[MOD} SM-915T Surround Sound - Note Edge Android Development

First of all let me say that i am very happy to be here and being the owner of a Note 2, Note 3, Note 4, and many other devices, i will not hesitate to say that the Edge is the best experience i have ever had on a cellphone to date. With that said the experience is about to get much better folks. While the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge have had a substantial upgrade to the camera, one thing that seems to always get lost in the mix on all Samsung flagship devices is the speakers and sound, which are very important to me at least. In my opinion they came the closest to getting it right with the Note 3 by placing the speaker on the bottom of the phone instead of the back, but for some reason returned to the rear facing speaker on the N4 and Edge. If you place your Edge on a table or a couch while listening to music, the sound becomes almost completely muffled. If you feel that you could use a bit more in the sound department from your Edge you will love this mod. I use my phone for basically everything it can be used for, truly replaced my lap top with my phone since my Note 2, and one of the first things i have always done is my sound mods to increase speaker volumes and install Viper for some improved audio goodness. This time around i decided to do a bit more and take it to the next level.
This mod will activate you front earpiece speaker in conjunction with the rear main speaker any time Speaker mode is used for example playing music, watching movies, shows, you tube and so on, creating an almost surround sound type of effect. There will be three zips to flash in this post and they are as follows:
1) Stock volume values approximately 84 with activated surround sound type effect.
2) Very Loud volume values approximately 90 with activated surround sound type effect.
3) Revert back to stock sound volume values and stock speaker functions and effect.
Please keep in mind that this mod is for the T Mobile Note Edge variant. This modifies the mixer_path.xml file in you system/etc folder. This .xml file varies device to device and even carrier to carrier. I have not tested this on International or any other carrier Note Edge, and i used the T Mobile .xml file as my base. Therefore i don't know if it will work on any other carrier although i will say that there is a better chance of it working on another U.S. carrier than there is on International. If you decide to try it please have your rom backed up in case of a boot loop, and before you flash the zip or extract and push the .xml file to your system, rename your original mixer_paths.xml to mixer_paths.xml.bak so that you have your original easily accessible. There is a slight chance that if you pm me your mixer file i can mod it for your variant, and maybe add it to the thread assuming it doesn't work for you and i have some spare time.
PREREQUISITES
A Rooted Galaxy Note Edge
Custom Recovery Installed. I tested on TWRP 2.8.1.1
A set of human or alien ears (animal may also work but have not been tested by me)
DISCLAIMER
I am not responsible in any way, shape, or form, directly or indirectly for anything good or bad that happens to your device do to your modifications using my surround sound zips. Please do not inject, ingest or insert these zips anywhere on or in your body, they are meant to be flashed in a custom recovery on your Note Edge Beast.
Developers and users, you have permission to use these mods in your Roms, start threads, or as you wish, I ask for credit only and if your starting a thread based on these mods, please link this thread somewhere in case issues arise that i may be able to assist with.[/SIZE]
INSTALLATION
STEP 1: Download the sound mod zip of your interest and also Download the Revert to stock zip. (Optional) If they end up on your internal storage, navigate to the zips using a root explorer such as Root Explorer or ES Explorer, etc. and copy the zips over to your ext. sd for safe keeping.
STEP 2: Boot to recovery by using modded shut down menu, Power Toggles type Widget, or simply turn your phone off. Once completely off hold Home, Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously which will then boot your recovery.
STEP 3: Navigate to the Sound Mod Zip of your choice and flash it. I don't believe it is necessary to wipe caches with this type of mod, but i would suggest it. Any time i am in recovery i take the opportunity to wipe caches and fix permissions, almost as a maintenance type of habit.
If you used CF root to root your phone you may be having some issues mounting the cache partition. There are 2 ways to fix this, both worked for me, the first of which may or may not work for you and is very simple to try and the second more involved.
1) Wipe Dalvik Cache ONLY. Now wipe Cache ONLY. Now wipe both Dalvik Cache and Cache. If this worked for you, you will now be able to wipe caches without mounting errors.
2) Begin from scratch and re-root your phone except this time DO NOT use Chainfire's CF Root. Odin TWRP recovery, make sure you have a zip of SuperSU 2.16 i believe it is on your sd. Once TWRP is odined, boot to recovery and inject (flash) SuperSU. When booted you will most likely be prompted to update SuperSU as i believe there was an update today, assuming you are injecting 2.16. These steps are only for those having troubles flashing do to CF Root braking TWRP. If this has been fixed, i apologize and please ignore, as i have not checked today.
Post your experience with this mod here, any issues, requests and so on, and i will try to get back to you as soon as time allows. Happy flashing and i hope you all like it. It took me 5 hrs to figure out the correct code for the device and play scenarios in mixer_paths to get this working correctly, and a bunch of testing to get it bug free but well worth it. Hope you guys share my enthusiasm with this mod.
Known Bugs: Sound plays from earpiece speaker while headphones are connected. FIXED
Please let me know if you find something i missed. Thank You.

