[Q] can you run verizon roms? - Sprint LG G3

Might sound like a stupid question but ive read on a few different sites that you can install verizon roms to sprint phones (galaxy series in particular) and adjust the apn settings to get the signal working, anyone tried this? Development for the verizon g3 is picking up a little and id like to try and run cm11 but im not ballsy enough to risk it, has anyone tried it?

I'd love to say yes but when the OP specifies the variant(s) the rom is intended for, I'd be willing to take their advice and refrain from flashing to a different device. A lot of the roms posted explicitly state not to try flash the rom on a different device.
I'd sit tight until sprint specific roms come, or even multi variant roms appear, which shouldnt be long..

I've read a million times that you shouldn't use roms for other variants. I wouldn't risk it.

Yea im definitly not going to try it, im curious if anyone has? And if its just an apn issue? Its tempting to flash cm11 just to check it out knowing it wont fully function, as long as it wont destroy my phone. Somone on here must have tried it and knows if it boots

From IRC, TMO is actually closer hardware wise the Verizon. Sprint (LS990) and TMO (D851) both use broadcom chips for bluetooth/wifi. The rest do not.
That's not to say flashing a D851 ROM will work, it wont because of vendor blobs and bump, but you might find it easier to use for a base (might).

[Q] Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) 911 and Fixes/Roms

My girlfriend recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V). I enjoy all the features I get from rooting, etc on my G2. I saw the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile and have installed it for her. I wanted her to be able to have root, remove bloatware and have the lagfix (voodoo, assuming it is still needed) working. As I was getting ready to find her a good ROM this CM 911 dustup happened. It's ok if she keeps the Samsung ROM, my question is where is this 911 "feature" stored? In other words, what can be done to her phone without destroying emergancy calling? I am pretty sure just rooting it is fine. Removing bloatware after rooting should be good also. I believe the lagfix replaces the kernel. If the kernel gets replaced will that break 911 calls? Is anyone working on a stock GB ROM (as officially released Nov 15) that would have root, removed bloat, and anything else safe that keeps 911 working? I would be glad to wipe the phone, root, remove bloat, (lagfix?) myself and post. I just do not know what is safe to play with. Is this just a radio issue, library issue or kernel issue? Any information would be appriciated. I would like to make her android experiance a good one that still allows her to call 911. I have searched the forums and the web but can't seem to nail down a good answer of what can be changed and what must be left alone to allow 911 to work.
911 operators are drunks anyways... here's some proof, provided from a random Google search.
This is the vibrant forum,sgh-t959 not t959v... very different..
From my understanding, cm7 is the only one with the 911 problem (and any rom coming from cm7)
. Stick to samsung roms and your good. Also the 911 thing isnt the end of the world.. you call them, they cant hear you.. hang up and theyll call you back

Ah, since the download for the updater said "Vibrant" (offical from Samsung) and the model number is so close I assumed they were mostly the same. I see now there is a S 4G forum. Sorry for the mix up. I would assume this phone could have the same issues if CM was ported. Currently it is listed as not supported. I'll move to the right forum and dig some more. Sorry for the waste of space. If anyone knows if these are affected by the 911 issue feel free to chime in. Or if a moderator wants to move this to the othe forum feel free.
Thanks
Lol the waste of space is no big deal and your right, id forgotten that they call yours the vibrant 4g. But still the two phones are very different hardwarewise, idk why.

but here you go, it works very clean on mine, got almost double speeds.

Amigo, please try it. You might get a good result.
Since they are galaxy s phones you can flash the modems but not all will work. I was trying other modems Thursday, and even though I got bars and I could enter the APN and activate data, the phone was sooo laggy.
Many users tried the new modem and had the same lag problems. But exeriment and report back. If you get a bad result you only have to flash your old modem, not restore your system.
thats the one I tried, it totally lagged my phone out
Why can't it work? Maddening, I know. The US t-mobile frequencies and the two bands used is the issue. They went rogue with that two band scheme and now there's always issues using any hardware on their network.
Would it be possible to swap out the hardware, specifically the modem chip, or is it soldered on there?
Sent from the Jelly Way Galaxy
The mainboard contains the processors, video, modem, and sound. Not possible to swap chips.
It seems like trading hardware with other xda'ers would be easier and more sure. xda has a sale or trade section.
so do even know if it will be possible to generate a working, better modem from the tmo more at all, or is it just a really difficult task?
Sent from the Jelly Way Galaxy
the modem file is a binary file that seems like nobody is able to decompile or whatever.
Its always like this throughout the forums --people get a phone made for one network then struggle to make it work on the other.

the truth makes me sad
So when you say "seems" and "struggle" I take that as being very difficult but not necessarily impossible¿
Sent from the Jelly Way Galaxy
Nothing is impossible ...
But unless a serious interest is taken by developers who know and understand the coding, and how this code integrates into the chipset,
Then you probably won't see progress.
I'm guessing it would take development at the manufacturer level ....to pull it off.
And carrier/manufacturer relationships are often set in stone. It's amazing that our talented developers are able to glean so much for us, given the fact that often times, they have little or nothing to work with, yet they manage to give us some pretty awesome work ..g

[Q] About to buy a Note, radios for jb roms?

Hi,
I am going to buy a galaxy note today to use on Wind mobile (aws network). Are there only compatible radios to make the phone work for gingerbread and ics or are there radios that would work on jellybean roms as well? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything but I might have missed it so maybe someone can let me know.
Also I've heard the jb based roms like cm10 etc are unstable, they crash and restart and stuff. Are there fixes for these problems?
Thanks!

