LG G2 lacks TRIM support on Kitkat causing lags? - G2 General

Well, please guys run a benchmark CF-Bench v1.3 and show screens with Native Disk Write scores. I have 4 to 9 score on my G2
I presume that such a low score indicates lack of TRIM support

Don't know if the stock kernel supports TRIM, but both Dorimax and Renderkernel support it.

My scores are higher on my LG G2 D801 running stock 4.4.2

Anyway, 14 is ridiculously low score compared with any cheap MTK phone which got up to 264
I feel like I've been really cheated and robbed for money by lg

Wow! I didn't realize that phones were scoring that high. I may have to do some digging and see if I can get that number up higher.

What exactly does the TRIM score do that's so important you say you feel robbed by LG? You bought the phone to use as a phone. If it performs great in other tests, why do you feel your TRIM score is that important you're comparing your G2 to cheap phones that don't do half the things the G2 can?
Help me to understand

Good point. I am very happy with this phone after a year, and I have rarely been able to say that about a phone.

This phone should fly and be screaming fast but it doesn't. so that's my complain. the TRIM support means that flash storage should clean up deleted files in a manner that new writes would perform as fast as on the new clean flash. And lack of TRIM means that onboard flash is "fragmented" causing writes to perform very-very slow. So when I bought this G2 year ago apks would install in a blink of an eye, like 3 seconds and it was DONE. But now I'm waiting like 20-30 seconds to update a simple 10-20 apk, and Chrome would take as much as 1 minute to been updated. So you see my point

I've had the same problem with other phones in the past too iPhones included. Found out the phones slow down if the storage space Is almost full like a computer hard drive.
What happens when you clear cache and free up space?

I use this to do manual trim. But i do not know how much trim actually helps.

Guys, how is the Snapdragon 400 and Adreno 305 in terms of performance? Cause I just watched the first review that I found of L9 II and they said that since the CPU is energy saving, the newer games might not work that well.
Is that true? I though that snapdragon in pair with adreno 305 could be pretty good, I know that its made with 28nm technology which should enhance battery life but is it also related to performance?
So after I heard this, I wonder if it will be more powerful than L9? Or its not true?
Thanks for answer.
Similar processor with the same amount of RAM? Why even bother making a new version if you're not going to upgrade the specs?
It has adreno305!? Awesome
Adreno is awesome, I've never had a bad experience with Adreno devices

I wonder when is L9 II section going to be created here on XDA?
So I happen to be the owner of this LG D605 (known as L9 II). I also had the L9 I in my hands for a while. I have to say I liked the back cover of L9 I more but L9 II is smaller so it fits in my hands better.
Regarding performance I remember scoring over 14k on AntuTu benchmark (GPU test scored a lot and this phone, it lost points only in multitasking benchmark when compared with quad-core smartphones). I can post some benchmark screenshots later if you want.
RAM could really be a little bit higher (with this stock bloated LG ROM, I guess it would be ok with CM or AOSP or whatever). Sometimes OOM-killer gets my launcher when I browse the net or play games so I have to wait some time before my UI appears again when I press Home button.
I also think the loudspeaker is on a little bit quiet side when compared to L9 I but this is not a big problem - it's still loud enough and the sound is clear. Only thing I don't like about the speaker is how it is positioned - when you hold the phone in horizontal orientation you will find yourself covering the speaker a lot which is annoying.
Lack of backlight on the touch-button panel doesn't bother me - I didn't have problems operating this phone in the dark. It is easy enough to hit these touch buttons anyway.
Overall good phone, other than this RAM size and loudspeaker location problem I don't have any problems with it. Dead Trigger 2 on High graphics setting is going smooth enough for me.

