it may not connect to your phone reliably.
How do connect remotely and shut the WiFi off. T-Mobile told me it wouldn't work

Did you enable call forwarding so when your bluetooth is out of range it will go into call forward mode ie calls/text from note 4 you want standalone use gear only mode

Remote Connection
You can remotely connect the Gear S to the
smartphone when a Bluetooth connection
between the devices is not available. When this
feature is activated, you can receive notifications
from the smartphone and use apps that require
a network connection on the Gear S. For more
information, refer to “Connection Modes” on page
16.
1.
On smartphone
: Sign in to your Samsung
account.
2.
On smartphone:
Tap

, and then tap
Use Remote
connection
per t-mobile manual

Forwarding Calls to Gear S
If you turn on Auto call forwarding, when Gear
S is in Remote Connection mode, calls to the
smartphone are automatically forwarded to the
Gear S. You can turn on Auto call forwarding
when you pair your Gear S with a smartphone,
in the Gear S Settings, or in Settings of the
Samsung Gear app on the smartphone.
When call forwarding is active:
•
Your smartphone will ring a few times for
an incoming call, and then the call will be
forwarded to your Gear S.
•
If you do not answer the call on your Gear S,
the caller may leave a voicemail that you can
listen to on your Gear S.
To use call forwarding, the Use Remote
connection setting must be enabled on the
Samsung Gear app on the smartphone (this is
enabled by default).
Call forwarding continues until your Gear S and
smartphone are connected again, via Bluetooth
or remote connection
Sorry have to ask the noon question, how do you forward. From the phone or the watxh

You can set it up for when you call from Gs To display note 4 number or Gs number . But if you are in gear only mode then yes you will call from the watch number
*yes samsung gear manager on note 4
how do you set that up?
THis review today states this:
Which means, if you set up automatic call forwarding, you can call your friends from your wrist and the call will appear to come from your regular phone number. But if you mistakenly share the direct phone number with your coworkers like I did, then all bets are off and your wrist is ringing at midnight. Protip: don't do that.

When you BT connected to the phone, the cell radio on the watch is forced off. You can't receive SMS or calls from your watch number. All calls go straight to voicemail. This is true regardless if you setup auto call forwarding or not.
So, don't give out your watch number.
Well that's a bummer. I really wanted to make calls independent of the phone and have my main number show up
You still can. Just turn off the BT and let it remote connect to the phone. You trade off the battery life and a few features (that won't work without BT connection) for the sake of independent phone radio.
I do but when I make a call from the watch it comes up as my other number?
It can be configured on the watch for what outgoing number it shows.
I enabled call forwarding on the watch and gear managerband now if I'm out of range from the note 4 the watch connects remotely.
Then when I make a call or send a text it shows up on my wife's phone as coming from the Note 4 number and not the watches own number.
Just make sure that WiFi on the watch is switched off and call forwarding enabled on both the watch and in gear manager app.

Whenever I'm connected remotely, the outgoing call number is my watch's phone number and not my phone. When I'm connected via Bluetooth, it's the phone's number. I have played with the settings and have call forwarding on in both areas. My text messages show as my cell phone even when remotely connected just not outgoing calls. I'm getting a little frustrated as I want to leave the phone home sometimes and I don't want people to have a different number. I can't change this setting when connected remotely as its grayed out.
Jordan, look under phone settings when connected REMOTELY. You can choose what number to call from

I tried it. The number is set as my gear's number and it is grayed out so that I can't change it. Maybe this is a limitation of AT&T's network. It might not be able to place a call as another number remotely. This works for messages, just not for calls. This is somewhat disappointing as it negates the idea of not giving out another number when you leave your phone behind. If I ever call anyone, they will have no idea who it is.

nope...will only change if a) the gear network is on always ON or b) its on auto...and your not on wifi or bluetooth to phone...will work...

