2.5 Final Battery Drain Bug - Greenify

I just updated to the final version of 2.5 yesterday (I do belong to the beta program). I did see another topic for this battery drain but that was apart of the beta's for 2.5, which I don't recall experiencing but I could have easily missed one of those updates with it.
I'm using a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 with root and stock rom on 4.4.2, NH5. If there's anything else I can get or do for you Oasis Feng let me know.
Here are a bunch of screenshots, the first 3 are from when I initially noticed it at 3% battery left. Then I fully charged the phone again, restarted and wanted to see if the problem persisted and the 4th screenshot shows that.

I'm having the same problem.
I am not a beta tester. Have 2.5 from play.

Uninstall Greenify and reinstall it. Also dont greenify apps that are essential for system functionality such as Google Play Services or other apps which you use very frequently... There's a constant battle going on between the frequently running app and greenify and that can drain battery. I just greenify apps that I dont use frequently but their stupid services keep running in the background e.g.. Ebay, amazon, etc..

If you don't want those services, disable them with "disable service" or "myandroidtools".
Greenify last beta and 2.5 final both seem to have this battery issue. I have rolled back to 2.4.4 and no problems.

no such problem for me

This does not apply to me but thanks. I've used Greenify long enough and have not Greenifed anything recently and this battery drain just started to happen after 2.5 update. So while it seems not everyone is having this issue, I don't understand how there are going to be people are going to argue it doesn't exist and when few others are at least reporting it.

Thanks. I was hoping for maybe any kind of update to Greenify that may fix this issue rather than looking for a 2.4.4 apk and downgrading.

+1 my battery 35% to 0% in 3 hour

I have the same problem here, with the new version my phone becomes hot and the battery is gone in few hours.
With the 2.4.4 version I isn't have this problem.

To proof this:
Only data sync and WiFi was off during night.

Sorry for the battery issue among some users.
Could you please use BetterBatteryStats or other diagnose tool to gain a report of detailed statistics of wakelocks in Greenify?
Or use the following shell commands:
cat /proc/wakelocks | grep HyberSvc
cat /proc/wakelocks | grep Unlocker

Just give a snapshot
Now I am using version 2.4.4

The strange thing is I isn't have a great wake lock but my cpu isn't go to the deep sleep status when I am on greenify.
To discover this I reflash my rom, recover my backups and with the 2.5 I have a phone with a high battery usage and with the 2.4.4 no.
I'm on 2.5 now, Pardus rom on g2 and my phone have now a good use of battery.
Sorry but I isn't have more data...

I, for whatever reason, do not have a file called "wakelocks" in /proc/. I could not find much on the internet in relation as to why not either.
I think I will have to agree though with what cybernetus said above, because the phone gets extremely HOT, and I've seen elsewhere the CPU is constantly running at full speed. These pictures below seem to indicate that too.
Here are some screenshots from BetterBetteryStats. If this is not what you need or you need something else specific, let me know and hopefully I can get it for you.

Do you mean the battery issue appeared on your previous ROM but not on the current one? Both with Greenify 2.5?

I am guessing that question is for cybernetus as he was the one talking about that.
But just in case, or to help out more, I have not changed ROM's at all. I've been on this latest stock rom (w/ root) for over a month and half and just started to experience all of this with 2.5 final only. I don't recall having issues with the beta's, however I cannot recall if I used every one of the 2.5 beta's.

Thanks for your feedback, according to the statistics, it seems like the Greenify UI process is actually causing the issue, which surprised me a lot, as I put all my attention to the background service which was the first suspect in the past.
This also sounds more reasonable, since version 2.5 was mainly UI refresh. I'll further diagnose this issue and let you know if anything else is needed.

Hi, guys
If you are experiencing the battery draining issue, could you please do me a favor to test the beta versions of 2.5 downloadable in the bottom of OP. If you can find out which exact beta version introduced this issue, it could help me a lot to narrow down the code changes to inspect.
Thanks.

But I am sure that it was 2.5 beta4 which introduced the issue.

Event Log Service Wakelock issue?

Hi there. I am getting a bit obsessive about my battery life. I am currently losing about 1% an hour at idle which I know is pretty good but I want to get better!
Anyway, using BetterBatteryStats I noticed that Event Log Service (Google Services) is causing a fair amount of wakelock. I have searched the threads but did not see a solution. Is anyone else having this issue?
Do you currently have your phone set to 'Back Up My Data' in Settings > Privacy? I found this to produce a good bit of partial wake locks for me. Not sure if that's what you're seeing in BBS.