That's a heck of a first post. Welcome to XDA, and thanks for the info.
As promised - attached are benchmark screenshots (this was done using AnTuTu X benchmark).
Bought this phone couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely agree with you Varcain. Despite of few cons this phone is amazing for that price range, performance is good, screen is the same as many high-end devices and i am having absolutely no trouble playing latest games like Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger, etc...
I am just wondering when individual forum section will be available for this device on xda forums, where people with same phones could share their thought and someone even maybe will start developing custom roms for it?
And one more thing. Do you guys think this phone can get latest Android KitKat version? It would be even more awesome
I have it too and I agree with you guys. Phone is very fast and smooth. Games working perfect on high or max details. Phone dimensions with 4.7 inches display are awesome. I just wonder that it will get official android 4.4 and xda forums will have section L9 II and someone give us CM or something else. It has potencial and i think it will not be wasted. Oh, I almost forgot, anyone know how to root it?
I've owned this phone for a month now. It arrived at retail sores in Greece at the very attractive price of 249 euros. It's the most compact smartphone featuring a 4.7" display which is amazingly bright, with excellent color-rendering. The 2150 mah battery lasts twice as long as the Optimus G that I had. The camera produces very satisfactory images and the LED flash is bright enough to light a small room. The chipset is powerful enough for an unexpectedly smooth operation, probably more so than the S4 Mini wich had left me with mixed feelings probably because of the heavy Samsung interventions. Plastic is of a good quality, the paintjob is excellent and the device is made in Korea.
Here are screenshots of scores in Atutu and Quadrant, plus a samples of photos in Auto mode and in HDR.

Anyway, I am interesting to root it and remove some LG soft because, I prefer clean android. So looking forward to someone find way how to root it.
Is there any way how to remove qslide panel in notification area?
Is there any way how to hide labels of icons which are located at bottom of each home screen?
thanks

You don't need CWM. Why do you ask?

Laggy or not?

I'm seeing a lot of reports of lag, I for one am not experiencing this issue and if I were then this phone would be going back after my experience with the s4.
My g2 runs smoother than any phone I've ever used and I've used a lot of high end phones over the past 2years. I have noticed a couple very slight stutters in the stock launcher but I use next launcher and it runs flawless.
I have past experience with lg phones and it seems they sell a lot of defective models that they know a huge percentage will just deal with because for the most part everything works. Let me say that anyone experiencing lag and/or bad battery most likely have a defective unit. If it were me I would get another or my money back.
I haven't experienced any issues with heat either. I just got the phone though so I'll see how things go. I did have my screen on for 3 hours straight today at 100 percent brightness and the phone never got hot at all. I have yet to do any gaming but I would expect excellent results since it has the best gpu cpu combo of any phone out in America.
I'm coming from an s4 and this phone is leaps and bounds better in every way imo. Anyone doubting they should get this phone because of reported issues should not listen to that and get one because it's a great phone. If it has issues then exchange it for another.
People also need to remember that forums like this help serve us when we have problems so it's always going to be a high amounts of complaints and problems reported. Most people are completely happy with their g2. It has a very high rating on Verizon's wireless site and 95percent recommendation rate.
PS. To those saying that this phone lags period, and its just that you see it and us with slow eyes can't see it because we are just slow and not used to nice smooth phones like you. I think this is silly because many of us have lots of experience with gaming or video editing and can tell the difference between 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. fps. I know that my eye is very capable of seeing frame rate drops and I'm not seeing anything worse than 35fps which is very acceptable. I know this thing is gonna be a beast on cm or some aosp based Rom.

My phone is running smoothly. Sure I'll notice the very rare (micro pause?) Or redraw but I would be foolish to tell anyone I have a laggy phone. Even the smoothest of roms I've noticed stutters here and there but the phone in 99.9 percent of use was smooth yet some would say that it was a lag fest omg I'm taking it back.

Just got the T-Mobile g2 today, loving this phone. No lag whatsoever, even though it does get a tad bit warm, but other phones do that also (s4).
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I get no lag in most things, however some games I have tried have strange stuttering issues. I think it is mostly due to optimizations that need to happen for this chipset as those same games ran very smooth on my older Galaxy Nexus which is way slower and also on my tablet. Doesnt make sense for a much more powerful phone to have stuttering problems in the games so all I can put it down to is a brand new chipset that things need to be updated for.
have you guys tested the scrolling smoothness and touch movement on the screen compared to other phones? If you go to developers settings, you can click the option to "show touches" where a white ball will follow your touch movement on the screen. I think this test shows how smooth the phone really is when it comes to scrolling and touch movement.
I compared it to the S4 at a verizon store and I thought the S4 was somewhat better. The scrolling was better on the S4 as well. The G2 was really fast and snappy though, and I didn't really notice any lag with that. Maybe after a while of usage, perhaps the G2 is better? After all I only tested the units at a store for a small period of time.
I dont know, I thought there were alot of people complaining about lag too, it sure seemed like it but really there arent alot of people complaining it was just really the same users reposting. It made it seem like it was more magnified than it really was. Some other users were talking about stutter here and there but it was more like micro stutter, kinda like what I experience here and there. To the untrained eye its hard to see but coming from pure stock android roms (CM rom etc...) its more prevalent to the eye, but in no way does it ruin the experience. Im sure we will get updated drivers for the hardware and GPU that will get released for the Nexus 5, and since it will be sporting the same hardware as the G2. Developers should be able to use those drivers in AOSP based roms but im not sure if that will be the same for custom roms based on the stock OS

Changing the governor to one that's included in the kernel and changing CPU speeds within its stock limits is unlikely to cause any instability.

