[Q] screen rotation disabled while docked (asus tf103c ) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a brand new asus transformer tf103c hybrid android laptop if you will. I bought this with the full intentions of inverting this and roof mounting to my king ranch expedition. Only problem is that the screen rotation will lock when docked to the keyboard. The keyboard is how i connect the whole device to the ceiling of my king ranch. Once i leave the truck for any extended amount of time i undock and the tablet comes with me. OHHHH yes i have tried many apps.... including rotate settings the full pro edition, but no luck getting it to work. To be clear, it works without being docked just fine, but as soon as i dock the tablet... it thinks that im viewing it right side up!
Ive searched the forum for any help and found similar topics for older versions of the transformer, but all apps ive tried so far dont work.
im thinking theres got to be a way to alter the native setting for the docking screen rotation override... maybe even using root and just disabling the command that sets the behavior. Either way, i need help and im reaching to the forum for advice

[Q] TP thinks keyboard is open

Hey guys I hope someone can help me:
today I tried to fix my TP's dead keyboard (its been dead a while and im eligible for an upgrade so i figure why not) by opening it up and pushing in the yellow ribbon that comes from the battery.
It did not work but the problem is that my TP is now stuck in landscape mode because it thinks the keyboard is open when it is not. the thing still works fine but it is really annoying. I tried opening it back up and undoing what i did but still nothing.
Does anyone have a solution to get the screen back in portrait mode? I have been combing through the registry trying to find something to disable the keyboard or force the portrait mode again. Can someone help me please? I am trying to hold on to my TP for as long as i can!
Hey, I have the exact same issue now......I was trying to re-seat my keyboard connector...after doing so, I'm stuck now with the landscape screen. I've tried hard reset so far no good! Waiting for the fix!!
I have the same issue except I have never opened up my phone. My keyboard hasn't worked since March but since about August my phone has been flipping between portrait and landscape mode. Over the past three weeks I would say it says in landscape 90% of the time. Phone still works fine but it is frustrating as hell to use.
I have read and searched all over the place but haven't found a fix. I read somewhere that the TP uses a magnet to know when the keyboard is closed or not and when that magnet gets knocked loose or weak, the phone can't register it and thinks the keyboard is open. I don't know if that is true though. Seems like some program or registry item could 'lock' it in portrait mode...
I still love my TP but it is almost unusable at times like this. I wanted to wait until a new version of the Hero or something like that comes up but think I am about to say forget it and get an Evo

Keyboard Dock thoughts

Just got the dock today and wanted to share a few thoughts..
kind of clunky to attach but may just take some getting used to. Once attached feels just like a netbook
Loving the keyboard shortcuts. There's even a key to take a screenshot!
Have been trying to figure out whether there's any need to touch the screen when docked. Only thing I see so far is unlocking the tablet. You can even scroll within widgets
Wondering if there will be any apps that will allow for remapping keys. (i.e. assigning a key to custom app or shortcut
The overall feel is very nice and compact. The piece that holds the tablet looks weird when it's closed though.
The whole thing fits inside my Gtablet sleeve perfectly.
All in all, worth the money IMO. I can't stand typing on a touch screen and I can see that this will be my primary method of typing on this thing.
Post edited to remove thumbs up. Not stable at all
2nd edit (5/11/11) back to thumbs up after updating to the beta dock firmware
awesome.. want mine now!

Have you encountered the glitches with the touchpad being activated and the keyboard suddenly not responding? a number of us have including me. Disabling the touch pad seems to prevent the disconnections but really annoying nonetheless.

I've experienced it as well. Hopefully the next update will correct the problem, since the touchpad functionality w/gestures is very nice (when it works).
BTW, how do you disable the touchpad???
not once. been using it all day, in and out of the dock

Fourth button on the top row of the dock, the one with a slash on a dock symbol. It doesn't solve the problem unfortunately, at least in my experience.

Thanks - unfortunately it doesn't help me either.
Where was you dock from?
What firmware does your dock have?
Oh great! Now I'm starting to have issues.
1st I noticed the I was missing all apps from my home sreen. Dock/Undock fixed it.
Then I notced a big time lag in my typing. No biggie still better than touchscreen.
Then while playing around in Gallery I lost dock. Dock/Undock fixed it.
Also, the wifi is beginning to intermittently turn off. hitting wifi button fixes.
Now the lag is more noticable. Typing with it now and the letters show up about 1/2 second later. Sucks cause I was just beginning to learn neat tricks with the dock. For example, I was using 2 fingers to scroll, but learned it's easier to just hold 1 finger still and use the other finger to scroll.
Hope there's firmware fix made available soon.

