Problem trying to root Acer Iconia Tab 8 - A1-840
Hi,
I have tried to root my Acer Iconia Tab 8 - A1-840-131U following this guide. Unfortunately, when CWM boots on my tablet, I am not able to select the package to install.
Here is the error messages :
E:installer device ignored
FASTBOOT INIT ...
E:Failed to mount device '/dev/block/sda1' as installer partition using fs_type 'vfat'
E:installer device ignored
E:installer device ignored
E:No valid installer medium found.
FASTBOOT CMD WAITING...
Could not open /sys/devices/virtual/blacklight
Does anyone know how I can overcome that problem ?
Thanks in advance !

Problem trying to root Acer Iconia Tab 8 - A1-840
Hi,
Now, I finally reached the same stage than M.Ray : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56580827&postcount=2158
Hope someone will find a solution ...

unable to run "run-me.bat"...
good evening ,
I'm sorry but I followed the tutorial but I get a message to the launch of run-me :
The specified path was not found. '' '' '' ' ' '' Is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
And of course it does not work ...
what should I do?

Not yet...
Well, I made a stupidity to install and it could not walk ...
Now I have another problem when I run run-me.bat (choice 2 / choice A2 / choice 1 / ACCEPT)
scripts will reboot my tab into Bootloader mode and start the exploit, but
I can now Vol+ / Vol- to navigate, and Power to validate
but I have not "install zip", instead some messages:
E:installer device ignored
FASTBOOT INIT...
E:Failed to mount device '/dev/block/sda1' as installr partition using fs-type 'vfat'
ition using fs_type 'vfat'
FASTBOOT CMD WAITING...
E:installer device ignored
E:installer device ignored
E:No valid installer medium found.
Could not open /sys/devices/virtual/backlight
I can only reboot but unable install Super SU

me too...
Unfortunately , I also finally arrived at the same result (with or without SDCard inserted).
There may be different sets of tablets with very slightly different characteristics ?

Excellent that worked.
It might be worth mentioning that actually rebooting into cwm recovery takes a while and it throws up various error messages in the process that can be safely ignored. These caused me to abort the reboot the first time. Giving it time solves all the problems others have posted above!
David

I have the A1409 edition according to the RMN on the box.
It also sucks that I only have 1GB of RAM in mine.
Do I still have root capability?

Hi David,
I need some precisions.
First, is your tablet the Iconia A1-840-131U (ducati2hd) ?
And if so, would you mind to give us more details about the manner you rooted that tablet ?
Thank you in advance.

Can I root this Acer Iconia A1-840FHD?
Android Version: 4.4.4
UEFI: 1.0.5
Kernel version: 3.10.20+
Image version: Acer_AV0K1_A1-840_RV0ERC02_WW_GEN1
Build number: Acer_AV0K1_A1-840_1.061.00_WW_GEN1
Image P/N: FM.NPSA0.013
So,does anybody know if it will root?
Edit:Anyone else have a backlight bright flash issue?
Mine is randomly having a brief light glitch for some irritating reason.

Yes follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-acer-iconia-tab-8-a1-840fhd-t2933317
Note that when the recovery is booting it takes some time and throws error messages just wait and it gets there then you can install the superuser.
Re backlight the intel chipset does some automatic adjustments to the backlight to save power.

re kumaraji.
No mine's a a1-840-19s6 ducati2fhd
I simply followed the method given. I did abort cwm the first time as it was throwing error messages. After checking the method again i restarted and let it continue despite the errors and it eventually got to the cwm screen from which i installed the zip i'd copied to the internal memory as instructed.

The 1gb means yours is an a1-840hd rather than a a1-840fhd - the hd is 1gb ram and 1280x800 display the fhd is 2gb ram and 1920x1200 display. From posts I've seen it seems this route method doesn't work with the hd only with the fhd

My product and safety information booklet says FHD on the front, maybe it is FHD with a 1gb chip slapped into it instead.
Or they are scamming me with a delusional booklet,or they are too lazy to print it to match the contained device.
Also,what about Root Master?
Can't find a fully english copy.
Has anyone tried Kingo,Vroot,or any other method?

I think we need to request the Kingo team to find a root exploit for it if one has not already been found.
Kingo is still active since the 20th of November's update.

A1-840 Root
Just wondering if this also works for the non HD version of the A1-840?? I don't want to try it unless i know it works with the non HD version. thanks!!!

A1-840 Root
Will this work with the A1-840? the non HD version??? i don't want to try this and have it brick my device.

