Lets Talk About SDCARDS - G3 Accessories

So what micro sdcards are people using as i need a new one want 32GB at least. Does it support 64? Preferably an amazon link!

link below, you can go 64gb or 128gb if you like. on 4.4.2 you might have to do the KK SDcard fix, which is simply editing a file in permissions and allowing RW access to the sd card. Might be the same for Lollipop, but I'm not there yet on my phone.
One thing I did find is that I get lag if I stick loads of music on there and use the stock app, so I use rocket player as it handles that better.

I haven't tested it, but I read that it worked fine. It's slightly outside my price point at the moment, once they drop a little buy one.

Thanks Man!

I'm using this one without any problems

I think I read somewhere that the G3 actually supported up to 3TB SD cards ! (And yes, I know there's no card that big, but it just means it works ! )

Just get any class 10 sd card.

Just as a PSA, Best Buy is having a pretty good sale on Samsung micro sd cards. I got a 64gb "evo" for $25. Steady write rate, according to us file explorer, on 40mbps.
I can finally explore some 4k recording.

Sdcards for LG G3
In most regions the LG G3 comes with a hearty 32GB of internal storage, leaving nearly 25GB for you to use as you wish. As is often the case, one size never fits everyone — and if you need more than 32GB in your mobile device, you'll have to resort to using an external SD card to expand it. The LG G3's MicroSD card slot supports up to 128GB cards, giving you more room than you'd likely ever be able to fill.

I can recommend mymemory.co.uk. they aren't scroungers like Amazon and their prices are much better!

Since I'm newly out of iPhone world, and into LG G3, Android and sdcards ... and I already had a problem with bad 32gb (fake chinese) SunDisk sdcard, which could write to it , but every file wouldd in a day or two get corrupted .. When I inserted the old (and slow) 16gb card , it works as it should...
But, could You refer me or explain, what can / can't I put on the card in my LG D858hk, with 4.4.2. Android. What can I do on stock LG Android, and what with rooting ?
Also, recommend some good quality 32gb at least , preferably 64gb ... since I am a massive hoarder of music etc.

128gb card
I've been using a Sandisk 128GB card for a couple of months now. Currently about half full with music. Reads / writes fine with no discernible real world difference compared to the 16GB card I had previously.
Can't say how it might work with stock, I am Rooted and booted using Cyanogenmod 12 by Manupse. No complaints.

From what I understand, the Samsung Pro cards are great. The one you posted is the last generation one. The current one is rated at up to 90MBps read and up to 50MBps write, and isn't that much more at $59.99.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MG64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU88U
This being said, people tend to prefer the Samsung EVO cards for phone use. They're substantially less expensive ($35.79 shipped):
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MP64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU7AO
The reason people tend to prefer the less expensive EVO cards is their faster 4k random read/write speeds, which is arguably the most important aspect for phone use.
Here's the 64GB Samsung EVO micro SD:
Here's the 64GB Samsung Pro micro SD:
If you're using it in a camera, 4k camcorder, or transferring big files, I can see preferring the Pro. Then again, you can get the very similar PNY Turbo 64GB card (up to 90MBps read) for $27.99 shipped right now, which is less than 1/2 the price.

32GB microSD card???

Hey guys
i got my TD2 today! can i use 32GB microSD card? dose it support it?
if so, where can i buy it?
thx
I can confirm that the 16GB card works fine, not sure about 32GB.
What would you put on the 32GB card to fill it up, lot's of movies? I have lots of apps, TomTom maps of the UK & USA, some movies & mp3's and still have plenty of room left over. Maybe in time I will look back and wish I purchased a 32GB but at the moment It's more than enough.

They say TD2 only support up to 16GB, because at the time of its launch there were only 16GB avaliable. That's all.
It will support 32GB just as it supports 16, 8 or 4GB SDHC cards.

I would like a 32gb card because :
a) Since I can mount my phone as USB mass storage, it could replace my external USB drive (except it uses the FAT32 file system not NTFS)
b) I'm backpacking around Europe soon, so loading it up with movies, music & tv shows for all the long flights & train rides would be great.