I know how to flash the radios, I've done it for gb and ics roms for a friend. I am wondering if there are specific radios for jb roms or if you could use the same ones.
Also about the roms - I flashed liquid smooth for my brother on his note and it crashed and rebooted a LOT, and he didn't want to try any more roms because of the bad experience he had. Is this the problem with all cm10 based roms?
So stuck on Cm10 ROMs, with all other goodies in the Android Development thread? IMHO, the answer is right there in my signature, but..just don't limit yourself to Cm10. Why?

Well not cm10, but cm10 based roms so pretty much anything that is 4.1+. Do they all crash and reboot? I know ics roms are at least more stable if not fine but I'd prefer to use jb over ics, if possible. The Blackstar X rom in your signature is ics based right? I'm not limiting myself but just wondering if jb is stable enough yet.
My main question is if I can run jb roms and use the Note on Wind mobile, and if so which radios to flash. If I can't do that then I'll only be able to use ics roms so of course that's what I'll have to work with.
Just buy the t-mobile version of the note and unlock it. It will work on Wind perfectly with stock rom and modem.

Yes. The link I posted on PAGE 1 is the answer, pretty much sure of that. (They should work regardless of a JB ROM, but heads up on ROMs that include a modem/radio. In that case repeat the modem/radio flash process. For that, again, see page 1. Or here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573568 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769255 All have the same results. Don't think I'd even find one up here in Canada. I've seen one a few months ago on craigslist or kijiji but none since then. I'm stuck with the i717 series sadly

So there's no distinction between gb/ics radios and radios that would work on a 4.1+ rom? That's all I'm asking. And regarding searching for answers - I've searched multiple times and I have not found a straight answer, either they are half-fixes or people disagree and still have the issue. That's why I posted this. Just looking for a straight up answer if it exists.

Don't know what you're trying to show me here. The different Note models? I know about those, but only the i717 works with aws does it not?
I know you're trying to help but maybe you're misunderstanding me - I already know how to flash the radios, I know that I need to flash a gingerbread radio to get aws working on gingerbread roms and the same for ics. My question is, is there something different I need to do to get aws working on jellybean roms (whichever rom it may be, not just CM10), or what? The point of me asking is so that I can know if my phone would work or not using a jellybean rom, I won't waste my time buying it and then being forced to use ics if jellybean roms are THAT unstable (without fixes) and if there's no aws compatibility. Saves me time and helps me make my decision.
That's all I'm asking. If you do know the answer, please help, but pointing to threads that don't have the answer or telling me to search vaguely does not help. Thanks
Yes, I've pointed you to the answer, yes, as many yes ways as yes possible. But to truly find yes for yourself you have to READ.
As far as (AWS) - Wind- Moblicity- T-Mobile are working for the i717 Note, and I have tried it just because I felt like trying it. Sadly, you stated, cheer up, the i717 is the T-Mobile Note, albeit without the required modem from my first reply.
BLACKSTAR X-SGH-I717 xda-developers app
The modem software you can flash will work for any Galaxy phone from Samsung. And it does not matter which rom you use. The modem software is for the phone hardware not for the rom
The BEST experience would be to use the t-mobile version of the note on Wind Canada.
The LESSER experience is the i717 with any rom and usually the Blaze radio (this modem software is pulled from a t-mobile Blaze 4G phone).
I have read a lot of happy comments from Blaskstar rom ICS users with their t-mobile expeience.

HTC One Cross Compatible stuff

Hi guys,
so what i've been noticing is there is alot of stuff in the HTC One international version section and i've heard and seen people running different stuff from there.
i think it might be a good idea to start a thread or something that can link to those specific threads about kernel's or roms that work on our phone. I've already loaded up a battery % mod from there that works with our phone. that might get the ball rolling.
from what i heard all the roms are cross compatible since pretty much no one adds firmware into their roms just the OS software and thats it. *correct me if i'm wrong*
though the one thing to be weary about is since the tmobile wifi calling is built into our stock rom if you want to keep it you'd have to mod the current rom file we're using. if you use the international roms it will not have wifi calling since their roms stock dont come with it.
Just a thought to get the ball rolling on roms. I'm one to not really care about wifi calling since i mean most of us are on the new tmobile non contract unlimited lines anyways so theres no need to worry about going over minutes. you'd be only worried about it if your out of the country or in a place that has really bad signal and want to use wifi to make a call.

Everything over there will work with our phone. I'm not sure why they made a different section.

Custom ROMs for the One Series

I just got the HTC One for T-Mobile last week. It is already rooted and all that fun stuff, but there is nothing in the Development section. I'm assuming that's because you can use any ROM in the HTC m7 section with any other variant of the phone? How does that affect the radio and things like LTE? I'm interested because the last thing I saw showed the new(est) update included a lot of improvements for the camera, but show no signs of being available OTA for T-Mobile anytime soon.
Yeah, we'll eventually get some devs for our phone specifically. In the meantime, you can indeed flash the international ones. Doesn't affect signal or anything because that's part of the radio, which is completely independent of the ROM. Do a backup, flash a ROM, and enjoy

^^^ This. Be aware you wont have wifi calling with an international ROM. So if you need wifi calling, be patient and wait for a dev on TMo to get a One and build