Hmm, I'll check this out tonight.
I think that simply having Google sync services enabled will cause drain to go up a reasonable amount, as it keeps everything in sync. Unfortunately AT&T doesn't help by having a rather short TCP idle timeout - I don't have the link for the article on that with me at the moment.
Usually some Google sync service or another is at the top of my wakelocks when idle. It went WAY up in some situations on the Infuse in weak-signal situations.
@Kadin, I tried turning off Backup in the Privacy settings and it had no affect.
@entropy, I hear ya about the Google sync thing but I know there are a lot of people with android phones whose Event Log Service wake lock is very low in terms of total time. I guess I will try and turn off Google sync and see what happens but frankly, doing this will take away a big chunk of the usefulness for me. I will report back to see what happens to the wake locks.
I also use Google Sync and I also noticed that this event was running for 1h22m which is a long time in my opinion. I would like to only use google sync for mail and calendar updates, is there a way to set it to sync on a timely manner?
I also have Managewakelock: partial UID, that has been running fro 2h35m. Anyone know what this is?
You could e.g. use Tasker for turning AutoSync on/off depending on your choice.
For example sync once per hour for 5 minutes, or sync when connected to charger, or if Wifi coverage is available.....
I am too fighting the Event Log Service and get a bit frustrated. This Android wakelock voodoo is IMHO just bad designed. There is no elegant way in finding the origin of the wakelock in many cases. Alarms come close to Voodooism. My phone (Atrix, CM7.1 - sorry for the crosspost) wastes a lot of battery with Event Log Service and Alarm Manager. "dumpsys alarm" is not helpful at all and if i like to get rid of Event Log Service, then Tasker, Titanium Backup and Abbyy Bizcard reader will stop working, as they miraculously need that lib (e.g. via vending). And why Event Log Service keeps quite often the phone awake without any trace of logging in e.g. logcat. So I assume, the phone likes to dial home - ET like - and does not give up on this - ET iike, too.
Revoking the permission of a wakelock to avoid the Event Log Service wakelock leads to nice Force Closes
My current solution is to move all google apps in /system,/data into a freeze folder and reboot the phone. But as other programs stop working, it is no good solution at all. So the battle continues....
Curious, if someone with extraordinary analytical power could break the voodoo and give a good explanation for the Event Log Service battery hogging.

I wish I could help but can only commiserate. Last night Event Log Service only accounted for 5s of wakelocks (379 times). The other night, it was well over 1 hour! So I have no idea either what is causing this.
Im begining to wonder if its a frozen app that is causing an issue and the log is being written to in turn? Anyone have a good way to view the log that the events is written to? May point in a better direction. I unfroze most of my serives to see if that makes any difference in the mean time.

Same situation. Charged my phone 100% before i went to bed...unplugged it and i noticed it had over an hour in the wakelock. Never got out of deepsleep though so i was a little confused. after 10 hours i was still at 97%
same problem here. don't want to repost but i had over 30 minutes of event log service partial wakelock yesterday with android OS using 40% of my battery (much higher than 1.5 hours of display on...not sure if this is a glitch in calculations though)

Holy smokes. 3% over 10 hours? Do you have any Widgets running? Is that in airplane mode? At best I get about 1% lost per hour with the phone not in use with airplane mode off.
You set any alarms or events in calendar by chance?
no alarms for me right now although it is something i use.
have lots of appointments in my calendar and subscribed calendars for work but very few that have alarms. and those events that do have alarms i need.

Been happening to me ever since I installed unnamed. The android OS thing anyway. I have been trying to track down what the problem is but have been unable to figure it out.
My Event Log Issues. Thought it was Task that did it, seems to stick with UnNamed too. Maybe 2.3.6? Or maybe Siyah. I do have an alarm, but the same one that wake me up for work since I got the phone.

[Q] Baseband version question

So I recently did an OTA update and didn't like the battery life it left me with. I then did the unroot thin with Odin and flash back to original stock everything. My question is this....what is the stock baseband version that comes with at&t sgs2? Right now I've got I777UCKK6 while running stock android 2.3.4
On a side note....is baseband version something to worry about? Also, is the new update to 2.3.6 doing the same battery drain to everyone?

KH7 is 2.3.4 and KK6 is 2.3.6 ....there are some ppl having issues with battery on the ota 2.3.6...so you're not alone. Link below talks about battery life with OTA 2.3.6

Reboot your device...it should say kh7 if you flashed back to stock. For some reason mine said "unknown" under baseband. A simple reboot cleared that.