[Q] Gear S - redirect an incoming call from Gear S on the phone

Hello.
I have a Samsung SmartWatch Gear S and Samsung Galaxy S4 (version 9506). Installed on both devices is the original ROM (including the phone is branded). The devices have two different SIM cards.
Is there any possibility of an incoming call forwarding Gear S on the phone? Eg. In this configuration: someone calls me on the SIM card into the watch, and I'll pick up the phone call. No matter whether the phone pretending BT headset (if at all possible), or on a redirect calls over the GSM operator.
I still have one question, we turn some situations. Currently, how to dial of a watch, I have the opportunity to talk by phone (until then is what I want), but displays the receiving phone SIM card number.
Is it possible to configure Gear S / phone to the receiving display the number you started dialing (ie with a watch)?
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry for my English.

[Q] question about gear s using my phone sim?

im looking to purchase a gear s unlocked brand new but everywhere i go to finda a demo or more info i cannot find one where i live even the staff are clueless even the ones working in the samsung store.
my questions are
1. if i put my phone sim into my gear s what functions can it do similarly on my phone if say i go for a walk without my phone? will whatsapp work?
2. does the gear s need to have your phone connected to the internet at home if you leave it there and go out for the day for full functionality? i read in order for gear manager to function the phone needs to be on and connected to a working connection (obviously the gear s will have my sim in it o i assume calls etc i'll receive via the watch)
3. is the watch truly stand alone for calls texts whatsapp etc if i just put my phone sim in it and go out for the night?
my ideal scenario is if i want to go out for the night and dont want to bring my phone wih me im hoping i can receive calls texts and whatsapp only by just having my phone sim in the watch. is this doable? or does my phone need to be connected in some way?
thanks
Yes. If you put your sim in the watch you will get phone calls and txt. You can txt back just like normal. Not sure about whatsapp because I don't use it. You do have to have a Samsung phone to get emails and other notification type stuff and the phone has to be connected to wifi for that to work. It makes a remote connection using network via wifi with phone and cell network with the watch.

So can i leave my phone at home connected to wifi and receive calls and texts from that number pushed to the gear s and also receive calls and texts on the separate sim i have in the watch?
If i put my phone sim in my gear s can i literally get everything i need pushed?
Sorry your post answered my question above. But in regards to whatsapp calling or viber on the gear s can i do that from the watch? How loud is the loud speaker? Like if im outside and it is noisey with traffic can i still hear without needing to put the watch close to my ear?
Lastly is it possible to sideload android wear fitness apps to it even though it runs tizen?
I like i can put a sim in unlike the s 2

[Q] What will Gear S do?

Considering a Gear S over an Urbane, specifically because the Gear S can function absent my phone (Note 4). However, I keep reading the Gear S won't do this or won't do that. It has me confused. Please confirm the Gear S will do the following if my phone is absent:
1: Recieve a call, Make a call.
2: Recieve a text, Reply to a text, Send a text.
3: Recieve notifications (Gmail, Handcent, Calendar, ect).
4: Using Opera Mini, view/reply to email & add Calendar events.
What won't it do without the phone?
Lastly, I understand the Gear S can be connected via Bluetooth (phone close by) or via data (phone far away). Which is better for battery life?
It does everything you have asked as long as you have a data plan through a carrier (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.). The watch is given it's own phone number to receive and make calls/texts. There are options to use the watch's # or the phone's # when you are connected via bluetooth to the phone. It also has a wifi chip so you can connect to a network instead of using your data plan. It also has a standalone GPS chip for navigation or running.
When you're not connected to your phone, it will still receive all your phone notifications on your watch.
If you have a note 4 and are looking for a watch, this is a no brainer. I have a note 4 and I love mine.
Excellent. Thanks for the response.

Yes, you can receive and also I believe make phone calls with the Gear S without it having a SIM car as long as it is connected via bluetooth to your phone. It will use your phone's number and cellular connection.
The advantage of having a SIM car in your Gear S is that is gets its own phone number and cellular connection. This means that you can leave your phone at home or whatever and use your Gear S for phone calls, GPS, texting, web surfing with the Opera Mini browser. You can also have phone calls forwarded from your smartphones phone number to your Gear S phone number when the bluetooth connection is lost, but that means that your smartphone will ring, than instead of going to voicemail like normal, it will ring on your Gear S, than you can answer it there or after that it will go to voicemail.
Thanks for informations
Yes, you can both answer and make calls from your synced cell phone on the Gear S. I have a data only SIM in my Gear S and it still makes calls through my phone by default. Note: I and using it with a Lumia 1520, so that's about all it does with my phone.