A guy made a sidebar that has back, recents, home, lock, menu just like a navbar but on the side at your thumbs reach..it in playstore. Not crazy about the icons he used need to be plain L icons but its deff an awesome idea.

Try it. Make sure your rom is backed up. Then copy your original mixerpath.xml to your ext sd and flash away. If you bootloop go to recovery and restore your back up. If it boots but breaks sound, restore the original mixer you put on sd and reboot. Simple. If you meed help let me know. Of it doesnt work post your mixer_paths.xml file here, ill mod it and post it in the op under Sprint☺

Eye catching for sure and complex, yet very user friendly the new screen is. I trully never thought i would use the side screen as much as i do. I think Sammy hit it out of the park with this one, jist needs to catch on a bit. I cant see myself going back to a run of the mill note after betting ised to the edge screen. I just hope that it meets expectations and they keep it going next year, otherwise 64 bit, 810 processor or not i see myself sticking with this one for a long time to come??

Working on the sprint variant. I extracted the file using root explorer and replace the file, fixed permission and restarted. Awesome sound!!
Just tested against a stock edge and it drowns it... lol

looks cool man, here's sound clip I found you might like to go with it, it's HAL saying "I'm completely operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly."

much, much better. that was the best one I was able find... I started looking about 10 mins after you posted the bootani, I was trying to find a sound effect instead but everything sounded like crap and the vocal clip seemed like a cooler idea.
yeah I was just a little bored. I had just parked my big truck for the weekend, still had/have 3 cans of blue Monster whipping through my body and listening to Russ Martin Show on my backup phone (sucks living about 20-30 miles out of range of the station)
here it is in action
That's a nice... did you have to do any tweaking to get the audio timing to match or was it g2g without modding it? I may have to have it do a single repeat after a short pause.

Thanks for this. Very clever and it was my first custom boot animation installation.
The only change I made is dropping the level of the audio file about -6db from orig file you posted. I think the boot audio plays back at max volume of phone so there is certainly room for adjusting. I may drop it even lower if I can.
Thanks for the editing of everything.
BTW: I'm on CM6 latest RC build.

Hey TNP.... I just saw this... I was like Chris farley in tommy boy when I played your video of the working bootani... After it was over, I froze for a moment, then said outloud "that was.... AWESOME!!"
It is very cool, perfectly retro, and... well.. I'm at a loss... its just kubricktastic!!
Thanks to all who helped the OP too. Can't wait to install it, and annoy my friends.
How about an old star trek bootani? The graphic wouldn't be too hard... Some compilation of lights that they had...Then, you just need the audio for the computer: a teletype machine sound followed by "WORKING..." un that monotone female voice.
It wouldn't be as cool as the HAL 9000, but another great one to annoy friends with!

cool...if you have any ideas, ie., youtube links to something youre thinking of, let me know, give me a head start
I will think of something In fact, I use cinema 4d a lot, and I could make a static panel with the blinking lights (I would have to research what that would be ), and then the animation could render in a series of images. isn't that how the animation on the android is stored? I could do the images for the animation, and then you could put it together (i will also try and find the sound...i also use adobe audition, so I could tweak it).
I will think about it and send you a frame for comments (dont know if you were a big start trek fan...but its been awhile for me...somebody here has to be...so a qualified opinion could be made). what format are the bootani images in?
Now that I think about it, you must have had the 2001 dvd cued up for quite awhile as your animation is so spot-on! I am going to wreck my phone because I keep finding reasons to reboot to watch the startup. (I love HAL though...used to use a whole system of alerts in windows with HAL .wavs.)

