[ P780 03-2014 >+ ] Custom Recovery and repartition ? - Lenovo P780

Hi all,
I'm one of the people that have the P780 made after 03 2014 by now we know we have to use the special bootloader with the flashtools and all is working fine etc. We can also replace the recovery with a custom one but for me it will not work as it suppose to work. So installing a custom recovery isn't worth it.
But now i'm wondering is there anybody out there that has a working custom recovery on a P780 later then 03 2014 ?
And did anybody repartitioned their phone space on a model later then 03 2014 ? Mine is complaining about space on the phone memory. I already copied almost every app to the memory card. But after the 4.4.2 update the phone memory is 1,02 gb free and it's just sitting there doing nothing
Maybe we could start a thread specially for the 03-2014 >+ models and if we got custom recovery working ? and there is a rom builder with some spare time he/she could make the 03-2014 >+ roms without the need to replace the bootloader.

Hi,
Sorry for my late answer I have a 4GB version. And I know that we can install custom recoveries but they are kind of useless (for me it is) if we cannot flash roms trough them. I saw you are using the vibe2 rom from needrom also. I think it's one of the best roms we can have for this phone but i would like to try others also. Is there a way we could flash roms on the after 032014 phones that are made for custom recovery ? because we need the special preloader for our roms.
I'm not a rom chef at all but if there is an easy way to convert all the roms for phones made after 032014 I would be gladly helping to change them.
BTW stympy you are the Lenovo p780 goeroe ... they should make you the moderator here .. Thank you for all the effort you put in this phones forum

Hi there! Lets understand one thing: there is no problem flashing custom zip roms from custom recovery, even if you have the phone produced after 03.2014. Zip roms are not afecting the preloader, only the ones who must me flashed from PC. Sooo.. in the conclusion you can flash zip files with no wories.
Oh... and one more think: with custom recovery you can backup your full ROM and restore if something goes wrong, flash new apk directly to your system, flash new modem software, root your system and more... In my opinion this is the best think ever if you want to escape the stock rom provided by your phone producer.
Soo good luck on flashing zip files from custom recovery. :good:

Start with a ROM of your choice, just pick one you'd like to try and test it out. If you don't like it try another one out.
*Repeat untill your phone dies

Hi Vinay, Post ur questions in Q & A forum. Ok the difference between custom and official ROM is u ll get ROOT access, many mod from official. Moreover check the caution lines before flashing any ROM.. Watch some videos on flashing ROMs. Also always a copy of main original official ROM..
and a nandroid backup would be also useful just in case something goes wrong
Hi!
Custom rom made by developers that can be from stock (samsung) basis or aosp/aokp (google) basis according to what the devs wants and need, so you need to know about what features and themes are included in the rom so that it would match your preferences. There's sure are a lotta rom out there to try. Be sure to flash only rom that made for your phone and made a backup just in case..
Happy flashing!

Hi to all and thank you for helping me.
The big trouble is that i led my phone in to strange state where only triangle appears and logo of samgung and gets stuck in that state ;after downloading some wrong ROM, my mobile got to this state , now i want to get back in order to wakeup my mobile and brings it too original state as pervious , also to inform you that the mobile was locked to local operator and i tried to unblock and i did mistake .
I just want to have brief guide to how to start as there are many information in this forum and i dont know which tutorial should i base ON.
Basically i just want to know which ROM should i take and procedures in order to install the correct ROM in correct way. I allready has the ODIN installed in my PC and at the moment i can navegate in my phone by Clockworkmode but i dont know what i should do after that , i do know that i can put the ROM in SD Card and try to force the mobile but first i would like to have exprties opinion on this matter, PLEASE.
Regards
Vinay
Well basically if you want to restore to original state, you have to flash the stock rom for your phone or the backup you made before (which I assume you didn't made it). Try to find the stock firmware/rom for your phone version/country/region on sammobile and flash it using odin (put your phone to download mode first). Hope it helps..
P.s: don't worry about the yellow triangle thing, it'll disappear after you flashed the stock..

Ok ;i understood but if i dont want to go back or lets say if i want to root and unblock without original stock ROM what procedure should i do , please.
I am also having difficulties finding the best ROMS for mobile S2 GALAXY where i should find them , please.
Best Regards
Vinay Navinchandra
Dont mention "best rom" since its against the rules.Youll get a warning and your/this thread locked.
Yeah, it's a matter of preferences if you talked about what best so browsing around and try for yourself..
Some custom rom got pre-rooted, and some need to be rooted first or even not at all. There's lotta method to root sgs2 and it's not hard at all, just google it and you'll get it..