I bought a sample model off someone and it looks like I got the hd model not the fhd so hopefully a root can be found for this model too.

Device:acer A1-830 4.4.2
Why my tab can not exploit in Bootloader mode ?
It showed "FASTBOOT CMD WAITING..." and stopped.
What step I did mistake.

It looks like there might be an updated file that might work with the hd model here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57227753#post57227753
I haven't had time to try it yet, though.

Windows To Go on Acer Iconia A1-840 FHD?
Hello,
I'm new in this forum, so I'm sorry if my topic doesn't match here.
Is it possible to run Windows To Go from an USB-Stick after rooting my Acer Iconia A1-840 FHD and enabling the Bootloader?
Cause I don't really like Android and want to run Windows 8.1 on the tablet.
Thx for an answer
Treymon

I install android with installer and when i press android on boot, i get this message.
error 15 file not found
How can i fix this? (i have windows 7 on my pc)
Booting
Got this installed on a Lenovo Thinkpad 2 - Booted the first time with the option of Android or Windows, but timed out and chose Windows on it's own. The next time I booted computer hung...and now it just goes straight to windows? Any idea how to get the boot option?
---------- Post added at 05:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:05 PM ----------
Never mind on the last post, got to the boot option, but no luck. I get the android option but it just gives me a black screen and says files are missing... " a required application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors"
I'll try some different versions...maybe that's the ticket.
[error 15 file not found] bootable usb format file system must be in fat32(default)
Also could not find grldr.mbr
I also have the same problem as #108 on a Windows XP Pro SP3 installing to a second ntfs partition of the drive.
I believe it is an AMD x2 2gig ram. Thanks.
Hi,
I'm wondering if I could download the "Android 4.4 KK" file and install it using this installer?
UEFI Support
Hey, I have an Asus Vivotab Note 8 (M80TA) Currently running Windows 8.1
I downloaded the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop x86 iso file from... um... somewhere within the interwebs (I've forgotten where) and so far your installer is the only one that my tablet plays nice with... even though when I try to boot to Android I get the 'no grlbr.mbr' error (because my device is UEFI)
I was wondering if and when this installer was going to get updated with UEFI support? I'm positively frothing at the mouth with anticipation!
Installted the same on windows 8.1 tablet.
Hi, I'm a beginner. I've bought Windows Tablet (Voyo A1 Mini). Upgraded to Windows 10.
I've tried the new one but failed. I have no permission to reply on that post.

Will this root method work with ASUS devices?
The thread title (Intel Android Devices Root / Temp CWM Session) suggests this is a generic rooting method for tablets with Intel SoCs. Is there any reason why this shouldn't work with the newer Intel Atom-based Asus tablets such as the MeMO Pad ME176CX? The current and as far as I know, only rooting method, for the ME176X uses an app called RootZenPhone.
RootZenPhone appears to use the same exploit as your script-based root method, but wraps it up in a APK with obfuscated asset names. (Note: I ran clamscan on both the APK and your files, and both tested positive for the exploit). I prefer your method because it has a cleaner, more opensource design. I can basically read what it's going to do, at least up to the point where you run the exploit.

It should work I've tested it on Medfield, Clovertrail, and Baytrail devices, from the Asus fastboot.imgs I've looked at trigger 2 and 3 should work.
the apk you refer to i believe actually uses a function Asus only seems to of built into thier droidboot binary on the Asus when you start droidboot it looks at /factory for a file called .addon and then triggers it Asus uses it for automating things under droidboot I believe and several recoverys have been built to take advantage of it.
As for the exploit the exploit is the the script the binarys are nothing really special just responsible for setting up and starting the recovery session. recovery.trigger is a simple daemon to launch recovery.launcher and recovery.launcher is basically a small subset of cwm recovery its self.

Hi,
this worked on an odys intellitab 7, now i got finnaly root . BIG THX!
Btw I trird trigger 2 and 3 and both worked for me
How can i see if the bootloader is locked on my device?
Another possible device
Hello,
in Czech forum where I compiled a native-language short guide how to use your tethered CWM recovery to root Op3n Dott (I see that somebody confirmed that both T2 and T3 triggers work] one Slovak user reported that he was able to use the tool to root Prestigio MultiPad Thunder 7.0i http://www.prestigio.sk/catalogue/M...NDER_7.0i#/product-specs?article=PMT3377_WI_C. I sent him a question concerning which trigger did he use so if he replies I will send more info. Sorry for the Q&A thread, but I got kicked here because of the low post count.
Succesfully rooted Tesla L7 Tablet
Using the method described successfully rooted Tesla L7 tablet. The method used is T3 and supersu used is UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40
Is the recovery built from source?
Hello, one more question - is the recovery built from source by you, or is it a ready-made recovery from someone else? Because if you have your own tree an are building it from scratch, it might be possible to include the call of my tool used for dumping images (dump_images from merrifield_bin of dell-venue-boot-tools for signed images and possibly a renamed one from zte_gxi_boot_tools for unsigned images) to /sbin/nandroid-md5.sh script and add the tool(s) to /sbin. I know it is not the best solution but at least it would be possible to backup the images if not restore them from CWM.