Cool.. I am working on some ideas. I have two questions: a. What is the frame rate? And B. How do you begin to gauge how long the animation must be?. I know it loops, but if I do a 4 second animation, and the minimum boot animation cannot be less than 5 seconds, then I would want to use that extra second before it starts to loop.
Also, I am fascinated with your animation, and details (the blinking text, etc.(. Did you use after effects? That was the only way I was able to replicate that fast blinking effect (somewhat).

Samsung III Volume

Hello All,
I wanted to buy an SIII but I went to the store and listened to the musice through my apple in the ear headphones. The volume is not quite loud enough for me. I checked the settings and noticed that the were all maxed. My Iphone4 is louder but I want the SIII any network version here in the UK.
I also looked at the HTC One Audio Beats which was perfect, but I really want the SIII.
The audio limiter rules in Europe go against me because of my disabiltiy and I just wish there was a way to make it louder to cover my hearing loss. I wear hearing aids but take them to and use headphones to listen to music.
Do I write off the SIII or is there someway around it?
Grateful to anyone who might be able to help.?

Since you're posting on XDA, I'm assuming you'll be rooting your phone. If so, then yes there is a mod that will greatly increase the phone's volumes for earpiece, speaker, headset, headphones and dock. Mod is located here. It is a popular mod for those of us who prefer a much louder phone, and this fix is even baked into some custom ROMs.

I don't know what you mean by "will this root work here in the UK". Are you planning on buying just the regular International version of the Galaxy S3? Answer to question 2 is yes.

There's a mod called GVM 1.0.2 for S3 Int, if you're rooted. If you root and want warranty work, you need to reset counter to 0 with triangle away and flash stock Rom using mobile odin, then del your root apps like mobile odin etc

I have to say a huge thankyou for everyone that posted. A great help! Just before I hit that purchase button I have posted a request for more info on the S3 general forums about dumping my iphone. I do not want to include it here as I do not want to hijack my own thead.
But, guys thanks, you are all really helping me to make that right decision. It is appreciated.

Just ordered the S3 blue, to be delivered tomorrow.... I am going to need some hand hold here to blow that volume hack so whatever you please do not shout at me. I read up on the mod zip file but it left me slightly confused.... Are there any step by step instructions on how to apply the rom?
All the best

Well you first have to achieve root and flash clockworkmod ecovery.
From recovery you will be able ro install roms and tweaks like the "extremely loud volume hack" you need.
You can start from here for rooting ang flashing CWM

Well you first have to achieve root and flash clockworkmod ecovery.
From recovery you will be able ro install roms and tweaks like the "extremely loud volume hack" you need.
You can start from here for rooting ang flashing CWM

AFAIK loud volume hack is for the speaker right?

Hello All,
I wanted to buy an SIII but I went to the store and listened to the musice through my apple in the ear headphones.

Change the kernel to either Siyah or franco.Kernel
They have the voodoo sound in it which can like boost the headphone/earphone volume by a lot.
Another way is to use a headphone amp but seriously using the above method is super loud already.

Let me know if you want to stay stock but rooted .. GVM works well but .. in past Galaxies nothing compares to voodoo .. waiting for JB to install Siyah or Franco.

Mod has some limits but I wouldn't use max, might ruin speake. Actually I just boosted vol for headphones, speaker is fine for me but I don't see any harm boosting another 20-30% .. think limit is like 50 + 13% .. search for thread MOD GVM in S3 General Q

Welcome to the S3
Hello all again....
Well I got my S3 today and wow what a great phone!... The ear volume is that loud that I can actually hear with my hearing aids in, I am totally made up with it. :good:
The only thing is the ringer sound. Before I consider root it, does anyone know where I can get a Old Style Telephone ring ring tone from? Preferably volume maxed?
I cannot hear the supplied tone because of their frequency and the old style ring ring always seems to work best.
I am happy to pay for the ringtone.
Very happy with you guys, thanks for helping me out. Guess I just have to leave all my bought itune songs in the bin
All the best

[REF][MOD] Volume Boost

jovy23 over on the T-mobile side of the S4 forums came up with this volume hack.. well maybe hack is a bad word. Its a mod
Anyways, I threw it on mine (manually adb pushed /system/etc/snd_soc_msm/) and its a noticeable difference. (yes it also works btw). I haven't been brave enough to go higher than the moderate, but I figured I'd give it to anyone who wants to go give it a shot.

