Help needed: Ota verification issue - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i am currently on 17.1.2.A.0.314, rooted with SuperSU with survival mode enabled. I get the update notification for 23.0.1.A.0.167, but when i download and try to install it, it says verification failed. I had recovery installed previously but i reflashed the stock firmware to remove it( i didn't wipe the data though), but still it says verification failed. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

your rom has to match stock to be able to update
Any changes need to be removed (root, mods, Other stuff alike )

My rom is purely stock with no modifications at all except the root. Some people updated over the air and that saved the root, that's what i was trying to do too.

im not sure how they did it then :/
root counts as a modified system because you have the SU binary and superuser manager

As I told in another thread, OTA update with root is pure luck if everything went good and remain root.

I was able to update rooted phone over the air many times before this one. Now i'll update only when there is some working root method for 4.4.4 (because i just don't want to flash a pre-rooted firmware as i don't want set up the whole phone from starting). Anyway, thanks for help ?.

No, i don't have recovery! Just the root, but still it's not able to verify the ota update. I am not going to update now, pretty much satisfied with the current firmware.

You need to carry out an OTA upgrade for that to work not all carriers support OTA. And those that do may carry out checks that fail, try flashing stock UK (unbranded) .314 I know people who've had success with that one.

You might have to settle for avoiding 4.4.4 then, as I don't know how much effort devs are putting I into finding a new exploit when flashing a pre-rooted rom is so trivial.

Ok i'll try that, but if it fails too then i won't update to 4.4.4.
Thanks for the help!

Need VZW OTA 4.3 Image to flash with Odin

So I did something really really dumb and did the OTA update to 4.3 then tried to "downgrade" to 4.1.x using oden and now I cant use my device. Does anyone have the OTA update for 4.3 available for download that I can try to fix my phone with?!?
go to sammobile. com and download it there.
I posted it in the development forum, with the rest of the stock restore images...

Downgrading isn't possible. Neither is loading custom recovery. You now have a locked bootloader.

You can not downgrade, and attempts to do so will potentially trip your KNOX counter. At the very least you'll end up soft-bricked and have to do a repair install....of 4.3.

Meat & Potatoes:
I tried ODINing my GN2 back to stock 4.1.2 tonight - I rooted it a couple months ago. Did not install a custom ROM, just rooted (the process also replaced the Recovery).
Tried ODINing back to stock using the files and information found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
When I run ODIN, it simply fails. Tells me "0 succeeded / 1 failed". Phone still works, I just can't get anywhere in the rolling back to stock bit.
Longer Version:
I've had the phone since the end of January 2013. I rooted it for a couple of reasons, mostly to get rid of bloatware, but also for an app or two that needed root access. I've had zero problems with usability or stability of the device before or since the rooting.
I couldn't tell you which root process I used, but I know it came from an XDA thread, and it automatically replaced the recovery with something touch-based. I'm not sure of the name of the recovery. It did not replace the ROM - I've had less than desirable results from using non-stock ROMs in the past on a handful of other devices, so I wasn't about to risk it.
Since VZW is rolling out the 4.3 update and it looks like a good deal, I want to get my phone back to non-rooted, non-custom-recovery'd state so I can install the update. I'm also doing it because I'm hoping they get the phone up to 4.4 down the line so I can use HCE and GWallet.
Currently, I'm downloading (very slowly, thanks sammobile, for not hosting files on your own servers) the stock VZW 4.3 package from Sammobile.com in hopes I can do something with that and just go straight up from where I am, but I'm not holding my breath since the OTA fails due to the custom recovery.
Any thoughts on what I might try differently to get ODIN to work?
Guys I had the same issue. What I did to resolve my issue is:
1. Get the Verizon upgrade assistance installed on your PC . Here's one from scoobysnack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47368638&postcount=7&nocache=1&z=2813086102250963)
2. Boot to download mode
3. plug in USB and wait for the update message on your PC
4. Update should take about 30-40 min depending on your connection speeds.
5. once updated, your phone should boot back to normal, but you will LOSE everything and have to start all over.
Hope this helps.

