REALLY????? You think you wanna make a ROM AND a KERNEL, yet you're too lazy to do any searching for what you need to start? Yeah, I can just imagine the quality of those builds

Maybe you should search yourself. I wouldn't trust your ROMs and kernels if you can't do that.
Are you even a developer?

[Q] How to port Lollipop TouchWiz rom

Hi there everyone
I'm actually willing to create a custom rom which is based on GT-I9500 lollipop and ported SM-N910C lollipop.
I searched and tried to learn my self but didn't succeed, then I decided to try to get some help from you here, hopefully I get the required help to create my custom rom and also be able to understand any issue coming over and solve it.
I found guides to port kitkat rom and cyanogenmod based rom which are unfortunately don't match my request.
It would be much appreciated if anyone would spend some of his time to teach me, and I have the full desire to learn :good:
Thanks in advance, and thank you XDA for this great site
Reserved for in case ..
Anyone..!
Pls any help??

Hello and welcome to the XDA forums ... First thing is you can't become a developer ASAP ... Since u r a newbie, I would suggest you to have a look at the android kitchen by SuperR ... You can develop your first working rom with least experience using this ..all the best :good:
Kitchen link http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/kitchen-superrs-kitchen-t3202296
And ofcourse any further queries about the kitchen can be found on the kitchen main page

I have already used kitchen and I know how to cook rooms from it.
How to use android source to make ROMS
It's well complicated but i wanna learn it
If you can cook a 'room’ using a kitchen, then your next step would be reading and searching through XDA. Install Linux, find a tutorial on how to build a specific ROM like Slim, CM, or Omni, download the source code and build a ROM from scratch. Actually being a developer is a whole other story, for that, you'd need years of dedication and experience with the Android ecosystem.
Best of luck.

It's not that simple. You'll need to learn a lot about coding in order to be anywhere close to doing it. It's not copy pasting stuff here and there or installing from a backup.

Since you're a noob, I can't think of anything easier than this for you
Go through the ports which are already available (like Mi A2) (must be xiaomi)
See what files the dev used to get the camera working on non-miui roms
To give you rough idea there will be xiaomi framework , some xmls, libs etc.
Try replicating those exact files from your stock firmware and create a flashable zip or directly paste em into root
Also try contacting the dev of that camera and see if he agrees to help you out !
Ask him if you face any trouble throughout.
Ignore people who are discouraging,
Today a noob, tomorrow a pro
Thanks a lot. I trialed and error-ed and came to same method you mentioned below.

My Poco is arriving in 3 days, I might just test your port and solve a few problems after I unlock my bootloader.

About Android Porting

Guys, i've tried to port a j500fn rom to a j510FN, and everything worked out pretty well. Most of the things were working and everything was fine. I tried to use the camera but I remembered I forgot to change some files. I changed those files and I double-checked if I missed any bad files. I reflashed the ROM, everything was working but guess what, camera still didn't work. I changed the base ROM, still no result, I searched for a tutorial to see if I missed any file, and i didn't. I don't know what went wrong, can you guys help me? The rom was Validus 8.1 (Unofficial).

Hi there,
Porting is buggy, you have really many bugs to deal with, moreover there aren't so many tutorials on how to do that and fix errors.
I'll advice you to check how to build a ROM from source. That's the easiest way to do because you'll have less bugs to deal with, and there are tons of tutorial about that.
Here is one of the most complete.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/guide-android-rom-development-t2814763
It's getting old but it's still fine, and XDA is filled with those kind of tutorial , go search the forum for other tutorial.
Have fun !