I don't have bluetooth headphones to test it with sorry. It mentioned in the file that it was updating various speakers and mics alike (not just one) so I could assume that it also boosted the bluetooth volume. Don't hold me to it though.

Yeah that's what exactly what I said. I actually had to turn my volume down a little at night. Normal notifications were like having the phone next to your ear at full volume. haha
So.....this might be a stupid question....but....I unzipped it....how do I put it on the phone and where? Thanks!

Hey, not a stupid question. The only stupid question is the one not asked ( regardless of some of the members here... eh hem)
You'll need ADB if you plan on doing it from your computer or you'll need root browser depending on how you want to do it.
Root is required, as you have to modify system folders.
If you don't know what you're doing, I'd recommend getting root browser.
1) Place the two files (snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3, and snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3_auxpcm) on your SD card.
2) Navigate to System/etc/snd_soc_msm and delete the files (snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3...and it's brother) there.
3) Copy and paste the files from your SD card to replace them.
4) Reboot your phone.

Does this work for AOSP as well?
Thanks for the post. Once i finally get around to rooting my S4 Ill have to give this a try. Iv never been great doing mods and stuff. SO hopefully this is pretty easy. Just about the only thing Iv disliked about my S4 is the volume output. Can hardly hear my notifications if im in a place thats not pretty quite.

I haven't seen an AOSP rom for the S4 yet, but I would assume no. The file does not exist at the same location on stock 4.2 ( checked on my GNex prior to typing this). I would venture to say that this is a TW exclusive mod.

CM11 issues on SHV-E300

I am developing CM11 for the Korean models of the S4. Right now I am currently running the build I just compiled. Here is a list of what is not working:
USB Storage : no /emulated/0/sdcard error when trying to mount or download anything not from play store.
Video Camera
Camera takes blank pictures : believe this is because of the storage issue
No sound : we use the yamaha chipset
Can't make or receive calls
I am trying to figure out how to fix the USB storage bug on my end but I think I am at a loss. As for the other issues, I think that just might be the kernel side of things, but not for sure. Can someone help me out with a little advice for some of these issues? Thanks.
Edit: I forgot to add that with not being able to make or receive calls, I do have data (2g, 3g, and LTE). So I really don't know what is going on.
Okay, so now I have everything working except for the making/receiving phone calls and the sound. Is there anyone that might could help me with this?? I really don't know what I am doing when it comes to the kernel and getting things like that working. I know that on the native touch wiz system that my CBD file is located under the root dir under sbin, but on the CM version I have to put it in the system/bin folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Seems like I am asking the wrong question
Okay, since it seems like the wrong question is being answered here. Here is the correct way to ask this. While working with the kernel, how do I know what modules I need for audio, signal and everything else to work with Cyanogenmod??
Sorry, just saw this - is that a Exynos or QC variant?

If you're still having issues, I would check your device tree against this:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_samsung_i9500
and vendor blobs against this:
https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_samsung/tree/cm-11.0/i9500
From what I've been reading the SHV-E300 is a i9500 variant so they should be nearly identical.
You should be able to use that device tree and the kernel referred as a comparison.
The list of proprietary files in device tree should also help make sure you grabbed everything off of the stock ROM that you need.
Good luck! Hope this helps you straighten out the remaining issues!

Thank you for the advice, but I have already been using parts of the I9500 to get to where I now. I just completed another build last night after playing around with the ramdisk but it wouldn't boot. LOL ... I still don't have sound or calling. I know that with the SGS2, they don't have an audio folder in their device tree for the Yamaha audio. I don't know if I need one or not since I cannot find any lib file or driver that corresponds to audio. My question though is that I did find a file that has the same layout as the es325_fw.bin file that the I9500 uses. I can't remember the name of it right now, but it is filename_fw.bin. Do you think that could be my audio? As far as calling goes, I know that on the stock firmware, the pda and the baseband both have to be the same in order to make or receive calls, so how am I supposed to do that one for CM??
@garwynn .. I just built another aplha build, and I just realized I can't get the usb mass storage to show up when the phone is connected to the computer. Any advice for that??