I got my dock from AmericanTV in Peoria, IL on May 5th. Its running the default firmware it came with, whereas the tablet I have updated to the latest 8.2.3.9 firmware from the Asus website.

Thanks - I'm running the latest firmware as well for the tab. I'm assuming the dock firmware is what it shipped with (EP101-0207).
One other question: When the dock freaks out, does your battery status icon show a question mark over it?
No refresh button is a real bummer. I think this button is far more useful than say, the auto light button.
The backspace button is also really far for those of us who have smaller hands. But, this is something you can just get used to.
Does the hardware keyboard support languages other than English? Can you change the predictive input dictionary language and/or the keyboard layout?
Can you type, for example, German or Japanese on it? What about typographical symbols that don't have a dedicated key (like dashes)?
Delay, there are supposed to be regional keyboards available in the future.
I don't have mine yet, so I can't expound on detail regarding settings in the TF, but I doubt one will be able to simply change the language of the keyboard without changing the language setting of the whole OS. Also the keyboard will probably still output English characters.
Got my dock yesterday, and UPS just dropped off my TF a couple hours ago ( ).
Anyway, I just 'mated' the TF to the dock for the 1st time, and it did not sound good / did not go well. Didn't want to go down, and it seemed like it was getting hung up on something. I slid the latch over, and pulled the TF back out and a tiny little piece of black plastic fell onto the desk (very tiny... like 1mm x 1mm).
I finally got it to dock ok, but the little sliding latch isn't automatically sliding all the way to the right. It only goes about 1/2 way, then I have to sort of help it along to get it all the way over.
Anybody else had this problem? I'm wondering if I have a faulty dock.

Is it supposed to go all the way over? I've just assumed that it was designed to only go halfway. Now I'm really curious what other people's docks are doing.
Mine only goes halfway if my TF isn't clicking in completely to the dock. It does go all the way over as long as I push down and get both sides to click in.
I haven't had any problems with the dock yet, no problems with wifi, no problems with touchpad *knocks on wood*. I did experience some lag typing into forms, but no more so than with touchscreen keyboard on stock browser, so I don't think that was dock dependent.
The only issue I have with the dock is I don't believe there's a button to the multitasker. I want to be able to move between programs more easily while docked. I don't want to have to touch the "monitor" every time I want to multitask. Also, I need the touchpad to register pinch to zoom. I'm hoping these get updated soon.
Has anyone tried an SDXC (not SD) card in their dock yet?
Yes it is suppose to go all the way over. If it's not going all the way over for you, then the transformer is not COMPLETELY flush with the dock. Meaning that, when you close the transformer down with the dock it should be smooth all the way around.

Viewsonic ViewPad 10s touchscreen calibration problem

Last month, buy a ViewPad 10s. Great device. Thanks to this forum I can install the market and install many things. Until one day, after seeing a movie (Mobo player) I started missing the touch screen. I could not even unlock it!. I turned it off and set aside. The next day started as if nothing had happened. But with the passing of a few days, began to fail often, and not resolved by switching off. Until today that is totally screwed. Not react as it should, and I can not access at all to any of the functions. Here's a short video of what I'm telling you.
(search in youtube "viewpad 10s touch screen problem", the one from chgalvez user)
I've tried calibrate.ini, and almost all .apk calibration apps that are in the forum. I've try as last chance to upgrade with an official rom from viewsonic(1.09), but dont' work neither.
Anyway I think I can't prove anything more as the touchscreen almost no response at all.
Anyone have an idea if there a method to calibrate from the outside, with a USB cable or something?
thanks in advance and sorry for my english...

It never worked here (first day I have it) and now I even can't pass lockscreen (with viewcomb and original software I even couldn't select a language to pass the homescreen).
Why can't this be done in recovery?
My screen problems seem to come from my gtab being very sensitive to cold. When it is warm it works great, but when it is cold it is nearly non-responsive.
Had a similar issue. I plugged in a USB mouse and unlocked it and got to my calibration and ran it... It worked like a charm after that.