There is a sticky thread at the top of the Development section with all the modems for our phone... you can experiment with them to see what works best for you.
If not rooted, you'll have to root again to flash. While your rooted, I'd suggest you create a backup in Cwm then try the SHOstock or UnNamed ROMs... both are bases on stock and both have fantastic battery life (much improved over stock). You'll get your current modem with both, but with either you can replace with what you want.
Okay. In the instructions it says there should be a yellow box that says 0:COM8 but mine says 0:COM4 does that matter?
Nevermind, I tried it once more and it's back to bone stock! Thank you so much for all the support!
AJ
FYI, there's nothing wrong with running KK6 baseband (modem) with KH7 firmware.
The modem and the rest of the firmware are fairly independent.
That's why modems are packaged separately from the rest of the return-to-stock package.
I never said thanks to you. I appreciate all your insight and hard work that you do.
May I ask...how does one know if they have the Android os bug?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
There is no actual Android OS "bug" - just bugs or misbehaving apps that drive AOS up by waking up the device multiple times.
If you have high drain and high AOS, you need to look through my diagnostic procedures in the Known Battery Drainers thread. If you go through them and have high wlan_rx or wlan_wake kernel wakelock counts, something wifi-related is making your device wake up. You need to run a packet capture (see battery drainers thread for info) to get more info.
Possibilities include but are not limited to:
The infamous BT-AMP bug - Packets with Ethernet protocol 0x886c once a second in the Shark for Root/Wireshark capture
Misbehaving router that spams ARP - lots of ARP packets in the capture, often once a second
Misbehaving app - network traffic arriving frequently at your device. Skype is bad news in this regard
Something on your network spamming broadcast traffic - Windows Client Backup, Dropbox LAN Sync, UPnP/DLNA SSDP traffic, etc.

TuneIn Radio is the perfect example for this bug!! If anyone wants to do an experiment. This App drives Android system, Android OS ( plus Media server) all top the Battery Usage Chart and drains the battery so fast.
I don't have tunIn radio, wish that was all it was lol. I don't know if I should try to return the phone for another one or not. I have also noticed that my Gmail has been taking forever to send email from my phone....it never used to!
Here are the screen shots of my phone after I have gotten home from work. Moderate usage nothing major. Checking Gmail, Internet browsing for a few minutes, and a few phone calls.

[Q] battery drops 30% overnight

Hi,
this probably was discussed already but can't seem to find anything using search.
My battery drops about 30% overnight with Wifi and Mobile data disabled, I'm coming from a HTC Desire which lost 2 or 3% under same conditions.
I noticed yesterday night that wifi-sharing took a lot of battery although I never used this and wifi was off.
I then rooted and installed titanium backup and I froze wifi-sharing and the samsung "hub" apps as this was mentionned on another forum as being a solution.
This morning however, no wifi sharing which is good, but I lost again 30%, this time just the "android system" took the most.
I'm out of ideas, this can't be normal right?
I am still running 2.3.3, there are no upgrades for my country currently
BB version I9100XXKE4
Kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build gingerbread.xwke7
I think I might be ready to start flashing ROM's now
Anybody any tips? I like my device as is so want to keep it as stock as possible but with better battery life and if possible editable power controls in the notification bar (I want to add "mobile data" also to it)
Cheers
B
- prefera
Since you are already rooted and want to stay as stock as possible then go to this thread here and follow the guide that Intratech gives and choose whichever firmware you want. they are all official releases and all stock as you like it.
Backup your rom though in recovery. Make sure you backup your apps with Titanium Backup and read the guides in that thread i gave you and you should be fine. Also install an application called BetterBatteryStats. That should help you find out what keeps your phone awake and what application causes it. That way you can either remove that application or just freeze it. Search for the app using google and you should have it in the first few results
Thank you for the info, I've installed betterbatterystats so before installing a new rom/firmware hopefully I'll figure out what's eating the battery
ps by saying "close to stock" I actually might have expressed myself incorrectly, I meant I didn't want major GUI changes like e.g. the MIUI roms... I've used go launcher on all my phones/roms anyway
If there are roms out there who can improve speed/functionality/customisation even more off course I'm very open to them
cheers
B
Normally i would say hyperdroid but that thread has been closed try checkrom or even in the android development there is loads of roms there to try out my friend.
Foxhound seems another good bet to though.

that is alot..no wonder your battery gets ****ed so quickly make it so you get emails every four hours than having it on push....or delete that app and use samsung email client...basically like outlook it is...great app and does not drain battery
I have an imap account set to check every hour and an exchange account without polling (manual) so polling is not the issue
I use enhanced email because this bypasses the exchange security (pin code that pops up all the time)
I had this on my desire without issues so my guess is that it's the sync for the calendar... it was disabled on my desire but on my S2 for some reason it was enabled so switched it off and I hope this sorts the battery drain issue

Battery Drain after XLA4?