I heard that the problem is that they very hot and slow, so still not availaible for sale. Also i heard that they can be used on Kaiser
Even when the 32GB cards come out, they will be relatively very expensive. It would be much cheaper to buy 2 16GB cards and swap-out when wanted. After all, you can swap cards easily enough if you only use them for media and avoid putting programs and other essential data on them. There's surely enough storage on board the D2 for all the progs you could want?
Then just stick, say, music on one card and video on the other. Swapping takes 30 seconds, maybe? The other benefit is if you get a card failure it's a lot less traumatic to your wallet.
@ root beer: It's very easy to fill up 32GB, a lot of people's music collection @ 320k takes up this space. Before you even consider videos etc

Agreed, i just bought a 16GB card for my TD2, but tried it in my old Touch Dual and it works fine, I was always advised that could only take 8GB.
What is the thing that like makes a limit for how much a device can take? I mean, there must be something.
Its the limitations of SD. Any device that is SD 2.0 Complient will work with upto 32GB wheras SD1.x devices will work with cards <2GB

Any news on the 32gb Micro SD card ?
hope it wil be a class 8 or 10
If the 32GB MicroSDHC card comes out anytime soon (Which I doubt), the first ones will be class 2 or 4 at best, and cost at least half-again as much as two 16GB cards. A single 16Gb card is $50 @ microcenter.com, so I predict once the 32GB's come out, they'll be at least $150 each.

My 16GB class 6 Adata card has been problematic when transferring larger files via the USB phone connection mode. If I remove the card and place it in a card reader it works perfectly.
YMMV, cause it might be my card or my system that causes such bugs. Just wanted to bring it to your attention.

yeah, I looked at it, too. SanDisk class 6 micro SDXC. Let me know if you try it how it works for you. I'm using a 16Gb class 10, and it works great. I've seen sketchy things about 32 Gb micros having occasional failed reads, so I'm hesitant to go up, but I would like to be able to move all my music onto a single card, so let me know. Thanks.
Mine gets here tomorrow, I'll post back if its good or not
I've really considered upgrading if it does work well enough. I want to get my entire music collection on my phone without having to worry about storage. And this sounds perfect.

Personally 16GB is perfect for me. All my V0 MP3s can fit on that. I don't collect album and only my favorite songs.
personally I listen to flac files and they are frankly huge compared 10 mp3. I have 2 32 gig cards, maybe I should consider an upgrade.
CAUTION
While I do not really intend to go searching for the thread, an early adopter of the 64GB card initially thought it worked, and then it bottoms up pretty quick. Find the thread; but if he is correct DO NOT BUY THIS CARD FOR THE REZOUND.

Not exactly sure if this is the same one that Bestbuy has but I bought the SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 6 Memory Card for my Rezound and haven't had any issues (about a month old now). I formatted it on the computer then the phone. It is very expensive but definitely worth it in the end. Before the 64 I used my 32 GB microSD that came with the Thunderbolt without issue. Up to now I haven't had any adverse effects.

64GB Micro SD card do they work on photon ?

hi, I'm looking to buy a 64GB MicroSDXC card
do they compatible with photon ?
can anybody who have them give some inputs ?
thank you.
No, the Photon only supports microSDHC, and like you said, the 64gb (also, anything over 32gb) is classified as microSDXC.
32gb + 16gb internal should be more than enough anyways, provided you use it wisely.
If you absolutely NEED that amount of space, some users were able to use the Photon as a USB host and attach an external USB flash stick using a special USB-F-MicroUSB-M

I've seen a couple reports that they work fine on the Photon, but more that they don't. And the Droid4 and Bionic are reported to work.

The current 64GB cards are generally backwards compatible with SDHC in a lot of devices.

I have a Sandisk 64 card - haven't tried it in my Photon, but it works fine in my Xoom and Cowon J3 MP3 player (linux).
So, I don't know for sure. (My Photon battery cover plastic clips won't take too many more removals or I'd try it)

the 64GB is the exact one I got her.
Cool - good to know, thanks for the post.
I figured it would work fine in the Photon since it seems to work in about everything else with a SDHC 3.0 compatible slot.
And I got my spare battery cover via eBay today, so may try it soon.