The actual recovery is built by @vampirefo but i am very interested in adding that feature in and was actually going to ask you about that.
Also have you looked at any of the older update_osip source?
Can you please tell me an easier to understand method.
Because even though i understand what you're talking about, i don't know where to put the files. I understand flashing the session and all but coukd you pleeease explain how to root. Because this the first time i'm rooting a device

Fajfie, thanks for posting. That's awesome. If you used Windows, how did you get Device Manager to identify the Dell Venue 3740? I've downloaded all recommended driver files in this and the previous thread and I can't get Windows to identify the device. When I run launcher.bat I get DEVICE: UNKNOWN.
Any ideas?

Great work, this worked to gain root on Medion (Lenovo) Lifetab S10346 tablet.
Intel Z3735F cpu
2GB ram, 32 GB storage.
I used trigger T3 and it went through smoothly, a Great bit of work.
Works perfectly on the Asus Padfone X Mini. I referenced this thread over in the device specific forum. I used the T3 command in step 3.
Thanks!!!
Worked on my ASUS Padfone X mini (TOOS) used T3 option.
Thanks!
Thanks you. The procedure works with method 3 to GoClever Insignia 700 PRO , Android 4.4.2.

[Q] Lenovo Note 8 (A936) Golden Warrior ROM

Hi !
Just picked up this big phone from Aliexpress and I want to put a custom ROM on it (preferrably Lollipop). I've searched the forums but can not find anyone that is doing anything related to this phone.. The specs are as below:
Processor - Octa-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53, Mediatek MT6752
GPU: Mali-T760
RAM: 2 GB
Internal Memory: 8 GB
It seems there are a couple of other models running on this processor (HTC Desire 626, 526G, 820s)...
Anyone working on anything related to this phone that I could try out ?

Hi Pavillo, all,
any luck with getting the 2g ROM?
I just received the device yesterday - it came somehow rooted with tons of CN bloatware, while MTK droid tools 2.5.3 was unable to access the root shell to make a backup. After few tweaks I made the su working (reinstate the superuser using the chanfire SuperSU + adbd insecure shell v2.0, but I'm not able to Create scatter file (button greyed out, probably unknown to the tool), what I see on the list is within attached jpg. I'm happy to create the dump, however seems I'm not savvy enough to prepare it using mtk droid tools.
I contacted the supplier to provide stock rom for this device, because with mine I'm not sure it wasn't somehow modified.

Thanks Yiminghung!
Edit:
I checked the scatter file against my partinfo and it seems to fit my 2g ram / 8g rom version!
Created a dd backup of my partitions to get the courage to replace the system partition from your dump - and it worked!
However the dump is CN version (no google play, no root, ton of bloatware) so I reverted successfully back to my original version..
I found this on the web, it's in three parts, but I was a bit loathed to fulfill the advert criteria before downloading it, so it's untested. I did message the dev to check it was dual SIM and he answered so it sounds legit. Would be good if someone could download the rom, combine the three parts and post it here?

Hi, imho this is a fake to earn money using the surveys, the whole page looks weird. I cross-checked the CN forum bbs.ydss.cn/forum-lenovo_note8-1.html and there is no lollipop rom, and I guess these guys are in front of the ROW.
Yeah, I was suspicious myself, could definitely be fake but I was very surprised to get a reply from the dev when I emailed him to ask if it would support dual SIM. That said I wasn't brave enough to fill in the ads! I'm just hoping someone can access those downloads without the ads.
What to do to download

Hi, use translate function in google chrome as I did . I managed myself to reply to some of the topics - just a single reply enables the download link- so ultimately got to the download; usually it points somewhere to pan.baidu.com ... but honestly not too much of a use unless we will get a recovery in other than CN language. I've posted the request for cwm also in that forum. However I suspect these ROMs will be CN only, while we need ROW version.