FIRST AND FOREMOST!
I apologize for any spamming that may have lead you here, however I have a SERIOUS problem!!!
My phone will NOT enter deep sleep. 7 hrs of light use has brought me down to 35%
I've tried 4 XLA4 base ROMs. Currently on LiL ROM. and I can't seem to find out what the problem is...
I have 83 apps installed on my phone and my facebook and twitter sync every hour. I have a weather widget doing an update ever 2 hrs and I hardly ever have my GPS turned on. This same config on non XLA4 Roms used to get between 22-28hrs of life with similar or identical usage pending the ROM.
Is it me or is it just XLA4? I've noticed I seem to be one of the few suffer issues with these ROMs. Help would be greatly appreciated.

BBS DUMP
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BxNdtOAdgVzlI4z08BKqcYR2vX_keffnhAb_QkAlWPc/edit
Battery life on XWLA4 has been sort of shoddy for me too when I left the phone sitting doing nothing. I once left my phone off the charger over night and it only went into deep sleep 78% of the time. Android OS was at 35% of usage.
I'll need to do more conclusive testing.
I just don't understand what it is...
Me neither. Didn't get it at all with either UCKH7 or XWKL1.
Well in any event I hope someone can point out the error of my ways and get this thing up and going properly.
The problem is at the top of your BBS (Android System NotificationService); it's the sole reason for not entering deep sleep. I've never seen it, so I can't speak to what it is. Maybe someone around here can identify it; otherwise, post your dump in the BBS thread for a better chance of someone being able to identify it.
EDIT: Search the BBS thread for NotificationService in the meantime. Also, google search the term with "xda" behind it, and peruse those threads.

Not sure what's going on with yours but I was able to manage 6 1/2 hours of screen on time with LiLRoM v1. I have pics in the battery life thread in the general section as proof. I was using Entroypy's daily driver kernel but I'm not sure if that would have a huge impact or not. Your BBS dump shows that the Notification Service(Android System) is the main culprit of the battery drain. I don't know what exactly that counts as though.
Just posted in the BBS thread. hope someone can help...
Try any different kernels?
At the bottom of Siyah thread, I have a link to older versions. Some people like .7 & .9 more than newer versions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19650906
It looks like that NotificationService is firing multiple repeated wakeup events... I think Siyah's suspend lock frequency is 500 MHz, which is why so much time is there.
As to why - no clue, I've never seen this happen on LA4 myself.
Well I've expirenced the same issues with multiple kernels.
So far I've tried...
Siyah
2.6.7
2.6.9
2.6.11
2.6.12
Entropy's DD
02/07/12
02/15/12_A
02/15/12_B
02/15/12_C
02/18/12_A
02/18/12_B
I want to say its the base but I don't get why I'd be the minority having the issues.
It seems like the problem is app based. I would suggest that you do nandroid and Titanium backups and delete all apps that could start the Notification Services. I see facebook katana in your BBS log.. that's my primary suspicion. Before you remove all notification related apps, try removing just Facebook and Facebook Messenger (if you have that installed too) and see if it helps.
That should hopefully remove this problem. If it does, then start adding those apps one by one and find the culprit. If it doesn't, then post here and we can do some differential diagnosis.
UPDATE: Another reason why I think that Facebook could be the rogue app is that in Market page for Facebook, the version number is not explicitly mentioned.. it says that the version number depends on the device. I am not an app dev but I presume that with the change in Android OS, Facebook probably needs to handle notifications differently. Now if you used TB to restore Facebook from an i777 backed up version, that could be causing the problem.
Summary
PLAN A:
1. right now you see excessive notification service wakelocks
2. uninstall facebook and messenger and see if that helps
3. IF that helps, install facebook fresh from market (that should fetch the correct Facebook version)
4. ...
PLAN B:
1. right now you see excessive notification service wakelocks
2. uninstall all notification related apps
3. reinstall them one by one
4. ...