Let me better explain my "No big difference, so I went back" comment. I had a 16Gb SanDisk Class 4, I was happy. I got 32Gb SanDisk Class 6 for $100.00 and I was happy. I got Komputer 32Gb Class 10 for @ the same. When I compared them read/write, depending on what I was reading or writing, the SanDisk was either faster OR not that far behind, so I went back to SanDisk for the realiabilaty. I now have 64Gb SanDisk Class 6 and I'm happy (Kinda of, there is nothing on it? I either use Google or ZumoCast to acces my desktop at home?)
My suggestion, look for stability, look at the reviews where people smarter than I have done extensive testing. Not all chips are alike. Also, look at your needs. If you take a ton of pictures or video, I assume you would need high write speed. If your a gamer, I assume you would need high read speeds? Just me!
Thanks for the further explanation! I'll probably just pick up the class 6. It's getting rave reviews on Amazon.

The best Sd card, under say £50 ? pleease. :)

hi guys, so far ive only done a quick e-bay search and came across the (San disk 64GB Mobile Ultra Class 10 UHS-I Micro SD SDXC Memory Card)
Its going for £45. i will go up to £50 if it can beat that. as in better for my HTC EVO 3D, it will be kept standard most likely and used for music, internet and movies. with camera used and camcorder often too.
i stupidly bought/bid/won a no brand 32 GB for £10. it worked fine till about 6 hours later and it doesn't recognise it at all, and its not been switched off or settings messed with. it works with no adaptors in the PC/laptops either.
so its not the phone, must be the card. any ideas ?
cheers
Please excuse the mistakes, i blame this cloudy cider i be drinkin' yarr.
The card your looking at seems nice. At least it's name brand this time.
The 3d officially supports up to 32GB, but people report running the 64GB ones with no issues. I'd get it.
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2
Not sure which SanDisk card you are looking at but this one on amazon.uk seems to be compatible with the Evo 3D based on the second review on the US Amazon site.
I don't know how that compares to your eBay option, but I've heard some horror stories about people getting fake high capacity cards from eBay sellers that actually have much lower capacity, and I generally get what I'm expecting from Amazon.
I've read other places that currently Android doesn't really take advantage of anything higher than a class 6 card, but even if that's true you will be prepared for the future.

hi guys, so far ive only done a quick e-bay search and came across the (San disk 64GB Mobile Ultra Class 10 UHS-I Micro SD SDXC Memory Card)
Its going for £45. i will go up to £50 if it can beat that. as in better for my HTC EVO 3D, it will be kept standard most likely and used for music, internet and movies. with camera used and camcorder often too.
i stupidly bought/bid/won a no brand 32 gb for £10. it worked fine till about 6 hours later and it doesnt recognise it at all, and its not been sitched off o settings messed with. it works with no adaptors in the PC/laptops either.
so its not the phone, must be the card. any ideas ??
cheers

im sure the one you linked is the exact same as on e-bay.
cheers for the help.
using a class 2. 2GB sand disk in at the moment and its fine, not much storage space but it allows me to take 3d pics etc.. and have a few songs on while my 64GB arrives.

ok i really want to order before i leave for work,
should i just get this 64GB sand disk class 10 at £45 delivered ?
cheers.
Hi yes sandisk or kingston make very good quality sd cards for an affordable price you should also go for class 6 for faster read and write speeds
They should most definitely under 50 euros if you buy online
Sent from me in my cardboard box
Well i made the plunge and got myself one.
yeah the 64GB does work, i just need to format it as it comes as factory formatted exFAT and i need to reform to NTFS.
sorted
Infact the one i have ordered is specific for android so i presume it has an app on the card which means i dont need to format it and change it.
here it is in its ;

I work in a retail store and one thing i noticed is that SD Card prices have gone down. You can Pick up a 32GB class 10 sandisk for £30. Its what i'm using and it's much faster compared to the class 4 8GB i originally got with the phone.

128GB microSDXC card availability?

