[Q] Does your Nexus 9 detect Ok Google hotword when screen is off? - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have heard that Nexus 9 comes with Always listening mode, but I can't seem to get it working.

Mine works... App Drawer / Google Settings (not settings) / Search & Now / Voice / "OK Google" Detection / check all 3 tabs.. How did u not find this?? haha

All three options are checked, but hotword detection only works when I press the power button, not when the screen is off.

Is your device rooted?
When I update and rooted my Nexus 9 for the first time, somehow, it kept the old kernel, not the "Q" one. And had some issues like lag, adaptive brightness and inability to use "listening mode".
I installed and rooted again and everything was solved, including the listening mode.

Are you using English as primary language?
An app conflicting with Google voice?
Check everything again. Maybe you are missing something.
I'm running out of ideas. Sorry.

I tried a factory reset and it seems to be working now although it's a little inconsistent. It stops detecting when the tablet is not used for some time but a reboot fixes that.

Glad it worked.

My first Nexus 9 didnt work, but my second one which immediately updated to the newest version did work.

Inconsisten behavior here too. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. After a reboot everything seems to work just fine, but then it starts to fail here and there. Not smooth, anyway.

Inconsistent behavior with screen off. I'm on the latest R release (fresh factory image install).

mine did today, in a carry bag, while is was using the n7 while driving. this is why I want a customizable hot word I can set per device. how hard can that be.

Any new suggestions on this?
I am on 5.0.1 and "OK Google" works from locked some time after a reboot, but then it stops working and is only working when on a home screen and screen on.

Does this work properly and consistantly all the time for anyone?

I also have this problem and think it could be to do with the proximity sensor, the speaker button touches your face before the screen turns off. I have been careful to hover the phone next to my ear for a second or two before placing it on my ear to make sure the screen turns off and haven't had a problem since. Try that it may help

Chrome is to blame!
It's observed that the latest Chrome caused this strange issue. As long as you disable Chrome (or uninstall the latest update) the problem seems gone. I do also noticed that during phone call with BT headset, if I open Chrome the phone will also enable Speaker phone immediately.
Please test if this is the case for you. Several people in a Taiwanese forum confirmed this issue.

I can't turn off that ability either in the hidden App Ops.

I am not sure if it's permission related (it should be...) and App OPS is kind of weak in this. Thus I suggest just try to uninstall or disable Chrome then check if this still happens. (you can disable Chrome via Titanium backup if the "disable" function is disabled in Setup-->Application)

how to remove incoming call with voice promts!!!

whenever I get an incoming call with caller ID, a lady's voice would voice prompt who is calling and it's so loud!!!
I just switched from S4 to S5. I remembered it did the same thing on my S4 when I first got it but I was able to quickly disable it. But with the S5, I tried and tried and couldn't find a solution. I'm not in driving mode FYI...
Any idea??? Thansks!

Did you install any app that requires access to "Accessibility"?
Some apps like Tasker requires you to enable accessibility and you will get a prompt that says "If you enable accessibility for that app, you won't be able to use talkback, air view.... etc...."
I remember that back in S4, it caused problems and made talkback becomes active from time to time even when it was unchecked due to a bug.
I don't know if you did change accessibility or not but just wanted to mention that.

Blurry Google Maps?

I've noticed that my Google Maps app seems to be running at a very low resolution, so everything looks blurry. I've tried manually setting the resolution to WQHD, but that doesn't seem to fix it. I'm on the lastest version of Google Maps, with Mate 10 software version B131C636. Anyone else have this problem?

Same thing happens for me.
I'm having a lot of issues with this phone (can't disable vibration forever, the lock when locking an app in the multitasking menu disappears when closing the app, undeletable notifications, screen gets so scratched, vibration turns on again after when you enter again in silent mode ...)
What resolution are you using when running maps? Settings > Display > in here you have several items to choose from but I believe "Screen resolution" is the one you need to try to manually adjust to see if it helps at all. If not then maybe a factory reset is in order...sorry!
I'm still having this issue
Hi!
I have this issue too in my Mate 10, I have the resolution setting @ intelligent mode.
I tried deleting the Maps data and doing a factory reset, same issue.
Still no solution?
No such issue here. I am using Mate 10.

Why ? Because you are 3 to have this issues, every mate 10 owner must have it ? Maybe it's firmware related, region (of devices) related, screen (maybe differente quality of hardware used).
Before claiming its all mate 10 issues, try to find out if you're more than 3.

There's only one way to test this.
It's to take a picture from a word, very close that we can see the pixels and compare it
I also have a blurry Google Maps on my Mate 10. Google Maps Go is even worse. Although, the maps inside the Google Trips app is just fabulous! So crispy and detailed! So Google definitely can do better even on a Mate 10. I reported it to Google, but got no answer yet.

Is anybody able to make P30 Pro respond to "OK Google" command?

Hi guys,
for some reason my P30 Pro refuses to answer to "OK Google" command. Anybody has a guide for this?
I selected English US in Google app, Voice settings, but getting "Access with Voice Match - This feature is currently unavailable for this language"

I think that you also need to select a region that supports US English. I live in Italy and had to change my region to United States.

Tried all your suggestions, not working. Here's a screen recording.

I have the voice match enabled and even then, it doesn't unlock the device and just asks for the pin code.

I had this problem. Google Assistant worked just wouldnt respond to "OK Google" and wouldn't let me retrain / delete voice model.
I force stopped and cleared data from Google app restarted and installed google assistant and then restarted again (i did it without restarted many times before giving up and rebooting phone)
when i loaded up google assistant from play store it let me retrain voice and now fully works
I have the exact same problem with my honor 9 and that happened right after the emui 9 update, it works only if I'm already in Google app screen. (was working fine on emui 8).
I was able to get it working for a day or so by turning off Assistant completely and then setting it back up. However when I went back to it today, it's disabled and I can't re-enable.
Not sure why

Question Apps to schedule off and on

Since One UI 5.0, the feature "Schedule Restart" had been removed. Is there a schedule restart app that works in Samsung S23 Ultra phone and does not requires the phone to be rooted? Tried "Refresh - Auto Reboot, No Root" app and seems complicated to setup and couldn't get it to work.

Yes I have enable this but is kind of useless. A proper Schedule Restart app will be good. Don't know why Samsung removed this feature with the new One UI 5.0.

Actually not much on restart, I want the phone to be schedule shutdown at for example 1am and power on at 7am which I been using the schedule off and on for my previous Mate and Xiaomi phones that came with this feature.
Edit: Change my thread title to "Apps to schedule off and on"
why you need to shut it off?
just use Do Not Disturb mode

The question is not that, the good thing would be to be able to turn it on or off at the scheduled time for whatever reason, but as far as I know in the Samsung now you can not
I don't see the sense in having the phone start up: unless there is no security setting - which is not sensible - the phone actually won't start up until the phone is unlocked by the user...
Settings for planned periods in do not disturb -, or Airplane mode, should serve most needs.

The automatic start is fine if you have programmed an alarm and leave the phone off, it will start and without having entered the credentials the alarm will sound.