Any of those .bin files that you think are missing in the blobs.... I'm of the opinion that you can throw them in and test adding/removing one at a time to see if it changes. The logcat may also help give clues as to what is going on.
USB storage = check your build.prop and see what options you have set for USB. you could also edit your usb script to force usb mass storage.
I need to check on the firmware question. I though this wasn't the case, you just need a valid fingerprint and ROM doesn't have to match baseband. Is it possible that some of the RIL blobs may be missing?
I just compiled another build. I made sure that the build fingerprint was exactly like it should be. When I installed CM11, I went to about phone and it showed that my fingerprint was KVT49L and not the KOH49T that I had set it to. It kept telling me to insert sim again, which I think I may have fixed. As far as the sound goes, I went through all the bin files and looked them up on google. They all pertained to video and not audio. Inside my stock system, there is a ysounds.xml with a reference to etc/ymc/param. Here is a pastbin of the ysounds.xml file if you wouldn't mind looking at it and letting me know what you think.
YSOUNDS.XML
I have never developed for a high end device before, so this is none the less getting really interesting and fun. LOL.
When looking through the file, it looks almost exactly like the mixers_path of I9500.
New build with audio changes in my device/audio folder caused the system not to Boot. It got to the cm loading screen and there it stayed. Any ideas??

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
Nope. Adb sets on waiting for device for about 5 minutes and then says no devices available.
@garwynn , I just got a new build. I have the correct fingerprint and it is still ending the call as soon as I dial the number. I tried using the yumc files that I had found that were on the phone, but still no sound. I am going to try to add the other files like the ysound and the files it references to the build as well to get sound, but I don't know. It is worth a shot I reckon. LOL. Also, I looked in the build.prop file and there is nothing in there about usb or storage. So I don't know what is going on with that one. I am going to check more on it and see what is going on. Do you have any more advice that you might can give? I don't know if I have said this before, but this is the first time that I have developed for a high end device so this is proving to be a challenge. LOL. Thank you again.

Isn't the Yamaha DAC the same as in the lte-a models? (E330K/S) -They have roms for that model, so maybe you could try pulling them from there
also, there's a patch for MIUI that I found here: http://opnay.tistory.com/23 that has working audio I think, but you can't end calls.

Sadly its not. The e330 models use the qualcomm and wolfson chips. It sucks but I think I know where the hickup is. Just have to learn more about the kernel to fix it. When I go to build, it tells me that there are uninitialized modules for the kernel and to recompile the kernel with the modules enabled. So when I have time I will delve into that.
As far as that pitch goes, I looked into it and it was 4.3 so that would lead to a dead end. Also it was specific to MIUI. I am trying to ask for help from seasoned developers but never get an answer back from most of them. Only a couple have given me advice. Lol. So if you know if anyone that would like to help, just have them pm me . thanks.

The guys at Dokdo Project have working sound! but no phone calls as of yet. They seem pretty slow to update, I'm checking out their blogs, but still a no go as of yet.
It's all in korean, but if you want to give them a shot:
http://dokdo-project.com/
---------- Post added at 02:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:33 PM ----------
just another quick tip: Apparently in Korea they have usim (simcard) locks that prevent other models from calling,
You have to manually change the build.prop and change the ro.product.model= to whatever your model is, in my case:
ro.product.model=SHV-E300K
also, I think this might apply to other places in the build.prop as well, but haven't been able to go that far.

Android Area 51 Down?

Hi everyone I've been trying to check out some Samsung Galaxy Centura ROMs and I know there are some cool ones on Android Area 51 but this whole week it the site seems to have been down. Does anyone know whats going one?
Same story here. Been trying to get on since December. I've been looking for that ARC1.3.zip - if anyone has it I'd appreciate it. That's all I need.
edit: I just got it through a direct link in the Idiot's Guide to rooting centura PDF
So...does anyone actually know what has become of Androidarea51 ??
I've been trying to access that site for some time now and it always fails to load.
Not sure what happened at AA51. They are the reason I got into Android and modding. They covered a lot of the lower-end devices.
In any event, if anyone needs files for the devices I worked on or kept for one reason or another I have files for Lg Optimus Fuel L34C, Lg Optimus Q/Net, ZTE Roamer/Merrit, Samsung Galaxy Proclaim/Illusion, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime/Prevail LTE, and I may still have some files for ST Galaxy S3. (which uses Verizon ROMs and recoveries)
Hit me up if you need anything for these devices.