Last year SanDisk said (source: can't find it again) to expect 128GB microSDXC cards by the end of Q3 2013 (september), but, we're... still... waiting. I wonder what the holdup is?
As soon as they're spotted in the wild, I'll be buying one on day1 for the expected ~$100 asking price, which'll bring my total Note3 capacity up to 192GB(!). Also never had a corrupted card issue from SanDisk, unlike some others, so no qualms there.
And before anyone asks: Yes, 128GB is compatible with the Note3, even though the specs says only 64GB is supported. They always do that. the microSDXC spec actually supports up to 2TB, and there's no reason why the phone shouldn't be able address up to 2TB in hardware or software.
Anyway... keep an eye out folks. It'll look something like...... THIS:

EDIT (5 months later): 128GB is here! Only $120 at Amazon (sold out until April 9th); or $200 MSRP at BestBuy now. Might pop up on EBay (non-scam that is) before Amazon gets it back in stock.
Yup, i was one of those Crazy Early Adopters, see link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343164
those 64GB were going for $200 from the official SanDisk website.
Then 6 month later Best Buy had them for like $80, i almost went kaput
so this time around I'll just wait until the prices drop before ordering the 128 GB version

Ouch So you got yours in November of 2011 and paid the high early adopter tax.
I didn't have a SDXC capable phone until I picked up my S3 in June 2012, and only paid... $64.49 for my 64GB sandisk off of Ebay via China. Was a good deal at the time, as the price averaged higher for a few months following as demand for SDXC picked up (thanks to S3 sales).
I'm hoping the 128GB sdxc won't be so obscenely overpriced at launch.
I paid over $100 for a class 10 32GB. A year or so later they are less than half that. lol. O well, I wanted fast speeds and I got it. I just paid a hell of a lot of money at the time to get it (compared to what they cost now).

The 128gb will be around $220USD at launch, possibly more. That was the price of 64gb cards at launch.

Yeah... I don't think I want to be paying that much. I'll wait for the $1/GB threshold.

$1 a gb is way high anymore. 64 gb can be had for under $50. If a 128 gb card was $128 I would buy one

Definately interested
I am definitely interested. Building up a big library of stuff on my current 64GB and wondering how that is going to continue working for me... Especially since we are all stuck with 32GB of memory instead of the option for more... What about the other card providers?
Isn't $200 for 128GB a huge ripoff?
Considering you have high Performance SSDS with longer durability AND built-in controllers with cache for nearly 50 cents per gig.
And how much larger are those SSDs than a microSD card?

Weird. My 64GB Sandisk has been working just fine for the last year and half, in a S3 and Note3. It's formatted Fat32 instead of exFAT, though, due to early compatibility issues with ROMs and recoveries. Will be reformatting as either exFAT or ext4 depending on when CM10 for the Note3 is ready.

have you even seen the inside of an SSD? Hint: Mostly empty space. The actual Memory chip is about the same size.
They just omit the extra high performance components (Like cache, controllers) on Micro SD packages.
Instead of putting in ONE big capacity chip = SLOW , they put a couple smaller chips So they can work FASTER in parallel
Same flash Memory technology , less Side components = more $?

I have the exact SanDisk card you have in your picture (64GB) and started using it in my S3, now have it in my Note 3. It has always worked perfectly. These caveats may be what helped achieve this success:
1. Never reformatted the card.
2. Never rooted either phone
3. Never took the card out unless the phone had finished turning off and was unplugged.
4. Never took the card out of the reader on my PC unless I first went into windows explorer and first selected "eject" for that drive letter, and waited until the message popped up on the desktop saying it was OK to disconnect that drive.

You serious? Those chips are usually 8/16/32gigs and they're bigger and thicker though not a lot. Yes, you're right they work in parallel, but they need ram, controllers and a lot more energy to work how they do and how fast. Shrinking 128gb to micro SD size is probably secondary to getting it to work reliably.

That's what I Mean, SD Cards have less Components but higher cost.
BTW, sdcards have internal controllers just lower performance Ones.
Hard to believe the cost of minutarizaton (which usually brings costs DOWN) is higher than the cost of enhanced performance .
Should at least balance out.
Any update on the 128GB micro-sdxc?
Can't find anything yet. Did SanDisk get sent back to the drawing board?

I have found this on Amazon... seems to cheap to be true but I was thinking of giving it a go. I can't post links as I'm a new user but just search amazon uk for samsung 128gb micro sd.
What are your thoughts?
Hopefully not this one.
