Help! Have I broken my phone trying to root it? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A few weeks ago I tried to root my phone but I couldn't get it to work, so I gave up.
Later I checked to see if there were any updates available and I said I couldn't because my device was modified. So I took everything I wanted to keep off the phone (pictures etc) and restored to factory settings.
I noticed the SuperSU thing was still there so I removed it in the app manager and my device then said it was not custom anymore. However I wasn't getting notifications next to the icons for FB, SMS and Email.
I've just reset again and the SuperSU is still there and my device is listed as custom. How do I get rid!
It's a Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile/EE running 4.3

[Q] Cannot check if update is available when I recovered phone to original

Hello,
recently I downloaded a Glamour S4 and installed it. Also I downloaded, what is propably obvious, CWM. I used it for some time, but didn't like bacause of many bugs and limitations. I tried to download other rom, Project Chaos, but what is driving me crazy I couldn't download it from mega.co.nz becauze it freezes all the time on 66 or 90%. So after two days of trying to download and having this issue I decided to go back to original. I did everything as in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2323847 but after finishing I realized that the software is branded by one of operators here in Poland, and it was freezing too long (about 30 minutes and samsung logo stayed still).
Fortunetly I had my backup from CWM. So what I did then was:
Installed CWM
backed up software
Installed original recovery
Set binary counter to default
Then I figured that root is still on my phone, so I choosed option in SU to fully unroot
Voila! Soft is smooth and as it was orginally. Status is original. Everything as it was before I changed any software, except one thing - I cannot check if there is a new update. I have internet connection, can access websites through wifi or mobile data etc., but when I check if there is new software, phone only shows "checking if there is new software" and progress bar, and it stays for 5, 10, 30... 60 minutes even, and nothing is happening...
It is annoying cause I wanted to back to fully original and wait for the official update, but right now something is wrong... Do anyone know, why?
Cheers!

Samsung Galaxy S3 resetting

Good afternoon all,
I have recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S3 via kies to Android 4.3. I couldn't do the update over the air as it was rooted. I had to go through and root my phone again through Odin and again all that went fine.
However since doing this I have had to restore my device 2 times as it shuts down every now and then and I find I 'lose' some apps...mainly games, which I find annoying. It also wipes any saved text messages.
At first I thought it was only losing apps that I'd downloaded through other means (i.e. not Play) but it appears not. I still have the apk files stored on the phone and have tried to re-install them but I get a message of 'app not installed'
Can anyone tell me why this is the case? As I have previously said it has only been since updating to Android 4.3. Not sure if it is due to rooting my phone (i'm guessing not).
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Chris

See multiple posts re OTA and root problems.
Suggest factory reset if that does not fix then flash stock 4.3 through Odin .
I know that I can't do OTA updates... My problem is that the phone will restart, without warning and when it reboots I have lost all my text messages and a few apps. Trying to reinstall the apk files gives me the error 'app not installed'
I have tried factory reset both through the recovery mode and the system settings, but nothing resolves it.
My phone is rooted and runs Android 4.3 which was updated through kies.
The apps it loses are games so that's not a major issue... It's all the text messages.
I have a very similar problem, phone always shuts down and restarts on it's own. A couple of times it has lost some apps but usually it just starts up again fine but it's very annoying. Sometimes it gets stuck in a boot loop too.
A Google search for random reboot or random shut down brings up a lot of results but no solution's, so it seems to be a common problem. It's not just the stock rom either as it still does it when rooted and running other roms.

Stuck on Verizon Logo after reboot? (Saferooted for months, no changes)

So I've had the Note 2 since it came out, and I safe-rooted it about 6 months ago because I had MJ9 an;d couldn't unlock the bootloader. Currently I'm on 4.3 MJ9 with saferoot and no custom ROMs on.Everything worked fine until yesterday where I updated a few Xposed modules and rebooted. Here's what happened:
1. The phone got stuck on the Verizon logo for about 15 minutes, and began to get a little hotter than usual, but not hot enough to be considered overheated.
2. A message saying "Upgrading Android apps" appeared, but I'm pretty sure that's never happened before when rebooting after updating Xposed modules.
3. Once the phone loaded up, I kept getting spammed the "Google Play Services has stopped working" and "com.google.process.gapps has stopped working" messages. Searching up a way to fix this error did not yield and results.
4. Bloatware I had uninstalled months ago (Amazon, Amazon Kindle, Google News, Google Music, etc.) were all reinstalled for no apparent reason. I wanted to assume this was because something got corrupted and the phone restarted with a backup of my phone's entire memory, but that couldn't have happened because the bloatware was uninstalled 6 months ago when I saferooted the phone.
5. I uninstalled the bloatware, cleared the dalvik cache, and reset app preferences, thenrebooted once again. Now my phone is stuck at the Verizon logo.
Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

I would do a factory reset in stock recovery. See if that gets you back up.. If not you may have to Odin MJ9 stock img. Sounds like xposed is the problem here..

I guessed it would have come to that, so I took out mu SD card and found out that it became corrupt because of a mounting script, and now rebooting my phone works perfectly.

[Q] Weather Problems, Missing Notifications, Bootloops, and Root Access Issues?