I owned an lg spectrum and though mine worked ok for the most part there were many many people reporting problems with that phone, and the same went with the lg revolution. Based off my forum experience with my prior lg's i made the statement. But I do think lg is stepping their game up and at this moment are my favorite.
EDIT: No lag on my G2. The phone absolutely screams, performance wise.
Another tip, until Android 4.3 comes out for the G2 (or we get AOSP) is to use the Lag Fix app. On my old Galaxy Nexus, this goddamn thing produced _AMAZING_ results. The bug that causes this is apparently fixed in 4.3, but since our G2s are running 4.2.2, I figured I might as well.

Ppl are constantly and forever reporting problems. Are there exist phone that is not prone to problems? For example Apple iphone X, did any of iPhone series have not had issues reported? 50% of ppl's problems goes from not reading in-box including manuals and instructions and asking simple and silly questions all over forums. I don't blame those ppl and not calling them silly, everybody has job and family to spend time instead of reading manuals. And other 50% part of reports is indeed from defective units but I doubt you have any proof that revolution & spectrum had many more defective units in stores than, say, galaxys

I'm sure everyone does this as it is with all technology. Anyway! it's not the subject I was making this thread about.

Surprisingly, the Nexus 5 will kill the G2...

I really don't understand this move by LG (if correct). They are just killing the G2.
According to a believable source, the Nexus 5 is going to have two variants, while the more expensive one ($399) will have 32GB, and, get this, a 3000mah battery !!
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57606477-94/nexus-5-16gb-version-reportedly-will-sell-for-$299/
Why, on earth, should anyone prefer the G2 under these circumstances ?
We still have several days to ditch our G2, before it loses its value...
My only question is then, why did LG made such a big issue out of the G2, if two months later they are giving almost same hardware for 60% the price...
I doubt that the 32GB version will have a 3000mAh battery.
The N5 16GB was listed for 350$ earlier today in the PlayStore.

It's a subsidized price from Google, not LG. Google will take hit on every hardware sold and make up for it in the long term from play store purchases. This is how the Console industry has been working, PS3 and Xbox were sold at loss, but profit was made out of software.
32 GB G2 will settle for a price around 500$, price of Nexus 5 will stay the same for the life cycle. Also G2 has a better camera, IR blaster, 3000 mAh Battery is still not confirmed for 32 GB model, it is a rumour.
I would still buy G2 over Nexus 5, because stock android sucks.
If the Nexus 5 is going to have a 3000mah varient, the G2 will never have a developer community. In that case I think we should all switch to the Nexus 5, we'll earn money (if we sell the G2 soon), have normal volume/power buttons, and the best developer community one could imagine. What will we be sacrificing ? 0.2 inch in screen size, and several megapixels in camera ? that really doesn't cut it.

Don't get you.... An old article as a proof to rumors?
As someone above posted the Cheaper one will go for 349 dollars. That means for me 349 euro. (even though our retailers will make 549 from it like they always do....)
Here you can get the LG G2 460 euro. If the more expensive of the N5 will be for min 400 more like 449 euro it will be just few Euro difference.
And we still don't know how it will be. If the USB OTG function will not be working again. Lesser camera. Battery. No radio, too many unknowns.
No matter how much you compare it. Maximum the N5 value will match the G2 at least in my country.
For sure not kill it.

The question is why on earth are you still here and trolling? You only post threads to bash the G2. It's like a G2 murdered your family and now you are all pissed at it. Not every country have the low Google prices, not every carrier will get nexus 5. Please just sell your G2 so we can stop having to deal with your whining.
So what if it has 3k battery and 32gb? So does my G2. Really don't understand why that is a game changer even if it is true.

Only an idiot would buy the G2 because he thinks its going to have development from the Nexus 5.
Almost as dumb as someone buying the LG Optimus G thinking it's going to have development from the Nexus 4.