Thanks for replying RealWelder.
For me AA51 -and- the LG L34C together were what made for a great turning point in my own Android adventures.
I needed a decent low-end device for wifi uses only - and the L34C went on sales for $5 & $10 & I was lucky enough to grab a couple.
If I'd known how good those little phones really were, I'd have gotten 1/2 dozen of them while they were so cheap & still wish I could find a few more to buy cheaply someplace, really !!
Best Wishes.

I still have a fuel, but my daughter plays her games on it. Lol. If you are interested in modding your fuels out I got some cool stuff I could share. I've been modding my Tab3, I've went through it and made all the text appearances and icons colorable via color pickers and a RomControl app.
Check out tdunham's Unified TouchWiz mods thread. It is mostly for Samsung's but a lot of the mods are "self-sufficient" so they should work on any device.
Sent from my KYOCERA-C6745 using Tapatalk
My couple of those were slightly modded with the AA51 ROM so as to be rooted & de-krapified.
They get used as terrific MP3 players & GPS units.
If I ever come across a couple more I'll look into making more mods.
For actual cellular uses my favourites are the Kyocera Hydro Icon & the LG Volt - both of which cost around $20 & really satisfy all my phone type needs - also rooted & de-krapified, of course.
There's Android stuff I want to use on the bigger screen - that is my present desire, and I'm hoping for that purpose that Anbox matures quickly.
I know there are other ways to do this, but that one looks most promising for Linux users right now.
Thanks and Best Wishes.
End of the golden age of Android
So sad. First Cyanogenmod site gone, now this. Android hobbyists were edged out by the new compiling method of LP (among other things) and seemed to be a slippery slope of grass-roots support for the platform. Large swaths of the xda forums have become ghost towns.
Not sure if your still trying to find arc1.3 but if my mind serves me correctly I may have it saved to either my laptop or one of my flash drives. I will have to look for it because I had all the aa51 roms for the galaxy Centura as I still have one floating around somewhere with a busted outer glass running arc.

Uploading you a zip right now, I'll post when finished.
It has cwm, twrp, root, return to stock, meid fix, and cwm loop fix. [DO NOT factory reset from Settings, or you'll have to flash loop fix(stock recovery) and then reflash your custom recovery.]
Here you go.

Same story here. Been trying to get on since December. I've been looking for that ARC1.3.zip - if anyone has it I'd appreciate it. That's all I need.
edit: I just got it through a direct link in the Idiot's Guide to rooting centura PDF

Is there any way you could uploaded me a copy of TWRP or whatever custom recovery you have for the Centura? I have a buddy needing the recovery.
Update: I got ahold of a cwm for it. It works but doesn't mount all partitions correctly...is this what you have also?

Yep, type this in your browser ftp://asburycctv.mooo.com/
These are all the area51 centura files i have ever downloaded.... not sure how long i will have these shared publicly, so download and repost (say from google drive, or something), as soon as you get to it.
Thanks and good luck!
Was hoping there would be some more recent Centura development myself, bummer all online sources seem to be gone :/
SIDENOTE: These phones make great security cameras using IP Webcam app by the way

I have stuff for the fuel, but not sure about the zone 2. Is it l40c? I've read before that they were the same device, but just on a different carrier (Verizon instead of ST) but idk if they have same bootloader signature. The images had to be "bumped" in order to pass bootloader. You could try, but it would be at your own risk. If you do, share the results so I'll know if they work on it.

I can't do jack **** to this phone man :crying: It's got that corrupted memory thing going on, i think it got water damage or something. it has the "boot certification verify" error and it shows up as, no ****, 27 different empty/corrupt usb drives when i plug it into my computer, which has the drivers for it and does somehow recognize it

I have one on the same condition. There's no fix unfortunately. The bootloader has been tripped.