Hi all,
just to share my enthusiasm - I just got my Lenovo A936 (2g RAM/8g ROM) loaded with EN CWM recovery.
Prereq is rooted device (mine came rooted, I just switched the su app with my favorite SuperSU from chainfire) and adb (e.g. adb-setup-1.4.2.exe, could be found on xda forum).
Afterwards I used PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery executable v7 - it requested only to provide boot.img and recovery.img from my device that I created simply by adb & dd command.
After completing the setup automatically by the executable, voilla it rebooted into EN CWM recovery. Very simple!
I can dump my recovery and boot.img that might be of a good use to others.
Credit goes to yuweng!

I am trying too to root this Chuwi... With the 1st attachment, it was created a temp file in "0" space. With the new attachment, its created in tmp in sdcard1. Does this stay correct in my case? Thanks in advance.

Hi!
If possible please upload anywhere the original chuwi Vi7 rom.
Thanks!
Hi,
Yes, there is a 0 byte file created (that is what the touch command does)
This is so that custom recoveries can check for the presence of the file and then ´know´ the phablet is rooted.
Vi7 can not switch wify on
dear
i am VI7 seller
jsut sell out 2200 orders out
now our customer just do not switch the wify on
they need to brush teir tablet
but i just do not knwo how to brush it
would you give me a instrunction ?
Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that I made a similar rooting procedure and script for the Chuwi Vi7. I got good results using SuperSU instead of Kingoroot.
I posted it on this Github repository:
Code:
https://github.com/Pacien/vi7-root
thanks for your contribution, cleaner coding than mine
Just 2 observations...
1) you do not verify that remount worked
2) line 39
rm /system/bin/install-recovery.sh
you loose the original patch command in the file
should be instead:
mv /system/bin/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery-2.sh
This way it will still be loaded.
Also ... why do you ask to install superSU on data when the script is installing it on system?

Good point, I should really have put a check here! I'll correct that!

I actually do make a backup copy of this file on line 38, naming it `install-recovery.sh.bckp`.
I'll change the script to name it in the way you mentioned so that it will still be loaded.

In fact I did not have realized that the APKs put in `/system/app` would be automatically extracted x)
The format is
/system/app/appname/appname.apk
(used to be different in older android builds)
Now the next challenge is to unlock the bootloader so a custom recovery can be put together with a Vi7 specific fstab.recovery
Personally I will start once I get my hands on a Vi7 with a working touch screen

I registered on this site just to say a big THANK you for this.
I've never touched android devices before, and promptly bricked this tablet. your guide to reflashing it saved me.
One note that I had to do to get it to flash, was fastboot oem lock. It will not work unlocked. Also, it still took under 30 seconds to flash correctly for me, so having that as a check probably isn't valid for everyone.
Chuwi VI7 Gapps not present
Hi,
Recently i have bought a Chuwi Vi7 Tab from Aliexpress.
On making it on , i didn't found Gapps ,which is a basic app for mobile phones and Tab .
I tried multiple times of installing Gapps but its of no use.
Please help.
Subho
At 1st boot there are no Gapps, but - if you check the 'Update...' tab in Settings - you'll see there's an update firmware available. If you proceed to install the update, then you'll have the Play Store...
At least, that was my case.

Thanks for your reply.
Are you referring to the update which is there inside settings
Settings ---> About phone --> system update.
If it is the same , i already have tried but its showing me no new update available.
If you are referring of some other update then please specify.
Do you have the update stored in your TAB , in that case if you can upload the same ,

Yes, I' m reffering to that one.
I'll specify the version I installed the moment I arrive home...
The current version I have on my Vi7 is:
CW-Vi7-20150724-1900
Quick question: how many partitions and what size each of them has?
On mine there's only one partition - Internal storage - with some 3.6Gb (after installing a few GPS apps only 1.5Gb free).
I'm pretty intrigued as my other tablet - a Pipo S1 Pro - with similar features has two partitions: a 2Gb Internal storage (on which apps are installed) and a 4.5Gb NAND flash (at my discretion).

When you have received the Tablet, was it pre-loaded with Gapps and other softwares.
As my Tablet is not having any of the important software.
When I received the tablet, there was no Gapps present (not even PlayStore). I had no possibility of adding a Google account to the tablet (only other mail account or Exchange account). I downloaded a playstore apk, installed it, but couldn't make it work.
Then I searched for updates, found the update mentioned above, installed it and added Google account (it was now possible); concerning Gapps, only Play Store was installed as part of the new update (if I remember correctly)...