I would take the G2 instead of the Nexus 5 just for the Knock On feature (and the larger screen comes second). I can't believe how useful that feature is to me. I also use the FM Radio and IR remote every day. I also don't want to wait again for months until the Nexus 5 is in stock, etc. I barely got the Nexus 4 three months after release, first waiting for it to be in stock, then finding a reasonably fast and secure way to import it to my country. No thanks.
As for the software, I won't go back to the stock Android limitations like not being able to set different sound volumes for calls and notifications.
Kit Kat 4.4 will be available for the G2 very soon, probably a few weeks from the Nexus 5 launch. But I just don't care anymore what Android version my phone has. The last few versions have been sufficiently good as to not care which one I am running.
I'm wondering if the Nexus 5 has anything to do with the Sprint G2 being delayed a little? Maybe Google told them to kick the Nexus 5 production into high gear, so they don't have the same shortages as every other device launch in the past?

If the Nexus 5 is going to have a 3000mah varient, the G2 will never have a developer community. In that case I think we should all switch to the Nexus 5, we'll earn money (if we sell the G2 soon), have normal volume/power buttons, and the best developer community one could imagine. What will we be sacrificing ? 0.2 inch in screen size, and several megapixels in camera ? that really doesn't cut it.

Seriously?

The NEXT Ultra..

It's been one year. I love this phone.. best ever and now with recent updates and development, even better. But one year is a long time. A year ago this was the latest and greatest.. now I'd like to see a better screen, faster processor, definitely a MUCH better camera & 4K Video.. at least. Sony is starting to fall behind on camera matters and that makes no sense.. Sony makes some of the best cameras and sensors in the world.. but the iPhone camera overall is better and cleaner, Nokia is totally kicking butt, HTC is making some cool new things and Samsung's new sensor technologies starting with the S5 and future phones is serious stuff. The Z Ultra camera is at best OK from 3 years ago standards and the Z1's was a disappointment while the Z2's is yet to be taken for a good ride but seems just a tweaked firmware version of the same hardware.. I don't hear any rumours of a possible successor for the Z Ultra. I wonder when and what Sony will come out with to better this phone just as they've done with the Z2. The Z2 is definitely not revolutionary, just incremental. But that's enough.. improving a great product is a great way to go.
Maybe the Z Ultra wasn't sold as often as expected as this phone isn't for everyone. Sony maybe considers the Z Ultra as some kind of failed experiment...

nah i dont think it needs a follow up successor phablet *NOT JUST YET., we all know that our 6.4 in screen is quite a lot but as far as XZU is running until now. Its over all performance on both technology and design it is still kicking some butt. as a user from the the 1st Xperia namely the x1., XZU is the far best beast of all xperia in term of its performance and built., for me XZU just need a little push to get along some software upgrade to make the consumer wonder why XZU is worth buying for.,

Performance never enough. I am waiting for an overclocking kernel that can push the CPU to past 2.5GHz.. easily done.. all Snapdragons have plenty of headroom for overclockin.. in fact tthe new 801 CPU is the same with high speed.. same one with a better GPU.. I bet the 800 could go near 3.0GHz.. my wife has a Samsung Galaxy Mega (less than 1/2 the cost of the Ultra Z) that has a Snapdragon 400 or S4 (..whatever people wanna call it) and it's base speed is 1.7GHz running at 2.3GHz stable with a custom kernel under Android 4.2.2.. totally kicks butt.. also a great phone from Samsung that maybe they will not update..

The Galaxy Mega, lol, the pixel density is so low that I could never use it. I set my dpi at 280 on the XZU and it is perfect.

Ran the original Galaxy Tab 7 for 3 years at 1.4GHz from 1GHz.. and still working today. Ran the Galaxy Mega for 6 months and going.. and am yet to know anyone frying a phone because of overlooking.. on the other hand, my iPad 3 burned my hands every day at its native speeds. If I could run the Ultra Z any faster, I would. Speed rules and lag cools

It will be a beast if marketed correctly. Also if they release sources so people can get best ROMs - many will move from Z Ultra. But what I like on my ZU is build quality if Nubia is close to it - I might get it. If it`s some kind of cheap plastic - I ll wait for ZU2

Looks tempting but then again, with such form factor you need to trim the thickness or it will become harder to grab it. Plus it's not even a Sony, meaning there might not be an android update for it. Even Lenovo doesn't do anything about this.

Well I'm quite sure aosp and miui will be supported in the Chinese community. There's a miui for virtually every model from ZTE. Root is definitely possible as ZTE is a strong brand in China.