Could you kindly copy a link to instructions for getting root with 4.3. I have been looking everywhere and nothing seems to be working. Not sure if I am doing something wrong. Mr. Smith,
There are basically three things that KNOX checks whenever you start your phone:
Bootloader:
KNOX will check the bootloader and make sure that it is completely stock.
Recovery:
KNOX also checks the Recovery to make sure it's fully stock. Having any type of custom recovery will trip KNOX when you try to boot your phone (even if it's already rooted).
Kernal:
KNOX will check the Kernal to make sure it's not modified in any way. Thankfully, you can have root access without modifying the Kenal, so this isn't an issue in terms of tripping KNOX.
The issue was that the traditional ways of rooting included modifying one (or more) of the three above, so you'd have to trip KNOX in order to obtain Root. Towelroot apparently has found a method that does not utilize the kernal, bootloader, or recovery, so you can now have root access without tripping KNOX. This means you can install SuperSU, wireless tethering apps, and other apps that require root (Titanium Backup, XPosed, etc). This can give you unparalleled control over a stock phone.
If you want to install a custom ROM, you're going to have a much harder time. As of now, there is only one way to install a custom ROM without tripping KNOX. If a ROM developer creates a ROM that uses the stock kernal, you can install a TAR file in ODIN and it shouldn't trip KNOX. The issue with this is that very few dev's are willing to do this, because the kernal restrictions will tie their hands in terms of which mods, etc they can implement in their ROM. It also only appeals to a relatively small subset of XDA users, so it's more difficult to justify the amount of work that it would take. Also, finding someone with a 0x0 phone willing to test a ROM would be a bit difficult.
Anyways, I hope this helps your understanding of what you're getting when you root with towelroot.
Sprint note 3 nc5 I went ahead and did this one click root thing and all went well.

Yeah I took the plunge less than a week of having it
But I used Sony's website instead of FlashTool.
I had to upgrade to 314 to see if some of the problems I had with the Z2 were addressed. So far so Good, the double-tap to wake feature was spotty at best and now it works like a charm. Now to see if the proximity issue still exists...(The screen would stay off like it should on calls but the digitizer would still function!)
How can I add adb?
I'm guessing you're running the root but it's not finding adb, right?
If you don't have adb I'm sure it's on Google or these forums in hundreds of locations.
After you have it just put the contents of the root in the same directory as adb is.

Who said you had to install recovery?
Recovery was recommended because new firmware had problems with supersu 2.01 and you had to flash binaries from recovery...now that's history so there's no need for recovery...

I just used ERT v11 & tr.apk v3 to root .314 firmware. Worked on 2nd attempt mind you, basically cause I wasn't watching what I was doing lol. You chose to use Kingroot, which is somewhat controversial tool since it's closed source, and it is, or was, "allegedly" sending info to a server in China, but we don't know. Since it's closed source, we have no idea what it does to your device while it's rooting.
Rooting with an unlocked bootloader is really easy by fastbooting. It takes only a minute, and it's the native way of doing it. You chose to use this more dangerous method instead, even though I and others have mentioned the proper way of doing it several times.
The main reason I wanted root was to gain access to my sd card. I have that now. I could really care less about roms and Yodakernels and ftfsxyz flare files and exploding cpus terminals. Crazy time consuming stuff. Thanx tho. I got what I need

Just use the installer if you aren't familiar with fastboot.
From NUT's thread:
1. Make sure you have USB debugging turned ON.
2. Download XZ/ZL/TabZ/Z1/ZU-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-BETA.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com
Windows:
3. Unpack at C: or somewhere you will remember!
4. Navigate to the resulting directory and look for install.bat, double click it to run;

Stop OTA nag

Greetings,
I am on the 20e software, rooted. I have the notification for the OTA. I do not want to lose root so how do I stop the notification from bugging me? The alternative is how do I do the update & then get root back? Thanks.
Pat
stop OTA notification Should be easy. just install some app. The other hand, use flashfire see if you have that ota package from cache partition. If you do, please share it and try upgrade via flashfire