I'll do that now.
If you have apps like Facebook, its almost a necessity to download Autorun Manager. Through that you can disable those startup receivers that you can't through the interface settings on FB.
Might also help with other apps. One more time, its called Autorun Manager.

As per my post in the BBS thread:
OK I had a look at the thread you insist we post in. Have you carried out the suggestions?
Anyway, the issue seems reasonably obvious to me, but the app itself responsible isn't obvious. You're going to need to do some work to resolve this.
One of your apps is posting a notification - either a notification icon, or notification lights - that is stopping your phone going to sleep. Given that you have so many apps doing background activities, it's up to you to figure out which one it is. I would start by disabling notifications in facebook, and I think also Titanium Backup (are you doing automated app backups using TiBU?). But from experience, the app is likely to be your SMS app - for some reason, they have a bad rap for draining battery once a message is received but not read. Go SMS and Handcent both do this depending on configuration and random ROM/kernel/karma combinations.
Anyway, it's not kernel, it's a userland wakelock.
For your next BBS dump, do what we keep telling other people to do - charge the phone before going to bed, remove from charger, and leave it idle for a good number of hours. Then take a BBS dump with the view "since unplugged". Do this because there is little value trawling through a log that shows you normal work-day activities.
Cheers

Well I just disabled sync/notifications for facebook and twitter and I turned off notifications for go sms too I'll leave the phone idle for an hr and see what happens.
EDIT: I've decided the head ache just isn't worth it. I'm gonna do a full wipe and then flash UnNamed V2.2.1 and not restore anything through TiBu
It definitely has to be an app because this is an idle test of a fresh install of Shishir with Siyah 2.6.12 and Init.doh .35 Exp. Less than 1%/hour drop with twitter every 15 minutes, and google sync/backup/locations enabled.

Wow... Stock battery?

Does anyone else have battery drain issues with dolphin HD browser?

I've tried everythin I can think of to rectify it from different Roms to running a nuke script, also deleting and installing it but I always get the same battery drain which is quite excessive. the culprit seems to be mobi.mgeek.tunnybrowser
here are some screens

The stats from above are actually quite tame compared to usual. It's quite often using 45 + of my cpu and usually has a higher battery usage than the display.
Can anyone offer a fix. I don't want to delete it as i find dolphin by far the best browser and I've tried most other ones.
Of the battery you have used 33% has been used by the browser .
Battery 50% in just over an hour suggests browser on for that time and other stuff draining the battery .
Better Battery Stats thread and app is where you start .

Yes, I had same issue with Dolphin browser. Lost over 20% juice in less that half hour. Couldn't find any solution though. Just to check used Stock browser for same stuff and didn't have that much drain.
Also, it caused phone heating near camera..is it same for you?

Yes. Never really noticed it before but yeh my phone is roasting around about the camera lens.
JjEgan not really sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying something else is draining my battery? I used to have bbs and that usually identified mobi.geek.tunnybrowser as draing my battery.
I put a fully charged battery into my phone not even 2 hours ago and this is what my stats are now.
Be worth a check with BBS is what i am saying as its not a common problem reported .
Its certainly never drained my battery .

Same here
if we install the Dolphin HD themes " mobi.mgeek.tunnybrowser" will be running as a background process eating up battery , otherwise you will see it as Dolphin Browser HD eating 3% of battery. I dont understand why Dolphin HD browser need to run on background even if we are not using it ?
My phone is doing exactly the same thing if I close dolphin down and use only the stock browser I have no trouble if I leave.dolphin running ie. Just hit home screen or answer a txt or call dolphin will run battery down fastest than a 2 amp charger can charge it as soon as I close dolphin usually with task manager everything is fine . For me this a new problem and it started after I installed SHOstock v1.3
get rid of dolphin..... the stock browser with lab settings on is awesome.... faster and easier to use... in my opinion
Unfortunately Dolphin is the only browser which supports xmarks and Lastpass...
I switch between PC's and phone and tablet.. would be lost without them..
Matt
No one found a solution to this problem yet?
I'm now running stock ICS 4.0.3 unrooted and still have this problem
Ensure you're not signed into any accounts, Facebook etc via Dolphin
Phone menu/more/settings/accounts & sync/....

Hi,
I had the same issue and it was solved, maybe my solution can help you.
I have Uninstaller pro installed on my galaxy sii and thanks to it, I disabled some system services (like application update, email, fotaclient, google services) because I thought they were useless.
Yesterday I unfreezed them all and now dolphin works perfectly, it never exceeds 13%, before it went up to 35%..