So I'm basically making this a "fix my problems" thread, because I've got a lot of problems, and no solutions.
My phone is rooted running Sense 6 on Android 4.4.2, and ever since I rooted it about a month ago it's been a little... quirky.
For one thing, the stock weather app is no longer animated for me. The scene changes accordingly, but is completely static and doesn't play any sound effects even when the option is checked on. I texted a friend who has the same phone and also has it rooted, and he said his is animated and works just fine. It's more of a minor inconvenience than anything and doesn't bug me too much, but it'd be nice to have it function properly.
A more problematic... problem is that I'm no longer receiving push notifications for Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram in the notification bar. I looked it up and tried revoking access to the Android Twitter app from the web and logging in again, and nothing happened. I'd like to think it's a bug in the newest versions of the apps, but I didn't see any mention of notification issues in the Play Store reviews and the fact that all three stopped working simultaneously seems abnormal to me.
My phone also seems to have picked up an annoying habit of getting itself stuck in a bootloop whenever I reboot the phone. Once it powers on, it will then proceed to reboot itself about four to five times and then continue to function like normal afterwards. The other night it did the same thing, except it rebooted about seven or eight times and THEN stopped.
I have a sneaking suspicion that all of this has something to do with SuperSU. Shortly after I rooted the phone, the app prompted me to update the binary, which I attempted to do using the "update with TWRP/SCM" option that, according to the app, is recommended for HTC devices. My phone then had one of its bootloop episodes, lost root access, and has been doing it ever since. A few days ago I downloaded the latest SuperSU update from the web, transferred it to my phone via USB and flashed it with TWRP. When I booted it back up, SuperSU had vanished from the phone entirely. I reinstalled it from the Play Store and that seemed to do the trick at the time, but now I've suddenly lost root access after not even having touched SuperSU at all. I'm wondering if this affects apps that previously had superuser permissions, such as Battery Doctor. It had been stable until shortly after the root, after which it started behaving erractically - sometimes it works, sometimes opening it from the app drawer will pull up a black screen, and in most cases the widget either doesn't work at all, is extremely delayed, or will simply give the "Battery Doctor has been given superuser permissions for an interactive shell" message and then do nothing. So my question is, are all these problems being caused by a conflicting Play Store and binary version? And if so, how do I update it without screwing my phone up even further?

You need to start over from scratch
post your fastboot getvar all (minus you serial.no and IMEI)
Most likely your using AT&T so if you have s-off you can flash these two and get back two stock. take the OTA Update then re flash recovery and root.
flash this first
http://fs1.d-h.st/download/00101/a1w/4.18.502.7 Custom Firmware.zip
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 4.18.502.7 Custom Firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip 4.18.502.7 Custom Firmware.zip
fastboot reboot bootloader
now stay on the bootloader
and run this RUU from your PC > http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...09_10.26.1718.01L_release_356565_signed_2.exe
Take the Over the air update and your all set to start rooting again.

go to the folder where fastboot and adb are
open a command window (right click / command prompt here)
with the phone plugged into the PC
Type fastboot getvar all
it will output all the specs for your phone
remove the serial no and IMEI when posting it
what if your s-on
I'm having all the exact same problems except I'm 4.3 and s-on. Help please!
Gonna kinda bump this thread a bit because I've got another question - what about the "full unroot" option within SuperSU? Will this help the situation at all, or make it worse?

Of how WiFi won't turn on and I don't know that I'm doing - Galaxy Grand 2 G7105

I got my hands on a Galaxy Grand 2 sm-g7105. Performed a factory reset from device and the system worked nicely enough. A particular third party app I wanted to use wouldn't load so I kept tweaking.
I rooted and set up a CWM recovery with Odin, then considered going with Resurrection Remix. I made a backup with CWM, wiped the device and set it up. It looked great but 'audioFX.apk' or something along those lines kept crashing every 30 seconds or so. It didn't cause me any problem besides the annoying crash notification, so i figured I could just remove the apk and be done with it. To my dismay, then the notification then piled up non-stop and the system become unusable.
I went and restored the backup on CWM. Then I'd get error notifications for this and that stopping working (basically the apps present on the backup that weren't on the stock rom), so I figured the backup was useless. Another mistake, I guess.
Performed another wipe, deleted the backup for space. Tried removing every piece of bloatware I could find before unrooting (I wanted to do that). Finally everything seemed to roll... except I deleted some important apk, SecDownloadManager I've come to believe, and at that point the Play Store couldn't update a thing, it got stuck on 'Downloading'.
So I did another wipe, just to find out that didn't restore the missing apks. Got my hands on a stock rom for my model (a different build than my origibal one, but to hell with it... right?). I got that working work Odin, but to my surprise that didn't seem to completely restore the apk mess, and I got a ton of crash apl notifications and even after logging on Google the play store didn't let me in to try and see if apps could update.
Finally, I found what is supposed to be the device's original rom. Odin'd it all the way. Everything seems to be where it belongs, but I cannot really check 'cause... NOW THE ****ING WI-FI WON'T TURN ON. It's not like it doesn't connect to my network, it just won't activate. I press the switch, or goes back off.
I tried rebooting, taking out the battery for some seconds, performing a factory reset from within the system, wiping from CWM, dialing *#0011# to access service mode and deactivating power-saving mode. Nothing works.
HELP, please.
I'd be happy if the WiFi just worked, but knowing why the hell a stock rom should give any headache or what I'm doing wrong for it to go so wrong might be a step towards the solution.
PS: I'm writing this as I recall, so the details might not be completely spot-on, but the broader problems were those.