Correct! 100% my view also. Great as this hardware is, it's stagnant from its day one. For me, phones and tabs are 25% hardware and 75% what down the road the manufacturer and specially amazing people like the ones in this community, build upon there. No proper support or development makes the hardware utterly useless, no matter how great it is. My almost 4 years old incredible and iconic original Galaxy Tab 7 runs KitKat at 40% higher than its native 1GHz humble single core processor and very limited RAM. It's been years of joy and fun. Where will a "ZTE Nubia" be 4 years later?.. unthinkable. In fact, I'm down to the point of only buying 6 month old+ hardware after there are already fixes, updates, root, recovery & custom ROMs for it.. till then, phones are bricks. I have a friend that quickly bought a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 in Hong Kong.. probably the most beautiful and near-perfect Tab hardware ever made.. no proper root yet, no recovery and of course endless software bugs and Samsung bloated software that make the unit nearly unusable.. pointless. Give it a few months however and hopefully the hardware will have software to make it justice..
Chinese do not update or support anything they do. They just rush things out. It's their culture. A "support" or "update" usually means, new hardware. Support and updates don't make money. They cost money. The Chinese are not into that. There are 1.4 billion buyers.. they can dilute their needed support into voices that will never get heard and sell in the meanwhile millions of new machines..
a ZTE?.. let me laugh.

Actually as of now, rooting can be achieved because there is a security hole that a root exploit can, umm, exploit. So it is unsecure. If any malicious apk get installed, your phone can be ruined. So for a big company to neglect that aspect indicates that they really don't care for their phone. But it's good for the community i guess as long as they steps in right direction.

[SATIRE] Top 5 Reasons NOT to buy the Galaxy A5 2016

Reason NO 5.
I've tested the new a5 and gotta say...I was disappointed. It's more bloated than its older version. Yes more Bloated. Samsung has put nearly double the bloatware in the new a5. So the older is the better option if you don't want a bloated phone out of the box!
Reason No.4
I drop tested the new A5 and it broke at less than 3 feet. The older A5 can survive above 5 feet. The newer one is weaker due to its extra glass back and heavier additions which adds more force on impact.
Reason No. 3
Price. The newer is 25-30% more expensive than the older one. For that price you get a more bloated and weaker phone.
Reason No. 2
No Premium Metal Finish. There is NO premium metal finish. It is under the glass of the new a5. There is absolutely no point having it under glass. It's useless and I think a glass back is kinda outdated.
Reason No. 1
The System Memory. If you take the 16GB option of the A5 its system takes 10.34 GB
Along with Cached Data you will only have 3-4 GB to use on the phone. That's Bad.
Hope you like this thread and if you are planning to buy an a5 then buy the older please. Thank-you. BTW I have a ROM for download. I will create a thread for it later
Glad I got the 2015 model haha,
I don't know what bloated things you're talking about, mine has no bloat..and a5 2016 is more expensive than the original a5 cz it has a bigger screen bigger battery better cpu fast charging finger print the placement of the speaker is better.
actually if you think about it its a smaller note 5 with no pen heart beat sensor and wireless charging.
so with respect to your opinion,I think you're being too harsh on the new a5 2016
Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
Reason no 6: Mali t720mp2 gpu (Exynos variant). I mean seriously. That gpu is age old. It deserves at least t760mp2 or mp4.
Umm, you went on and drop tested new A5?

If you want pure android go for an Nexus device
And it is not much bloatware as you are saying
For example I had an vodafone sony z2
Well it was full of some vodafone useless apps
And my A5 is not from any carrier so it has not
all the useless apps
I think it has just what you need not more of that
Some google apps
Ok some samsung apps
But you need to admit Samsung always tried to have
their own system
Since Bada and tried with Tizen
And now what they are doing is just having their own
Samsung apps aplication and thats not much of bloatware
But everybody got their own taste
So if you dont like it
Nothing to say
Get what you like
Go for Nexus devices

I close all task and from the app manager close all background proceses but
after 2-3 minutes it comes back again to 80-85% usage...wich is for me not ok...
I think it could be some backproces like the app wich counts my steps all the time...
Will see how it will be after disableing all of it....
Thanks anyway for your share

I set in the developer options animation x0.5 and it gets a bit faster
The battery is very good...can last for few days if the phone is not used a lot
But if you use it as a power user and do lot of browsing or video the battery need
9 hours to get empty...so this is very good...anyway it can last with now worries for
one hole day...but as said...if you use the phone less it lasts for days....
The build quality is very good also..has the goood premium feel in the hand
I recomand to buy this phone for sure no mistake to buy it