In the 1st post towards the bottom there is now a mega link with a full rom to flash that is NOT the crane but the Chuwi v1.1 with gapps installed
I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread but it seems this is the only place to ask.
Is it possible to save/move apps to a SD card? i can't find any option to do so and app2sd report this tablet doesn't support. not rooted and stock
Part I: description on this ChuWi vi7 tablet with 1GB RAM and 8GB flash.
Intel x3-C3230RK (j.v. with Rochip built by 28nm TSMC fab, has 2x 512KB L2 cache) SoFIA
which runs 32-bit Android 5.1.1.
Quad Core CPU is clocked at 416-900MHz (728MHz nominal) is a bit weak (Intel data brief says it's 1.2GHz x 4): GeekBench3 321 & 956.
I think the tablet is downgraded for thermal throttling (plastic case, not metal.) Suspect SDP is somwhere in between 2-3W.
GPU is ARM Mali450 4-core clocked at 600MHz which Antutu gives high score (at 1280x600 LCD resolution.) It should be good at 1080p (not on this tablet.)
It has 3-axis accelerator, USB OTG, GPS and single SIM slot. Proximity sensor seems to be emulated by touch screen multi-point. Li-Ion is on low capacity (~2500mAh) side.
This tablet when first received from China, there is no Google Play Store nor rooted. After performing phone system update, Google Play now works.

Part II Rooting and mishaps
Rooting is difficult.
Find adb 1.0.32 (exact version needed) and install in a Windows PC (C:\adb).
Install Intel Android device driver first, then (Volume up then plug-in the USB, wait for 15 seconds.) Wait until in Device Manager the Vi7 device is recognized as the Intel Android Device.
At the same time, the tablet screen should show the Android robot with a minimal menu.
I transferred the files (unzipped, from main thread, first post) and
Using XDA vi7root script indeed gained the root.
However, I immediately found the Play Store problem, can't install any app (error 504) nor the existing apps can be updated.
---------- Post added at 01:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:24 AM ----------
Hope this could help:
After Intel Inside flash screen,
It shows one additional screen right before the Home screen showing up.
Android is starting...
Starting apps.
==============
Also the vi7rootscript removed these (and others):

googlepinyin.apk
/data/dalvik-cache/x86/[email protected]@[email protected]@classes.dex
/data/dalvik-cache/profiles/com.android.launcher
/system/app/dataapp/chiweimarket.apk
Can one of these related to Google Play?
Thanks

Need Help to Root Tab (uncommon)

As said by @Primokorn, my device is very rare and so I am cross posting here for additional help.
Hi,
First of all Device specs :
Device : Quantum QPulse 100s (Not chinese, its middle eastern company)
Processor : Intel Celeron N2805 1.46GHz
RAM : 2GB
OS : Windows 8.1 Pro, Android 4.2.2 (Dual Boot)
So as the title says, i need to root my android, here goes my story...
I tried so many methods to root but was unsuccessful
Here are the points to first notice :
1. Android is a custom built android but build id matches with nexus phone ( idk why )
2.There is NO BOOTLOADER.
More on that :- The tab itself is a mini PC, and i found out it has BIOS, and in the BIOS I found 2 options,
a) EFI BOOT
b) Windows management blah something we are not interested right now.
I found out that android has an EFI boot and we can go to the EFI SHELL but i found no use of that.
3. You CANNOT connect it to a PC using a USB cable.
Ask why ? Because the tab itself is a host system and in no way can you connect a host to another host. Except maybe networking.
Now for the INTERESTING Things WE can USE :
I found a way to mount all the android partitions on the windows os and I can write to those partitions.
Now i did place supersu.apk, su, busybox to the folders they need to be, but in android terminal app it says su permission denied.
Probably some permission problems. I have tried giving chmod in terminal app and moving those files to system/bin later. But didnt work
Also no root apps, such as Kingroot, Towelroot etc are working.
Beware again - You CANNOT use USB using methods.
I need root so i can install gapps, and also because i like root.
So, I need The XDA help
waiting. . . .
3 day bump.. awaiting any useful reply..
I dont want anyone to go deep into the device but it would be useful to tell me how to root a android, whose partition is accessible from another OS ( windows 8.1 )
-_-

Why no reply guys, a week and half past the post and i have nothing. Is that the geniuses here dont know how to do this or they didnt read it yet ?
Common, this is in no way "noob friendly" forum says. If you want me to believe in the previous line forever, then don't post anything, otherwise HELP me. Is there no one out there who can solve a simple problem or are they not willing to do anything, I think I have already waited for a month and i think it was plenty time for at least one reply or suggestion. You guys are dissapointing me