No Auto-Rotate

I searched the forums and it seems almost no one is having problems with Auto-Rotate not working (found 2 posts - no suggestions besides factory reset which I just completed). If you are having this problem would you please respond to this thread. My auto-rotate was "sticky" even with base HC and now it just will not do it at all (and after the reset it hasn't yet downloaded ICS so that isn't the issue).
I did verify that the auto-rotate setting is checked in the settings -> display section and I have done a factory reset. So any other suggestions are welcome.
About my device - I have root and used SetCPU to fix the horizontal black bands in the display. My wifi is fine.
Since so few people have reported this issue I'm thinking it may be HW and I'll go ahead with the return I have scheduled for Monday (and I'll get another because I think the Prime rocks). I figure that black band issue didn't hit everyone either so maybe I can get HW that fixes both these issues. So if anyone has a good reason why this particular issue would be software please feel free to make that argument.
thx,
Craig
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this. I'm having the same issue with the launcher. All my apps rotate fine, but the launcher refuses to budge. I haven't tried a reset yet.
I disabled auto-rate during HC, and got my dock on the night ICS download opened, so needless to say auto-rotate became a forgotten memory as I haven't de-docked my tablet since.
When this happened to me they told me to wait for ICS and still no rotate. It is a software issue because when the OS would boot wrong meaning images screwed up the rotate would work. After reboot back to no rotate. I returned mine

I have been having problems too. Initially i thought it only happened when I used the keyboard dock, but then it seemed to happen after waking it up from sleep. I have been in touch with Asus uk about this and the GPS and two dead pixels over the last two weeks and they said it was a software issue and would be fixed. Now after ICS it is worse, today it happened 4 times and this time straight from turning the pad on. I have also found that scrolling and typing very difficult when the pad is placed on a surface, it loses the touch sensibility and is out when touching links.
I have decided to return it now as this concerns me that it could be a hardware faulty rather than software. I would have kept it otherwise even down to the gps and two dad pixels issue. Still going to order another as it is very good.
I have the same issue with auto-rotate. I go and uncheck the setting then check it again. Have tried rebooting as well and I still have the issue.
mine has not done that yet, only time it wouldnt rotate is when it was docked. I kinda wish it would because i was using an app that only runs vertical, and i really didn't wanna undock it.
Mine seems to be getting worse. Yesterday and today the rotation does not work from booting it up. I have changed the live wallpaper to see if that helps and from rebooting it allowed the screen rotation. Not sure whether coincidence or not but the screen rotation is still working after 3-4 hours. I did have the asus live water on and now changed to asus day scene. May just be coincidence but It was getting to point that the screen rotation was never working...
You are correct. As soon as I changed my Wallpaper to the original generic, Auto-Rotate works great.
Update - This only worked for a short period. MANY things cause the auto-rotate not to work: a) many apps will break the auto-rotate features; b) docking/undocking at times breaks the auto-rotate feature. I experimented with this all day. I reset to factory default, installed only a couple basic apps, etc. I could get auto-rotate back after doing a few things, but it would not continue to work. Have not found a solution yet. Will update this post if I find one. Thirty-day timeline, though, is running out for me.
Hi,
I'm having the same problem with my prime (got it from amazon germany on dec. 30th). However I think it started with ics-update and hadn't happened before this (although I'm not sure)... and gradually got worse.
Besides this: my currently "fix" is to start elixir2, go to sensors, check gyro-sensor and go back homescreen. After this procedure the rotation is working again for some time on my prime.
Nevertheless I thinking about RMA as gps is not working (actually no deal as I dont intent to use it), too and today my prime just went off and didnt wanted to start again for like 4min (very very very long pressing of power-button + usage of external power did the job).
RichieG1 I don't mean this in a creepy way, but I want to have your babies.
I changed the wallpapaer from the ice blocks back to the stock pretty tree, did an off/on and now my screen is rotating for the first time since ICS upgrade.
Also, Transformer Prime rocks.

[Q] Non responsive Touchscreen areas tablet

On my Eee Pad Transformer Prime some areas of my screen does not respond at all to the touch, its very irritating since I can't even type some words who come under that dead areas, then I have to rotate the tablet to get that alphabet in some are responsive area.
I am not sure if its a hardware issue or software issue, I tried formatting the tablet but its still not working.
If anyone can help solve this issue then It will be great help, otherwise this tablet is getting useless for me
Thanks in advance

When it happens again, keep the tablet on but the screen should be off. Then clean the screen with sweater, woolly etc.(It should have wool inside to work) It works like a charm.
It happens me twice in a week, i use this method. Before this method, the left side of my tablet did not work for days.
Just try it and let me know if it works
