First you need to learn some basics about de-compiling and compiling APKs.
Read here about that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033415
After that you can decompile an existing theme and look in all files and see how stuff works. At the beginning most of it will not give any sense aside from the PNGs. You will recognice most of them.
What the theme-apk does is to make redirections to the one in the APK. All redirections are controlled in XML-files placed in res\xml
One master XML: redirections.xml
And the one XML for each app that is themed.
Aside from PNGs the theme also sets styles (colors, text-size and stuff) and sets what animations should be used.
In the root of the theme-apk you got AndroidManifest.xml.
Always make your own package-signature to avoid collision with other themes... package="com.thebest.theme.renz"
This is not a total guide... just to get you started.
Perhaps I should make one.

I port Theme Aneurysm link: that works on Z2 framework. The design requires minor tweaks but it is wonderful

Firstly, I'm not doing this just for myself but for other forum members to thank them for their work and applications from which I use.
Secondly android device code is the code open
Thirdly, I can change the name value pair and png files and his work called my name. But not this thing is.
Fourth, if you do not want to share their work for what it exposes the forum.
It can also encode your applications

I tried to port gradinet_bg.xml from drwable from this post and change line statusbar _bg from status bar.xml from layout from my systemui.apk and compile it again
but when open any xml in my computer by notepad++ I get strange characters like nul in black box and can't fix this problem any way I work on windows 8.1

search tutorial how to decompile recompile apk, how to make transparent statusbar on ICS, if you done with that I will sent you PNG with gradient effect, it better and easier than that gradient.XML