I also wonder why there is no custom roms for these very good phones.
Gigabyte make really nice phones at a very good price.
I have GSmart Aku A1 - no lag, no problems, very easy to handle with it, everything is OK.
Also they have better phones and from GB are trying to get more share of the market.
I hope that soon somebody will do something for us. To be honest its not necessary because
the phone is clear from stupid apps and it has almost eveyrthing you need.
But you know that it is a passion to root your phone and put a custom rom
We only have to wait

Hello tzaneff
I tried the LEwa_by_DusikOff.zip with default android recovery, but the installation aborted after 5s.
I have rooted the phone + mobileuncle tool, and GSmart Aku A1_V1.43.12 firmware installs successfully.
Should I use some custom recovery or is there something else that prevents the android recovery from accepting the LEwa_by_DusikOff.zip?
Any recovery mode image? I cant seem to download the recovery.img from 4pda forum.
Aku A1 Custom ROM
Здравствуйте ув. DusikOff. Мы опять встретились с Вами.
Hello Dusikoff. We meet again with you.
AflaLV, dear friend, here you are a custom CWM recovery for the Aku A1. Probably you red this, but:
http://www.hard-reset.com/gigabyte-gsmart-aku-a1-hard-reset.html
And you can set a CVM recovery without PC /translate from the 4pda/:
1. Download a Mobileuncle MTK Tools.apk;
2. Download a recovery.img and put it the root of the SC card /this is CWM a recovery, rename it if had to/;
3. Run Mobileuncle MTK Tools /without an internet connection/ go to Recovery Update, the choose recovery.img /file is on the root of the SD card/;
4. Reboot and you must have a CWM recovery.
Then using it you'll be able to install a custom ROM. For now there are just 2, but hope to have a new ones.
Regards and good luck!

I tried the cwm recovery image you suggested, which I installed (flashed) with mobileuncle app - great that PC was not needed in flashing process.
Also installed the lewa rom. Factory reset was mandatory after the rom install, because half of the previous apps were crashing all the time. Fortunately I had prepared app/settings/data backup before started with anything, I did restore, and all my previous apps are now working with lewa os. CPU bench also has better score now, and security policy is also better from the first looks.
Worth the time I spent. :good:
While exploring the lewa os, I found update option to major version 14. Is it possible to update, and is it needed at all?
Help me please
please tell me how can i instal stock recovery for My AKu a1 coz i wanna instal stock rom but now i have cwm and i cannot instal stock soft from the developer site help me please

[Q] Custom ROMs for Lenovo P780 8 GB

Hey guys, i browsed across many forums like XDA, lenovo-forums.ru etc. and I just can't seem to confirm if there is any working customs ROMs for P780 8GB version. Either they don't write it's for 8GB or most of them are for 4GB.
Can any fellow users list the ROMs they have used from Needrom , or Russian forums and if they work on 8 GB version. It would be helpful to other users too.
I wanted to use Life ROM and SLX Rom , as they are light and slx is looking like stock Android AOSP, so i would like to know if SLX works on 8GB, so i can flash.
How's your phone working? How many days since you are using it?
How different components are functioning i.e. WiFi, 3G, GPS etc?

Dude I asked you because you've used this phone and of course they work. I asked how do they work.
I asked you because there are not many people using this phone and certainly not many to be found around on the Internet.
As for the topic, you can check on one of the threads on this forum where a guy down in the thread has mentioned "He checked one ROM on all other versions of the phone and found that to be working". In fact you could have avoided this thread if you had read the comment in that thread or maybe replied there itself

Hi Thanks for your help.
Tried that ROM already and failed to succeed. several timeswith different recoveries. The zip loads allright and goes right up to the end loading till : "Enjoy the ROM!"
But then, with the Calvik recovery, the red neken gets stuck and doesnt move anymore.
Must be something corrupt with the boot.img or you got another idea??
Dunno, seems legit. Maybe it's only set up for 16 and not 32 GB? Some of those devices are specific and have different firmwares for different storage options. But maybe sign up for the dev site listed on that page and see if those guys can help you figure it out? There's also the TWRP recovery available and some other custom roms:

Working ROM for NEKEN N6
My experience with rom upgrading teach that: each phone are different and every change can brick it all!
FIRST: do everything a backup (better with SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1316.0.150) if you don't doit when you got a working phone
SECOND: don't mix recovery and pacth, when you try and doesn't work, restore a working rom and restart
if you are in third state download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2430698
it's in chinese but with this guide you can understand, download the rom you want to try and flash with this
When you got a working rom return to point FIRST
ps: i've got a backup of my phone but it's 2,83 Gb! If you have a brick i can do a torrent....

CWM recovery method?

Updated yesterday to KK and it seems to work quite well !
I tried using OTA voodoo rootkeeper but it failed to restore the root after update so I used the CWM recovery method and it worked great.
One annoying thing is that I cannot quickly switch the sim card I want to use while in the SMS app. I used to dropdown the notification bar and there were 3 buttons to choose (sim 1, sim 2, always ask).
Now I have to dropdown notif bar, expand settings, click on the Message icon and change the behaviour for sending SMS... Very annoying !!!

Hi everybody!
Like everyone else I had lost root after updating to KitKat. I also tried to recover it with OTA Rootkeeper, but it wasn´t possible.
So what exactely is meant by the before mentioned "CWM recovery method"? I´d really like root back, but nothing is said/written about what to do AFTER having updated to KitKat.
Every answer is very much appreciated.

