Do not keep activities means No application run in background. selecting this option will prevent any app to run in background.. While kill app usually refers to killing foreground app.

Don't see the point in killing apps. This beast has 3G ram. Really your phones need some apps running in background. There is a reason for that. Just let your phone do his thing.

Sorry, where is the developer option located fit Note 4.

what worked in note3 does not seem to work in note 4
Ok so forget the developer screens and all that. . All we ever had to do was hold down the center home button from the home screen and all the open apps would show tiled from top to bottom of the page. You could just swipe them closed from there. .. but this does not seem to work now. ... so what is the new way of doing this same action? ??? (Don't want to have to justify WHY just want to know how to do it now thanks )

Now u need to tap the recent app button there u can swipe to close the apps or choose to kill all the background apps

Multi-Tasking

Is android as bad as apple? Iv come from a N900 and it was simple. You pressed a button and the app was sent to the background (still running) and then you press a different button to see all the apps running in little windows..
I dont even know how to close a app for good or keep it running in background and how to see whats open and whats not without a app killer app?
Am I missing something?
As bad as apple? Nope...but i am also waitin' for this "button". =)

there's no taskswitcher built in, there's obviously lots out there, but that doesnt mean it has no multi-tasking as you can press the switch apps by going to home screen and trigger the app again which has been running in the back ground.

How do I do this dont get what I press? It seems to have a mind of its own and I never know how to close the app for good or keep it running..
sorry new to android..
to close most well behaving apps you use the back button, holding down back button will close whatever app you are using with just one press.
some apps will stay resident (but not active) in the background if you press the home key once which should drop you back to the homepage.
on the streak if you hold the home key down then you get the switcher screen and across the bottom there's a list of recently used apps, so you can switch between apps that way..
I'm also new to android and learning quickly
tbh I've tried a few taskswitchers etc and have jkAppswitch at the mo because it works well, but that method above works ok as well.
I wish Dell had given us a basic drop down taskswitcher..

[Q] Long press back button to kill app

Long press back button to kill the current app. Cyanogenmod and MIUI Roms already have it :good:
Unnecessary and battery consuming apps can be killed right away without the trouble of going to the application menu every #@! time...
Can some developer perhaps make this possible for the XPS?
Swipe the app away from the list when you long press home.
its not nessesary if you use the go back button to quit the app and not the homebutton.
and open, but recently not used apps dont needs battery but to close apps all the time if they have boot recivers needs alot of battery

Ah i thought not all apps close when pressing the back button, but i just tried it again with some apps, but they do close unless they are necessary in the background offcourse but i was more concerned about cached processes, do they use battery or resources (except RAM) can they restart themselfs and maybe for example connect to the internet

Thanks that ROM uses a modded version of the Xperia S home launcher! :good:
Do you also know about cached processes, (except RAM usage) can they restart themselfs and maybe for example connect to the internet or do something else. Or is it just cached 'frozen' in memory and nothing more, until its needed again on command

Quick tip for rom users

If you cant stand that knock off is gone on your custom rom that you have happily flashed on your g2... ive noticed alot of people asking so here is a few solutions if you already dont have one! Got a better way? Suggest it! Will edit if necessary.
1. If you dont use google now from your home button swiping up... download the app in the link below!
{FOR CYANOGENMOD USERS} Your rom already comes with a toggle for this... accessible from SETTINGS>>INTERFACE>>QUICK LAUNCH SHORTCUTS... obviously slide up and set it as "Screen off" towards the bottom of the list.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en <<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have that downloaded you can now swipe up like you would normally access google now... it will now give you the option to set a default for the screen off application, do it and now you can swipe up from anywhere on your device (Even the lockscreen) to turn off your screen without having to touch the buttons on the back! (Now i noticed when i was running an AOKP rom this didnt work every time as due to the fact every time it would shut off it would turn right back on... if thats the case for you try out option 2!
2. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] This is a simple bit, but your rom might not have this capability... if you go to your navbar settings you should be able to enable long press actions for buttons... select any button you'd like and set the long press for the application you have downloaded!
3. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] And lastly your third option... this should be if neither option 1 nor 2 work for your custom rom which they should... This one however is not easily accesible from any screen on your device only your home screen... first things first download that application above, now you download a launcher such as Apex launcher which i would reccomend because it allows this without paying for the full version and i tend to like apex alot better, from there go straight into your apex settings and go to behaviour... check out those gestures and set that application as your gesture! Nova launcher's is pretty self explanitory if you have prime. after that your good to go! Easy accesable screen off techniques you cant live without on the g2, hope this helps some of you!
I have another idea. Use GMD gesture control and use the edge of your screen to turn off the phone, or even double tap the nav bar (the app is ridiculously useful)
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
Another option for CM Roms is to use the app below which gives you the option to Knock Off from anywhere on the entire home screen when using Apex or Nova and then have a double tap set or any other gesture you like up to execute this app.

thanks alot. due to that reason so many people dont want to jump custom rom as like me
GMD Gesture Control - > define 3 finger swipe down gesture anywhere to turn screen off. There you go, most comfortable solution.

Permission to add this?
My main reason for loving Knockon (and not jumping to any rom) is the wake up feature though. This is the first time that I have an android device where I don't rape the power button just to look at how pretty my lockscreen or launcher is.

Why wont my apps resume from where I left off in Smart Launcher 2?

I really like Smart Launcher and I'm just done customising it but everytime I open an app it just starts from the start.
I'm reading some stuff in Reddit Sync, I press the home button to quickly check another app and when I go back to Reddit Sync (or any other app) it doesn't resume from where I left. Of course I can open up my recents and go from there but I'm wondering if this behavior is normal?
I'm on a LG G2 4.4.2 by the way.
Try this .. Check settings-about phone-dev options then uncheck the Dont keep Activities if checked.. If this is not the solution, maybe the ram is insufficient

just wanna add that some apks normally do that error on resuming since the apk itself needs more ram for resuming..

Remap App Switch To Menu

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

very useful. menu for navigation is long long outdate. software nave or 3 dots is the customary way to go. adding a secondary menu button is redudant and unnecessary. my little ewww comment brought a lot to the table. you tryingt to call me out on it is less useful.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.