It is as simple as reading the topic start / first post!
Just use the Flash / CWM method like aways/before!?
So download my (or your) scatter file and CWM recovery by vache (or Carlivs CTR) and flash it with SP Flash Tool (older version) etc. and install SuperSU from ZIP (SD) in your new CWM recovery.
Great!

Acer e3 4.4.2
I have the single sim version (1gb of ram) in the UK on Three network. I still have not had the kitkat update and many on the Acer forum haven't. If & when I do what is the best way to root it as I'd like to try out an app the supports part of the memory card to be used as RAM. Assuming these actualy work that is.
Edit:- just seen post above about rooting. Are the memory card to ram apps any good?
Thanks.
Kitkat already available in Belgium?
I've seen numerous post of people claiming they have gotten the kitkat update for acer liquid e380 in Belgium. I own the single-sim version and also live in Belgium but still haven't gotten any update notification. If I check for updates it says that I'm up-to-date. What is going? That's the build number I had on three, that's not even the most up to date jellybean build,I flashed the 1.016.00 gen1 build from the development thread and that jb build was so much better than the three UK build,it also had the kitkat ota ready to go on first boot after flash
Hi Gary,
That's a Three branded build. I think officially you should ask Three for the upgrade. Unofficially I am quite sure you should be able to upgrade to the GEN1 release using the instructions in the thread.
Regards,
Nika.
1.016.0 ?! I'm on 1.005.0, is something wrong with my device? It still says up-to-date.

Btw, will I void my warranty when flashing an official rom? I'm not new to flashing, but because I haven't flashed anything on an acer device I'm pretty much lost already, and I don't want to brick my acer either.

BGCs = Belgacom Single SIM device. It's under control by Belgacom, so please contact them if you want an official upgrade. Can't say anything about warranty. I would expect that if a flash causes a system to fail it would not be covered by warranty...what they do when the original BGCs ROM is not on it when you have another issue, I don't know either... sorry...(officially they would always be allowed to deny warranty as soon as you start doing stuff like this I guess)

Yes you will void you're warranty flashing the Roms from these two threads as you need root and a custom recovery, and yes this acer had me stumped for a while but actually this device is the most simple device to flash that I've had, using sp flash tool it's all done effortlessly in just a few clicks in just a few minutes,I've bricked my device so many times
Flash it is then
Ok I want to flash to unbranded latest firmware, or newer Jellybean & the OTA kitkat if you guys will help.
I have:- SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1344.0.212, USB VCOM Driver MT6589 & I've just downloaded 635475739172038202_OTA_Acer_1.0_AV052_A but this from from under Hackwerks sig so this is the duo 4.4.2 firmware. Mine is the 1gb single sim model. Is this the same or will I need different firmware.
A dumpties how to would be great. I am competent in these thing if shown how to do them. Last phone I flashed was Sony K750i !

You have same phone as me,here's how I killed two birds with one stone with regards latest jellybean and kitkat,I created folder on desktop and called it acer tools so sp flashtool would find it easy, then I downloaded the latest jellybean Rom which vache posted on page 28 of the dev thread and copied it to the folder acer tools, then downloaded the supersu zip and placed it in my folder, then downloaded vache's cwm and Carliv touch recovery and placed in folder, fire up sp flash tool and do not connect phone to pc just yet, click on the word scatter file then to the left find you're folder and click on you're downloaded Rom and click scatter file then click open at the bottom,it should all then load up,now click download, now, with you're phone switched off(blue led) connect to pc,watch the loading bar and wait for green circle, all done!,reboot and you will have latest jellybean Rom with the kitkat update ready and waiting
Nearly there !
OK I now have all the downloads you mentioned from the sources you did.
I unzipped the rom file.
So I click on Scatter Loading on the right & load that txt file in the rom folder. All the files load in the bottom window all ticked.
Does the phone need to be rooted first?
Where does Acer E380 - Recovery - Carliv Touch Recovery 2.5 & Acer E380 - Recovery - CWM 6.0.5.0 by vache come in play in all of this?
I need to know how to turn my phone off with the blue LED. (is this USB de-bug mode)
Does it all sound good so far?

I never unzipped the Rom,just copied the download to my folder, now you ask,I'm not sure about root, this method completely flashed a totally bricked phone so I assume root does not matter because when you do this the New Rom is unrooted with stock recovery hence the custom recovery downloads needed for when Rom is flashed, the blue led appears after you have just plain and simply powered you're phone off and plugged it into pc after clicking on download, once Rom is successfully flashed go back into sp flash tool(download hackwerks scatter file) and load hackwerks scatterfile like before then tick the recovery box, then click on the word recovery and load one of the custom recoveries you downloaded then click download, plug in you're switched off phone, blue led will show and sp tool will do its thing, you will then have Rom with custom recovery, place supersu zip on sd card and flash it from recovery then you are also rooted but if you decide to update to kitkat you must flash back stock recovery
flash
I couldn't get the flash programming to recognise the zip file, so had to unzip.
I'm not too bothered about root after its all done, as my Lloyd's banking app won't work.
So I won't really need the other files will I?
